Diner Reviews
  • "We had dinner here and we did not feel the dinner was at all worth the cost.... We spent $ 80.00 on a meal that I would much rather have spent anywhere else but here... We will never go back again."

  • "The bar is warm and inviting with the bartender amenable to make any type of drink and explain Happy Hour specials. The menu is very eclectic. The meatloaf and the 1/2 pound hamburgers are their classic dishes. I had the meatloaf, but always order it with extra gravy on the side -- never enough. The Chilean bass was cooked perfectly with a vegetable side -- edamame beans and asparagus mix as well as the trout on couscous. Servers were attentive. The meals are pricey, but delicious."

  • "Nice to have a another restaurant in Kingwood that is not a major chain. Monday nights are great for good food with friends and being able to have a conversation without screaming."

  • "I never write reviews but the food was bad. I had the crab cakes and gumbo. The crab cakes tasted like they were straight from the freezer. They were really bad but the gumbo was worst. My food experience was terrible."

  • "The water will kill you. The waitress brought the water to the table with a big black straw from McDonalds.. it did not help. It was bad a few weeks ago and I mentioned it to the manager then and it is still bad. We asked them to remove it from the table. On our first visit the waitress forgot to bring our salads. On this visit I determined by the the way the waitress was talking and acting that this restaurant must be the Training Camp for the 2 other restaurants in the chain. Staff was very busy but lacked the knowledge and experience. Food itself was mediocre. Pity the ambience is 4 star. I would like to recommend the location to "foodies" but just cannot..probably never go back to the Kingwood location. Maybe the others are better?"

  • "First off, we very much need this eatery to be consistently good. We live very near, love the ambience and location and love to take guests. When first open the food was truly what we were hoping for. We have noted a decline which is disappointing. The food falls short. It seems bland and just so so. The service is always great..no disappointment there. And I did have a very tasty breakfast there recently."

  • "We went on the Houston Food Bank set dinner offer. The food was good but not amazing. Service was o.k. but not outstanding. Overall I will go again but it is not on the must eat here list."
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "We eat there regularly so we are hoping that the very poor service and an entree swimming in grease was a fluke as we do love the place. We will go back and make sure it was just a fluke! Hmmmm maybe today for lunch."

  • "Just love the a Union Kitchen in Kingwood. Never fail in their friendly and attentive wait-staff. Food is good ."

  • "I have had the rib eye every time I go. I now order it medium rare. That seems to be the perfect way to get it. No sauce needed. Just a fork and a knife. I have also had a different waiter/waitress each time. Each one has made sure that my experience is personal. Never rushes me to turn the table. I just wish the sold Guinness extra stout like the first week I went there."

  • "Finally took the opportunity to try this restaurant on a busy Saturday night. First service was slow, waiter was overly friendly when he would stop by the table which was infrequent. Sat for a long time before any drink orders were taken. Ate with 3 others and everyone felt food was ok but over salted. Overall it was a slightly below average experience."

  • "My wife and I had the stuffed avocados, ribeye and filet minion. I also got the mac and cheese but was not impressed (I'm very picky about my mac)."

  • "Appetizer was cold (calamari). Ordered shrimp risotto - risotto was overcooked."

  • " A little more fancy then the name or outside look dictates, but very good food, nice atmosphere. Also on Thurs. night, music is very nice. Will definitely be going back."

  • "37 anniversary dinner. We love this local gem in kingwood. Great food and very relaxing. We just ate there last week and wanted to go again."

  • "I consulted Open Table for a restaurant in Kingwood, TX since I had no dining experience in that community. I selected Union Kitchen due to the patrons' reviews. I was surprised, at first, that it is in a strip center next to Sears. Any misgivings I may have had by that location were dismissed upon my entry to the business. The greeting staff were the best in Houston. The bar tenders were quick, friendly and professional. The food presentation was timely and attractive and the taste was succulent. It was accompanied by excellent service. In the end, the surprise was that such a fulfilling experience was delivered without fan fare extraordinary cost."

  • "Our first visit, and we will return. The sea bass was nicely prepared, and the accompanying edamame succotash was quite good. Calamari was a nice change from the usual, with its pepperoncini and feta dressing. Nice, affordable wine list. Friendly, efficient service. So happy that a nice restaurant has moved into the lovely space formery occupied by Sorrento. The ambience is nicer than most Kingwood restaurants. Overall, a very pleasant and enjoyable Friday evening dinner."

  • "We had a group of 4 adults and 4 kids, probably not a restaurant generally good for kids so much. Our party was seated too near the front door and a kiosk they use for ordering so it felt crowded but understand their positioning. Waiter appeared overbooked on tables and while he tried not to rush he was obviously distracted, food was very good, haven't had a bad meal here yet. Onion rings too thickly breaded. Also, should not give kids under 8 large slippery glasses! :)"

  • "The biggest negative to living in Kingwood is the lack of 5 star restaurants with equally professional staff and notable experienced Chefs....Union Kitchen is raising the bar....we were very pleased. I ordered the Special which was a very tasty Salmon and my wife ordered the Chicken...both presentations were 5 star and excellent. Our waitress Tiffney (sp?) was very professional and we were able to discuss the restaurant when we asked the mgt. Valeri (sp?) to sit at the table and give us some history on Union Kitchen and their service. Thank you Union Kitchen we are glad you came to Kingwood and we will do our best to support you....look forward to introducing Union Kitchen to our friends next time."

