  • "There are many great dining options on Amelia Island, but The Verandah really stands above the crowd. We had never eaten there and decided to try it on Saturday, March 22, our last night on the island. We made a 6:45 reservation and were seated right away. A party walked in ahead of us without a reservation and were told it could be close to an hour wait. Service was great, food absolutely delicious right down to the cornbread muffins in the bread basket! The waitress brought us a little sample of a sweet corn soup that I'm still dreaming about! I had the crab cakes and they were some of the best I've ever had. My husband had the seafood muddle and he loved every last bite. We will be sure to go back on our next visit."

  • "The Veranda has been updated with the OMNI remodels and it is all good now! Nice location overlooking the Tennis facility (not a bad seat in the house!) and while kid friendly, still very nice for a romantic dinner. The wine selection was very good both by the glass and bottle and the food was plentiful and delicious. The Crab Crusted Grouper was a treat!"

  • "Very disappointed in the unfriendly atmosphere & some staff. Our reservation was not to be found in the computer. We specifically ask to be seated where it was quiet; the hostess tried to seat us near the bar area! We ask to be near the windows where it would be more quiet. It was to be a birthday celebration but they did not have that in the computer system either. Our waiter was friendly but rushed as it was .Concorde d'Elegance weekend so tried to move people out quickly. The food was not up to par. Salmon was not wild as stated w/mushrooms & a nice sauce but that was it! And this was the feature entree of the night. Too bad as it was a fine place w/fine food for many years"

  • "Though we hadn't been to Verandah in quite some time, we made reservations primarily because it was convenient to a concert venue we were attending on a Sunday evening, when several other restaurants in the area are closed. A good friend, who is the consummate foodie and gourmet chef, had to be persuaded to join us because a few people had posted negative reviews (even though many more had a positive experience). We were relieved to find him pleasantly surprised, not only by our server's knowledge and attentiveness, but also by the presentation of our dinners. It didn't come as a surprise that our friend found a few things to criticize re: food quality, but even he was impressed overall."

Although it was Valentine's Day, all dining was by reservation so the restaurant had advanced knowledge of the demand on their staff. Waiting 45 minutes between ordering and delivery of desert was unacceptable! Yes, we communicated this to the manager on our way out."

  • "My husband and I have dined here before and thought it was delicous. We had heard the menu was changed so we didn't know what to expect. We were seated promptly. Our waitress, I believe Tina, was very knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful. We had the sampler as an appitizer which was very good. We were given a lovely "flower pot" of rolls and wonderful corn muffins. Also a sampler of their sweet corn soup which was sweet, smooth and delicious! We both had a seafood dish, his was a bowl of seafood with mahi mahi, shrimp and clams and mine was the grouper, covered with crab meat. Both were scrumptious! We ate every last bite! I wanted to return again on Saturday night, we didn't but I long to return again soon!!"

  • "Newly renovated with a new chef, this is a hidden gem on Amelia Island. No one should leave the island without eating here once. Local ingredients (listed by boat captain and farms), prepared exquisitely without being "weird". Everything we had was great (including the martinis). Much less expensive than the Ritz's Salt fine dining restaurant and truly as good."

Our drinks were cold and good and strong. Oysters were large and crisp. My grouper entree was tender and large. The grilled salmon was tender and excellent, too. The manager brought our meals so they were hot. All staff was attentive and polite. We will definitely return again and again."

If we thought we could have gotten in somewhere else we would have left. Very disappointing and especially when we were seated because there were free tables. Not going to return soon. A reservation to me means, you are seated at arrival."

  • "The Verandah was open for dining on Christmas night, but the kitchen seemed to be woefully understaffed. We arrived at 6:30 but didn't leave until after 9:00. Everything took to long to arrive at the table from bread to appetizers to entrees. The quality of the food was acceptable but nothing better. My grouper was huge but tasteless. My son-in-law's tuna which should have been 3/4 to an inch thick looked to be about 1/4 of an inch and way unappealing; a white slap on the plate. I use the word "slap" deliberately - that's what it looked like. The ambiance is nice. But our experience that evening would not induce me to return. In fairness, we had been there once before when both quality of food and service were very good."

  • "We had a 3 course meal on Thanksgiving. The hostess was rude and made no attempt to engage. The appetizer was good. The entre was OK but the portion size was incredibly small. The dessert was laughably small - a little sliver of cake and a hollow little ball of melting ice cream. This was second and last time we'll try the Veranda. Two big problems with this place. First, the food is overpriced, with small portions for big money. Don't eat here if you are hungry. Second, there is absolutely no ambience. The walls are devoid of any decorations and the lighting is poor. No table candles or anything by way of an effort to create an atmosphere. There are so many better choices in the area besides this place."

  • "First of all the service was wonderful. Our waiter ( Tyler) couldn't have been more helpful and we appreciated that the chef came out to discuss the fresh oysters. The crab dusted grouper was delicious and the local Mayport shrimp were good fried or grilled. We were all impressed with quality of the food and the willingness of the staff to add the extra touches that made our family dinner so special. That includes the 7 maraschino cherries on a Shirley Temple that delighted our 6 year old !"

  • "Our meal was delightful. Our server recommended the crab cakes and the grouper. Both favorites of ours so we went for them. We shared our dinners and both meals were not only delicious but unique in flavor and unlike anything we've had before. The Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer were right out of the pan and perfect with the sauce they serve them with. Serving sizes were generous and left no room for dessert unfortunately. We live an hour away and had come to spend the night at the beach. We will come back again just for the food."
