Diner Reviews
  • "Out of the last five birthdays, I think we've celebrate here four of them. The food is always spot on, the staff, friendly and accommodating. The BYOB helps keep the prices in line and the never charge a corkage fee. We were wondering if the quality would hold up after the Chef bought the place from the original owners. It was every bit as delicious, fun and wonderful! It's not the most beautiful restaurant inside, but I always liken it to eating in the kitchen of your most talented friends :-)"

  • "Difficult to find, but delightful to go to. The food is good, but the menu is not varied, so check before you go, if you have dietary needs."

  • "What a pleasure to dine in a restaurant where every morsel is superb! Extremely attentive, polite, courteous service. Excellent food from beginning to end! Desserts awesome! Definitely a must on everyone's "bucket list"!!!!"

  • "The setting is very low key--wooden tables without tablecloths, tiny area (total 26 patrons-I counted chairs) -feels like a country kitchen. This is not said in a negative way--it has a charming feeling. More to the point, the food is excellent, AND you bring your own wine with no corkage fee. Four of us had prix fixe dinners. There is a wide selection for this. We started with very good pastas, and I had a main dish similar to short ribs. Portions were big enough to take some home, and of excellent quality. Desserts were all good. The chef recently bought the restaurant, and he's trying to keep everything to a high standard. On Wednesday evening, there were empty tables, and there shouldn't be. It's worth a trip."

  • "Never had a bad meal at this little gem. Food is always delicious and adventurous. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant. BYOB makes it affordable gourmet dining."

  • "Unfortunately for us the cramped conditions in this tiny restaurant takes away from the experience. The baked clams were good but I was surprised there was no lemon served with them - they needed a bit of acid to round out the taste. The entrees were very good. This was only our first time but as a group of wine aficionados (eight of them) were seated nearby it got VERY loud. On a good note you can bring your own wine and there is no corking fee - I did not see a bar so you need to bring your own."

  • "This little gem is a perfect place to dine with your special someone or a best friend! The food is awesome & the service is spectacular! My husband & I wish we could go there once a week!! Please, please don't change a thing!"

  • "Last time we visited we had one of the best restaurant desserts I've ever eaten; the goat cheese panna cotta with mascerated oranges - please bring this back! To our delight, our favorite entree from our first visit was still on the ever-changing menu; the black pasta with calamari in a spicy tomato sauce. The cream of mushroom soup was rich and just what I needed on that rainy evening. The tagliatelle with suckling pig very much. However, the vanilla bean panna cotta with blackberries (which we settled on after understanding the one made of goat cheese was no longer available) was a disappointment at best. It was neither soft nor smooth but a slimy jello mold with a strange sauce. The flourless almond cake with chocolate chips was good."

  • "Great place, but very small. Reservations a must. Love the BYOB and cash only. Tables are very close and conversation levels are high, everyone trying to be heard. Food is delicious - worth the visit."

  • "It is one of my favorite restaurants. Food always innovative, fresh and delectable. Love the atmosphere. Like a kitchen (it is a kitchen, really) and the staff is truly accommodating, offering to prepare an entrée to my satisfaction without having to request a change. BYOB policy with no corking fee gives it great value. We always consider that when tipping. Don't mind the location in a simple tucked away strip. It adds to the bohemian quality and decadence of the experience. Spoke with the chef who seemed humble and a master of his art. Am looking forward to going back to celebrate another birthday next month. If you appreciate excellent food from fish to pasta to meat with a flair for the not mundane, don't miss this gem!"

  • "I can't say enough good things about The Trattoria! As an Italian I dislike going out for Italian food because it never lives up to grandma's home cooking. This is the only place I will go to get an authentic taste of Italian cuisine that leaves me satisfied every time."
    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "Gotta love a byob! Price fixe is so worth the value you get for the food. I'd stick with the Italian. I've had better fish elsewhere. Meatballs, lasagna and cheesecake were excellent."

  • "Absolutely amazing! we would go back in a heartbeat."

  • "A wonderful food experience. Wanted to taste everything on the menu. Have been here before and will definitely be back. The waitresses were so pleasant and helpful. Hats off to the chef!"