  • " Our last two or three visits have been very disappointing. We have noticed a down grade in the food quality. The service is inconsistent. The tables are too small to accommodate a party of four, and they are crowded together. We have been seated in the "library" room (on the left) the last several times, and that room is particularly noisy and cramped. There has been a noticeable downgrade in the food quality, as well, in my/our opinion- to the point that I doubt we will return there again. Our dinners were lukewarm when served to us on Friday night. There were two very loud (one screamed intermittently) young children at the table next to us which was very disturbing."

  • "The Sea Bass is exceptional. The chef modified the regular menu presentation with a delicious blend of asparagus and parmigiana risotto. It's not cheap, but a nice evening out!"

  • "My husband and I dined in the Union Kitchen/Kingwood Tx on July 12th 2014, as it was also our 21st Anniversary dinner. Our dining experience was exceptional from the moment we walked in the door & asked for a "little table out of the way" our hostess had the mostess! Our wait person [Brandon] was Impeccable, friendly, mannerly & so efficient. My wine, delicious, our appetizers superb, our entree's "An Oscar to The Chef'! This, undoubtably will be our "Go To" restaurant from now on. Also, we entertain many out of town friends & relatives so anxious to show off "THE NEW GUY IN TOWN"!"

  • "We were excited to try a new restaurant in our area. We were impressed with the ambiance and live music. The avacado appetizer was good. Our waitress gave us great service. Many of the entrees didn't come with sides, so you'd have to order a la carte. My chicken Parmesan was metiocre. Felt like I could get better tasting at a lower price at the Italian restaurant. My husband's trout was fine, but the Cajun couscous tasted like they dropped the salt shaker in it. He never complains about food, but it was inedible. He asked for rice instead, but they had to make it, so it took a few minutes. it came out with water in it. The manager took the price off for that, but don't think we'll be dining there again. Too pricey for the quality."

  • "One of my favorites in Kingwood. Attentive and friendly service, as always. Food is great."

  • "Our first visit here was great, no problems. This recent visit here we were left wondering what happened to the cook. My appetizer was NOT what I expected, the "vuelva la vida" is a common flavorful seafood cocktail which was served very bland with regular cocktail sauce and served with tortilla chips rather than crackers. I sent it back to the kitchen. My wife enjoyed her meal there last time so much she re-ordered it much to her disappointment she found her meal swimming in its own sauce which was not there the previous visit. My entree was good but not great. The manager came over and apologized for the appetizer which was appreciated, but we still left unhappy and disappointed."

  • "It was a awesome place to eat. Server Justin was great man to deal with. Our steaks melted in our mouths. The desserts were good to take home. The only problems were the first time I went they served Guinesses extra stout which no place does and made me fell in love with it. But the second time they were out."

  • "This our third dinner at the Union Kitchen (Kingwood). On our first two visits, one of which was immediately after the Kingwood location opened, we thought the food was excellent. This visit, the food was a bit off the pace. My spouse's "Porkabucco" was not "fall off the bone" tender as it was in our prior visits. Sauces on the rest of our party's dishes were all on the heavy side - kitchen may have been trying to work off a butter surplus!! Service was great. We'll be back. Hopefully, just an off night in the kitchen."

  • "So glad a Union Kitchen is here in Kingwood. Great dining without having to pay fine dining price. A good variety on the menu."

  • "Love it. It has the feel and the cuisine of an upscale restaurant. We love everything about it. The appetizers, entrees, and deserts are all first class!"

  • "I ordered a steak and although it was cooked to the right temperature, I thought it could have used more flavor. A little more seasoning, perhaps? My husband ordered the chicken pesto on orzo, which did have flavor, but the chicken was overcooked and dry. The last time we came here we ordered pizza and I think we liked that better. We didn't have dessert, but the dessert tray looked very tasty!"

  • "Went here for my wife's birthday. Food was generally quite nice but decidedly under seasoned. My veal chop was generally well cooked to medium rare but not seasoned and no crust at all but still tasty. Carbonara is a favorite and very well done but still curiously not seasoned at all. Service was excellent and while we had to wait way too long for appetizer and main rounds we still enjoyed."

  • "Flash fried items tasted like deep fried. Supposed to have 4 lamb chops medium rare got 3 and quarter overcooked. Dish was warm but not hot as I think it should have been. Sides were average but overpriced. Desserts were excellent. Crab avocado appetizer was bland and not what I would have expected. Petite filet was very good. Service was excellent. Union Kitchen burgers were the top item. The atmosphere was very nice and quiet. Great place for large groups in the side dining room. Menu has great choices, only drawback is how is it going to served."

  • "Second time to Union Kitchen, first time for dinner. We both had seafood which was fresh and prepared well. The side dishes complimented and did not overwhelm the main course. Very good wine list with reasonable prices. The Tiramisu was tasty but a little different (this is Teas you know)."

  • "Waited long intervals for food - the waiter provided fequesnt updates regrding kitchen delays. My husband;s chicken serving was too small which the manager was proactive in addressing. She indicated that the remainder of the chicken would be coming. However it doid not appear until after my husband's plate had been removed - the waiter gave no indication that the rest of the meal was on the way. We took the chicken home in a take-away box. Seemed to be kitchen problems on Father's Day - and lack of communication between cooks, waiter, and manager. Otherwise the food was OK."

  • "One of our favorite restaurants. On Father's Day however I'm not sure they were ready for that many people. Food took a long time. Food came out cold. Had to send things back to Warm. No manager apology"

  • "The best food I've had in a while. The Union Burger was huge and it tasted really good. Everything was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be going back."

  • "The restaurant was good but really wasn't great but I think there are better restaurants in Kingwoods Town Center. The wait staff was very friendly. I had the veal chop which was too tender and my wife had the scallops which she enjoyed. We had the crab stuffed avocado and it was OK but the breading was too thick."
