I made the reservation on open table, I received a call from Tropical saying that I had requested patio dining and they were able to accommodate. The food and ambiance are wonderful, but I have to also speak for the great service. My husband and I ate there for the first time with our newborn (early dinner). During dinner she woke up in the middle of the meal, and it resulted in us having to take shifts to eat. Our waiter (I believe his name was Mark) was so kind - he kept taking back our plates and warming them for us. This restaurant is truly a gem all around! Shared onion rings and spring rolls (very good spring rolls). Fried chicken, fish tacos, and filet for dnner, all fine and plentiful. Our server, Tammy, was the best--fun, funny, warm, and knowledgeable...knew just how and when to interact with us. She left all her tables in our section smiling and happy. She's a star! Close to where we were staying, great ambience, interesting menu, good service, moderate pricing.
Only negative for us was our food choices (salads) were a bit too salty for our tastes. Bar choices were nice and we enjoyed our cocktails. Where most of the nicer establishments in the area are either traditional steak houses or serve comfort food (albeit well-prepared), Tropicale offers unique, and quite delicious menu items. Check out the weekly specials. They even offer one-of-a kind cocktails. Service is attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere is perfect for an evening out: lively without being overly noisy. It's not cheap, but these elements make it worth the price.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMid Century Modern FunSleek Fifties tropical-themed restaurant, a real find. Friendly and attentive staff do their best to make sure you enjoy yourself. Too hot this past Sunday to brunch on the outdoor patio, but inside the cool retro vibe was perfect for a fun time with a friend. I had the Cobb salad, which is one of the best in the Desert. My companion had the Kobe beef sliders, which he said were absolutely delicious. Plentiful drinks are also a feature, and at brunch they have a very reasonable bottomless Bloody Mary or bottomless champagne option in addition to tons of other drinks.
For a fun dining experience, or just hanging out at either of the two bars (one inside, one outside) with friends, you can't go wrong with Tropicale.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were guided to a largeWe were guided to a large relaxing booth upon arrival. Decore was mod-tropical. Service- very attentive. The menu offered something for everyone with interesting selections, our brunch selections were delicious. If you like a Bloody Mary, don't miss the Tropicale's. I got the impression that the bar is a popular night spot and that the patio is very popular as well. We dined at Tropicale on a Sunday night and the place was packed. A great vibe in the room. The food was amazing. I had the crab cake appetizer and bar none it was the best I've had. The tuna tartare that my daughter had was yummy and the onion ring tower my husband ordered was delicious. The batter was tasty and not at all greasy. The main dishes did not disappoint. The food portions are generous so bring your appetite. Wish I had known it was Sushi Sunday, I would have brought my Sushi appetite as there is no doubt amazing from what I observed. The venue is a mix of retro mid century meets Casablanca via Club Tropicana. You could expect to see Humphry Bogart in a white tux playing piano and Lucile Ball having coctails with 50's era Elizabeth Taylor listens to Cyndi Lauper sing. All in an environment that is a glamorous cocktail society vibe with a casual Miami neon balmy tropical twist. It's utterly cool, chic and the most breathtakingly ambient garden bar I've ever seen. It is one of their favorite places. I walked in and there was a piano player and a bass player - making great music ! 90% of the people were having martinis, too! We started with 3 wonderful appetizers - roasted beets (YUM!!!!), spring rolls, and a tuna nori - all so wonderful you think it can get any better but it does with the main course. It had been recommended to me by a friend who has been going there for years. She said it was one of her faves, so I picked it for our nice dinner night. It did NOT disappoint! The staff I spoke with were very accommodating and friendly, and put us in a really nice spot on the patio. Our waiter was very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was excellent. I had the grilled trout, which was very good and cooked just right. We also got the pupu platter to start, which we all loved! The drinks were excellent as well. We got a pitcher of the basil lemongrass mojotos... delish! We all left extremely happy with our experience.
