Diner Reviews
  • "Made a reservation on Open Table for our anniversary and arrived at The Wayfarer 5 minutes early for dinner. I had asked for a table with a view, but they sat us in the back even though the restaurant wasn't crowded. We waited over 20 minutes and no one came by to check on us or take our drink order so we finally got up and left. On the way out, the hostess asked how our dinner was, and we reminded her that we had just got there and hadn't been waited on. It was very disappointing that the restaurant was so unorganized and had such poor service."

  • "Food was outstanding. 12 year old son had rock fish off the kids menu and loved it. My husband had the ravioli and thought he died and had gone to heaven! I had the rex sole and it was great as well. View is spectacular if you are by the window where you can see haystack. Overall great experience! Will be back again next time we are at the coast!"

  • "Nice choice of fresh seafood. The potato laced halibut was very good, but a bit on the greasy side. Definitely ask for a spot with a view of the ocean."

  • "The Wayfarer has such a great location, the view is incredible, the ambience is very nice. But the food was not spectacular and certainly not worth the price. The service was sporadic and inconsistent. The chowder came before the appetizer (cheese and crackers). Then the entrees were served within five minutes of receiving the appetizer. Empty plates sat on the table too long, it took forever to get the bill, then we found we were charged twice for the already overpriced appetizer. But, this appears to be typical of any restaurant along the Oregon coast, so if you're going to the coast and looking for a nice place to eat, at least this one has the great view. You might get lucky and catch the staff on a better night."

  • "I was quite surprised by our experience at the Wayfarer. I had previously been there prior to the renovation, and how things have changed! The restaurant has been updated nicely, with a more modern menu to match and a nice wine list. Great views looking out towards Cannon Beach as well. We enjoyed the crab cakes, the house salad, and the Halibut which was our favourite dish. It was nice to see the kitchen using the first fresh halibut of the season as well. Service was absolutely fantastic."

  • "Friends highly recommended this restaurant and I know why! The service was wonderful. Cindy was friendly, fun and made some great suggestions as to what we order, especially the decadent dessert! The wedge salad could be a meal in itself, absolutely scrumptious!! The fish and chips were very tasty, light and a large enough portion to share. We were celebrating my hubby's birthday and the Wayfarer proved to be a fabulous choice."

  • "Overcooked shrimp, over salted fried oysters, horrible rice. Views are incredible, service was ok, but food needs major overhaul!!"

  • "Nice menu with some crowd pleasers and new twists on classic preparations."

  • "We were happily surprised to find this restaurant. Many times eating in Cannon Beach has been a disappointment. We were generally left with the impression that due to the lovely setting restaurants did not have to try hard on the food end of their business. To be proven wrong was great. The Wayfarer restaurant will now be a part of future trips we will make to Canon Beach."

  • "OK place, but for a expensive place with a view, the food didn't quite seem to work. We had the fixed price three course special and each course was adequate but not outstanding. The rock fish main course had almost raw onion chunks baked with the fish that one really had to avoid the over-powering onions."

  • "My wife and I come to Cannon Beach every year to celebrate our union. We had dinner at Wayfarer this year, for the first time, and are glad we did. The food isn't necessarily adventurous but rather classic dishes very well executed. Living in Portland, we've tried many fine restaurants, many of which we think try too hard to offer signature spins on items that are better off as solid standards. Dear Portland, please stop trying to reinvent the Bloody Mary! My wife and I immediately decided we'd return to Wayfarer next year. Definitely the finest dining experience we've had in Cannon Beach."

  • "I had made reservations for my birthday online for dinner. We hadn't planned on also having lunch but we arrived in Cannon Beach a little early and were waiting for our room to be ready for us. We headed down and ate at the bar. The view is terrific as was the coziness and friendliness of the staff. Our waiter was exceptional. We split an order of fish and chips. The fish was light and not greasy at all and the chips were skinny shoe string potatoes that had been crispy fried and were very addictive. A little later we went back for our dinner reservation. We were so lucky to have the same waiter. The drinks were delicious as was the steak, clam chowder and crab cocktail. It was a friendly, warm place to dine and a memorable occasion."

  • "This restaurant has such a choice location near Haystack Rock but that is only the start. Service and food have always been excellent every time we have visited which has been about six times in the past several years. If in the Cannon Beach area I recommend Wayfarer!"

  • "Reviews were good and we were not disappointed. The service was good, food tasty, many nice menu choices. A little pricey but a nice splurge."

