Awarded "Best Sushi" 2012 and 2013

Chic. Modern. Sophisticated. But also casual and friendly. The Venue is the cool hot spot on El Paseo, popular with locals, out-of-town visitors and food critics who serve up rave reviews. The Venue is artful, from its sleek décor to the original, ever-evolving menu, enthusiastically created by owner/chef Engin Onural. "This is my art," he shares. "Each plate is a painting, but I use fish instead of paint."

  • "We cane with our 2 little kiddos and the wait staff was super kid friendly, even when the baby broke a glass. Thank you so much for turning what could've been a bad experience at an upscale sushi restaurant into a great family dinner!"

  • "We were look for a sushi restaurant that was comparable to those we have back home in Seattle, which the Venue did match up... Fresh sushi, great surroundings and a friendly staff... Thanks for the great experience"

  • "This place had a great lively atmosphere. It was a good LA scene even though it was in the desert… Good place to take a first date. Sushi was good comparable to other restaurants. But the atmosphere and service made it worth the price."

  • "By far the BEST sushi in the area! Great service and unique specialties."

  • "As locals, there was a time when we had to go to LA to for good, innovative sushi. Once Venue opened that ceased to be the case. We eat at Venue often and always satisfied with the quality of the food and service. Friends will make us try other places but we always return to Venue. The service is top notch as the staff takes a great deal of pride in what they do and what the restaurant offers."

  • "Ate here with my wife on a Saturday night. The restaurant is quite small and the tables are pretty much packed in. We sat next to another couple who may as well have been sharing our table because they were that close...like nearly rubbing elbows close. The server was unattentive at best and although we arrived early. The evening was pretty much like that in its entirety. I'm not a sake drinker and the wine list is limited. No full bar. Sushi was good but not memorable and fairly expensive. If you like average food with below average service in a place where you can hear the entire conversation next to you then be my guest. There are enough sushi restaurants downtown in Palm Desert that I'll choose somewhere else next time."

  • "This restaurant lived up to all of the great reviews. We were with a group of 10 and had the opportunity to try most of the rolls on the menu. All of them were outstanding, and we looked forward more and more to the waiter bringing each one. The sushi is very fresh, with a taste that is beyond description. The sashimi platter is a must try. Each piece seemed to melt in my mouth. No kidding! The service was a little slow, but on the night we were there, they seemed to be exceptionally busy with large parties. I have already recommended this restaurant to many friends and will continue to do so."

  • "Good, innovative sushi. A bit too much focus on fancy fusion rolls, and less on traditional Japanese-style sushi. Nonetheless, quite tasty."

  • "I am what Open Table refers to as a "VIP Member." Essentially what this means is that I dine out and use their website frequently. A better moniker might be "Constant Website User," as I do use the site quite often. I feel very compelled and really quite eager to review this incredible place. Without question or hesitation this is the finest restaurant I have experienced in years, including restaurants in many major "foodie" cities AND Japan. The chef has creativity and talent in abundance. The entire dining experience is stunning, and the food is quite simply OUT OF THIS WORLD. Atmosphere and ambiance? Superb, as is the service and the overall attention to detail. RUN, don't walk to this incredible place."

  • "Not being much of a sushi follower, I went hesitantly to this restaurant to appease some in-laws. What a great surprise. Not only did I enjoy the food, the service was also great and appreciative for our business. We had reserations for a Sunday night at 5:30, and by 6:30 there was nary a table left. It seemed that everyone was having a great time."
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "Based on other reviews, we expected the food to be special but it wasn't. The fish was largely tasteless. The special rolls were just okay. In addition, the price was high. Unfortunately, a miss"

  • "this is one of our favorite desert dining experiences; we can't get enough of it. Engin is a superb chef and a great restauranteur. His front man, Lucky, is a dashing and attentive manager who is eager to attend to your needs. We leave ourselves in Engin's capable hands when we arrive and don't even have to look at a menu. what a find!"

  • "We went to the Venue in order to try their Sushi. We were very pleased. The menu has some unusual, different options from the typical sushi bar. It was great."

  • "Admire the young owner/sushi chef. Puts his heart and soul into his craft. Service was great. Sat at the bar. Usually prefer sashimi but had omikase which had both rolls and sashimi. Good Sake"

  • "Best sushi we have found in desert. Really fresh fish. Sit anywhere not just at the sushi bar and enjoy the ambience. Very attentive service. Try the specials. Will definitely go back!"

  • "This was our second time to the Venue; and again the food and service were outstanding. We were fortunate to have an outdoor table on a beautiful evening, and were able to watch the people going by on El Paseo. We highly recommend this restaurant if you have a passion for sushi."

  • "We were visiting from Los Angeles and wanted to have good sushi for dinner. Found the Venue on Yelp and gave it a try based on other reviews. The prices are hidden on their website. We eat sushi at least once a week here in LA and know what good sushi mean and how much they should cost. They charge $6 for two nigiri sushi, $10 for what they call a large hot sake (usually it is small size at other restaurants), rolls are $16 to $19 and one they even trying to sell for $25??? This is a joke. There are no Japanese chefs, the bar is not typical sushi bar where you see action happening, it is dead. The quality of fish is good and fresh, but again it is not worth the money."

  • "Food was surprisingly good. One in our party who eats sushi regularly thought it was very good. This was the first time here for all of us. Service was excellent, no rushing and we sat for a while after dinner was completed. We would all recommend ."

  • "Everything we had from the sashimi hamichi to the spicy tuna roll tasted fresh and was presented better than anywhere I have been in a long time. The specialty rolls we had were also perfect, wish I didn't live so far away!"

  • "Finding any good ethnic food in the desert is a challenge....overloaded with Mexican and steakhouses and moderately innovative food that most restaurants here try to gouge you for the Venue is a rare find. Not only is it the freshest fish in the desert but it's just hip enough to be inviting to all age groups. Small, not to loud and creative. Service is good and we really appreciate that!"

  • "Unfortunately, we were there for a 6:30 reservation and the kitchen was not up to normal speed standards. After we ordered some starters and wine, they took 30 minutes to get. Fortunately the waitress did check in with us several times. Once the Resteraunt started clearing out, things came more quickly. The sushi was great, I hope they figure out the delivery system!"

  • "We had Christmas Eve dinner here and it was fantastic. Great service and the sushi was great. Not your traditional sushi menu but still excellent. We did the endless bubbles and fixed menu and liked all but one of the rolls served (feta cheese on sushi... not a fan). Ambiance inside and out is inviting. We ate on the patio and were very comfortable. We will return!"

  • "we made resies thru OpenTable only to arrive and find that only available tables were outdoors and it was probably going to rain/sprinkle. Manager offered us a bottle of wine to stay and arranged outdoor seating under umbrella and with heat lamps so all was well. Never got cold or wet and food was as always very good."
