It's become a family tradition that we hope to continue for several years! A "must" is a visit over the holidays to lunch beside the magnificent Marshall Fields (Now Macy's) Christmas tree, and to let the fairies sprinkle "fairy dust" to grant the children's wishes.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNot just for Christmas Holidays! The Walnut Room is always a favorite spot at Christmas, but it's also great for lunch, tea, or meeting friends for dinner after work. Our server, Michael, was great and we had a lovely, relaxing lunch.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMClose to theater DistrictWe were looking for a place to eat on a Saturday night before going to a dance show at the Harris Theater. The prices were extremely reasonable.
My meal was outstanding. I had the meat loaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was presented beautifully and was delicious. My friend was very happy to find an Argentinian wine on the wine list that she had just tasted while in Argentina. She had the cod fish special and was equally impressed. The service was a bit slow but the Walnut Room has a history and ambiance of its own since it is located in Macy's which was formerly Marshall Fields.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service matched our mood,The service matched our mood, which on the day was relaxed. We appreciated not being rushed.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant was chosenThis restaurant was chosen because it is within a block of the Chicago Theater and we had show tickets. It was so convenient with parking right across the street. It was a great way to begin the evening - a moderately priced, yet great meal in the historic Marshall Fields (now Macys) building. The elevator ride to the 7th floor restaurant takes you back in time.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMbetter than average cuisinebetter than average cuisine that is super close to the theater district in Chicago4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA must 2 experience history/foodIt was a great experience in a totally historic setting. The waiter apologized as the restaurant was not busy at all.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMIf shopping in Macy's, thisIf shopping in Macy's, this is a good spot to visit for lunch as it is on the 7th floor of the store. What a treat!! The rest of the meal -- salmon for two, rockfish for two - and desserts were just lovely. Service is attentive, efficient, and a little whimsical. No surly waiters here to deflate the impact of a lovely traditional space, great view, and classical music as accompaniment.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been to The Walnut RoomI've been to The Walnut Room numerous times and have never been disappointed. The Walnut room was what we remembered (even if it was February and the Christmas Tree was long gone). The Chicken Pot Pie is still just as good as we remembered too. Always a special place for a romantic meal.2/17/2013 12:00:00 AMDining at the Walnut RoomDining at the Walnut Room is a wonderful experience. The service is refined and attentive, upscale without being haughty. The food is fresh and inventive. I am a big fan of their unusual version of a mimosa! The room is serene, with classical music as accompaniment. Sit by the windows and look over the Loop. It's an oasis of calm and civility in a loud, often uncivil, world.1/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
