The View Restaurant38th anniversary completeIncredible dining experience atop NYC for our 38th wedding anniversary. Expensive, but worth it.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOverpricedGreat view! Good food, but nothing outstanding. Overpriced, since it's in a fancy hotel in Times Square. Typical tourist trap.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHighlight of our honeymoonWe were delighted with our experience and we would definitely recommend this for anybody visiting NYC. The food, the service and of course that incredible view were exceptional value for money. Nice varied menu too.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfulThe restaurant was beyond our expectations because of the wonderful service and friendly staff. It's a little pricey but for a special occasion, it can't be beat.
And, the food was wonderful with lots of choices and great favors.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWOWI'm not sure which was better, the view from the rooftop restaurant or the food at the Sunday Brunch. No, wait. It was the food. We were amazed at the selections from 4 different areas We can honestly say that this was THE best Sunday Brunch we have ever been to. Oh, By the way, the non stop Mimosa's sure helped!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMRelaxing BrunchGet a relaxing View of Midtown. See 360° of Midtown in about an hour. Stay longer if you like. No one rushes you to turn the table. Servers are very attentive to your needs but not in your way.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWeekend getawayThis is a great restaurant, if you want to enjoy the view of the city. Our attendant was very friendly and polite. My daughter gave him a nick name called ice cream man. My girls who are 7 and 10 did not have a lot of choice in food so that's something that should be improved. I had ordered penne pasta but the order came with shell pasta instead. Great ambience..6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular Times Square views!Amazing overall experience! Staff took great care of us and the meals were excellent. Well worth the price. So impressed.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner at The ViewEnjoyed simple well prepared/presented meal. We started with shrimp ctail. 2 maybe U-10's in delic sltly diff ctail sce. Wouldn't hesitate returning/recommending but next time, will try the lounge which is one floor up with simpler fare but a great-feeling bar and convivial crowd.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMemories are made of this. The View made my 65 th birthday a memorable experience. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, given the spectacular location. Everyone was very helpful. Thanks for getting us a window seat. If only the view had not been half obscured by the tropical rainstorm, but that was hardly the fault of the restaurant. For a special occasion, this will not disappoint.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AManniversary surpriseMy husband took me to the "View" for our wedding anniversary. It was absolutely beautiful. only disappointment was view of Manhattan. Where was it? It was a very raining day did that have something to do with the fact that all we saw was building? I'm confused.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMspectacular experienceFrom walking into the lobby at the marriot i knew this was going to be a great evening. the elevators were amazing and once up to the restaurant we were seated quickly and our drinks were taken almost immediately. the waiter was great and offered to take a photo of us both, a service we had not been offered elsewhere, the food was amazing and the selection of drinks were great too. overall coupled with the fantastic views and great food we had one of the best dining experiences on our stay in new york and will definitely recommend it to other travellers going to stay in new york.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNot all that bad - pretty goodAfter reading all the neg reviews, I fully anticipated spending lots of $$$ and leaving hungry and disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised. Service was very good; staff was attentive and pleasant. Food was good; presentation was nice.
Let's face it, at $79 for a prix fixe meal, you could do better on the food but you'd lose the uniqueness of the rotation and view. Bottom line: The food was good but not NYC foodie good. If you are a food critic, you will not be impressed. If you are not used to spending about $100+/person, your expectations will probably be unrealistic and you will leave angry that you were not dining on edible gold. For those looking for decent food and a unique experience, it's worth considering.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceWent there for an anniversary dinner and was very happy with the overall experience. We went on a wednesday so it was quiet and we could enjoy a nice romantic outing. Service was very pleasant and very unhurried. Would definitely recommend for a weekday night out . Food was okay - I have eaten better, but I really cant complain since it was more about the location, view and the occasion.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFine diningA great dining experience. The food was faultless and the staff were attentive and professional. This restaurant is a must if you are visiting New York.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMNice place, service need improvemenGreat view or the city, very good food, and the server was quite nice with people. The problem are the hostes at the main entrance. They would certainly need some people skills training to welcome whoever crosses the door. Their attitude is not the best and it seems like they are doing you a favor just for letting you in the restaurant.
Overall experience was good6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it!We went early Sunday evening to celebrate husband's 40th. We turned up a bit early so be aware you won't be acknowledged until your allocated time.
