For over 50 years, our guests have come to enjoy and expect the hospitality at The Top. Still locally and independently owned, The Top is able to focus on service and quality as opposed to the “bottom line” focus of many modern steak houses.

  • "We are very happy to see Hans back behind the bar. He sure makes a Sidecar correctly. Don't see that anymore. Always very pleased to have Greg as our waiter. He does it all very professionally and remembers us and what we drink. Food consistantly very good. Only four stars for Ambiance due to the noise level. Wish something could be done about that short of a complete makeover which I would never recommend."

  • "So we were anxious to try something new and many have told me about The Top being a unique dining experience. I was not overly impressed w anything this establishment had to offer. Our meals were good, not great. I will say the Mac n cheese was great, some of the best I've had. But my filet was nothing spectacular and my husband ordered their feature ribeye and had no idea it was $60! Certainly not worth the money. I work in a fine dining establishment and never would allow a guest to order a $60 dish without informing them (their menu ribeye is $35, so it was fair to assume it was in that price range). We felt taken and mostly would not return."

I love the prime rib blackened which is always prepared to perfection. The service is spot on...I enjoy eating at the bar and all occasions they bar staff has been outstanding. On this visit they were equally as impressive. Michael and Olga went above and beyond expectation to create a memorable experience."

Service is impeccable, drinks are perfectly blended and quite ample, and the food is outstanding. There are so few of this type of restaurant left that we should all endeavor to patronize it to assure its continued success. Even though there has been a change of ownership, the quality and service has remained among the best in the city. Kudos to the staff for making it happen."

  • "First time, special occasion (anniversary dinner). Didn't know what to expect. Definitely a unique atmosphere and decor. Its old because it has never been updated, rather than intentionally decorated in a nostalgic theme. Anyway, the steak was cooked well, but the quality/taste wasn't on the level that I had hoped. Not bad, just not blown away. Affordable wine was good ($25/bottle). This place is a bit costly, but it's more of an icon now and you almost have to go so you can say you went. You won't be disappointed, but you may not like it as well as Hyde Park or somewhere similar."

  • "Food was very tasty. Had the fillet and spouse had the crab meat. Each were very fresh tasting. Fillet had a great crusty outside and was tender inside. Large pieces of crab that were sweet. House salad was basic but cold and crisp with good balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Bread was sourdough and was just ok. Really wanted the pretzel bread and had requested this when we made the reservation, but they didn't have any... :( They had live music and a singer which contributed to the romantic ambiance of our anniversary celebration. Wines were pleasant (a Pinot Noir and a Malbec), as has always been our experience at the Top. Have had other dishes previously- ribs, prime rib that were deliciously prepared. Recommend the Top...enjoy!"

  • "This place was amazing. I've lived in Columbus all my life and never been here. Wish I could get a do over on that. Unapologetically old-school, great service, great food. Steak cooked exactly to order, baked potato dressed at your table. The atmosphere is great too. I would imagine it looks pretty much the same as it did in 1955. Dark, cozy, with a live piano. It feels like the Rat Pack would have enjoyed it. Coming through the door felt like stepping into an episode of Mad Men. Price-wise, I felt like this was a pretty good value. As good or better steak than the well-known places for 20% less money. If you like new and trendy, this isn't your spot. If you like old school awesome food and service, stop in for dinner."

  • "Picture a menu from the 50's and 60's Shrimp cocktail, iceberg wedge, prime rib, baked potato with all the bad stuff, and creme brulee. That is what you see on the Top's menu, and it is all excellent. Wine list is not large but neither is their markup. It is all the way across town from us but worth the drive. "

  • "Service was poor. Waitress acted like she didn't want to be there. Manager never came to table to address 2 steaks cooked incorrectly. True disappointment as we have been there before with a totally different outcome. Steak quality was lacking. Size of steak does. It make up for quality of the meat. "

  • "So warm and accessible to my two elderly, blind relatives! Appreciation for that cannot be overstated! Service was very attentive and friendly. Salmon, filet, rib-eyes all were well prepared and flavorful. Sides were also tasty and french onion soup very good! Our experience couldn't have been better. Ambiance is extremely unique. Small and dark -- very hip or too retro depending on your taste. It was perfect for us! We could carry on a conversation, share great drinks and food AND enjoy the wonderful piano music. It added to our conversation and took us down memory lane with some of the songs. The Top lets you step back, relax and enjoy a classy evening the way your grandparents did in the 1950's. Can't wait for our next visit! "

  • "Agree w/ previous reviewers that the decor is old style and the restaurant is dark. However, the restaurant clearly specializes in steak and roast beef and they do an excellent job. Well-prepared meal with traditional steakhouse entrees (aged strip steak, prime roast beef) and traditional sides. Large servings. Friendly and attentive service during a very busy evening (Ohio State graduation day). Highly recommend for a carnivorous splurge. Vegetarians and small plate aficionados should look elsewhere. "
