  • "When we arrived for our 7:30 reservation we were told our table wouldn't be ready for 30 minutes. Not a good start, but they offered us free drinks at the bar."

  • "Our entrees came before the wine we ordered, twice we had to get up to go find our waiter, things were brought out completely wrong. I do not normally complain about service but this guy genuinely seemed to hate his job"

  • "It was the 4th of July and therefore very busy, perhaps that explains why the service was a bit slow, however the food was quite good. I had the chicken breast with sides of green beans with bacon. Another diner at my table had the lobster mac and cheese that was served in a huge portion and was rich and creamy."

  • "A great place to take friends when are visiting from out of town. It is always a hit on so many levels. The Homemade Seafood Linguini is our personal favourite and we never grow tired of it. The best in town really!! ALL of our guests have really really enjoyed The Waterfront."

  • "Delicious food, leisurely dining allowed us to enjoy the lights of the bay bridge"

  • "This is the second time I have eaten at the Waterfront on a visit to SF and I was even more pleased with the experience. The food and service were impeccable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is near Pier 7. Spectacular view as well as great overall experience."

  • "Booked through open table and were seated right on time. The food was pretty good ..oysters (raw) were delicious! The risotto I had as an app was also pretty good ..I've had some that are better. My friends tried the lobster Mac and Cheese as their apps and it wasn't spectacular which is what we hoped for. My main dish the handmade seafood pasta came out a bit clumpy ..I'm used to pasta being soft and easy to manage. The whole fish was to be stuffed with crab but it seemed as if the crab had just been topped - the fish however was cooked perfectly and was delicious! My friends temp on the steak was a bit too rare for her and she'd asked for it medium rare but there was a great sear on it which saved it. Overall I'd go back again!"

  • "The food was bland and uninspired. Not bad enough for one star, but nothing memorable or special here."

  • "Leisurely lunch turned into three hours - although our foursome wanted to visit and catch-up, we were left for 30-40 minutes at a time before ANY service checked on us throughout, which was surprising since we were the ONLY party in the restaurant for quite some time - server couldn't describe "what's in a blood mary?" or any special/freshest dishes - he brought out my entrée along with the others' appetizers (the food was all delicious). A dessert that was described as caramel bread pudding came out as sliced prune bread covered in caramel sauce. Once the check requested and he dropped it off, disappeared for 20 minutes until I finally got up to give it to another server. Despite service, we'll give it another shot just for their menu."

  • "Our server was slightly but repeatedly rude. Maybe he was just having a bad day. I've never before experienced anything but pleasant service at the Waterfront."

  • "Our second visit to The Waterfront proved to be as enjoyable as the first. We have family living in the Bay Area so visit frequently, but this occasion we brought friends to the restaurant from back home in Texas as well. We were all pleased with the food--from the appetizer to the desserts. We had a bottle of red and white wine and the list from which to choose gave us a good variety. As always, with our experience, the staff is very attentive and accommodating. And, The Bay Bridge is an added bonus to dining at The Waterfront! We'll definitely return..."

  • "Overall service was OK however one of our guest ask for bread after ordering and the server sarcastically stated. Yes, it will come once he takes all the menus. The bread never came before the meal."

  • "Recently, had dinner at the Waterfront. Everything was perfect, the table the view, the service and the food. We had a wonderful wine and even spend some time in the bar. It was a perfect night!"

  • "Took my parents for 49th wedding anniversary. We were given a wonderful table on the patio with a view of the bridge as the sun set."

  • "I have been to this restaurant many times and have enjoyed the food before. I usually go for the view and fine dining with a group. This last visit the service and food was a little off. We were not asked for what we wanted to drink a good bit after we sat down. I ordered the Seafood linguine and asked specifically if it was spicy and was told no. However, when the food was served it came with red chili peppers. Unfortunately, the wait staff did come back to ask how the food was immediately after serving, so by the time they returned I didn't want the group to wait on me to get another dish, so i kept it. I will think twice next time before planning a group dinner here again."

  • "I have been to the Waterfront Restaurant many times and always enjoyed it. However, this time we had to wait for more than 30 minutes to be seated despite the fact we had reservations. Now, they had a very large party in their covered terrace area as well as a number of other large groups. When we saw the large party, we knew things would be slow, the food would probably not be as cared for as typical, etc. Unfortunately, this proved to be true. It's not their typical mode of operation, so I'm just not sure how to find out whether or not a restaurant has a large group the night you plan to dine there. It seldom works out well."

  • "This has been my "go to" restaurant for business and family events for years but we just had a disastrous Father's Day lunch there. We arrived on time for our 1pm reservation and waited 15 minutes for our table after a surly "greeting". We ordered our meal around 1.45 and still had no food by 2.30... we asked for bread - three times, and water, twice. We finally had to go find the manager who said the kitchen is "backed up" - no apology. We watched as other tables, who were seated after us, were served their food! It's not my "go to" anymore...."

  • "We ate here on Father's Day and were very happy with the food and the service. But the Waterfront Restaurant's best feature it the view and location. It is situated right on the Bay with a fantastic view of the Bay Bridge and the water activity on the Bay. We spent most of our time just enjoying the view and the food."

  • "It took an hour for our meals after ordering lunch, and requesting our waiter three times before he arrived finally to check on us. The prices were high for mediocre food. We left and actually ate elsewhere with the food in to-go bags, as our children were ready to riot. Will never recommend or return here."

