Diner Reviews
  • "From the somewhat unwelcoming host staff to the for sure bothered and abrupt waiter, my guess is we won't return. I felt like we were dining in one of the "tourist" restaurants where they know you won't be back and consequently won't bother to treat you well. Too much competition for view restaurants to bother with this one again. Too bad as the food was good enough."

  • "Try any fish, lobbster, prawns, even the steak is good, but don't ask for the pasta: it's dry"

  • "We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation, and our waiter had body odor and got one of our orders wrong. He was not personable. Would not go back to this restaurant."

  • "We are locals, this was our 4th or 5th visit. Cocktails all too sweet, special of the day (halibut), overcooked. With 2 teens who ordered pastas - both were excellent. Heirloom tomato salad & baked oyster 1st courses also excellent. We've had superior meals here before, but the quality of dinner fare has steadily declined. Lobster and crab salad sandwiches at lunchtime are a favorite. Come for the 100% guaranteed beautiful view of the bay, roll the dice with the food. Better options for the same price point available EVERYWHERE. Will keep as a lunch option only."

  • "Good (not great) food marred by lousy service. Server rarely checked on us. Birthday celebration made just a bit less special by waiter."
    Dined on 7/24/2014
  • "The food was good. I ate the cioppino and it was delicious with the exception of the mussels. They were very small and rubbery. Maybe they were frozen and pull out of the back of the freezer? I sat outside in the glass-enclosed area and it was nice. The sun was shining and I had a great view of the Bay. The worst part of the experience was the service. The server was never there. When he did show up he stayed for 30 seconds and quickly disappeared. It was an early dinner, 6 PM, so it was not busy at all. When he served the entree, he never checked up on was everything. I wanted a glass of Chardonnay for dinner, but I could not order one until I was half way done with the entree because he never showed up!"

  • "Had a lovely time for dinner here! Amazing view- service was amazing and my boyfriend and I both had the specials and they were delightful. Will come here again!"

  • "It is worth trying this restaurant. The food is okay, but the view and environment are great."

  • "Great food, Great service and Great View what a find we will return"

  • "This was the first time dining at the waterfront. My husband and I had lunch and we were not impressed. The food was good but nothing over the top, but the service was terrible. I had to ask for water 4 times before we got a glass!!! The view is lovely overlooking the bay. Perhaps dinner is a different experience. Not sure if we would go back."

  • "We met up with family for a scenic lunch at the Waterfront. The food is consistently good, the service is good, and the view is outstanding. It is also nice that they have valet parking available. We very much like that they don't hurry you here-- if you want to linger over lunch and visit, the staff are great and continue to refill your water and pay attention, even if the bill has been settled."

  • "The food was very yummy!! Great views and service. Even my daughter had fun at this restaurant!! Waitstaff and front desk were both very attentive without being too pushy or not there at all -- just right!"

  • "I've never said this about a classic restaurant. Combo of disappointment. Poor service, felt neglected and it wasn't even busy. Not going back. Just wanted to share."

  • "Decent food, poor services. A bit overpriced like all waterfront restaurants, but at least it's not fisherman's wharf."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "The table was great with a great view of the bay but the drinks were very small for the price. We have been here before and were a bit disappointed in the quality of the fish compared to previous visits (at least five previous times). Would probably go else where with all the other choices."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "When we arrived for our 7:30 reservation we were told our table wouldn't be ready for 30 minutes. Not a good start, but they offered us free drinks at the bar."

  • "Our entrees came before the wine we ordered, twice we had to get up to go find our waiter, things were brought out completely wrong. I do not normally complain about service but this guy genuinely seemed to hate his job"

  • "A great place to take friends when are visiting from out of town. It is always a hit on so many levels. The Homemade Seafood Linguini is our personal favourite and we never grow tired of it. The best in town really!! ALL of our guests have really really enjoyed The Waterfront."

  • "Delicious food, leisurely dining allowed us to enjoy the lights of the bay bridge"

  • "Booked through open table and were seated right on time. The food was pretty good ..oysters (raw) were delicious! The risotto I had as an app was also pretty good ..I've had some that are better. My friends tried the lobster Mac and Cheese as their apps and it wasn't spectacular which is what we hoped for. My main dish the handmade seafood pasta came out a bit clumpy ..I'm used to pasta being soft and easy to manage. The whole fish was to be stuffed with crab but it seemed as if the crab had just been topped - the fish however was cooked perfectly and was delicious! My friends temp on the steak was a bit too rare for her and she'd asked for it medium rare but there was a great sear on it which saved it. Overall I'd go back again!"

  • "It was the 4th of July and therefore very busy, perhaps that explains why the service was a bit slow, however the food was quite good. I had the chicken breast with sides of green beans with bacon. Another diner at my table had the lobster mac and cheese that was served in a huge portion and was rich and creamy."

  • "The food was bland and uninspired. Not bad enough for one star, but nothing memorable or special here."