  • "We love the small size and coziness of this place...Arctic Char was wonderful with crispy skin, pasta with cauliflower and golden raisins was a hit and the eggplant parm was light airy and delicious fresh tomatoes and sauce. The flourless choc cake with gelato was a little dry but the vanilla panicotta with fresh berries and maple cheesecake were wonderful! The service is well paced with appropriate waiting time. I love the fact that you can sometimes see and hear the chefs bustling about to prepare these made to order meals. And the menu changes every week so you never know what surprises you're in for!!"

  • "I have been to The Trattoria many times as it is always great. A very small place but the food is very good and has something for everyone. The price fixed is a great way to go for only $35."

  • "Been traveling here for years, new owner chef Steve is doing a sensational job sending innovative, great tasting dishes out of the kitchen. BYO is a great plus for wine collectors and the trade off of not using a credit card is fine with me. Staff is friendly and always tries to please. Now that the word is out on this special place reservations will be that much harder to get."

  • "Well - after we found it - we were warmly greeted and had the luck of sitting near a small window so we were easily able to stash our beer and wine. It's a tight space of a place and could use some updating visually. The menu had several choices and as we watched the various dishes come from the kitchen - it made it difficult to choose - very creative - and had delicious meatballs with polenta, squash, apple and fig ravioli - lasagna - desserts were awesome as well. We will definitely be back."

  • "The food was excellent you definitely have to have the lasagne."

  • "Took my son for the first time and he said it was his best meal ever, a little hurtful to a mother but I couldn't agree more."

  • "We love the small, cozy feeling of this place...even better now that they added a small space heater in the winter. It has a nice intimate setting. The homemade gnocchi was so light and combined with small pieces of braised lamb in a smooth, light tomato based sauce...it was the perfect comfort meal for a cold night! Appetizer of mussels in a sambuca/tarragon cream was amazing!! The layout of the whole meal was well timed...despite not having a liquor license, not a problem...we brought our own! We always come back, especially for fall and winter dining."

  • "As always, the food is so great. Loved everything we ate. My friend and I had the Braised Ribs and Beet Salad as appetizers. We both got the Orrechiette Lamb Rago as entrees. YUMMY! I got the biscotti (best biscotti anywhere!) and gelato for dessert. My friend had the affogato, which she LOVED. Prices are excellent. Love to bring our own wine! Just wish the menu would change a little more frequently. I visit the Trattoria a lot and would love other choices."

  • "My fiancee and I went to The Trattoria for our one year anniversary, and had the best Italian food we have ever had. The Black Pasta, Veal. orecchiette, Pappardelle bolognese and the goat cheese panna cotta were all incredible. Service was flawless and the entire night was amazing."

  • "Everything arrived hot which is # 1 to me. The mussels in tarragon cream left me longing for more. The duck breast on parsnip purée was perfection. I went for the simple dessert of vanilla ice cream with hot espresso poured over it and something crunchy on top....delicious. My husband was very happy with his choices. I will return."

  • "Chef Steve does Italian better than the rest because he loves what he puts out and what he does, and like a man on a mission he kills it. If you like delicious, stick-to-your-ribs authentic Italian food, not the ever present Italian-American food, then this is where to eat."

  • "Love the food. WIll definitely go back. Want to order everything on the menu."

  • "When you add a 3-course price fixe for $35 and a no-corkage-fee byo wine to the outstanding food, this place would be hard to beat anywhere on Long Island."

  • "my family and i love this restaurant. I drive 130 miles round trip just to eat there. The staff is the best. Food gets better each time we eat there."

  • "We go to The Trattoria every Friday night! The food is always delicious , service great and can not beat the price. Good Luck to the new owner/ Chef Steve, as long as the formula stays the same it will be a success."

  • "I chose this restaurant for my book club's Christmas dinner and it did not disappoint. The seven of us all enjoyed every dish that we ordered. Having to not add wine to the bill is so awesome (this is a BYOB) place. The food is so different and prepared with such care . If I had anything negative to say it would be the decor , it perhaps could use some sprucing up (the sophistication of the food does not match the ambiance). This however would not stop me from going back and I /we all plan on doing soon very soon. my party even bought a gift certicate for her parents!"
