A word from The Trident
The Trident, formerly 'Horizons", is now open!!
We recently completed our remodel and upstairs Skydeck addition showcasing the most amazing views!

In January 1981, this beautiful space was revived into Horizons restaurant. Inside is an incredible recipe of art and architecture, complemented with a resemblance of an old yacht. The ceiling mural was original to the Trident and painted by Dave Richards, creator of Janis Joplin’s infamous 1965 Porsche Cabriolet. On the outside deck, discover one of the most stunning restaurant waterfront views on the west coast, which boasts the skyline of San Francisco, Angel Island and Alcatraz. Join us for brunch, lunch or dinner

  • "We had a great time at our brunch yesterday, Israel was wonderful server!"

  • "My husband and dear friends spent the afternoon on a Segway tour in Golden Gate Park. As a treat, we had a glass of wine on the deck of the Cavallo before heading into Sausalito for dinner. Our friends had eaten at the Trident before, and the view is worth a gazillion dollars. The food was amazing, and the wine selection was perfect. There isn't a better view to go with the dinner."

  • "This is one of our favorite spots. We love the views. The fish and chips is the best! We often take out-of-town guests here for lunch with a view. It's also fun to take the ferry from San Francisco, walk a short distance, and enjoy a scenic lunch on the bay."

  • "Three of us had a delicious meal at the Trident on a Thursday night. I had the scallops and they were delicious. The presentation was excellent--all 3 entrees when served looked like works of art. We did have to ask for bread when we saw it going to other tables. I think that happened last time I ate there as well. And the waiter seemed a bit impatient wth us for not choosing quickly. But overall a very pleasant dinner with a gorgeous view."

  • "Stopped in for lunch on a half day visit to Sausalito. Loved the history of the restaurant. The view of the bay was fantastic. The ambience and service were great. The food was ok. It was good for lunch. I suggest sticking to the local seafood dishes. They were excellent."

  • "Beautiful interior with gorgeous original murals on ceiling and the best view in the Bay Area!"

  • "I ve been to the Trident many times and always love the experience. I ordered the crab melt which was a mistake. It was open face mostly bread with little crab and cheese. It tasted okay but I would never order it again. A friend had a Ceaser salad with grilled salmon, she liked hers. I will return though because it has such an iconic history and panoramic views. Better food would put it at the top of the charts."

  • "We ate outside as the weather was perfect. We ate great food, they were really busy at brunch time 12:30, but we had reservations and I couldn't have been more pleased with the service, view, food and overall ambiance. This is our 2nd time going and we will be coming back again and again! Thank you!"

  • "If you are looking for a nice non buffet style brunch with views of SF Bay and Angel Island this is a great choice. They have a special brunch menu as part of there regular menu. Liked that it wasn't a buffet. Food options were unique such as crab cake Benedict, smoked salmon hash, smoked salmon omelette, and eggs Benedict. The brunch menu was pretty small though. I had the smoked salmon omelette with sun dried tomatoes, capers and hollandaise sauce. Really good. Saw a lot of brunches enjoying bloody Mary's as we'll.service was just so so though. Not sure if our server was new but it seemed that way. We had to remind her to bring our coffee and was a tad clumsy. Would go back for sure."

  • "I frequent trident at least 1-3 a month and my only complaint is service is slow And you have push the hostess to get the south end table if they're available. I hate this the most about this place"

  • "Had dinner here for my wife's birthday. Evening was nice so we sat outside. Dinner was good the only thing that was ok was my wife's Caesar salad- it was kind of bland. The birthday surprise dessert was a good touch. We will come back and try different dishes."

  • "Come for the View 1st, the food 2nd, and don't expect much from the wait staff. He forgot our drink order & brought soup instead of the garlic bread we ordered! Dessert was wonderful!"

  • "Absolutely terrible service. We waited for 5 minutes to be seated, even though we had a reservation... not because there was no table available, but because no one came to the front desk; we finally had to flag someone down. Then when we did get them to seat us, it was close to 30 minutes before anyone came to take our order... and again, that was because we flagged the manager down and complained. What's the point?"

  • "We made reservations at 5:30 so we could have daylight hours for the view. We had a very private booth with a view of Richardson Bay, the sealion sculpture and San Francisco in the distance. We stayed until the lights began to shine on the Bay Bridge. My watermelon and avocado salad was excellent and the salmon entree was delicious. We will be back!"

  • "WE had an early dinner at 5:30 so the restaurant was almost empty. They offered us inside or outside dining and we were afraid the outside would be too cool, so we ate inside. Turns out outside was adequately heated and shielded from the wins so we would have been fine. The Chicken Walnut Blue Cheese salad was one of the best salads I've ever eaten! YUM!! Definitely recommend!"

  • "Outstanding S.F. Bay views from long-time casual favorite on Sausalito waterfront. Excellent crab and shrimp Louis salads highlight varied menu. Heated outdoor deck seating great for evenings. One hour validated valet parking."

  • "This was an excellent choice for a special occasion dinner, romantic environment, fabulous view of the city lights, and very good food, especially recommended - seafood! It is also great to dine outdoors on the terrace on sunny, warm days.."

  • "Outstanding views of Sausolito harbor, the Bay and San Francisco from this sunny large deck. The fish and chips were good but the fish was blandly average. The Crab Louis was delicious with lots of succulent crab. The Shrimp Cocktail was very good. Service was good. The inside is a funky homage to the 70s/80s but is warm and rustic with breat views from huge windows."

