  • "Our trip to The Tobacco Company was a date night gift given to my husband I. We knew nothing about the restaurant when we arrived. Our waiter gave us a great history lesson and the food was AMAZING! It was a blessing to spend a date night at The Tobacco Company. We will return for sure."

  • "Beautiful restaurant, great food, great service. Perfect to celebrate a special occasion."

  • "Everything was superb. I would visit again. The only I did not care for was the live music. I'm sorry to be unkind, but to me it was just loud noise."

  • "Dinner with spouse and guest. They both had scallops with risotto and raved over them. Large serving. I had prime rib with baked potato and roasted Brussel sprouts. I've been eating Tobacco Company prime rib for almost 37 years and never had a meal that wasn't excellent. Served beautifully rare with a little dish of au jus and a nice serving of horseradish. Many Richmonders think of it as a tourist place, but with good food, good service and reasonable prices, it's a great deal. 3 entrees, 4 drinks and tax = $122. Go and enjoy - but make a reservation - it was busy on a Wed evening."

  • "My wife and I had our anniversary dinner there, as we have done 4 of the past 5 years, and everything was as excellent as it usually is. She had the she-crab soup and then the sea scallops, those are her staples when we go there. I normally have shrimp cocktail and the filet mignon, but I decided to mix it up so I had the ahi appetizer and the primed rib. The ahi was delicious, and the primed rib was perfectly made to order. I had no room for dessert, but my wife decided to try a dessert special, a bread pudding with peaches, served over a very rich cream glaze. It was also outstanding. Our server Robert was very always nearby when we needed anything, and provided us with great service throughout our dinner."

  • "Great food, music, drinks, and service in a great downtown location. The bonus is covered parking for only $4.00 until 8am the next morning!!"

  • "Beautiful decor and comfortable seating in a classy setting. The menu was predictable with no real dishes that set them apart but the food was really enjoyable. The service was polite and prompt from our waiter James and we were not without anything we required. This is not an everyday dining place with the price point on the food for dinner. I would definite come back here for special occasions."

  • "Service was good. Timely, but didn't hover. Green beans and sweet potatoes were under cooked. Steak and salmon were tasty as were the crab soup and coconut shrimp. The main drawback is the meal was way over priced."

  • "Our first time here. We were so happy that we chose this restaurant! The building itself is just beautiful inside with lots of history. We had drinks first down in the bar . The service was great & they had live music, which we love. We went up to the second floor for dinner. Our food was excellent & the service by our waiter David was superb! Next time we're in Richmond we'll definitely be back!"

  • "I was worried we wouldn't get in and out in time to catch a movie but the service was right on target - one course following another in a timely fashion. The fish special was a little overcooked but everything else was very tasty. Great glass of wine for a good price. It was an enjoyable evening and we made it out in time."

  • "We'd had dinner here 10+ years ago so we had a client coming in to town, as were we, good table- positives end here...service started w/ female not understanding bottle water request,no drink orders were taken everything was done at once, drinks, appoetizers and entree-she crab soup was just barely tepid both entrees of swordfish were very thin & at best were fresh frozen it was not fresh. Prime rib was also a very thin cut piece but ok. Poor service continued with no one coming back to check on dinner until we were finished. Dessert -we were given menus later I overheard there were specials we didn't get that info. Very disappointed, manager seemed to ask some tables about service he never stopped or he would have been notified."

  • "Excellent décor. The fish special dish was wonderful...monkfish cooked to perfection and brilliant presentation. the Prime Rib as solid...if it was as good as the monkfish, it would have gotten 5 stars from me for food...overall a 5"

  • "The restaurant served delicious food with fabulous service. Our waiter David, was another highlight as he provided a wonderful history lesson for the building, its contents and the former historical financial district setting in Richmond. The Prime Rib rightfully holds its notoriety as a signature dish. The English Trifle dessert was decadent. Our second floor table provided a great atrium view. Our 7pm reservation allowed us to catch the last 30 minutes of the evening's cocktail jazz ensemble entertainment. The price's were very reasonable. We would definitely recommend this Richmond jewel to anyone. "

  • "Brought group of work colleagues, some for first time. David was our waiter and he was outstanding! We received a historical view of the restaurant which was so wonderful. I had been to the tobacco company before and the food has always been exceptional. My colleagues had the meatloaf, mahi and fish special which were on point. This is a gem of a place. Excellent service, staff and food. It will always be on my list of special places in Richmond. "

  • "My wife and I went here to celebrate my birthday. We've been several times before, and it never fails to deliver! The food was outstanding and the service was top notch. We live over an hour away, but we always make it a point to make the trip at least once or twice a year to enjoy!"

