Diner Reviews
  • "Classic old Hollywood building and interior has been beautifully maintained. All staff reinforces this theme, with a young and classy energy.. All our table's diners were extremely pleased with their meals. The people watching is pure entertainment. The dining tables tucked away in the corners of the dining room are perfect for experiencing all this fine restaurant and bar has to offer, while catching glimpses of the City lights below."

  • "Wood paneling, low lighting, piano playing, sets the ambiance. The food is good. The service is better. You may see a star. But you will see a full range of Hollywood, from the older set in coats and tie to young hipsters. It's quirt the scene."

  • "Well....finally found the perfect-in-every-way-possible-evening. Beautiful, elegant, a true throw back to the way life was and should be. Old Hollywood meets today...with NO cell phones allowed and no photos, low live music and a room so perfect, only to be enhanced by the service and the food and the view. Our waiter Max a seasoned professional and then their is the most adorable maitre'd-Dimitri, who left us speechless with delight, a classic. The crowd was quiet yet sophisticated-whether it was old Hollywood or young and indie there was a true respect for the space. So nice to see people dressed up-men in ties...women in dresses. Old-young-cool-hipster-very famous-..with no attitude! Food-just what it should be-NOT fussy, just yummy."

  • "We arrived late after the theatre to dinner at 11:15pm on a Saturday night. the music duo ended by 11:30pm (we never heard any music) the ambience was beautiful but without music of any kind…boring no excitement what so ever. Luckly we were hungry and tired. Food and staff was good."

  • "The restaurant is great. Old world charm. Confusing website I would have given it 5 stars if I had known there was a patio that was amazing to dine. My husband stumbled upon it on his way to the restroom so we had after dinner drinks there. I suggest the outdoor dinning patio ( please specify when reserving) and ladies the heat lamps are everywhere foe cold evenings the view is spectacular."

  • "I had heard about the venue previously but was unprepared for the excellence in execution. We felt like we had stepped back in time. Definitely adding to our short list. Great cocktails, old school appetizers, unobtrusive service and consistent food."

  • "Top notch hidden gem! Definitely a throwback in time. Service was excellent and attentive. Food was excellent although Cosmo was a bit pricey. Got recommendation through Trip Advisor and found it accurate. You may even spot a celeb or two. We did!!!"

  • "We loved everything about the restaurant - the intimate dining, the menu, view, as well as the piano music which was heard but did not interfere with our conversation. Planning to go back again this week - my husband is craving the chicken pot pie!"

  • "Anniversary celebration and was perfect. Such a romantic restaurant."
    Dined on 3/3/2014
  • "Maybe it was because we were seated in a high traffic area, or maybe it was the fact that I needed my flashlight app to read the menu, or maybe it was the fact that we had 4 different servers, none of whom remembered the drink my wife ordered, or maybe it was the fact that the waiter didn't even ask me if I wanted another drink, or maybe it was the average food, or maybe it was that, after all that, they charged for parking. Can't put my finger on it, but, we did not enjoy the experience. Two appetizers, two entrees, three drinks totaled $195. I wouldn't mind it at all had the food and service matched the price. This place was probably really something back in the day. Nice view!"

  • "My wife and I arrived late. The maître de was gracious. The ambiance unbeatable Probably a top 5 restaurant in terms of comfort and Top 3 in food. The memorables: perfect artichoke, Fresh scrumptious shrimp cocktail, perfectly grilled Salmon, and better cheesecake than a 7th avenue Deli. Perfect 10 for a meal. The african American Waitress was pitch perfect. Forgiving and Accomodating without any act. Authentic Dining."

  • "Feels like a beautiful old men's club, but the clientelle includes young hollywood. Perfect service and delicious food. but the atmosphere is why I will return."

  • "We were seated right away, and our waiter was very attentive. I love that they serve raw veggies (including jicama, one of my favs) with dip instead of a bread basket. Although bread is available if you want it. Menu choices diverse and interesting. Delicious as always."

  • "What can I say, but one of the more memorable meals in a long time. I travel a great deal on business and this was one of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time. Dimitri took excellent care to keep me informed of my table availability and then ensure I was satisfied with the location once seated. Food was not served too quickly, excellent service and knowledge of food by waiter and great quality in preparation in taste. We had the filet and lamb and would recommend them to any one. Intimate setting, not too loud, but not so you cannot hear people at your table. Make sure you have a drink on the patio at the bar after dinner for a wonderful view of LA."

