The Wellington boasts an exclusive, elegant, classic feel. The venue is often characterized as a fusion of New York cocktail lounge & San Francisco supper club ambiance.. The look suggests 2 a.m. at a private club of the 1920s where high rollers, musicians & socialites rendezvoused to celebrate luxurious vices. A flock of assorted chandeliers flies at various heights from the peaked ceiling and behind the five seat bar, glass shelves filled with fine liquors gleam in front of sparkling mirrors.

The Wellington's Menu is rooted in respectful, savvy reworkings of classic dishes. Perfectly charred steaks, crispy Duck Confit & of course Beef Wellington are the kinds of dishes that grace the menu. The Wellington offers a martini list awash in creativity and perfect wine pairings with over 40 choices, both domestic and international.

  • "Food - Wedge salad on menu said iceberg lettuce wedge - came with cut up butter lettuce, spouse's romaine lettuce salad was limp, the vegetables the waiter said came with the meal were entirely different when served. Steak was good. Service - good, but did wonder why 3 employees visited by the bar cash register most of evening. Also prices on menu through Open Table site do not match those on restaurant menu. This restaurant is losing its cache. Too bad."

  • "I happened upon this place when looking for a place to have a nice dinner for a trip to San Diego. I have been trying to find a good beef wellington and with a name like The Wellington, I had to give it a shot. It was a bit difficult to find and there isn't a parking lot but past that, the interior is beautiful, our server was absolutely wonderful, friendly, knowledgable, and just the right about of attentive. The wellington was everything I had hoped it would be, delicious, a great portion, and cooked perfectly. There is really nothing negative that could be said about the whole experience."

  • "I had a craving for beef wellington and this place hit the spot. Warning….it's really DIM inside, although it makes for a nice, romantic ambiance. It took a while to get used to the darkness, but it made it a little hard to read the menu LOL. I had to use my cellphone light to read it. I ate there on a weekday so parking wasn't bad at all. I was able to park right in front of the restaurant. All in all, I was very satisfied with the service and the food. "

  • "The Wellington is within walking distance of our home in Mission Hills, and it's a nice place for a decent local steak dinner. Our party was on time for our reservation but the table was slow to leave, so we ended up starting at the bar where the host comp'd our drinks. The waiter was attentive and very polite. Solid five stars for service! The salad was tasty and the entre (Ribeye with au poivre sauce) was delicious, but the vegetable side dish (spinach, broccolini and other green vegetables) were so salty you couldn't eat them. Others in our party had delicious fish and the beef Wellington was very good. We'll likely try this place again. Their service has certainly earned them a second chance."

  • "One of my favorite places in San Diego. Had filet mignon which never disappoints. Only place in San Diego where I will eat meat. Loved the chimichuri sauce. Tried my husband's beef wellington, and I may have to order it next time. Ordered banana creme pie which is also perfect, and also ordered lemon cheese cake. So good too."

  • "We had read some mixed reviews but we really wanted to go out for a nice steak dinner. I'm not a steak eater so I opted for the fish special that I was assured was delicious. It was so overcooked that I mentioned it to my waiter. The chef made me a new entree that was only slightly less over cooked. I didn't say anything but they took it off my bill. So, I give them props for trying to make it right and being sensitive to their guests' experience. My husband's meal was very good but my son had the rib eye and he was definitely not overly enthusiastic about it. The atmosphere is lovely in the very small restaurant but don't go for the food."

  • "This restaurant is tiny, only 10 tables in all so it was very cozy. Came here for San Diego restaurant week so enjoyed 3 courses for dinner. I had the short rib crostini for appetizer, beef Wellington for main course (excellent!), and orange creme brulee for dessert. The service was really good and made the experience really enjoyable."

  • "Intimate dark and not overly noisy. I had the Wellington . It was not what I expected A large piece of steak that was akward to eat with the pastry The root veggie mix threw me for a loop as I believe there were turnips in the mix. The house salad was ok, however there really Is no dignified way to eat pomegranate airls. I don't enjoy swallowing them nor chewing them, gasp spit them out at such a high end eatery. It left me pushing them around my plate. My date had the ribeye with chimichurri sauce. It was delicious and flavorful. Wellington was nice for restaurant week. However I don't see my self returning all the time."

  • "My friend and I had dinner there last night for restaurant week, we had ordered the beef wellington and the stuffed porkloin,we both didnt like our food...the beef filet in the wellington tasted like liver coz it wasn't cooked right,and the puff pastry tasted too doughy,the stuffed porkloin was dry .We liked the sauteed kale and the foccacia bread though, and the servers were really nice.We didnt bother to complain to return our food to get something else coz they had limited choices and those two were the ones that we preferred to get...the wellington is afterall their specialty..The braised beef appetizer was ok, wouldve been better without the goat cheese coz I'm not a fan of it,the orange marmalade blended well with the flavors though."

