A word from The Vestry
The Vestry resides in the beautifully restored historic building at 777 Valencia, in the heart of the Mission dining scene. The menu features seasonal contemporary Californian cuisine with influences from France, Italy and the Mediterranean, served on dining tables handcrafted from original wood from the building. The bar features cocktails created from quality spirits and flavors, along with a carefully chosen selection of wines by the glass and bottle.

Dining options range from sitting at the bar or intimate tables for two, to larger tables right in the mix, with private dining areas for larger parties. An outdoor dining patio with full sun in the daytime and warm heaters and blankets at night creates another option for dinner or weekend brunch.

Going to a show at The Chapel? Reserve a table for either before or after the show for a convenient, delicious dinner and drinks. The Vestry is also a great go-to spot for late night dining.

Diner Reviews
  • "We had a great time brunching there with bottomless Mimosas. Service was great and most of the food was awesome. Make sure you have a reservation - especially if you want to sit outside."

  • "The food came out very slow, they forgot to make my cocktail and I had to ask for it several times. The food itself was okay, I had the shrimp po'boy, the pickled peppers and carrots made it, it could have used a couple more shrimp. My boyfriend ordered the homemade corned beef hash and there was barely any corned beef in it, the portion was pretty small and was basically just potatoes, definitely not worth $14. Our friend we had Brunch with got the eggs benedict, instead of ham there was bacon. The bacon looked super soggy and again it was a very small portion and not worth $15. However the patio is very nice and if you want to just find a nice place to have a drink in the sun in the mission, this place would be great for that."

  • "For a relatively large brunch group (6), was able to call in and make a reservation the night before, which was great! We were seated immediately and they had no problem with us waiting to order food while our last two people arrived. Very heavy-handed on coffee and bottomless mimosa refills, which were delicious. Music was a little loud for brunch atmosphere, but definitely appreciated the 2000's hip-hop! Service was excellent, would definitely dine again!"

  • "I had written in my reservation notes that we were celebrating a friend's birthday. The restaurant brought us a dessert with a birthday candle, which was very nice. However, this dessert, which we did not order, was charged to our bill. I have never had to pay for a birthday treat at any other restaurant, especially because we had not ordered it. Disappointed and will not celebrate any occasion there again."

  • "Bottomless mimosas on the outdoor patio..doesn't get much better for a Sunday! Try the spicy eggs benedict."

  • "Great place if you are seeing a show at the Chapel. No problem to see the bands we wanted to see, we were surprised how quiet the restaurant was considering there was a band in the next room."

  • "The food was great. Server was friendly enough, but was oblivious of the fact that some diners might be there to see the show at the attached Chapel. It would be helpful to have servers learn info about the evening show before their shift; ours didn't even know who was playing (even though it was on the poster on the wall). And because she couldn't tell us that there would be a long opening act (it was a benefit and there were kids performing before Jackie Greene, who we were there to see), we skipped dessert because we thought we were late, when in fact, we had another 90 minutes before he came on. So we lost our coveted outdoor table and had to leave the venue to seek dessert elsewhere. That was a bit annoying."

  • "Tiny overpriced plates of food that try too hard without result served by the nastiest waitperson we have encountered outside Switzerland (incompetent as well, botching the order and vocally blaming us for their mistakes). Attempts were made to remove the tiny plates before we had eaten, repeatedly - do they not have enough plates? (Yes, the old "the food is awful and such small portions" review.) Do not try to drive to the Vestry as you will not find parking - I circled for 40 minutes in order to park 8 blocks away. I gotta feel sorry for long time residents of the Mission, and now I understand why people are upset about 30-something faux hipsters infesting the city."

  • "While I've been to the fabulous Chapel a few times, this was my first time eating at the Vestry. That night was a particularly warm one in SF, so we were fortunate to have the option to sit outside on the patio! The menu wasn't extensive, but I thought it had a good selection that will appeal to different people. At first I balked when I received my ravioli (which was three giant sized ones - for $16), but I ended up being pleasantly full. the Drinks were top notch as well....Try the Lady Guadalupe!"

  • "Shane is the best server during brunch hours, ask for him and you won't be disappointed. While The Vestry serves standard brunch fare on the weekends, not that all egg dishes are poached, and you can't substitute other egg preparations (eg, scrambled, over medium). The outside patio is great for sunny days, it does have heaters but they won't do much to block the wind if the weather isn't cooperating. "

  • "What an interesting and unique place! Food was excellent.... surprisingly so. The intriguing layout and ability to see through into the music venue was great!"

