  • "Our family LOVES The Union Kitchen. Everyone can get exactly what they want .. from pizza to pasta and seafood to steak ... it's all delicious and even when we bring the whole crowd (we had 9 this time around), it all arrives together and at just the right temperature. Service and food .... EXCELLENT! Loved the Kokomo Zinfandel and the Tom Eddy Pinot Noir wines too!"

  • "This was my first time dining at this restaurant and the food was fabulous. I had the crab appetizer which contained fresh crab meat and avocado and it was delicious. For the entrée I ordered the Chilean sea bass and it was cooked to perfection. Our waiter wasn't very friendly and it took him a long time to return to get our drink order. I didn't see him smile once and his responses were short a curt. He gave me the bill, I put my credit card in the folder but I was still reading over the bill when he swooped in and took it. That was the fastest service he gave us the entire night. I would definitely go back because the food was very good."

  • "On a previous visit, we sat in the bar area & enjoyed several small plates. This Sunday we went for lunch for my Mother's Birthday. The waiter started out fine, then essentially disappeared. We had to track down other staff members( or walk inside to the hostess(2x) to place orders, refills, get bread, p/u check & to-go boxes. During the last trip inside a manager was present. He apologized, stating that the brunch crowd had been especially busy, perhaps the staff was wiped out from that. I am glad to know there was a great brunch crowd, further service should not suffer due to that. The food was good as albeit luke-warm on presentation. Yes, I would go back at least once more, as I feel this lack of service was a fluke not the norm."

  • "Good meal, good service. Small glitch in that we were still on our first course and the main course was served. Should have been better coordination between the waiters and the kitchen"

  • "I came upon this restaurant through Groupon. I went Tuesday evening for dinner, choosing patio seating. It was nice and cool, fans were out for our comfort. The waiter was helpful, checking on us, keeping us abreast of our meal status. The food was excellent, portions were good. I chose a seafood dish of shrimp, seasonal vegetables on angel hair pasta, while my friend chose the pork chop. They were both very tasty. The cost was $$. The main dining area was warmly lite, and those seated seem to enjoy it. One concern, a family seated to the right of us had kids they were not watching. The kids were running all over the place, another diner ask him to get control of his kids, "this is not McDonald's". I plan on going back and will recommend it"

  • "Great neighborhood restaurant. So glad they opened here. We dine here often, but this occasion we used a Groupon which was happily accepted and the waiter even made suggestions to maximize the value of our Groupon. Service was excellent! Specialty drinks were delicious and food was great. Steaks were cooked to perfection. It is now our go-to restaurant for special occasions."

  • "Wanting to try something different, I found this on Open Tables general list. . Avocado bites and potstickers were very yummy. The Shrimp Tiana with vegetable linguini, potato gnocchi and spinach were very well cooked and tasted great with nicely grilled shrimp. The tender filets were served on a "bed" of blue cheese polenta which was very well cooked with a nice crispy outside of breading. For desert, couldn't resist the creme brulee duo (white and chocolate) - both very creamy and light. The bread pudding in a rum sauce was also quite good - big chunks of bread soaked in a cream sauce. The only 2 complaints - noise level is very loud and most of the food was lukewarm in temperature. All in all, a nice night and memorable meal!"

  • "Great place close to home for a little extra special dinner to celebrate 2 birthdays. One of the birthdays had a certificate for a free entrée for her birthday ... nice touch! The other didn't but was treated extra special as well. Food and wine are always great. This is a place where the staff begins to recognize you when you come back again and again .. like we do! Thanks for making us always feel special."

  • "I am a repeat diner at Union Kitchen. Each time we introduce it to people that haven't eaten here, they are very impressed. Fabulous food! My most repeated entree is the veal chop, although everything we have tried has been very good. One of these days I will try the burger. I understand it is one of the best in Houston. Overall rating of 5 is based on the food and service that is typically excellent. The service this visit was below the restaurant's standard. Not bad, just not as great as I have come to expect; my reason for 3 stars this time. We had to ask about specials of the day, for instance. The waiter raved about the special guacamole appetizer. We had finished our appetizers. At that point, don't even bring it up!"

  • "The 1st visit was for brunch, and while it was good, it was not something outstandingly memorable. The atmosphere and wait staff, however, compensated for good, but not outstanding food. My 2nd visit was even better. This time we had a birthday dinner. The waiter was extremely accommodating to our requests and the food was wonderful. They say 3 is a charm because this by far was my favorite visit. We ordered and shared Prosciutto and Asparagus Appetizer and a Chopped Salad. I ordered the Crabmeat Stuffed Shrimp entree. The collard greens were the bomb and so were the stuffed shrimp with the habanero sauce. Maybe brunch needs some work, but night-time delivers! Will definitely be visiting again."

  • "It was a busy Sat night, but we were seated right away with a reservation. Waitress was a bit overcommitted early on due to a neighboring party of ~20, but was attentive after we got our orders going. Our wine selection based on her recommendation was good, though in general the list was a little pricey. The food was fresh and well prepared, and while not exceptional, was satisfying. Overall an enjoyable evening."

  • "Service here is over the top. So friendly and they seem so glad to see their customers. It was pretty noisy on a Friday night. Had not noticed this before. We were in a booth by the front door which may have been the reason."