  • "I was really excited to have my first Beef Wellington and thought this would be a great place to try it for the first time. Had the Beef Wellington their signature dish and it was just a flat out failure. Dough was under cooked and the filet mignon tasted like ground beef. What a waste of a filet, you would have never known that it was. My filet was medium as opposed to medium rare. Service was good the appetizers were good as well."

The atmosphere is super intimate& romantic but with class&style appropriate to impress my man. The food is memorable, especially the considering value of the 3-course dinner. We always recommend this as a fun alternative to the typical steak dinner restaurant. Just come hungry! Most of all, the service was superb. We had Vasilios: Attentive, enthusiastic, and he makes MEAN drinks!! A must for all!"

  • "We were craving a beef Wellignton and this is clearly the place to go. That's what we all ordered so I can't comment about the other food. Wellignton was excellent. They had a special with salad and dessert which was a better deal than ordering a la carte. Wellignton was served with Brocolli and Carrots. Carrots were good but broccoli was a bit too cooked and fairly smothered in salty soy sauce like sauce. Small intimate place. Service was good."

  • "We took some friends to The Wellington to celebrate their anniversary; chose the place based on recommendation from others. We were NOT disappointed!! The food was delicious; presentation was pleasant; drinks were good. Flow of the meal was smooth from one course to the next. Our server, Katie, was great! She answered all our questions about the menu; she was very professional throughout the evening; and she handled the back-and-forth banter that made for a fun evening for all of us!!! We definitely look forward to returning to The Wellington another time! PS-Warning--MUST have reservations as the restaurant is small; we saw several people come in who had to be turned away! But again the staff was cordial and pleasant to them as well"

  • "Wellington, thank you a thousand times over for having grassfed filet mignon on your menu. I cook this at home about once a week because I cannot find it at any restaurants. However when my husband and I want to go out for a nice steak it's so good to know we can count on you. We came with a small group on Saturday night and had one of the best dining-out experiences we've had in a long time. Everything was prepared to perfection and my beautiful grass- fed filet was cooled medium rare as I requested. My husband and I live in Mission Hills, close enough to walk, so we are very very happy."

  • "I've eaten at this establishment several times over the years and have to say that my recent experience might be my last - a shame because the food here is very good. Dinner here took over 2 hours for a group of 5, which normally isn't a problem except that most of the time we felt we were being ignored by the staff while there was a couple in the corner being treated like VIPs. I always boast about how good this place was to friends and suggest we visit on special occasions such as birthdays or holiday dinners. Based on this last experience I feel like I misled everyone about the quality of this place and probably won't be able to convince folks to come back - not sure I'd want to try that anyway.   • "Friendly staff but not very knowledgeable of the menu. The steaks were ok but not great. Overcooked a bit. They didn't have a few items that they had on the menu and it was early (6pm). Also, we asked for a specific table against the wall and they said no because they ''thought' that they were all taken for later reservations. We had a reservation and it was empty when we arrived. For the price, I wouldn't recommend it. They need to do some repairs to the walls-patch and paint. It certainly wasn't as upscale as I think they perceive it to be. Really small inside and heard the group next to us talking over our own conversation."

  • "Walking right in, the room was dimly lit but sparkled all over from crystal chandeliers, candles, mirrors, etc., it's immediately mesmerizing. After realizing its a mirror and not an additional room, it starts to sink in that the place is the size of a two car garage. Very quaint. It gives a feeling of exclusiveness. Our server was immaculate. She was there when needed, recommendations, made us laugh, changed our wine glasses between red & white. Service was perfect, honestly. I ordered the duck, LOVED IT. I love duck. Everyone else had beef wellingtons and NY strips. No complaints. It's a wonderful secret gem. I wish I could have enjoyed a martini, just didn't order one. Did not wait very long. it is a bit on the pricey side, considering the location and LACK of parking.   • "We went for our 27th year wedding anniversary dinner. We had been watching Chef Ramsey for years make "Beef Wellington" and always wanted to try it. What better place to try Beef Wellington than at the "Wellington"? Our reservations were for 6:30. We arrived early and they seated us early. We had a drink and ordered dinner. They have a pretty cool menu but of course we ordered Beef Wellington. Both were cooked perfectly and were really tasty. We got some bread prior to dinner that was really good. After dinner (and we ate every bite), we had dessert. They have an impressive dessert menu. I got the cobbler and my wife got the Banana Cream pie. Both were outstanding, topped off with a cup of coffee. I highly recommend this restaurant."

Considering that there are about 10 tables in the restaurant, and there were 3 waiters (and when we got there only 2 other parties seated), it was shocking the time it took for the waiters to acknowledge us, take our orders, make our drinks and they never poured our wine after the initial pour."