It was quiet but the staff we lovely and the bonus dessert for hubby's birthday was fab. Would definitely recommend and the view was great too!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMagical Experience for the FamilyCelebrating our son's 10th birthday, along with his 6 and 7 year old sisters, this was a special treat and pretty unique experience, they won't easily forget. The glassed elevators zoom you up to the 47th floor (like a rollercoaster ride for the kids !). The views are pretty impressive on a good day, and the restaurant slowly turns around 360 degrees about every hour, so you see most of Manhattan during your meal ! The food is OK, and any buffet with a chocolate fountain is awesome for children. The smoked salmon was great, as were the perfectly made pancakes, but the desserts were mediocre. We were surprised with a birthday cake which was much appreciated. I wouldn't go back for the food, but the experience is definitely worth it.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMCouldn't understand the poor reviewI was a little nervous booking given that I saw some bad reviews and it was a fixed menu. However, I was extremely happy! The food was fantastic - I had the heirloom salad, NY steak, and white orang chocolate - and every bite was fantastic and the portions were not skimped on. The only down point was that the waiter took about 20mins to bring out our wine, but he certainly made up for it by giving us some great tips for other places to visit in NYC and even writing them all down for us! And then there's the View. Amazing.
Yes, there was some noise, but it's a big restaurant and that's what you expect with that many people in one room. I could still have a great convo with my date. I'd recommend it to anyone!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service and food.Excellent service and food. A bit pricey but worth the view.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMvery nice, had to make a showvery nice, had to make a show and they were very accomodating!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place for a Broadway NightWe went to The View in between Saturday shows, and had the theatre prix-fixe menu. We chose an appetizer (shrimp cocktail - largest jumbo shrimp I have ever had), a main course (filet - perfectly cooked and well-flavored), and a dessert (chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet - very tasty especially for chocolate lovers). Our server also helped us find excellent choices for wine pairings and the staff was very attentive. Obviously, with a name like The View, the fun part is seeing all of New York as the restaurant slowly rotates. This was disconcerting at first (I was sitting facing backward) but the room rotates so slowly that I soon became used to it. Overall a lovely and romantic evening for a night out at the theatre.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and venue. ServiceGreat food and venue. Service was fine just very slow.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMBest night outWe booked a table for 6pm and the restaurant was quiet. The service was fantastic and the food and the cocktails was out of this world! The main reason for booking the restaurant was of course for the view and it did not disappoint. I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting New York and cannot wait to go back!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful viewI went to this restaurante for the view. I knew the food would be just ok. But the staff was very attentive. I just had some problems to have my espresso. The waiter recomended me to have it upstairs, in a level that I would have an amazing view too. But when I gone up, the waiter refused to serve me because I had dinner at the restaurant. After talk to 5 members of the staff and be a little rude, I had my espresso. I think it could never happens in a restaurante that I spent $ 140.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday celebrationGreat place for our 50th birthday celebration! From the time we checked in to the time we checked out, my friend felt special! Even brought out a birthday cake with candle! Great food and great service!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMTFour2Delicious food, wonderful service, fabulous view, and desserts to die for!5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAmbience was good food greatAmbience was good food great and the view ti die for!5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI was with only one personI was with only one person and tip was still added to our check... it was kinda rude5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMfantastic!!!me and husband spent 5 days in NY for my birthday & our 10th wedding anniversary. We wanted somewhere special to dine and the view is certainly that. Absoltely outstanding. Food perfect, service perfect and view was fantastic. We mentioned to our waiter that it was our anniversary and my birthday and he 'took care' of the puddings for us, bringing out a fantastic chocolate cake, with a candle and congratulations detailed on it. Amazing. Yes it is more expensive than other places but worth it.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThought it would be elegantI guess we went to early at 6:30pm because it seemed like family hour which took away from a special night of dining. I understand that the appeal to the View is the cityscape, however, with all the structural aspects (as needed of course) it would have been nice to have more art and decor inside the restaurant itself.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBroadway BrunchExcellent location for brunch before Broadway matinee. Wonderful variety of food. Beverage service a little slow. Expensive $50+ pp,
That being said, would go again. Recommend.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMspecial occasionI booked the view for my niece's 21st and from the moment we entered the restaurant the staff really made us feel welcome and my niece felt very special as everyone wished her a happy birthdy. We came from Ireland to celebrate her 21st and I was a bit nervous there might be a difficulty but I wish to thank everyone at the View restaurant and Open Table for making it a memorable and enjoyable occasion. Special thanks for the wonderful birthday cake my niece received and our server Amir who made it an even better day. I will recommend the View and Open Table to all my friends. Thank you again.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMOST WONDERFUL EXPERIENCEI took my daughter and friends here May 2012 after she graduated from Columbia Univ. in the evening -- EXQUISITE!!