  • "When this location opened my husband and I ate there with initially good comments on the food. After several visits, I would call the food marginal. The waitstaff on this last occasion, brought my salad with dressing even though I requested it on the side. He came by twice and said it would be ready in 2 minutes and I received it 20 minutes later, after everyone had eaten. A friend asked for more biscuits and he brought bread insisting that is what we asked for. He was wrong. The four of us all heard "biscuits". The first time was a charm, but the fourth time was a strike-out"!"

  • "Enjoyed another fine meal with wine (Tom Eddy Pinot Noir) last night and it was great. Two of us had the veal chop which was perfectly prepared and my father in law who often dines there at lunch asked if he might get something from the lunch menu. That special request was handled beautifully and we all enjoyed a nice dinner. So happy to see this neighborhood gem doing so well! Thanks to the great service staff for always making it so special."

  • "Our family of four went to the Union Kitchen for my oldest daughter's 18th birthday. We used a Groupon, but were treated as if we were paying full price by our waiter, Chris. I will say that it took a bit longer for the services (i.e. appetizers, entree, etc.) to appear, but our waiter was very attentive, and the steaks (filet mignon and ribeye), and the Chilean Sea Bass were wonderful. When we first walked in, we felt very underdressed, but we sat on the patio, and didn't feel as out of place."

  • "I eat here often and love to expose this gem to others who have not yet been there. The service is outstanding, the food is beyond definition and the menu offers something for everyone. The only reason I hate to say good things about Union Kitchen-Memorial is that I don't want it to get so crowded as to keep me from eating there. Try it - you'll love it!!!!!"

  • "My dinner (trout) was good but more importantly my wife's dinner (scallops) was not cooked properly. Historically speaking the food here has been very good and well prepared. My best guess is the kitchen got overwhelmed so the food prep suffered a little."

  • "I went here with my spouse with really no expectations. Valentine's Day dinner out can be hit or miss. There are so many factors that can throw off a restaurant, but The Union Kitchen was on top of everything from service to food. Arrived at 7:30 for our reservation and were seated immediately. Our server was incredibly attentive and friendly. We were served our beverages quickly. The garlic butter they serve with their complimentary bread is divine! It wasn't long before our food came out. Everything from the lobster bisque, the steak, the lamb and the dessert was just incredibly good. The manager even made a point to go to each table to check on diners. We would be happy to come again for special occasions in the future."

  • "Nice spot in a location a little off the beltway. Our server was awesome... forgot his name, but he had been with the restaurant from when they opened after he tried their union burger. The burger was a good choice, which my buddy had. I went for the tuna sandwich and even though I emphasized that I really didn't want it if dry, it was. I'll for sure go back but will order something different."

  • "While we dine at this neighborhood spot frequently, we have never had a bad experience until now when the food was barely warm and disappointing. It seems that we are not the only ones with a similar experience, as two different of our neighbors have said the same. Hope the situation will improve."

This was my friend's birthday celebration and she was treated special with a wonderful dessert ! My friends were quite impressed!"

  • "This was our third visit to UK in the past 5 weeks. We loved the Bellaire location on our first visit we took 2 couples back with us a week or so later. Food was average on the second visit. We thought we'd give the Memorial location a chance this past Friday. We ordered the specials which were Won Ton shrimp starter and their swordfish. We split it. Service wasn't bad but nothing special and the swordfish was very bland. Starter was okay but not enough to overcome the whole experience and we have scratched UK off our dining list."

  • "Food, service, and ambiance were excellent. Very laid back and energetic atmosphere. Wine list is well put together and fairly priced. The menu is well balanced with lots of excellent choices. The beet salad was great and the fondu stuffed veal chop was amazing. I will most certainly be back."

  • "This was our second visit to this restaurant which is a nice neighborhood place. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was very average. We ordered two appetizers: The pork belly which were large pieces but a little dry. The vuelve la vida which was full of very nice shellfish but blanketed in a very heavy red sauce that took away from the flavors of the seafood. Main: porka bucco which was a very hearty portion nice sauce but without much seasoning. Rainbow trout: the fist was fresh but just a small strip that was cooked nicely. The crab meat topping was barely there but seemed tasty. Huge plate of couscous under it which was bland not spicy which was strange since it was suppose to be "Cajun". Dessert: The bread pudding was good."

  • "Four of us enjoyed a great dinner at The Union Kitchen last Saturday night. The filets were large and cooked just right. Have tried 3 of their desserts and found the Italian creme cake to be the best so far. Our server was attentive and available even though he was helping in another area of the restaurant as well. We dined around 6:30 and by the time we left, after 8:30, the place was full. Nice to have such a good restaurant so close to home!"

  • "My husband and I dined at Union Kitchen on Memorial Dr. on 2/11/14. The /vibe of the place was vibrant and warm, without seeming to try to hard to be hip. The bar was lively when we arrived at 7 pm, but had cleared out some by 9 pm when we left. Our waiter was attentive and informative. The food was excellent, and the prices extremely reasonable for the quality and freshness. The wine list was impressive. My husband had the pork chop (falling off the bone), our guests had steak and the special preparation of the Sea Bass, as did I (fantastic, slightly Asian inspired drizzel, served over a bed of endame & corn -- YUM!). Overall very nice "snappy-casual" place to dine, not stuffy or fuddy duddy, but not to cool for old foodies like us."
