  • "If you want to impress your significant other, this is the place to be. You walk in to someone playing the piano singing. Then once you are seated you have a beautiful ocean view.... I love it"

  • "The filet mignon was very soft and delicious. The lobster was very good. For the sides, it came with creamy mash potatoes and a lot of fried green beans. I was overwhelmed by the amount of green beans, but that's not a bad thing. Great for a date."

  • "This was our second time here as a group of five. The Crow's Nest rooftop bar is so lovely to sit at and enjoy the weather and the view. The service at the restaurant was excellent. The bread selection is delicious! Hard to stop eating. We ordered the tomato and mozzarella appetizer, which was only disappointing because it came plain and we didn't realize we had to ask for balsamic until we were almost finished eating it. I had the lamb chops, which were outstanding! Filet mignon was also enjoyed, as was the grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. Too full for dessert! The view is worth the hefty prices. It's definitely a great place for a special occasion and go in good weather!"

  • "The Water Club has a very pleasant ambience and we particularly enjoyed the classical music from the live pianist playing. The rainbow trout and duck we had were well-done and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal."

  • "First visit since The Water Club reopened. Glad to find that it is still the same wonderful experience. Love the new menu. It was hard to choose what to order from the varied menu of delicious sounding dishes. My guests and I were celebrating a 70 th. birthday and a 46 th. Anniversary and were all very happy with the entire meal. Looking forward to another visit real soon. Hope to try the brunch offerings."

  • "great view of the east river, I had the tuna steak medium rare- perfectly done, strawberry +banana Flambe prepared tableside- also wonderful. ambience was great, and many were celebrating birthdays there in the neighboring tables- definitely would dine there again."

  • "I took my wife here on Saturday night for her 40th birthday. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. View was gorgeous. I put "wife's 40th birthday" in the comments on the reservation hoping to get a window table. Not only did the Maître D' seat us at a window, when dessert came, the plate had "Happy Birthday' written in chocolate and a candle in it. The waiter and Maître D' sang "Happy Birthday" to her. I would definitely go back."

  • "Our experience was just average. I expected it to be outstanding for the prices we were paying. We originally went upstairs to the roof, but the food was simple barbeque food for very expensive prices so I expected the downstairs dining room to be exceptional. I'm glad I went but I would not go back again."

  • "Great to see that the Water Club has been restored post Sandy to its previous charm. Attentive staff; great views; nice menu and wine list"

  • "My husband and I LOVED everything about this place. From the staff/service, the view, the food (which was excellent), the lounge/bar and the live music. The water club has made it's way to our top 5 favs. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "We went for my mother's 70th birthday and had a wonderful time. The staff was great with us and our 3 1/2 year old daughter and made us all feel at home. Feels like a bit of a throw back to times where you could eat at a "fancy" restaurant, but one that never looked down at it's patrons. We hung out at the chairs near the fireplace while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive and the staff was attentive enough that we never had to look for anyone, but not obtrusive, so we could relax."

  • "We went to New York to celebrate our 50th. wedding anniversary. I looked on the internet for a romantic restaurant and found The Water Club. We had the steak and lobster special for two and it was the most delicious meal we have ever had!! The service was excellent and we had a great seat by the river. What a wonderful experience. Wish we had one of these in North Carolina."

  • "The service was very spotty. Nobody took drink orders but gave us menus and wanted to take food orders. Nobody asked if we needed or wanted anything during the meal. Food without good service is worthless"

  • "Brought my wife there for her birthday. The service was great, the food was surprisingly delicious and accurately proportioned. The view from our window table was priceless."

  • "I worked in a great restaurant my self and I still work in the food and beverage industry. I an speechless about this restaurant. A lot of restaurants are good at something, but there are not so great in others ( if it is not one thing is the other). This restaurant is the whole package in every sense of the word. Try and you will not regret. The staff was very friendly. Keep it up."

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant on the water. Everything was perfect. We talk our two children and their spouses. Out of the 6 of us there were 3 birthdays. It would be easier to say what was not perfect then to list everything that was perfect. The wine list was limited but we did enjoy the wine we selected very much. Cocktails in the lounge after dinner was wonderful as was the piano player who played Happy Birthday to us as well as our other requests. The bar tender was also very attentive. We have been here many times."