My boss treated us this May 2013 (I live in California--my daughter lives in New Jersey) for Sunday Brunch. Again--EXQUISITE.
We actually saw our server from LAST May and he remembered us. SUCH A COMPLETELY WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE.
Thank you for asking.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe view over Manhattan isThe view over Manhattan is spectacular, we expected a bit more scenic dishes for that price.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI had the filet mignon. VeryI had the filet mignon. Very good food from the salad to the main course to the desert.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat view, great foodWe were visiting NYC and I wanted to take my wife somewhere special for dinner. The View as certainly that....After making our way through the crowds in Times Square, we took the elevator up to a little oasis of class. The restaurant is appropriately name - the view at The View is great, as is the menu and the wine list. Our waiter - Louis - was very welcoming, good humoured and looked after our needs without being intrusive. A very good night and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWent to The View for my husbandsWent to The View for my husbands birthday/wknd get away. We had an amazing evening, the view of NYC was breath taking. Husband rated this his best birthday ever. When arriving the hostest greates us and told him Happy Birthday!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA class act..I was looking for a romantic spot to take my wife. The View was brought to my attention and it was all it was absolutely the right place to take her. It was very cozy and personnel. The service was perfect for the occasion and the food was top of the line, compliments to the chef. I recommend the View it is a Class Act for sure...5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMamazing experienceI had read all the reviews before going and was 50/50 about what to expect when I first arrived the elevator took us to the 38th floor and I was very shocked at what I saw it was a buffet style café, not at all what I had booked. Well once I had checked in for my reservation they proceeded to take my party of 6 down to the 37th floor which was amazing an elegant dinning atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised that all parties had dressed up for dinner which can be rare when eating at a tourist restaurant but it was amazing the food was outstanding, the service was excellent and the views were exciting lots to see and enjoy.
Our party ranged from 8 years old to 50's and all enjoyed the experience.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMPaying for the placeI've had meals just as good, if not better, at a more reasonable cost. But like the title says, you pay because it's New York. I'm sure the "View" is more impressive after sundown. The food portion was just right. The servers give you time to enjoy each course that is brought to you.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for Looking AroundReally enjoyed the view from this revolving facility. That was why we selected it and it wasnt disappointing. Food was very good, not "oh my God good".
Service was disappointing,5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMPhil's 60th birthdayWe had an unforgettable experience in The View on Saturday evening. I had sent a note when I booked the table telling the staff that it was my husband's 60th birthday and we were greeted by the reception staff wishing him a happy birthday.
The food was exquisite, service excellent and attentive. Thoroughly recommended!!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect viewThis aptly named view is amazing and with good food and wine which was expensive but not extortionate made Wor a wonderful evening in NYC5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect MealIt made the end of our holiday perfect - its as simple as that5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWith my party, I had a party! For this special ocassion it just had to be a view at THE VIEW! I believe memories were made.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you wish make a huge impressionIf you wish make a huge impression on some one.. ( like wife, girlfriend or any special ) definitely go on this one. The view and the food and the overall is a breath breaking at all... 100% recommended5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBest view in New YorkWe thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience at the View. The food was excellent and the views amazing, Add great service and coming out into Times Square, it was a once in a lifetime experience for us.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic service and good dessertsHeld our 1 year anniversary at the View for brunch and the restaurant seated us at a better window-table than we initially booked. They also brought us a happy anniversary cake at the end on the house. Staff was friendly, courteous and serviceminded from the beginning. Food was good, and there were many choices to make as to to which type of food to head for. Outstanding, however, was the desserts with a myriad of different choices - all in sweet flavor - and the marshmallows next to the chocolate fountain is a winner in any book.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch at The ViewWe had a lovely brunch celebrating my birthday w/family. Can not remember the waiter's name, older gentleman. However, we just did not understand his sense of humor. However, because it was brunch, we did not need to deal w/him much at all. When we return to New York, we will definitely make it a point to return. It was recommended by several family members and friends. They were right to insist we come. Thanks for everything!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
