A word from The Van's 'On The Hill'
Delight your friends and out-of-town visitors by introducing them to The Van's Restaurant in Belmont. The famous restaurant is frequented by the San Francisco Giants, 49ers and celebrities nationwide including The Van's own celebrities: an extensive family of regular patrons, history buffs and culinary connoisseurs. Restaurants on the Peninsula come and go. The reason The Van's has remained popular for so many years is that the quality of food and service continue to be consistent; the atmosphere and welcome is always warm and friendly; and going to The Van's is like going home to meet friends and family.

Come and enjoy our Attitude Adjustment $5 Bar Bites. These items are available at the bar only from 3pm-6pm Monday-Friday AND AGAIN at 8:30pm-10:30pm every night.
You can also enjoy our Daily Special Offerings at the bar. Available twice a day from 3pm-6pm and 8:30pm-10:30pm Monday-Friday only.

  • "Wow, this was a really different dining experience than what I accustomed to from "The Vans". They were NOT up to their usually quality, service and friendliness. Even when we checked in, I didn't get that "You're special" feeling from the host. I have been ordering the Van's special "Scallop dinner" for years and always look forward to this wonderful dish. This time the scallops were under-cooked and luke warm. Honestly, I could barely eat it. I didn't want to send it back because you know what they say about dinners that are sent back to the kitchen. I ate what I could and didn't complain. Still gave them a great tip because our waiter was trying his best, but honestly I don't think I will be back anytime soon. Hope this was a fluke."

  • "Great view, very good service. The rack of lamb was good but not great. The lemon meringue pie, however, was to die for! I took half of it home and ate it two days later. The cute piece of pastry with Van's name written in chocolate was then soggy, but the meringue and filling were still absolutely divine!"

Youngest kid had mac and cheese w/ bacon that made her very happy. Onion rings served on the side were a little greasy...that would be the only issue."

As like dinner, the food and service at lunch was very good. Both my friend and I had Sand Dabs. They were as good as any I've had in Monterey or Carmel."

  • "In the past I have enjoyed dining at 'The Vans' due to it's great ambience and food. Unfortunately this was not the case during my last dinner there on March 8th. I made reservations for 5 people and stated at the time of the reservations that we were celebrating my son's birthday. When we arrived the host brought us right away to our table. Immediately I mentioned that the table was too small for the 5 of us. 3 were men at 6' 4" tall. The table we were given was a booth and a chair at the end which was blocking the walkway for others. This experience has left a 'bad taste' in my mouth for any future visits to your restaurant. The host needs some training on the proper way to treat his guests!"

  • "It was a birthday celebration and I had baked a cake ahead of time, I called the restaurant to make certain it was ok and was told sure, but the would charge a 70 cent per person cutting charge! I thought that would be $4.90 for our party of seven. When the bill came they had tacked on a whopping 13.96. This was outrageous. I had already spent the time and money baking a birthday cake from scratch and then they charged us almost $14 for the privilege. Note to future diners, don't bring your own cake, their fees are ridiculous."

They make delicious, lean filet mignon and yummy garlic mashed potatoes and they serve this with cooked veggies that are still crisp. The wine list is decent. The deconstructed banana pie is delicious and enough for two people. This is a wonderful place to dine, to grab some wine or coffee and dessert and to just hang out."

  • "Took my girlfriend to Van's for Valentine's Day. Was seated approximately 8 inches away from the gentleman at the table next to me, meaning I was much closer to him than I was to my date. Conversation was basically at a whisper for the next 10 minutes, as we tried not to disturb the other patrons, and we could barely hear each other. After about 10 minutes of this, another couple was seated at the table on our other side. This couple was very loud, and attempted to barter with and complain to the wait staff about trading a comped bottle of wine for cocktails of the same dollar value. This couple did not have indoor voices and ruined the atmosphere. Their food was then of course served first, while our waiter was absent the entire meal"

  • "I went online and found two tables one for 4 pm and one for 4:30, I chose the later and with in seconds we had our Reservation! I was thinking this early of a date would be a bad choice but this proved to be untrue.Upon arriving we were brought to a fabulous corner window table upstairs with a panoramic view of the Bay Area and that evenings sunset! Thanks Van's, You made my Valentines Day extra special for both my Date and I!"

  • "Went very early on Valentine's day, service was slow & not friendly. Bussers however were very friendly & attentive, it was the wait staff that lacked. Waiter did not ask how anything was, if we needed anything,another drink, he was most consumed with his regulars. This place is like in a time warp, and they cater to their 65 - 85 year old clientele, with everyone else being invisible. For the prices they charge, they should provide better service, ambience and food.. The view is nice but that's about it. One of us ordered the lobster tail, very small for $44. The NY strip was good, but they wouldnt substitute anything for roasted potatoes which were hard as a rock and dry. One plate had only 5 string beans, others had more. Dissappointing."

This historic landmark offers sweeping views of the Peninsula, Bay and San Mateo Bridges, and the East Bay. The waiters are warm and friendly and remember returning customers fondly. The food includes many home-made, unique recipes, from salads to desserts. I highly recommend dining at The Van's!"

I haven't found many restaurants that offer a Monte Carlo sandwich on their menus --- this one was all I remembered it to be --- delicious! Our waitress was pleasant, efficient and helpful without being "too much". Of course, the open-air view from the top of the hill only added to the enjoyment of the occasion."

  • "Went here for a 'Last Day of Vacation' dinner. Got a bit dressed up, which seemed proper, but not necessary We started off with the calamari...probably the best I've ever had. It was crisp and tender and delicious. I ordered the medallions of beef with garlic mashed potatoes. So tender!!! The sauce and mushrooms were a great compliment. And the garlic mashed potatoes were so creamy! My date got the filet mignon. Again delicious. For dessert we ordered the New York cheese cake and the white chocolate banana cream pie (they were out of the piña colada pie) The cheesecake was alright and I was a bit confused by the presentation of my pie. A little too heavy for my taste. Overall, dinner was amazing! Dessert, could have lived without"