  • "It was very expensive for what was served. The view was awesome! Pretty restaurant! The clam chowder was warm not hot and not very good. I sent it back and asked for a side salad instead. I was still charged for both soup and salad. Server brought a nice birthday surprise that looked good but didn't taste so good. Valet service was nice!"

  • "I made reservations for friends who would be visiting from Arizona, only to find that the Trident was one of their favorite hangouts "back in the day." Now living far from the Pacific they crave fresh seafood, and we had a great time sampling oysters, Dungeness crab, sole, mussels, prawns, etc. etc. Fun and knowledgeable server and live music that was not too intrusive on our conversation."

  • "Pros: hostess was very nice, sitting on the outside and practically on the ocean was outstanding, food was good Cons: odd that I got a call to confirm my reservations a few hours before with a request to call back (fortunately I was home but I was just headed out; this restaurant is not in my hometown; am curious what might have happened if I hadn't answered); I asked to have the leftover bread put in a box to take home but never saw it again (the staff member who took the bread away just stared at me when I asked as if he thought I were insane or something); tho the server was nice & knowledgeable we asked for a pitcher of water but only got individual glasses & then the server never ever returned to refresh our drinks, er, empty glasses"

  • "This is the restaurant where I went on the first date with my now husband 17 years ago. We try and return there every Valentine's Day and although the name has changed, the food and the view are still great!"

  • "Raising twin toddlers we seldom get out. But, Trident made date night count. The view was amazing. The food was equally great. The window seating made the experience feel like a mini-vacation to the Mediterranean. We didn't want to leave. So thank you for not kicking us out, though we lingered."

  • "The Trident is literally on the water, with an excellent ocean View, There is a beautiful balcony but It was raining a lot and then I had lunch inside. That was a pity! Food was really good! Price is very fair! Good people working there! A little bit noisy! But there was a big group near me, so maybe in a different day, It wouldn't be!"

  • "Had lunch with a friend on Wed. It was a very nice dining experience. Our server was great. Took extra steps until we were ready to order. No rush at all. My meal was cooked the just the way I wanted it. Nice atmosphere!"

  • "I can always rely on the Trident to deliver great food at a decent price. I had the fish tacos...again, and they were great...again. It was super busy - a very sunny day that got everyone in san francisco and sausalito out and about. I was lucky to score a late afternoon table using OpenTable. We arrived, and were seated immediately. The calamari was great, as were the tacos. Eating at the Trident always puts me in a good mood, due in part to the fact that the restaurant is right on the water, but it's always energetic, and the food is great. Usually there's a person singing and playing piano, which is a nice background, but they weren't playing that day. I will keep going back as long as the quality food and service remain."

  • "The restaurant was a throwback to the 70's ...old decor and furnishings, bland food, tired service. The only good thing was the view. Save your money and go to one of the better restaurants in town like scoma's or the spinnaker."

  • "The view is Fantastic! Just about every table at the Trident has a great view. Staff was friendly. Food was pretty good - we had beet salad, Salmon Ceasar (the chunk of salmon was very large and delicious) and shared the Cioppino. Cioppino could have had a bit more flavor but was generously full of seafood. Service was slow to come over to table, to take order and to get food. Bread was never refilled and I had to ask for more water rather than just having glass filled. Everyone nice but a bit more attention to anticipating guest's needs could make it a great place."

  • "Our first night back in sausalito we decided to try the Trident for the first time since they remodeled. They had a quartet playing music in the lounge which we could hear at our table. Bonus! The man seating us was very nice and welcoming.Service from there though was disappointing. It took far too long for a waiter to even show up. While she was nice, it just wasn't great service. As for the food, my sole was so good; hot, cooked very well, on top of wonderful spinach also cooked perfectly. Too much garlic and salt for me, but still it was enjoyable....husband ordered combo Louie. He enjoyed it - not as good as other places here. Presentation seemed old & lots of shells on shrimp and crab. Not acceptable. We will return, view is amazing!"

  • "We discovered Trident on December 31, 2013. We found ourselves in Sausalito and just chanced on it. Magnificant! The indoor restaurant is nice but we chose to eat on the wooden deck. There are tables as well as seating at a rail overlooking the bay to San Francisco. We sat there for about three hours, enjoying the view and the delicious food. In fact, we cancelled and rescheduled our reservations at a very well-known and much more expensive restaurant. We were also in San Francisco this year at the same time of year and we couldn't resist repeating the experience. I think it will become a tradition on our annual trip from Oklahoma."

  • "great food, scenery, ambience. salmon was very good. only thing that was a lil off was our waiter. after we ordered, he seemed judgemental that i finished my food. or that we didnt order a whole lot. (table next to us only ordered drinks) . isnt it a compliment if i ate it all? He just stared at the plate and at us for a few awkward seconds. cant tell if he was trying to make a joke or what. said where did the fish go? huh? service was a tiny bit slow. but overall a good experience. just a weird waiter"

  • "Recently heard that The Horizon in Sausalito had reopened as The Trident, the original 1970s-era landmark on the Sausalito waterfront. And so it has... still on its pier with breathtaking 180-degree views across The Bay from Mill Valley to San Francisco. The interior is still a masterpiece of Zen carpentry, the ceiling mural restored and vibrant. And surprisingly, the service was superb and the seafood-based cuisine was excellent. Perfectly prepared, very generous portions. Even with valet parking, our lavish (but liquorless) brunch for three was around $115 including a generous (and well earned) tip. Do plan to return to The Trident and experience the best of the "golden" 1970s era. You will not be disappointed."
