Established in 1920, The Waverly Inn was reopened in 2006 by Vanity Fair Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter along with Sean MacPherson and Eric Goode (of the Maritime and Bowery Hotels) and Emil Varda. Tucked into the ground floors of two adjoining townhouses, the dining room's red booths, fireplaces and low amber lighting provide an attractive and cozy hangout for the city’s best and brightest.   • "The Waverly Inn is a beautiful restaurant. There are a few tables located just outside the main entrance offering the perfect dinner spot to enjoy people watching in the West Village while enjoying a very good dinner. Inside is a beautiful bar and dining room. But behind the dining room is an open air garden area for that perfect place to have your dinner on a summer evening. The food is very good as is the service. The menu is diverse and the overall restaurant is definitely a treat. This is a place to which I will return."

  • "I was excited to finally check out The Waverly Inn. It was one of the best meals of my entire life. Everything was amazing down to the charred grapes to the ketchup with a side of fries. It was a Sunday night in August so it was not busy but quiet and romantic. I had read reviews in the past that the staff was rude and unfriendly but I found them to be very nice and accommodating. If you get the opportunity you should go. So worth it."

  • "My two girlfriends and I were so pleased to be seated in the garden on a summer night. Our waiter was lovely. The food was fine- perfectly good but nothing special. The most unfortunate part was how rushed we were to order and consume our food- various waiters and bus boys trying to take our plates clearly before we were done. And then the maître d offered us each a glass of champagne at the bar because they wanted to give someone our table. We were there for MAX 2 hours, not to mention that the restaurant was completely empty inside. Terrible place to choose to sit with your friends and relax and catch up. Could never justify going back."

  • "Was lovely sitting on the front patio but the service was so indifferent - kind, but indifferent. The lovely waiter was totally in the clouds. And when I am being offered something that is not on the menu I would like to know the price of it and not have to ask how much it costs. The information should always be offered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT really makes me cranky that one would presume I don't need/want to know. Food was ok but for $65 I might have like a scrap of bread with my 1-inch square crab cakes and glass of wine! C'mon!"

  • "I used to go here as a kid for the chicken pot pie. Thanks be, it's still on the menu, along with much more. Avoid the $60+ trendy stuff and enjoy a superb burger, gnocchi with mushrooms, iceberg lettuce salad and the smaller, happy dishes. The sides -- especially the old-fashioned creamed spinach -- are excellent, as is the wine list. Outdoor tables are fabulous for brunch. Enjoy."

  • "Wonderful experience. Food was amazing. The bread they brought before the meal was delicious. Very warm quaint environment. Seemed a place that would be really cozy in the winter. Low ceilings, tables are fairly close together. It really had the feel of an old inn. I felt like a wench was going to come by with ale any minute. Expensive though so... bring your black card."

The server was a sweetheart, he was very nice to the kids, they put us out in the back garden which was just perfect and the food was delicious. Notwithstanding, instead of spreading out the incoming guests, we were seated on top of one another while leaving several groups of open tables. Perhaps this is their protocol, or they were preparing for larger incoming parties, nevertheless it felt awkward."

  • "My wife and I were joined by a business acquaintance the other night and we enjoyed a very good meal at The Waverly Inn. My wife had the oven roasted halibut that she thoroughly enjoyed and my business friend raved about the chicken pot pie that he said was the best he ever eaten. I ordered a double portion of the appetizer steak tartare for my main dish and it was outstanding (spicy and infused with truffles). Our meal was wonderful and the evening was very special."

This time i brought out of town guests for dinner. a beautiful summer evening we wanted to sit outside -- we got seated in the lovely glass topped courtyard - the breeze wafting in from the opening. ambience was excellent, service - as always was extraordinary and the food was absolutely delightful! we shared appetizers +oysters - which were fresh and succulent, then each ordered a fish/seafood course - and in each case we were completely delighted with our choice and flavorful preparation and the esthetic of the dish itself. I look forward to returning soon!"

  • "Did not have the best experience taking a new business associate here. Service was inconsistent and forgetful at times. A framed picture fell on my colleagues head from the wall, and the manager made a joke about a lawsuit instead of asking if everything was ok. The dining room was loud and we were seated next to the entrance to the kitchen, so traffic was an issue. I would request a table window if possible."

  • "This was our 3rd time back...we eat there each time we are in NYC. Menu is very interesting and food is top-notch....not the typical fare that one finds in most other restaurants. The Grilled Octopus appetizer is to die for! We love the atmosphere and ambiance...will keep The Waverly on our must-do list. Thinking that the next time may be in the winter months....suspect the ambiance would be just idyllic in the snow!"

  • "We booked a 6:30 reservation on Open Table. When we arrived at the restauant, the dining room was completely empty. We were seated at the worst possible table, right next to the kitchen door. We asked to move to the adjoining table. Shortly therafter, two additional people arrived and, although the restaurant was still completely empty, they were seated at the table adjacent to ours, so close as to appear to be a foursome. They could hear every word of our conversation and vice versa. It ruined our evening (and the restaurant was largely empty when we left as well) It is too bad becasue the food was quite good, as were the drinks. Very helpful sommelier. That said, we will never go back."

When I was meeting a friend for brunch, we decided on The Waverly Inn as we had both had good experiences, that was a mistake. The brunch menu is uninspiring, boring and unappealing. Our service was TERRIBLE. The worst waiter I have had in a long time. As soon as we finished our meal, having left most of the food on our plates, he brought the check without asking us if we wanted anything else. When we said we wanted coffee, he had an attitude was very very snippy. Don't waste your time or money on brunch. If you are going to be open for brunch, make sure your chef and employees represent you"