  • "This is a great spot. I had the tequila cocktail with habanero and it was very tasty. Shared the mussels and skirt steak with my gf and everything was excellent. The space is also broken down so while there is energy in the place you don't feel like its too loud or crowded. My only issue was the steak portion could have been a little larger. And I normally think restaurants provide meals that are too large. All said I'd come back for sure."

  • "First I was able to make reservations Saturday afternoon for that night which is a feat unto itself. The drink menu is very orginal. I had the mezcal martini & it was delish. The waiter explained to us that dishes were sharable and that they come out of the kitchen at different times so we were prepared for a casual eating experience. First we had mussels & fries. The muscels were great but maybe a smidge too much Pernod in the sauce. Fries were plentiful. This was followed by the meatballs which I had read were good. They did not disappoint & were my favorite of the night. Finally we had the kale faltbread which was new to the menu. It was just ok but the flatbread had a nice crust which we used to sop up the meatball sauce"

  • "The duck carbonara was delicious; the mix of creamy sauce and the crispy duck was totally yummy!! I was impressed with the wait staff; we were done before the show at “The Chapel” started at 9pm. I changed my reservation three times and they were totally accommodating, I cannot wait to try brunch. We were a party of 4 and everyone loved their meal. "

  • "I've read great reviews for dinner and cocktails here but it didn't translate to brunch. There were many challenges with our meal from dense biscuits, the wrong item being served, long wait times for all service, bottomless mimosa not being refilled without a request, to the server not being aware of what menu items actually are. We might try it for cocktails and bar food but definitely not brunch again."

  • "Went with a group of friends (4 of us total) and we are from the neighborhood. We were seated promptly and the waiter greeted us promptly. Once the he took our orders, bam that was it. Food came one at a time with the last of us being served 10 minutes after the first of us were served. Then as we finished eating, a waitress just walked by, stuck her hand in and pulled a plate out without asking if we were finished or if there was anything else we would like. She did this repetitively one plate at a time on each trip by the table. Then the waiter re-appeared and wanted us to order dessert. We had enough at this point and said we were finished we were going down the block for a glass of wine. He told us that was a bad idea."

  • "Brunch at the Vestry was wonderful on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The hollandaise on the eggs benedict was very good. The place was very busy, but the staff worked hard to take care of us. The bloody marys tasted smokey and good. It was nice to be able to have cocktails to compliment our meal."

  • "Really disappointed with my experience at The Vestry. The food was mediocre. But what annoyed me the most is that even though I reserved ahead, they also had an event on in the restaurant so everyone who was not part of the event had to sit outdoors.... And it was freezing. Really poor management to do that to customers"

  • "Made reservations, got to the restaurant , told the waitress my name and that it was for two, she looked at me as if i was nuts, I repeated myself twice until i had to tell her i was talking about a reservation. The bar had people in it but the restaurant was empty. She sat us at this half of a table for two. There were plenty of 4 tops since there was no one eating. Someone promptly brought us water. That was the last we had someone come to our table for the next 15 min. There were plenty of employees scurrying around but none to pay attention to the customers. As we waited we decided to read the reviews. To our surprise our experience had already been recorded. A very tall waitress had walked past us 5 times before acknowledging us."

  • "Very dark so hard to see what you are eating - service fair but not quite good. Hostess was great. Moscow Mule delish. Cheese plate - Average. Brussel Sprouts - Average. Radiatorre - Good but quite salty. Beet Salad - Very Good. Quite a loud space. Best thing about it is that if you dine a little early you don't have to struggle to park for the show at the adjoinging Chapel."

  • "Went here on a whim last Friday night and was really impressed w/the food and the service. We started w/the Moroccan Frito Misto - lighly fried w/a refreshing aioli. My date had the Rigatoni Calabrese - he said it was the best pasta dish he's ever had - I have to agree - I will likely order it when I go back again. I had the Fried Chicken - it wasn't what I was expecting but quite delicious. The chipotle sauce had a real kick but was on the side so you could take as mich as you wanted. We ended w/the Warm Sticky Toffee Cake which was a grea cap to an excellent meal. Will definiitely go back again."

  • "Ate at restaurant as we were going to the John Fahey Anniversary show at the Chapel. Flatbread/pizza was the best. Salads a little pricey. What they really need is more vegetarian options. Even the brussel sprouts side had ham in them."