  • "I looked at this restaurant online. Had great expectations that fell very short. It is a nice place, but not worth going back."

  • "This is the kind of restaurant that you wish there were more. The setting takes you back to the good old days when dining out was an elegant experience. I am recommending it to all my friends."

  • "While well-known as one of LA's classy hotel bars, the Sunset Tower Bar & Terrace seems to get regularly overlooked on the ubiquitous lists of "historic" and "classic" steak joints in LA. It's a shame b/c while the menu might not focus solely on them, they have excellent steak and THE BEST PORK CHOPS i have ever had. EVER. Thick, flavorful and juicy in the bone, i challenge you to find another that is better. If you are not in the mood for the old-school, dark, wood-paneled dining room/bar, the same full dinner menu is also served out on the open terrace with the fantastic view on the other side. NOTE: The hotel mysteriously does no holiday decorations, which was a bummer on Christmas Eve."

  • "Christmas dinner at the tower was superb! My wife and I loved every moment from valet to staff service; every detail was on point. A true LA spot; the real Hollywood at its best!"

  • "There is no second place like this in LA. It's not fancy like so many other places in LA but it's famous at least you'll will see some famous people here. The food is excellent and the service very kind."

  • "great atmosphere and city views. service was very good, friendly. would go for a nice dinner or just a drink at the bar. loved the feel of the room"

  • "When it comes to Christmas, the only places you can go are hotels. Luckily we have lots of fun ones in W. Hollywood. The Tower Bar was the perfect choice."
    Dined on 12/25/2013
  • "Although the restaurant was very busy when we arrived for our reservation, we were seated almost immediately and well taken care of all night. The food was perfect (we had the salmon and the filet) and dessert too (the warm chocolate cake was great). There was a piano player and this added to the mood of the night without being at all intrusive in terms of noise level. The lighting was a little dim so a good idea to look at the menu on line before you go."

  • "My girlfriend and I came here for Christmas Eve and we had a wonderful time! I made a reservation through Open Table and requested a table with a view... and wow, the table was perfect. The food was really good, the service was great, and the ambiance was fabulous. We will definitely be back!"
    Dined on 12/24/2013
  • "The ambience is as good as it gets for a romantic dinner or a small group- old school, but not old fashioned. Rich and cozy. Piano player and upright bass. Food was great. Wait staff was very professional and fun."

  • "We had an amazing evening, so nice to find an elegant restaurant with a view. The window seats were comfortable and romantic. The food was excellent, we started with oyster's and clams casino. I had a seared tuna salad with truffle sauce that was absolutely incredible. I can't wait to go back soon!"

  • "This visit to the Tower Bar occurred when the Terrace was booked for a party, making the Bar crowded and noisier than usual. Food was delicious and service excellent. It is dark, with lush ambiance and the crowd was definitely unusual for the site which we visit often."

  • "I dine as often at possible at The Sunset Tower Bar and Restaurant due to the fact that the service is absolutely exceptional. The management and staff are always cordial and welcoming and the variety of menu items is great, plus Derek is a fine bartender and the pianist adds color to this lovely room in a historic building where I once lived when it was the St. James Club years ago. Jeff Klein has done something remarkable with this property and you will never be disappointed."

  • "Had a fun, good time...but talk about sticker shock! I was totally taken aback by the bill. $400 for 3 people! And we didn't eat or drink that much. What we had was good....but not crazily excellent and definitely not worth the price. I think it's better to come for a drink and have a starter and then have dinner someplace else!!!!"

  • "I went Sunday to celebrate my husband's 50th bday. Everything from start to finish was excellent. I had requested and got a romantic table for two at the window. We split the wedge salad. Usually i don't like wedges b/c overburdened with stuff but it was excellent - blue cheese dressing on side was light. He got the filet and me the grilled swordfish. As he doesn't like brussel sprouts and I don't like mashed potatoes we asked for subs - no problem. The fish and fingerling potatoes were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Creme brûlée- excellent and big enough to split. Drinks, while expensive, are good-size pours. 1complaint -5$ split charge on the salad.. I can understand that charge on a main dish that costs 30-40 but not a 13 dollar salad.."
