Diner Reviews
  • "Our waiter from France was the best. It was lobster Friday and they were out if lobster when we arrived for our 7:30 reservation. The food we had instead was very good but disappointed they ran our of lobster when it's the special"

  • "As with other reviews, I wasn't crazy about the decor and ambience when I walked in but Robert put us at ease, made great recommendations and it was a lovely night for me and the wife. Get Robert as your server and everything will be fine! Tuba aoli and nah I mahi were outstanding. "

  • "Very good, fresh food. Service was a bit slow, but when I asked them to expedite our dinner, it came out quickly."

  • "This restaurant is a quiet little gem inside the Ritz Carlton. I was looking for a great farm to table restaurant experience and this more than satisfied it! The food tasted so fresh with all of its natural flavors! Some of the portions were a bit small though. I 100% recommend the paella and ceviche. Service was excellent! The staff was so friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable."

  • "At first glance of the restaurant, I took note that there were no table cloths, which made the room seem very casual for a high-end restaurant. The food was OK but not great. I ordered a filet mignon cooked medium, which means there should be a little pink inside, but it was cooked medium-well and was brown through and through. The steak was bland and lacked seasoning.I ordered bread pudding for dessert, and thought it was average -- it was a little dry so some sort of sauce would have helped. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. I left feeling mildly disappointed."

  • "I had very high hopes for this restaurant. After reviewing the menu online my husband and I were very excited. We had excellent service, our waiter could not have been more helpful. The Pineapple Cream (1944 Mai Tai) was divine. Food is very tasty, but for the price and portions I would rather go to Merriman's at the resort next door. Probably will not go back."

  • "Had a phenomenal meal at the Terrace. The whole experience was much more than we could have imagined. Outstanding food and wine pairings made the meal perfect. Thanks for such a wonderful evening."

  • "It is hard to believe that they use the same restaurant for breakfast and for fine dining. Unfortunately it retains the breakfast ambiance. I went to celebrate my wedding after a beach ceremony on valentines day. They knew about the wedding and did not make any effort to make it special. Food was good but the whole dinner was way overpriced! Breakfast is very good but go to Merrimans for dinner..."

  • "Dinner review: It is too bad a restaurant with such great food and great service looks like a Denny's inside. It is quite obvious upon entering the restaurant that it was designed to be a breakfast place, which makes you feel so out of place for dinner. Robert, our server was fantastic and deserves to work in a more appropriately designed-for-fine-dining dinner setting. All they really need to do is dim the lights and put some votive candles on the tables--that would be doing a little to go a long way to improve the ambiance there. They would probably get more business if they would make it seem like a different spot than where you ate breakfast--for some reason that's just not very sexy."

  • "The food and our server Robert were both fantastic. Usually hotel restaurants are a notch below, this one is top shelf."

  • "The Ritz at Kapalua used to serve romantic dinners in a beautiful open air dining room overlooking the ocean. We were very disappointed to find they are no longer using that venue and have relocated the fine dining restaurant to the enclosed, coffee shop location below the main lobby. Although the food is similar to that served before, the ambience is vastly inferior, and we doubt that we will return."

  • "We were welcomed by an excellent, professional waiter, Robert. He is French and seemed happy to put up with my kids' and my desire to practice French. The service was perfect throughout our meal and Robert was so friendly and kind. We all left with warm feelings about the restaurant. The food, however, was a bit variable. A flatbread with artichoke, goat cheese, and black olives was crispy, perfectly balanced and delicious. The burgers were excellent with lots of smoky flavor from the bacon. But when it came to more complicated dishes like the crispy opakapaka, it wasn't as good. The fish was a bit overcooked and the skin was actually rubbery. The wine list is fairly limited for a restaurant located in a prestigious hotel."

  • "The dinner was so good that we repeated the experience a second night. The best seafood paella on the planet. Friendly and personable wait staff.."

  • "The restaurant was lovely and the food and service were fabulous. Nevertheless, it was hard to enjoy because the room was way too cold. There we were in Maui with great weather and the Ritz kept the room too cold."