  • "We had a great experience at Vestry. Starting with a unique pre-dinner cocktail - there are kits if good ones to choose from. We were seated promptly and the food and service were wonderful. We tried several different things on the menu - some of them outside of our typical ordering routine - and everything was delicious! The vibe is awesome - the lighting, the music - We liked it all. Seemed like many people were attending the show at the Chapel that night after dining there. We'll do that next time, but even without the show, the food was enough to make our date a great one. Overall a great dining experience."

  • "We took friends from out of town to this favorite restaurant. The food was delicious (flank steak, Brussels sprouts, fried chicken) and the cocktails were amazing (love the names!). The adjacent bar and music venue made it easy to roll into a memorable evening for our guests. Top of my list!!!"

  • "The mussels were amazing! The duck sausage was incredible. Worth checking out."

  • "There is clearly an eager chef behind the scenes, but the ennui of the front house staff is hard to take. We were seated at a tiny table barely qualifying as a bar table crammed against a side wall, despite several four-tops being open and the restaurant not that busy. People seemed locked into their roles (I'm just the water guy, I only run food, I only bus dishes) and there wasn't much coordination so our main courses were fired and arrived before i had finished my salad, there was no room to set the food down, and no one had coordinated with the buser so the food runner basically stood there while we cleared our own plates. It was also a shade too dark to count as ambience."

  • "The duck confit flatbread was absolutely delicious!! The duck was perfectly crisp, the flat bread was flaky and the green olives complimented the duck with just enough salt to add to the savory appetizer. We were very happy."

  • "As a server that works in a busy restaurant in the mission, I tend to be very forgiving of my fellow foodservice brethren. I really wanted this place to be great. Unfortunately, dining here was a very disappointing experience. The food was mediocre and overpriced. While there was an abundance of servers, the service was neglectful. They took our order for drinks and food and then never checked back in. Everytime I'd make eye contact with a server (the "I need something look") to get a refill on coffee or mimosa, they would smile and keep walking. As a fellow foodservice employee I can understand when a restaurant gets busy the service can be affected, but this place was virtually empty. Bottomless mimosas, who cares? I won't be back"

  • "Rich, earthy, tiny little bit spicy savory bites with a good wine list. It's what a Friday night amongst friends should be along the Valencia corridor."
    Dined on 1/10/2014
  • "The restaurant is very convenient to The Chapel, obviously, and is in a good location for the Valencia club/bar scene. The food was ok: pork tenderloin breaded & paper-thin (not how you expect meat described as "tenderloin" rather than paillard or cutlet on the menu); sturgeon was an appetizer sized portion -- although it was billed and priced as an entree; the burgers were fine, but nothing special. The fritto misto appetizer was weirdly soggy and quite spicy. The drinks were fine, the joint was jumpin', but the service was really awful, slow, lackadaisical, & frustratingly uncommunicative. Fish came first, 5 min later pork, 10 min later burgers: hey, kitchen, I can screw up timing at home -- you're supposed to be PROFESSIONALS."

  • "Food and service were average. Enjoyed the cremini flatbread and meatballs. Had the fritto misto and fatty pork (cant recall their menu names), I would not re-order either. Our party of 4 was cramped into a corner - annoying to have other guests bump us from behind. Dinner music was too loud, and we asked if they could lower the volume. Instead it felt like they turned up louder. If it wasnt for the location of Vestry being next to our post-dinner event at Chapel, I would not return given this experience."

  • "The table for two in the side room is too small for two people and squished up against the wall. I suggest creating more space for the tables for two in the side room."

  • "so, this is a tough one. the food here was really good, but the bar is definitely the draw, which means that it is so load that it was hard at times to hear the people i was with, although most of the time it was okay. but the tables for the dining areas are not ideally situated. it feels like a bar that decided that they should also have a restaurant. that being said, the food was fab, and very well priced.n the croustini was exceptional. the sturgeon the same. we skipped dessert, but they looked good too. service was fine. not great, not bad. fine."

  • "I went here with my wife before a show at the Chapel. We really enjoyed our dinner; we started with the chantrelle flatbread which was rich and flavorful, done just right. For entrees my wife had the radiatore pasta with kale and squash, it was very tasty. I'm not a huge fan of either kale or squash but this was delicious. I was a bit less enamored with my Sardinian sausage with fregola past...it was okay but nothing exceptional. Still not a bad dinner. The dessert sealed the deal for us, we go the "It IS it", a delicious (and generously portioned) serving of ice cream with oatmeal cookie, toffee, and a hard chocolage fudge shell. Great way to round out the meal. We'll definitely be back. The brunch seems to get good reviews."