  • "Our second visit to The Waterfront proved to be as enjoyable as the first. We have family living in the Bay Area so visit frequently, but this occasion we brought friends to the restaurant from back home in Texas as well. We were all pleased with the food--from the appetizer to the desserts. We had a bottle of red and white wine and the list from which to choose gave us a good variety. As always, with our experience, the staff is very attentive and accommodating. And, The Bay Bridge is an added bonus to dining at The Waterfront! We'll definitely return..."

  • "Our server was slightly but repeatedly rude. Maybe he was just having a bad day. I've never before experienced anything but pleasant service at the Waterfront."

  • "This is the second time I have eaten at the Waterfront on a visit to SF and I was even more pleased with the experience. The food and service were impeccable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is near Pier 7. Spectacular view as well as great overall experience."

  • "Overall service was OK however one of our guest ask for bread after ordering and the server sarcastically stated. Yes, it will come once he takes all the menus. The bread never came before the meal."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Leisurely lunch turned into three hours - although our foursome wanted to visit and catch-up, we were left for 30-40 minutes at a time before ANY service checked on us throughout, which was surprising since we were the ONLY party in the restaurant for quite some time - server couldn't describe "what's in a blood mary?" or any special/freshest dishes - he brought out my entrée along with the others' appetizers (the food was all delicious). A dessert that was described as caramel bread pudding came out as sliced prune bread covered in caramel sauce. Once the check requested and he dropped it off, disappeared for 20 minutes until I finally got up to give it to another server. Despite service, we'll give it another shot just for their menu."

  • "Recently, had dinner at the Waterfront. Everything was perfect, the table the view, the service and the food. We had a wonderful wine and even spend some time in the bar. It was a perfect night!"

  • "Took my parents for 49th wedding anniversary. We were given a wonderful table on the patio with a view of the bridge as the sun set."

  • "I have been to this restaurant many times and have enjoyed the food before. I usually go for the view and fine dining with a group. This last visit the service and food was a little off. We were not asked for what we wanted to drink a good bit after we sat down. I ordered the Seafood linguine and asked specifically if it was spicy and was told no. However, when the food was served it came with red chili peppers. Unfortunately, the wait staff did come back to ask how the food was immediately after serving, so by the time they returned I didn't want the group to wait on me to get another dish, so i kept it. I will think twice next time before planning a group dinner here again."

  • "I have been to the Waterfront Restaurant many times and always enjoyed it. However, this time we had to wait for more than 30 minutes to be seated despite the fact we had reservations. Now, they had a very large party in their covered terrace area as well as a number of other large groups. When we saw the large party, we knew things would be slow, the food would probably not be as cared for as typical, etc. Unfortunately, this proved to be true. It's not their typical mode of operation, so I'm just not sure how to find out whether or not a restaurant has a large group the night you plan to dine there. It seldom works out well."

  • "We ate here on Father's Day and were very happy with the food and the service. But the Waterfront Restaurant's best feature it the view and location. It is situated right on the Bay with a fantastic view of the Bay Bridge and the water activity on the Bay. We spent most of our time just enjoying the view and the food."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "We arrived at 3 pm with reservations for what was supposed to be a special Father's Day mid-afternoon meal. Although the restaurant was nearly empty, there were no window seats available because they were setting up for a private party. We were taken instead to a corner table in the upper area with no view at all. We then sat through a meal of pretty good but pretty average food to an hour long seranade of screeching table legs being dragged across the floor (can't these young men pick up a table when they move it?), hustle and bustle and loud talk between the staff. Our waiter asked them to stop. Then the silverware sorting began.we got out of there after the entrees. $181 later, we left vowing not to return. Discount refused. Awful."

  • "This has been my "go to" restaurant for business and family events for years but we just had a disastrous Father's Day lunch there. We arrived on time for our 1pm reservation and waited 15 minutes for our table after a surly "greeting". We ordered our meal around 1.45 and still had no food by 2.30... we asked for bread - three times, and water, twice. We finally had to go find the manager who said the kitchen is "backed up" - no apology. We watched as other tables, who were seated after us, were served their food! It's not my "go to" anymore...."

  • "It took an hour for our meals after ordering lunch, and requesting our waiter three times before he arrived finally to check on us. The prices were high for mediocre food. We left and actually ate elsewhere with the food in to-go bags, as our children were ready to riot. Will never recommend or return here."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Not sure if any employee knows they are in the service industry. From the lack of greeting at the door to the waitress who acted as if our ordering of food was a real bother in her otherwise boring day, service was not good. Food was mediocre at cest. Why batter and fry lemon slices to serve atop fish and chips? Perhaps to hide over fried, what looked to be frozen fish sticks. With so many great choices along the Embarcadero, best to avoid this tourist trap."

  • "my first time. receptionist was very pleasant, made it for a nice start. the view is very nice. food was ok, nothing stood out. asked for bread to go with the soup that was served but it did not come until a few minutes after the two soups were finished. Both times, the glass of wine was served after the appetizer and entree arrived. Our waiter was very rushed and snappy."