  • "Absolutely love this restaurant. The food was phenomenal and service was great. If it wasn't for the pompous maitre d' Dan Sweeney I would definitely come back more often. He was incredibly rude to our party and his snide comments ruined the evening. If only there was a way to avoid dealing with him at this otherwise outstanding restaurant. "

  • "My wife and I were in New York for our one year anniversary and after reading reviews we booked a romantic dinner here. We got a great table and the staff were very friendly. We had a great view of the east river and the UN building. The dinner was very good and we were there for a few hours just enjoying our time. Reviews said it could be hard to get a cab at the end of the night, but we walked out and there was a cab right there. "

  • "I would have given 5 stars had it not been hurried service. The food was simply awesome and worth every penny. I will go again when possible. "

  • "Our first visit since the refurb. Celebrated my wife's birthday. Everything we expected and more. Five star classic food well prepared. Service was outstanding--very attentive, but not intrusive. Chef came out to talk to some patrons and I asked him the mixed green salad previously having pancetta pieces. He said that salad was changed for the new menu, but the next thing I knew, our waiter brought a small bowl of freshly made bacon pieces to put on our salads. We were seated at 6:30 and had almost a full evening of light on the East River. One of our favorites and go to places to celebrate."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary at the Water Club. Situated right on the East River, the ambience was spectacular. The food was excellent and moderately priced by Manhattan standards. The service was great: everyone, from bartender to server, was funny and nice. We had one of the top five dining experiences of my life."

  • "I brought my mom here for her 83rd birthday. She uses a walker and cannot climb stairs. The staff was so accommodating, and made her really comfortable. Food arrived quickly (although a rainy thursday night first floor dining room not half full)The food was very good (main course better than the appetizers we had). Tableside NC trout and pan-seared salmon were excellent! Very attentive wait staff. A great place for those who want classic ambiance in a prententious world where everyone is doing waaayyy too much. PS. Skip the apple pie."

  • "We were there for sunday brunch and wanted the water view, quality food and drink and a bit of service pampering; they did not disappoint. The piano bar was great, Prices reflect the quality and every now and then we should treat ourselves. So head out to the WAter Club"

  • "We went to The Water Club as part of a 10th Anniversary long weekend in New York, which I noted in the special comments when I placed our reservation on line. The views and atmosphere are spectacular, as was the food. When our dessert arrived it had "10 Year Anniversary" written around the plate in chocolate. This was an incredible surprise as the only time we had said anything was in the reservation. It really showed an attention to detail and a care to make a special night for us. They also brought two glasses of champagne. It is a bit out of the way and we had two cabs turn us down from taking us there, so that was a negative, as well as the service is a collective effort, and was a bit slow to start. Highly recommended."

  • "We enjoy this restaurant. Best to drive, it is difficult to get a cab after dinner! east of the FDR on the east river. Food very good as is service. Food service five stars. Valet service 0, was just one guy. After dinner there was a line if eight people waiting for four cars. Slow! A 5th couple arrived, and valet served them ahead of those waiting. Slowly our cars were retrieved one by one. Had a lot of time & complained to the manager who didn't seem to care. Hence 4 stars for service, the valet and manager deserve nothing. The other issue is odd. ladies room toilets very short, small child size and to the floor. Need strong knees to get up. Obviously most ladies stand rather than sit. What a mess."

  • "Can't think of anything especially bad about my dinner experience, but I can't think of anything especially good, either. Service and food were fine. Menu and wine list were extensive but we didn't get any recommendations or pairing suggestions. Courses were also a bit rushed; our main course came about 30 seconds after we finished our appetizer and there was no apology or attempt to give us a moment to breathe; they just swapped out the plates. View is beautiful, and we did get a seat by the window as requested. Unfortunately there was a table of 8 nearby and they were a bit boisterous, something I wasn't expecting at this kind of restaurant. For the price and reputation, I think I expected a little something extra that just never came. :("

  • "I usually avoid restaurants with outstanding views because the quality of the food so often suffers. While the food at the Water Club is not the best in the city, it's pretty good and the menu is appealing (and reasonable, for what you get). The service is old-school and highly competent, unhurried, not pushy. The restaurant was packed, including a large party with many kids in the bar area, but the noise level was low - just a murmur of conversations and an undercurrent of excitement. And the view - miles and miles of river. And the Water Club has its own parking lot - incredible! All in all, its a very special place indeed."

  • "Much better than it needs to be, this view restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Efficient, friendly wait staff. Well prepared food (especially proteins and seafood). Good drinks. Relatively expensive, but that is to be expected. Definitely worth the trip."
