We had a very disappointing meal. The kitchen just does not have it for quality. The food was extremely disappointing. Service was marginal. We noticed the waitress hands with missing nail polish and chipped nail polish on the other fingers. Achhh.................. Too bad as the building and the view are priceless.

We went to brunch with a friend on Sunday to the Terrace. As you walk in there is a nice jazz ensemble playing and you have a great view of Lake Merrit. A great first impression. Unfortunately, poor service spoiled those initial feelings. We waited an exceptional time to receive our order, only to have to return one item as it was cold. I'm not sure if the problem was with the wait staff or kitchen, it was never explained. In an area with other options, I'm not sure we will return.

In the past two weeks, I have been to the Terrace twice. The first time, for my birthday, I was very impressed by the beautiful view of the lake, the warm and wonderful piano player, Rodney Bell who was playing in the lobby entrance way, the food and the outstanding service from Karin. I had a green salad with marinated red onions as well as a thyme omelet with sweet potato fries that I enjoyed. Since it was my birthday, I was presented with a chocolate volcano cake (you know the type, with molten chocolate oozing from the middle when you cut into the cake, and candle standing in a strawberry). Mmmm! The second time I went, I requested a seat through Open Table, in the special "stage" area. The night before, I called, and was assured that I could have seating there, but when I inquired about the piano player, was told he wasn't scheduled for Friday. On Friday, I had to push my reservation back a half an hour, and the host, Kevin, was very sweet about it and held our table for us. When I walked in, to my surprise, the piano player WAS there, and I was told he sometimes just comes in and volunteers to play for the seniors. If you enjoyed Nat King Cole, you'll really like him. I ate exactly the same as what I had the previous week, and found the quality of the salad and sweet potato fries not up to par, but the omelet was better. The service was outstanding; Karin was as attentive and sweet as the first time I was there. A special treat was to be visited by the head director of the hotel and restaurant, Johanna who filled us in on the history of the place. She is the BEST, bubbly, warm and respectful. After eating, we wanted to hear the piano player who invited us to just sit in the lobby when we told him we couldn't hear him well from the dining area. It was like having a private concert. He has just an amazing spirit. Only Drawback, but totally my fault, I got a $66 parking ticket. Will I go back again? Absolutely.

We love the brunch options here with the great view of the lake. This is our new brunch place since we can walk here from our apartment. The Joe's special was everything I wanted in a scramble - ground beef, onions, peppers, spinach, eggs and with home fries, I mixed everything together for the ultimate breakfast. The fried chicken bennies had a little too much going on with the collard greens and gravy smothering the fried chicken and waffles - maybe they could try having the gravy and collard greens on the side for you to mix/mash around. The bottomless mimosas also round out the breakfast.

Food was solid - better than I expected, but not over-the-top fancy either. Table mates said their cocktails were good. The service was down to earth, no fabricated airs, efficient, effective, personal yet not too casual, and very professional. It made the dining experience very relaxing & enjoyable. Prices were fair! I will be back more often, not just for special occasions.

The restaurant is set in what appears to be an old-age facility, which makes the entry a little strange. The setting and view are beautiful, but the room decor and feng shui are a little...off somehow (it should be much nicer than it manages to be). We were there for brunch, and the service was clueless: no one offered coffee for about 20 minutes after we were seated, and then no one ever came by again for a refill (or anything else, for that matter). I had an omelet which was fine, if a bit overdone. My companion had a pasta dish which was simply awful (we should have sent it back). Food was bad enough that I didn't bother with the drawing for a free meal - wouldn't go back even for free.

The food and service are quite good, the room is romantic 30s style, the view over the lake is spectacular, day or night, but the what made the evening for our group of 8 were the swinging band and high-energy dancing of a talented group of patrons, some dressed in 'jitterbug' outfits. Wow. I believe there's a band every Friday, as well as other events on other days. We felt that we were in an elegant club in the 30s or 40s. We left satisfied and humming.

One of my favorite appetizers is Caprese Salad, which I ordered. It was the first time I ever had cherry tomatoes as the tomato for that salad. It would have been okay, but... I ordered a marinated flank steak on a bed of spinach and fingerling potatoes. Included on the bed of spinach was a bunch of cherry tomatoes. Mi' lady ordered the salmon. The salmon was surrounded by a cucumber and cherry tomato garnish(?). Cherry tomatoes seem to be a favorite of the house. The steak and salmon was bland, something I would not go back for. The fingerlings were sadly disappointing. The potato soup was bland. The experience was good because of the music and the friendly wait staff. The happy hour with live music will be enjoyed by us.