  • "We were blown away by the appetizers, she crab soup and dessert. Less impressed by the entree. I had the salmon and it was paired with a cold corn salad....not the best flavor combo. I like the hot/cold pairing, but it didn't work with this dish at all. Husband had the roasted duck special. Duck was tender on the outside, chewy on the inside....not the best cooking job on duck we've had. His polenta was wonderful and both our asparagus was good, but could have had a bit more flavor. Unfortunately we were just both a little disappointed by our main meals, especially after all the hype when we told people we were going there for the first time. BUT, hands down THE BEST she crab soup I've ever tasted!!!"

  • "This was my first time dining at The Tobacco Company and it was absolutely amazing! I went with a small group for restaurant week for my birthday and it was a treat for all of us. The food was freshly prepared, servers were very friendly and knowledgeable on the menu, beautiful atmosphere, and delicious food. I had the prime rib with the horseradish cream...magnificently cooked! The Southern Rock Oysters were divine and melt in your mouth. I honestly could have ate a dozen of those and still would have been satisfied. I would definitely go here again for a casual night out on the town. I was a packed house and I can see why, its just a great place. Glad I made a reservation because it was Prom Night as well; but we still had great seating. "

  • " I've never been disappointed. If you have a group of 4-6 request an office. It provides the privacy that knocks this place off the charts. The steaks are wonderful, scallops the best I've ever had and the soup how I start my meal every time. "

  • "I come to Richmond every two years for a meeting. I discovered the Tobacco Co. Back in 1990 and it is on my "todo" list every two years. Always the finest quality food. Prepared in unique ways with a decorative flair. That combined with great service and a comfortable setting makes for a great dinning experience. If I have only one complaint....they used to offer local Virginia wines. They did not have any. "

  • "Tobacco company restaurant is in a unique setting. It is in a very old building. The restaurant setting is appealing. The food is not appealing. Appetizers just okay. I had a chicken dish for my entree. Chicken was very tough and chewy. My dining companions did not enjoy their entrees either. Waiter was polite, but very slow. I would probably not eat here again."

  • "This was recommended to us by a guy from Richmond who we met at Monticello. We are from out of town so we decided to try his recommendation. We had no trouble getting a reservation (for Sunday evening, 7PM) but the place was packed by the time we left. The restaurant was beautiful and there was some very nice live music. Perfect gin & tonic and the food was great. I ordered the seafood special and it was truly fabulous. We had some Virginia wine, which was fun to try."

  • "The esthetics of the restaurant was great. The jazz band was a bonus. Menu selection was ample. One of the two prime ribs was half fat. Pecan pie is a must to have!"

  • "We spent a nice morning enjoying the special mother's day brunch. It was very warm and the wait staff were dripping sweat. After we were seated on the second level, we were able to adjust to the temp and enjoy the meal."

  • "This was a special occasion; Mothers Day for my mom of 94 years. We live in Williamsburg, Va. but wanted to go somewhere my mom has never been. Our server, Ian was really friendly and attentive and the food was outstanding. My Mom and wife had the Crab Cakes which they rated the best they have had. I would definitely go back. "

  • "This restaurant is right in the historic district of Richmond and takes up three stories of an old warehouse. It has a wonderful old elevator that takes you up to the 2nd and 3rd floors where most of the dining takes place. The bar is on the first floor. We were very pleased with the food. The salmon, meatloaf, pasta....everything was very very good. Definitely a place to go back to"

  • "I took my friend to dinner here. We had Chandler as our waiter and he made our dining experience very enjoyable! Our meal was great and timed perfectly. We never felt rushed so I thank him for that because that is very important to me. It made me feel like our patronage was appreciated and we weren't just a "number" who you couldn't wait to finish and leave ( the turn and burn routine ). Thank you..."

  • " We have been fans of Tobacco Co. for awhile, always having a great meal with good service. Since it was restaurant week, we decided to go out for dinner. Our server kept us up to date on when our next course was about to come out and checked on us often. The pork tenderloin was delicious and the pecan pie was out of this world. I was disappointed in the mojito I ordered. It was far too sweet for my taste. Overall, Tobacco Co. is a great atmosphere to enjoy a meal. It was particularly fun to watch the prom groups come and go. "

  • "The service and the management attitude here were great, but the food was poor. Looking at the menu suggested a lot of promise, but the execution was lacking. 3pounds of salt in everything - my Calamari was all but inedible. And my companions fish was very ordinary. The white beans that came with it had simply been extracted from the can, washed, and dumped on the plate. No lemon, no garlic, nothing. The attitude of the service staff and management was very positive (they comped the fish), but all in all, not a good experience. The atmosphere was very noisy. Might work for those who want an energetic environment, but not if you're looking for a relaxed experience."
