A word from The Van's 'On The Hill'
Delight your friends and out-of-town visitors by introducing them to The Van's Restaurant in Belmont. The famous restaurant is frequented by the San Francisco Giants, 49ers and celebrities nationwide including The Van's own celebrities: an extensive family of regular patrons, history buffs and culinary connoisseurs. Restaurants on the Peninsula come and go. The reason The Van's has remained popular for so many years is that the quality of food and service continue to be consistent; the atmosphere and welcome is always warm and friendly; and going to The Van's is like going home to meet friends and family.

Come and enjoy our Attitude Adjustment $5 Bar Bites. These items are available at the bar only from 3pm-6pm Monday-Friday AND AGAIN at 8:30pm-10:30pm every night.

  • "I love their escargot, but this time, it was not sizzling hot when it was presented in front of me. We are a party of 6, everyone had appetizers and loved their choices. I always order medium rare for my salmon, but it came to me as medium. Our fellow diners ordered medium for the salmon and came out dry ( unable to finish the meal). They were very busy (Father's Day), since our table was on the top floor, I think that the food cooled by the time they brought it up."

  • "The night before Father's day my family and I went to The Vans for dinner. From the time we got our table to the time we left, everything was perfect. The food was brought out on time and the waiter was always around to help us when we needed his assistance. I am very Happy with the whole night. And my daughter wasn't as fussy as I thought she would be. And everyone who hasn't or hadn't gone there before, had enjoyed the food and the company and the scenery from the windows. And we all enjoyed spending the night with each other."

  • "We ate here for lunch. Apparently, the restaurant only serves steaks during dinner. Darn!! Ordered the salsbury steak with capers and it was delicious! On the other hand, my husband ordered the chicken fried steak and it was just ok. Beautiful view of the peninsula. Restaurant is very very dated, but clean. Lots of parking."

  • "I've eaten here many time, but the service was terrible this time. I don't know if they were exceptionally busy (Weds) that night, but everything took for ever. I complained, and they comp'd the desert. That never came out either, so I asked for the check, and desert to go. They also charged me for 2 martini's, and I only had one. Bad night! "

  • "The apps very were good and waiter was really nice ( when we saw him) but service time was SO slow and when we got our food it was not very good ;( prime rib, no flavor, onion soup So salty I had them take back.. My son had alfredo that i could have made.. My mom loved her Thai salad, I agree it was tastie. I just wanted our 1st time to be better.. And $250 should har been :("

  • "Each time we eat here, we say we should come back more often. The food is consistently good, and the views are great. This time, I had pasta with sausage, with enough left over for another meal at home. My son had the prime rib, and my husband had the burger. We were all very happy with our choices. We also shared calimari as an appetizer, and a brownie sunday as a dessert. On this most recent visit, our waiter was very friendly and helpful when he came by the table, but there were long stretches where he was nowhere to be found."

  • "We've been going to Van's for many years, and always have enjoyable meals. Each trip brings back memories of the past years. This restaurant makes for nostalgic and fun times. It must be the inner surroundings , especially the fun bar area. The bartender is quite sociable and tends to make one reminisce and to remember the "good ol' days!" The maitre d' is a former well known jockey and horse trainer that warmly greets everyone and adds to the enjoyment for a wonderful time and dining pleasure. "

  • "I think the view is unparalleled in the Bay Area and that is the only reason to go here. We had a reservation for 6:30 and were seated at 7:10. There were more open tables than occupied when we sat down, so maybe they were having staff issues. I get it. Things happen. But the food is trying to be classic steakhouse out-of-town grandparent fair, but fails even there. Medallions of beef were rubbery. Garlic mashed were dried out and not good. The waitress informed us that my daughter's hamburger was cooked well and had to be refired as she had ordered medium. 25 minutes later the hamburger arrived rare. We didn't have the heart to send it back because we were ready to leave at that point. But they do have chicken fried steak. Gross. "

  • "in my recent visit I ordered the dreaded name__Salisbury Steak. It in no way resembled the stuff found in TV dinners.It was a seared steak tartare specked with onions, eggs and capers, covered in the lightest glaze and topped with huge sauteed mushrooms. Absolutely delicious! A modernized twist. The other person at the table had huge tempura shrimp and Seafood Chowder. Both magnificent."

  • "We made a reservation for Mother's Day. Got a corner table ( a little tight ) with a nice view. Mary was our server and very attentive. Our drink order was returned promptly and Mary explained the menu thoroughly. The busser replenished the bread quickly. My wife ordered the prime rib ( it was delicious ). My son and I each had New York Steaks. The steaks were cooked exactly as ordered. The vegetables were good. No room to try the deserts but they sounded good. Will certainly return."

  • "We went to the Vans for Mothers Day. The hostess handed us these crumbled stained flyers, that listed their Mothers Day Specials. They had about 8 entrees listed. Omelettes, chicken fried steak, a fish fillet with no indication of what type of fish, and prime rib. They did not have any appetizers, and you could not order off of the main menu. My husband suggested that we have a round of mimosas. I was then informed I could purchase a $105 bottle of Vuvee and the orange juices separate. Between the limited heavy menu, ridiculously priced cocktails, and the flies around the windows, we could not stay another moment. We got up and left. Might go back for Monday Night Football, the bar menu looks great!"

  • "My wife,daughter, and a long time neighbor and I enjoyed a very pleasant Easter dinner at The Vans Restaurant. our reservation was for 5 pm. We arrived 5 minutes early and we were promptly seated. The view from the upper level of The Van is excellent. Our waitress was both pleasant and knowledgeable. My wife and friend had the stuffed pork chops and my daughter and I had the ham dinner. The food was very good and we topped the meal off with the Meyer lemon pie. Overall we had a very enjoyable evening."

  • "Wow, this was a really different dining experience than what I accustomed to from "The Vans". They were NOT up to their usually quality, service and friendliness. Even when we checked in, I didn't get that "You're special" feeling from the host. I have been ordering the Van's special "Scallop dinner" for years and always look forward to this wonderful dish. This time the scallops were under-cooked and luke warm. Honestly, I could barely eat it. I didn't want to send it back because you know what they say about dinners that are sent back to the kitchen. I ate what I could and didn't complain. Still gave them a great tip because our waiter was trying his best, but honestly I don't think I will be back anytime soon. Hope this was a fluke."
