A word from The Well - Bar, Grill & Rooftop
The Well is a unique, multi-level restaurant with two outdoor areas...a lower level patio and a rooftop deck. The second establishment of the Lewellen brothers, (Lew's Grill & Bar is down the street) it is easy to tell that a lot of thought went into making it a place that offers something for everyone. The slightly upscale feel combined with the casual atmosphere of a neighborhood bar draws a mixed crowd of all ages, from families and singles to business people and locals. Comfortable and friendly, it's great for all types of gatherings. The chef-prepared menu includes fresh fish, steaks, pastas, burgers with hand-cut fries and much more. “We choose only the freshest ingredients for our dishes, and we buy locally whenever possible,” said owner Chris Lewellen. Late night includes a variety of munchies, hand-made soups and sandwiches. Sunday brunch features a six-station buffet with omelet and Belgium Waffle station and KC's largest Bloody Mary Bar.

I took a friend to brunch for her birthday and it was delicious! The service was good, the food was great, and it was a beautiful day to sit on the patio. The only complaint I have is that it was both of our first times there and no one told us that the bloody Mary bar was included with brunch! For the price, that would have been nice to know. To be fair, we could have asked but I feel like that's the type of thing someone should mention. I'll definitely be back and next time I'll be drinking bloody Marys!

The Well food is great----not your typical bar food at all. I go there for their fish specials for lunch, which varies according to what they are able to source. I've had swordfish, scallops, etc. with unbelievably good sauces, etc. The exact same plates could be served at more expensive restaurants and you would comment how good it was.

We had heard a lot about the brunch at The Well and decided to try it for ourselves. We were happy with our decision. There was a great variety of both breakfast and lunch dishes as well as several types of dessert. Their coffee is also good and our server was excellent. All in all we had a great experience and would recommend The Well for brunch.

This was a great venue for a blind date I recently had. We decided to meet at the rooftop location. I got there a little earlier than my date and I was immediately greeted by a warm greeter who directed me to my seat. After an 'interesting' mojito alternative, my date arrived and we spent the evening talking while sipping on the tasty drink selections and snacking on the pleasing appetizers we ordered. The waitress we had was awesome so I had no problem leaving a substantial tip. All and all, it was a great evening at a great location!

  • Special Occasion Sunday Brunch

Our dining party was comprised of 3 people with various dietary needs. One is diabetic, one low cholesterol, one "loves bacon and all desserts". We met with our great priest friend to celebrate a mutual special occasion. I knew The Well's Sunday Brunch offered a menu that was healthy if we wanted to be, yet provided some "cheater" choices. The waitresses are always very prompt in taking away your dirty dishes so you can start over with a fresh plate. I ate bacon, scrambled eggs with gravy, fresh fruit, and desserts with coffee. The bacon was a little salty, but everything else was awesome, the desserts were melt-in-your-mouth. I requested a booth for our guest in my reservation but upon arriving were sent to a high table. Lots of TVs to watch the games on. It was a busy Fri but the server took a good 15 minutes to acknowledge our existence. Got a free Spin dip appetizer that was on Yelp, but it wasn't very good. No pitchers served but had Boulevard drafts so that was fine. My new fav place to watch sports.

The server was pretty good but a tad on the slow side. Our food was all very tasty except for the salmon sandwich. Luckily for us the manager stepped right in. He comp'd the sandwich and the replacement meal for the "bad" salmon. Their nachos are just awesome. Whenever we frequent the Well we make sure to order the nachos as they are some of the best in town.

Seemed like very limited Happy Hour options for drinks. Our wait staff was not really knowledgeable about the drinks. However, in her defense, this is a management issue. Education on the types of cocktails, ie: dry, sweet, fruity, etc, should be improved in the training. Otherwise the Roof Top was private, comfortable, service was prompt, and food good.

The bar and grill itself was cool. I understand that because of the location of the bar the prices would be "different" But if you price the food to the way it was presented and to the taste I would say it is way over priced. The menu on the website doesn't meet the actual taste of the food. It was first experience there and wasn't all that impressed.

We had a large group and they had plenty of room to accomodate us. The rooftop is a great area but a little hot if you go in the heat of the day but after the sun goes down it amazing to be sitting outside and enjoy the evening. The food is great and the drink specials were great. I would definitely recommend for a large group. The only draw back you can't take the food with you if you book a room and have food. Kind of strange.

  • I was surprised when I walked

I was surprised when I walked in to The Well. I was expecting something lower scale and a bit rougher, but the inside is very nice and clean. The food was good, and our server was attentive enough. The only suggestion I had was a beer list of some sort. They have several drafts and bottles.... our server knew most /all of them. But some people like to try several types, and dont want to go through the hassle of bothering the server to recite the whole list everytime. Thanks for carrying Avery White Rascal. Cheers!
