  • "OUR FOOD WAS AVERAGE TO GOOD. PRICES WERE HIGHER THAN FOOD QUALITY. AMBIANCE GREAT. SERVICE VERY GOOD. THE SALMON ON A SANDWICH WAS BURNT, SMALL AND OVER COOKED. WE REPORTED THIS TO WAITER. SOUP WAS DELICIOUS...GUMBO SALADS LACKED CHARACTER BUT WERE ADEQUATE. SCALLOPS NOT SEARED THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL SPOT WITH AVERAGE FOOD FOR THE COST."

  • "The beauty of the William Penn Hotel remains intact, but not at all stodgy, elegant, yet relaxed. Service was friendly, well-timed and attentive to the varied ages of the party, 8-85. Excellent venue for a special occasion. The gumbo was a hit with the two diners who ordered it. Salads were unique and extremely fresh. 5/8 adults ordered fish entrees (salmon, snapper or walleye) which were fresh with unique flavors that did not overwhelm. All ordered sides were excellent except Chestnut stuffing (the only disappointment of the evening). William Penn cheesecake remained a favorite. Jazz playing in the lobby was a nice addition to our 6:30pm meal."

  • "Took my family and friends to The Terrace Room for her birthday. The food selection and quality were excellent, service was very attentive without hovering, and the setting was fancy but not expensive. Great time. Would definitely return when in Pittsburgh, PA."

  • "The food was as I expected--tasteful and in abundance. The pleasant surprise was our waiter ( Josh I think); he was personable, funny and set the mood for the entire day! We would come back to the Omni simply because of that morning and his attitude!!!"

  • "We had Sunday brunch two times prior to this visit and were totally impressed. We were in town for a show over the weekend and made it a point to include the Sunday brunch at the William Penn. We had reservations at 11:00 (when the brunch was scheduled to begin). We had to wait for a table to be cleared for us (so not sure what the point of a reservation was). Once we seated, about 11:15 - we were told they were still setting up the brunch. Nothing was labeled - so we had to guess what the items were. Serving utensils were not brought out for some dishes until 11:30 or so. Some never had any. The selections were so disappointing. No waffles, no pancakes, no fresh fruit. Go somewhere else for this $$$. We won't be back."

  • "The food was good. The made to order omelette was good, albeit one of the smaller omelette's I ever had. My only displeasure was the fact that they advertise for a 11am brunch, we got there and were seated at 11am, but it wasn't until 11:15 or so until they finished setting up for the brunch. We were there before a Penguins game and had a little bit of a time crunch. But it all worked out, brunch was ok for the money. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance, service was very good."

  • "The Terrace Room is such a hospitable atmosphere, very quiet and the service staff was exceptional. Dinner was excellent, best NY Strip Steak and Salmon we've had in our lives! Kudos on the dessert and wine selection also! Was a wonderful anniversary for us (3/13/14)!"

  • "for any meal. Food is always very good and service excellent. One minor issue was our server actually would not say pardon me when he want to ask or inform us of something."

  • "Recommend for special occasions. Lovely room in old style...think large chandeliers. We also enjoyed an after dinner drink in the Speakeasy in the basement."

  • "In 10 years, this restaurant has never failed us. The service is always amazing---where do they get these waiters who wait on you as if they actually love what they do? The appetizers and entrees, as usual, were noteworthy. However, this time the dessert was fairly disappointing: the bread pudding was the consistency of banana bread. None-the-less, we shall return."

  • "Always outstanding food quality and service. Just the correct amount of entrée in a quality that is unsurpassed in any other Pittsburgh dining experience. We dine at Terrace Room every Feb. 24th to celebrate our anniversary and our original stay at the William Penn. We also dine there periodically during the remainder of the year."