I was really surprised by this place. The menu offerings were great for brunch - we had a smattering of foods like baked quinoa, biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash. We liked the bottomless mimosa offerings. This is somewhere I would take guests in town to for brunch and perhaps for dinner to see the sunset.

The view was beautiful! If I didn't have any plans to eat or receive decent service at this restaurant I would give it 4-Stars! Our food was never sent to the kitchen by the server. We were asked to pay for our 3 mimosas, which seemed a bit rude after not putting in our order. The half-hearted apology from the server left me pretty empty. Also, this is not a kid-friendly restaurant (which is fine).

There is nothing I dislike about this place. Twice now (once for my bachelorette and over last weekend) this place delivers on brunch. Bottomless mimosas or bloody mary's for 16.00 you cannot go wrong! The coffee is delicious and those mini muffin and preserves they give you when you sit down are amazing. Highly recommend the biscuits and gravy for brunch.. the crab omelet is also a great option.. as is the chicken and waffle. Thus far there everything our parties have ordered have been stellar.

Enjoyed a nice saturday brunch at The Terrace Room with a friend. My only complaint is that the poached eggs on my benedict were overcooked and the bottomless mimosas were quite pricey, but I think you are paying for the location. Otherwise the view was beautiful, service was great and the little muffins w/ jam they served us while we waited for our food was a nice little touch.

Got seated at a nice table and was impressed when the water glasses w filled within a couple of minutes - I drink water and will often base my tip on how much attention was paid to the water glass. It was probably 10 or 15 minutes before someone got around to taking a drink order, which took at least another 10 minutes to arrive. More waiting before we got to order food, and then more waiting and waiting for the food to arrive. And nobody came by asking if we needed another drink, had to finally flag someone down for that. The more waiting and having to wave my hat to get attention for someone to come and bring the check. By this time I started getting vocal and it ended up with the manager coming over and taking $30 off the bill.

I thoroughly enjoyed my brunch at The Terrace Room. The complimentary muffins and jam were quite delicious, the bottomless mimosas were fine and not watered down, and my lobster omelette was good. In general, the food was above average though nothing spectacular, but who cares in that spectacular dining room?! The service was great: our server even knew a lot of the history of the restaurant and hotel. All in all, fantastic brunch spot and I can't wait to go back.

The ambience was great, but the waiting time for everything was pretty noticeable and irksome. Who I thought was I main server didn't check in on us at all and I had to keep looking around for other servers to ask questions and remind someone that we had asked for the check some time ago. It wasn't terrible, but something I'll keep in mind for the future.

Beautiful setting and the live jazz swing band awesome. The service was incredibly slow from the beginning, but picked up as the evening went on. The food was terrible. Portion size was embarrassingly small. Price were high. I have been there twice for an evening of dinner and music with different friends. I had to apologize for the food, slow service and portion of food. I would return for after dinner drinks in the bar and music, but never again for their dinners.

Serving their demographics well. I made reservations here after looking at the menu and seeing they have 4stars. I will enjoy this restaurant when i am 85 but not a day younger. As we were brought to our table we noticed the median age was well above 75 and out table was surrounded by walkers from the surrounding tables. The food itself was okay, nothing to brag about. We ordered steak and egg, the steak was order med rare and came out well done. The French toast was diner average nothing special. My eggs Benedict was tasty but everything was served with bland homefries made from russet potatoes. The view is beautiful. The service is attentive. This restaurant potential to be that must go to restaurant but the food is just mediocre.

The Terrace Room is an excellent place for larger group brunches. Everyone in the group enjoyed their food and the 1920's style ambiance of the restaurant. The eggs Benedict with home fries was delicious and the Mimosa's were prepared with just the right amount of orange juice and bubbly. The large windows lit up the room and provided great views of Lake Merritt. The staff was very friendly, polite, attentive, and accommodating to our large group. I would recommend The Terrace Room for brunch and will definitely eat here again.

We dined at the Terrace Room primarily to listen to the jazz band, Chops, which is excellent. We loved the music and dancing and the general ambiance created by the gracious layout of the space and the magnificent urban view. Frankly, we weren't overwhelmed by the food. Neither of our dishes showed either the thought or the preparation that would have warranted the prices. We had a fragrant and full-bodied Chardonnay by the glass. The per glass price was excellent. We will probably return for the music, but will order from the bar menu rather than the dinner menu.