  • "We arrived at 3 pm with reservations for what was supposed to be a special Father's Day mid-afternoon meal. Although the restaurant was nearly empty, there were no window seats available because they were setting up for a private party. We were taken instead to a corner table in the upper area with no view at all. We then sat through a meal of pretty good but pretty average food to an hour long seranade of screeching table legs being dragged across the floor (can't these young men pick up a table when they move it?), hustle and bustle and loud talk between the staff. Our waiter asked them to stop. Then the silverware sorting began.we got out of there after the entrees. $181 later, we left vowing not to return. Discount refused. Awful."

  • "My party was running late so I called to confirm that we still had a table. They sat us immediately without a question. Our server Mike was exceptional. He was charming and witty. Three of us ate from the Dine About Town menu and we were not disappointed. The chicken and sole was tender and juicy. Also, the dessert was decadent = Yum! We had a great time and the view of the Bay Bridge was priceless."

  • "Dine about town, supposed to be a selection from the menu that shows you what a restaurant is capable of. If that is the case, I won't be returning to Waterfront to eat. Really bland fried fish covered in a milk reduction. No amount of salt and pepper made this tolerable. Lovely how the staff took away 3/4 full plates without asking why. Great view, good wine."

  • "my first time. receptionist was very pleasant, made it for a nice start. the view is very nice. food was ok, nothing stood out. asked for bread to go with the soup that was served but it did not come until a few minutes after the two soups were finished. Both times, the glass of wine was served after the appetizer and entree arrived. Our waiter was very rushed and snappy."

  • "Not sure if any employee knows they are in the service industry. From the lack of greeting at the door to the waitress who acted as if our ordering of food was a real bother in her otherwise boring day, service was not good. Food was mediocre at cest. Why batter and fry lemon slices to serve atop fish and chips? Perhaps to hide over fried, what looked to be frozen fish sticks. With so many great choices along the Embarcadero, best to avoid this tourist trap."

  • "The Waterfront Restaurant and Cafe on the Embarcadero is a real gem. The staff is very helpful and provide great service. The View is great and the location is great. The patios are very fun and refreshing when the weather cooperates."

  • "My husband and I went here for our 20th anniversary. It was very scenic and romantic; we were seated right near the ocean. The food was delicious, especially the clam chowder! I would skip the calamari, just not that good."

  • "I've never had an issue with the host properly checking me in for any OpenTable reservations but please be sure to check in with a host rather than a waiter when coming to the Waterfront. Not only did the waiter say my name wrong but he also didn't bother to check me in. This action resulted in a "no show" on Opentable.com and I had to call the restaurant later that day to correct this issue. Last year's Dine About Town menu was fabulous (burrata cheese salad with basil & fried onions, fried calamari steak and linguine with clams). This year's DAT menu was terrible - choice of a white bean broth soup, caesar salad, sauteed chicken with veggies and pan fried sole with mushrooms. I was disappointed & will hesitate to come again for DAT ."

  • "Fish was undercooked on inside and burnt on outside and had to send it back. Seafood pasta was average. Many tables empty at lunch so next to no atmosphere. This place is only doing trade on location and prior reputation. I wasn't surprised they didn't initially confirm me as honoring my opentable booking as they are clearly disorganized. Avoid until they change management."

  • "I was not expecting anything spectacular. I have never been here before considering how many times I've driven or walked by. I was very surprised with the service, the ambiance, the food and wine selection. I will be back soon."

  • "We were looking for a place to eat on a Sunday at 8, and there were very few places open...but when we found Waterfront open we were pleased. The Calimari were made with stringbeans and Fennel, all fried to a deliciousness. And the Crab cake was great. The place was almost empty, which we didn't mind at all."

  • "We took a guest from out of town. Parking was easy. The view was spectacular. Food and service were good. It's a little werd that you are in a tented space surrounded by plastic but its pretty nice. We had a good time."

    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "I really wanted to like this restaurant better. The view is spectacular, and I was given a front window table. However the chairs in this place are uncomfortable to the point of unbearable (in the lower dining room. I noticed there were different chairs on the upper level) The backs leaned so far back it was like sitting on a beach recliner, and to sit this way gave me a stomach ache after eating. I had to sit perched forward leaning on the table just to sit upright. My sole was very good and the steamed spinach was cooked perfectly. DH's Mahi was served raw. Our waiter was good but the girl at the front messed up our reservations not once, but twice. Too many other restaurants to try before going back here. Also the $11 drinks were weak."

  • "We wanted a nice lunch while visiting the Exploritorium. This restaurant was close and the food was fantastic. The view was wonderful. It was loud and hard to hear each other. Our waiter had a problem with some of our orders so I wondered if he also had a hard time hearing."
    Dined on 5/25/2014
  • "The Waterfront is an iconic restaurant. At one time, it was the one restaurant you could go to in the area with a spectacular view, but now there are restaurants all along the water, so it isn't unique like it used to be. It's a beautiful place though."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "We called ahead to mention this was a very special occasion A} because we dated and frequented this restaurant 33 years ago B]it happened to be our 33rd wedding anniversary evening. The restaurant was crowded but many choice tables were available. I mentioned to the hostess that we had called and this was a very special night. She sat us in a corner overlooking the Embarcadero not facing the fabulous water view for which the restaurant is named. It was a terrible choice! A pretentious hostess who don't listen and take an interest in what's being said is a real fault. I complained and we were re-seated. It's doubtful that we'll go back. Our waiter was good but we had to ask for bread, butter and water. "