  • "The Terrace Room at the william Penn hotel brings to life old world dining. The nearly century old dining room is very impressive with its high ceilings, wall paintings and decorations. The large space makes for a good atmosphere to visit during the meal. You don't feel crowded by adjacent diners. The service was superb. The food was familiar, yet unique in its preparation and taste. During our meal there was live music in the lobby just outside of the Terrace Room which added a nice ambience. Being Valentines Weekend the free champaigne and a rose for the ladies was a very nice touch."

  • "The brunch buffet included a wide assortment of foods in small enough portions that it was easy to sample a little of almost everything! Breakfast staples bacon, sausage, and scrambled eggs were there, but also roasted chick over steamed vegetables, and a carving station for ham and smoked salmon. The made-to-order omlette station moved quickly. I asked the chef for his recommendation: the Mediterranean omlette with goat cheese. He even gave me a few tips for preparing the same omlette at home! Muffins, breads (accompanied by a wide variety of cream cheeses,) and several salad options were also available, as well as individual cheese cakes, chocolate custard filled tarts, and other sweets to top off the meal."

  • "The hotel and dining room are grand and historic. Worth a look. The dining room was empty, but we were seated right next to another couple.I should have asked for a more private table, they had to listen to our conversation, and we theirs. The menu had a good variety of choicesThe bread they served was excellent. Food was good, but heavy on the butter and salt. The glasses on the table were cloudy. When I pay $13 for a glass wine, I want the glass to sparkle. Wait staff was super! I have had a lot of better meals downtown for the same cost or cheaper."

  • "Felt like royalty dining here. The bread was cold and the salads had little flavor. I ordered one that was supposed to have goat cheese on it, but had about a crumb of it. So, we were expecting our dinners to be just ok. However, the main course more than made up for the disapointing start. The filet was tender, done just right and the seafood was delicious. Service was excellent (although a little TOO much at times...I had been asked if I was done at least 4 times before I actually was!) But, I am a slow eater and like to linger."

  • "I love dining in the Terrace Room. The ambiance is perfect for a dinner for two or a an event for 10. The staff is very attentive and professional. I have eaten at the Terrace Room many times. The food is always wonderful and very creative in presentation. On this visit it was restaurant week and I had the Roasted Pumpkin and Smoked Maple Bisque and the Great Lakes Walleye. I was amazed that I was able to have pumpkin soup in January and the distinctive flavors of the soup were divine. The walleye had great texture and flavor and was very moist. The spices were complimentary without overpowering the fish. For dessert I had the Raspberry Studded Chocolate Terrine - ohhhh yummmm! It melted in my mouth. A Simply Elegant Meal."

  • "My experience here was disappointing. Perhaps it was because my friend and I tried the Pittsburgh Restaurant week menu, but the portions were small. The food we ordered was good, but forgettable. The most interesting thing we tasted was the bread basket, which was so good we asked for seconds. In the end, the restaurant took a 20% tip, which was not what we left because our waiter, while pleasant, was very slow. It made my friend and I feel uncomfortable. It was fun to try this place out, but we will not be going again."

  • "I was there for restaurant week with my boyfriend. We were very excited to eat dinner at the Terrace Room for Restaurant Week. We made a reservation in advance and that was not necessary. I was a little disappointed to find that there were maybe three other groups there. It was nice that the restaurant was quiet and we could have a good conversation but we were expecting more people. The food was fantastic! I had a delicious soup and sweet potato gnocci for my meal. They were both absolutely fantastic! I would recommend the restaurant for the food! The atmosphere is great as well, and is great for a nice quiet meal."

  • "The Terrace Room offers an uncommonly classic business luncheon experience. Attentive service, an inventive and diverse menu combine with the hotel's lovely decor to provide a relaxed and almost club-like experience. The food is expertly prepared and presented. The William Penn Terrace Room should not be overlooked."

  • "The service was painfully slow, and for the prices, I expected the servers to be a bit more refined. Food was adequate, prepared well, although portions are a bit small. With all the wonderful restaurants in Pgh, I won't be rushing back here."

