  • "Shrimp platter for 4 @ $39.95 is a great deal and 13 shrimp. Steaks have always been good and the home fries are the best. Always good to eat here and enjoy the ambience of this long lasting restaurant. Sonia Modes still plays the piano on Saturday nights!!!!"

This is where the pleasant nostalgia ends.. the food was average, the steak knives were dull... the service was great but our waiter should have invested in some of the awesome after dinner mints they have on the way out! Not The Top I have great dining memories of from back in the day... :/"

  • "The Top Steakhouse is a Columbus legend. They've been in business for a very long time, through word-of-mouth testimonials about the overall experience. Beginning with our arrival, it was a real pleasure to step into a genuine old-school steakhouse. The decor is dark and lighting dim, setting a romantic scene for diners. We were immediately greeted, seated, and had water poured. The service all evening was very attentive, and all our dishes were prepared to specifications. The food was delicious, and the cocktails and wine selection are extensive. One requested item was unavailable, but a very nice substitution was made. We were thrilled with our experience, and will certainly visit again."

  • "Service was good, but not outstanding. The interior was way too dark, especially near the door, stumbled in the dark both entering and leaving. The place was also quite noisy, very hard to hear the piano and singer and we were maybe 30 ft away. But, the place was in good shape and clean. Food was really great, baked potatoes were among the best we have ever eaten! Very good wine list, especially Cabs. Our steaks were top notch although only as good as the best we have had elsewhere, not better. My salad and my wife's broccoli were just right. Crème Brule was very good, but not the best we have ever had. Overall the food was among the best we have eaten, but...not sure it was really worth the price premium we had to pay."

  • "The Top is a classic steakhouse with great drinks, great food and live entertainment at the piano where regulars hang out and sing. We had a great waiter, Greg, and the bartenders made perfect cosmos! Great wine list both by the glass and bottle. You won't be disappointed here. Get a booth by the fireplace if you're feeling romantic. You can't go wrong here - consistent and customer service oriented."

  • "It was my wife's birthday and despite good reviews on food and questionable service, we took the plunge. As expected Top is a throw back, nothing more nothing less. Food was great, wine/drinks (Malbec. martini) just okay. Service? We had heard that Top's typical failing was not getting steaks cooked right; rare comes out well done and well done comes out rare. For us, I got a porterhouse medium which was perfect. My wife? They brought her plate out with everything on it EXCEPT her steak; they forgot it! While it was easily rectified and her filet was very good, and we WILL return, it just goes to show that matching your expectations to reality pays off."

Live piano music and jazz standards sung while sipping a smart cocktail, awaiting a sumptuous meal? Heaven. Yes, it was bustling, but the wait staff was wonderful, the maitre de was impeccable, and the food? Heaven, again. Thank you, The Top, for yet another memorable meal."

  • "It's easy to imagine Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra enjoying a steak and a cocktail in an establishment like The Top. While this restaurant is small compared to most well-known restaurant, this IS the place to enjoy an excellent meal. The atmosphere is dimly lit and seductive. The piano player and singer play jazzy, classy crooner music. The staff are attentive and pleasant. And the food...the BEST steaks and sides I've ever tasted. This place is a true gem and everyone should enjoy it at least once. Typically, we spend around $50 per person, but it's well worth the price. No other place I want to come for an all around well balanced experience. It has it all!"

  • "I had out of town guests from California and France. They were so impressed with the ambiance of The Top as well as the food, wine and service. Everyone at the table said it was the best steak and prime rib they had ever eaten! It was cooked to perfection and the salad and side dishes tasted outstanding. It made their visit something special. We all decided The Top would become our place to eat on their annual visit."

  • "Spent an evening here for a birthday dinner. Love the atmosphere- an original steak house feel, a little divey but that's why I love it. Don't think that the place has been updated since the 70's! Food was delicious- we started with the shrimp cocktail and had filets for dinner. Food was excellent. Service was good."

  • "Food good, but restaurant was way too crowded. We had made a reservation two weeks ahead of time, to celebrate a birthday with another couple. We were seated in a booth in the bar that was barely big enough for the four of us & was so dark that we had trouble reading the menu. They were trying to cram so many people into the seats around the bar area that we had a hard time getting out of our booth. We felt rushed, & the service was slow. We mentioned to our waitress numerous times that we were celebrating a birthday & she never acknowledged what we were saying, even with a Happy Birthday. The food was very good, but for the prices we would expect high end service & that was not the case. Would be hesitant to make the drive to visit again."

  • "Love the Top. From the moment you enter the restaurant you know you are in a unique and exciting place. The decor is vintage and you feel like you are in a Cary Grant/Grace Kelly film. The food is exceptional, best steak we have ever experienced. Our waitress, Connie, was warm, and kind. She almost outshines the amazing food. The classic Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennet tunes enhanced the experience. After dinner you can join the piano bar for a sing along. So much fun. A wonderful night for our entire family."

  • "I really liked the food and the place, but the only thing that upset me was that when we got there, they didn't look our reservation and just set us and they did not know that it was my husband birthday either, but when I confirmed the reservation I told them that! So no one gave him a happy birthday or a dessert like they said they would. So for me that looked desorganized. The place I was setting was by the fireplace and the person behind me kept hitting me with his chair...noise from the kitchen and from the drink/water spot was also annoying. But the food was great! Just need to be more organized!!"

  • "I grew up with The Top in my neighborhood, and like a fine wine it has grown better with age. The white tablecloths and attentive wait staff are not off- putting but allow for graceful dining whether you are on a special date or stopping in on the way home. The bar area, more informal and a bit drafty with smoke, allowed hints of live piano background that started softly jazz and ended karaoke kool. The best part is the lucious food. This renowned steak house knows how to make a beautiful fish presentation as well!"

  • "The atmosphere is great, nostalgic to the 60's for sure. The bar & piano/singer are very fun. The food was good and service great (waiters busy tho.) To me, being from a younger generation - seeemed unnecessarily high priced considering the 'old school-ness' of not favoring organic, local etc in the menu. I like to know my steak was responsibly raised and would actually pay more for THAT. I would definitely go back for drinks at the bar, but it seems excessive in today's world and economy to indulge in such an expense just for a dinner."

  • "Our out of town guests enjoyed their steaks. To be fair, it is a steak restaurant. But if anyone in your group does not eat meat, I would suggest an alternate place. The fish was very plain and did not taste fresh. Also, I was a bit disappointed to wait 30 min for a table on a weeknight with a reservation."

  • "Wonderful little retro place. We could imagine that Sinatra was standing at the bar. Steaks were "the top" and service was perfect. Only down side for our first visit was that rat pack music was only in the back ground when the guitar player singing Neil Young wasn't singing-rather wrong decade! But overall, a fun night out. We'll be back!"
