"Can't say enough good things about The Veranda. Had Jay as our server and he was simply nothing short of amazing. The service was outstanding, the food was great and the ambiance was perfect. Came in from out of town to visit UAB and wanted a nice dinner, this was the spot.
If all the soups sounds good, that is probably because they are, the sampler is the way to go. Then from what I could see there was no way to go wrong with entrees. Jay made some wonderful suggestions and was quite attentive. I would not hesitate to come back here.
Again, just a very big kudos to Jay who made the night. So glad that we found this spot!!"

"Book for Easter Brunch. Came from out of town and was blown away. The menu was imaginative and very true to southern roots. The feel,which the owner is trying to create, is clearly New Orleans. As I was with 3 transplants from New Orleans, the bar was set high. The Veranda passed with flying colors! The roving jazz combo was quite a nice touch, never intrusive, and always entertaining."

"It was Easter; but, the service was extremely slow. The time between courses was excessive. They needed to turn the table for waiting customers; yet, we had an extended wait for the check. Food and ambiance were outstanding."

"A live jazz band that makes the rounds of the dining areas during Sunday brunch, free valet service, beautiful surroundings, wonderful food, delightful service; was a perfect experience for our Mom's birthday. Will definitely return."

"My husband and I dine at Veranda on a semi-regular basis and we have never been disappointed. The wait staff are polite and very competent and the food is well above average. I have tried several of their dishes, including the fried oysters, duck breast, lamb shank and roasted quail and each one is delightful. Although my personal favorite is the Soft Shell Crawfish on the appetizer menu, you simply can't go wrong regardless of what you order."

"The food was as good as we have had anywhere. Within our group we tried the duck, the lamb, shrimp and grits and the pork chop. Each was excellent. The lamb was exquisite. The service was strange to say the least.The timing was really slow and we were there 40 minutes before they took our entree order and that is only after I ask the waiter to take it.1 hour 40 minutes into the meal the desert was just coming out. And we had preordered the apple pie desert with was awesome. If you are into a 2 hour meal then this is your place. I will say you won't find food any better prepared anywhere in Birmingham."