  • "Our group of 9 was seated right next to another large group - in an otherwise completely empty restaurant! Food was just okay, but the service was not very good at all. Our waiter did not have a firm grasp on the English language, the bar could not make me an Old Fashioned, and the server forgot half of my husband's meal. The meat in the charcuterie was "off" which resulted in the plate being sent back. The decor is large and ornate like you'd expect to see at Disney. I much prefer a more subtle finery. I did receieve a complimentary dessert for my just-passed birthday (I recieved a few gifts from my friends and the waiter must have keyed off that)."

  • "The Terrace Room is just a great treat, especially for New Year's Brunch. The salmon was great.. And I had some excellent scrambled eggs and sausage. With an option (that only one of our party of 15 took) to take another entree. Fine and friendly service. For a large party I would recommend early arrival to check on reservation. The restaurant seemed unaware of our reservation. Given that there were few diners it was no problem."

  • "Everytime I come here, it is a wonderful experience. The service is top notch and the food never disappoints!"

  • "My only complaint about the service was that we were immediately given orange juices and coffees when we were seated. I thought this was a service provided and breakfast but I then when we ordered our waiter said he thought we were getting the breakfast buffet like everyone else (apparently they were included free in the buffet only). I was charged for 4 drinks I would not have ordered otherwise. The atmosphere is great due to the hotel. However, there were deeply creased tablecloths on all the tables laid out crooked and looked sloppy. The food was the worst part of our experience. It's completely overrated and not enjoyable at all. For a $60 breakfast I could have gotta something of a higher quality and better tasting for under $30."

  • "The Omni chain runs a very impressive detailed & professional service. The staff is both quietly reserved yet open for friendly banter & accomodation of any resonable need. The Terrace Room is simply iconic, and the history is readily shared by the staff. Interesting and very relaxing while still being quite dignified. The New Year's eve entertainment of Etta Cox & Al Dowe made for an even more enjoyable experience. Truly outstanding."

  • "We have celebrated New Year's Eve at the William Penn for many years. The ambiance and food is always excellent. The service was a bit lackluster this year but I think that was due to the fact that our waitress was very young and not quite as experienced as some of the other servers. Nonetheless, the evening was memorable."

  • "On New Year's Day we had a lovely brunch at The Terrace Room. It was excellent with a buffet of eggs, wonderful bacon, sausage, an omelet station, potatoes, bagels, bread, muffins, a variety of spreads, and more. They also offer a very nice menu of a la carte items, like waffles or eggs Benedict, something for everyone. The food is high quality, varied, plentiful, and well-prepared. FYI: they have all their menus listed on their website."

  • "We attended brunch with my mother on a crowded steeler game day and the fans overtook the buffet, the service and the whole ambiance. We had to wait for drinks, food was picked over and not up to par for a restaurant of this caliber. Even with a reservation we were placed at a table in the middle of the walk way to the buffet and felt trampled on. It was clear our party of three- myself, my daughter and my 70 year old mother were there dressed up for a special day. I have been there in the past and had a window booth seat and thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful experience- NEVER again on a game day though! For a Sunday brunch it also lacked much selection for food- I was surprised. In the past I thought it included prime rib, ham, etc."

  • "Went with a group of four to the Terrace Room on Christmas Day. The special menu dinner with its options was excellent. Just right for the occasion. The service was equally outstanding and the room's ambience was unique with its art nouveau design that suggested the elegance of restaurants in Prague."

  • "Love the grand Terrace Room for Christmas. The hefty price point matches the setting. They make an excellent martini. We ordered and then we sat and waited.People around us were getting bread baskets but we did not. A manager came by and we asked him for it which he promptly brought. My salad arrived with no dressing. By the time we saw our waiter again everyone else was finished with their salads so I didn't eat it. Our entrees arrived. I ordered tenderloin done rare. I had three pieces of meat on my plate. Two were well done, brown all through. The third was medium well. So I couldn't eat my tenderloin. The price tag was too hefty for such blatant oversights.A hefty price is fine, but it should come with excellent food and service."