  • "We choose the restaurant because we were staying at the Seasand Resort and thought it would be good to stay nearby on our first meal out. IT WAS ABOVE OUR EXPECTATIONS! We had the three course meal as well as the avocado fingers. The meal was a great value and the food delicious. We had polenta cake with shrimp, huckleberry salad and 1/2 crab. The avocado fingers were a little expensive and they are worth it. I would suggest getting these at happy hour. The view would be impressive during the day and at night it is completely dark. We will recommend this place to friends for sure!"

  • "A random excursion to the coast brought me to Wayfarers. I had been here before, but the service, the food, the atmosphere, everything was just exceptional. Completely accommodating, kind, and caring. Thank you for the wonderful time and experience."

  • "Traveling with the family to Seaside, OR, we got hungry for a great restaurant, so about 7pm, I got on Open Table and found this restaurant. Just down the road in Cannon Beach, and they had a reservation open for 8pm. Booked it, and headed down. Unfortunately, it was dark when got there, as upon our return to Cannon Beach to sight see, we noticed the restaurant has a beautiful panoramic view of Haystack Rock and the beach. Would have been an amazing compliment to the meal. Food was great and very reasonably priced. Large booth accommodated my family of 4. I and my boys (3 & 5 yrs) enjoyed a perfectly cooked HUGE steak. Wife had a delicious mushroom ravioli dish. Appetizers, sides, soups and salads were also great. We'll certainly go back."

  • "We were visiting the Oregon Coast for the week of Christmas 2013 and had made reservations at the Wayfarer because we'd eaten there a few years before. We were not disappointed!! The prime rib was juicy and tender with wonderful flavor, and the desserts were fabulous! I highly recommend the Wayfarer Restaurant!!"

  • "Arrived on time and sat right away. Booth for the two of us was semi-private feeling; and although the sun had already set so no view, it does have a great vista of Haystack if you arrive earlier. Server was friendly and attentive. We were paying when a very large group (15) arrived with a noisy child, so we timed it right. A great dinner - Halibut for me and Filet of Beef with Crab and béarnaise for him. Wedge salad is a Must. and what we didn't finish in the wine, we were able to bag and take back to hotel to celebrate the end of 2013. Highly recommend."

  • "We had Christmas dinner at The Wayfarer. My prime rib was decent, my wife's prawns scampi was decent as well. The crab cocktail we started with was excellent. The waiter was very attentive and service oriented. All in all a good-to-very good meal and was on par with the cost. The only thing I thought was a little weird was the large flatscreen TV with Wheel of Fortune playing. Really??? In a restaurant that's trying to present itself as classy? Please, get rid of the TV."

  • "We have been to the Wayfarer many times and have had consistently good experiences. This time my husband had the filet mignon. I had the wild mushroom ravioli which was wonderful. Service is great as always and the view can't be beat. They are always willing to accommodate special requests if at all possible. Love the Wayfarer and will return."

  • "My friends and I were staying up in Fort Stevens Park near Astoria after doing a half marathon. We wanted a nice dinner. Looked for places in Seaside and Astoria but nothing seemed what we were looking for. We asked for a recommendation from a sales clerk and he recommended this place. Boy were we glad! The food was excellent and the service great. Had a couple of their specialties - cedar plank salmon and ravioli. All of us were very pleased. I would definitely go again when looking for a nice, special dinner in that area."

  • "We were looking for a special dinner to celebrate our anniversary. The booth was located in a quiet corner, the special (filet mignon with bacon) was the best ever. The salmon was also good. Portions were large and we were stuffed when we left. Service was spot on. Will be on my list of top picks for Cannon Beach!"

  • "Great beach restaurant--able to dress up or down and still be comfortable. Very attentive waiter"
    Dined on 10/19/2013
  • "The food was good, but not exceptional. They move people through really fast, so if you're looking for a slow romantic dinner, this is not the place to go. The tables were too close to each other to have a private conversation. They're very busy - even with a reservation we had to wait a few minutes. If you get there before sunset, there's an ocean view."

  • "We dined at Wayfarer last week for the first time and had a wonderful experience. The server went way above and beyond with his suggestions and even tidbits about what to do while visiting the area. He did not rush us and even offered great substitution ideas. The food was outstanding. Our table allowed us a view of Haystack and overall the night was very enjoyable. We dined there two nights later with our adult daughter and it was not so great. The server was just there to take our order and deliver our food. Not much personality at all. The food was so-so and had that been our first experience we would have never returned a second time. I would suggest giving it a try but it is expensive when it is an off night like we experienced."

  • "They have the best filets I have had anywhere. Their garlic fries are awesome too. I have never had a bad meal there and the servers are all wonderful. They also have the best view in Cannon Beach."