  • "We were definitely there at the end of September for our anniversary, and there was no email saying our reservation was a no-show. But two and a half months later I see in my Open Table account that there were no points given even though the dine was recorded. I cannot figure any other way to communicate this, so here it is. This is a lovely restaurant on the beach, or as close as you want to be for fine dining. Food is good, but two months later I can't remember too many details. I heartily recommend the Ritz Terrace, but MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR OPEN TABLE POINTS!"

  • "The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. Convenient after a long day of travel as it is located in the hotel. Very nice wine list, fresh, local fish and produce."

  • "The best vacation dinner ever. Fabulous.. Superb. Awesome. You really have to try it."
    Dined on 8/7/2013
  • "Was staying at the Ritz so ate there twice. Same servers who were excellent - very attentive. Food both nights very good. Wine list needs more "special, limited production, smaller winery wines," not the typical wines that you seein almost all the restaurants in Maui. Also would be nice to have an outdoor section but since they redid the hotel in 2007, they enclosed it. Too bad."

  • "All in all the food was very good - we only had hamburgers. Burgers were large and came with an ample supply of Maui onion rings which were very good. Prices for food at The Ritz are expensive. Two hamburgers and two glasses of water came to $50 with tip. If you want a cheap dinner you may want to dine somewhere else. Otherwise you won't be dissappointed here."

  • "The Ritz used to have a spectacular restaurant over looking the ocean called the Banyan Tree. Sadly they closed it when they opened the Terrace. Whomever made this decision should find a new job as this room, menu, service and view have nothing going for it. I would only eat here if I was a guest and had no intention of getting in my car. We should have had a clue when the bride and her groom waiting out front said that although they were married at the Ritz her reception was elsewhere. A sad waste of a gorgeous space and irreparable damage to a world class brand."

  • "This was the best meal we had in Maui and we went to Mama's Fish House etc. By far a better menu and food quality than anything else we experienced."
    Dined on 5/21/2013
  • "The restaurant is fairly new but the food is exquisite. The chef uses very seasonal and local products and really knows how to pair flavors. The drink menu is very elaborate with unique mixed drinks available. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys fresh and local ingredients. The prices are very reasonable too."

  • "I thought it was going to be a very nice place, instead it was a a country club a place you would go for a beer after golf. The wine list was very extensive ,but overall not the place you want to dress up for. And very very expensive ."

  • "Every aspect of this restaurant topped the charts. Very pleased with everything from employees and their positive energy and knowledge about the menu/wine list, to how everything tasted"

  • "We ate here twice during our vacation since we were in the hotel. Food was very good and expensive but that is what you would expect at the Ritz. We had our picture taken with JOJO the chef so that was a treat!"

  • "Nice food, we liked this much better than Merriman's down the street."

  • "Went for 1/2 off wine night. the tuna was great and my dish "special" was ok. the wine was half price and wonderful, and the view and people are great!"

  • "The food here is amaaazing! The bartender is probably the top one in Maui as well!"

  • "Unbelievable meal. Stayed at the ritz while on the maui segment of our island hopping honeymoon and thought we would try the banyan tree one night to avoid going out. Had an excellent server and great dining experience. would recommend to anyone."
    Dined on 9/25/2010
  • "Interesting tasting menu - some of the dishes tried too hard, so I wouldn't call this a destination restaurant for foodies. Great, if you're staying at the Ritz. Service was kind and polite but a little unprepared (server had to check with the kitchen/bar on a couple of items, one of the tasting menu dishes that he recited was later (as in, 2 minutes later) deemed unavailable, etc.)"
    Dined on 9/9/2010
  • "The Banyan has the most outstanding food on Maui. Dishes are prepared attentively and imaginatively with local ingredients. Can't say much more than that. Being the best on Maui isn't necessarily a crowning achievement - but if the Banyan was situated in San Francisco it would easily hold its own."
    Dined on 8/10/2010
  • "This is the Ritz Carlton Kapalua's signature restaurant, and you want to order fish of some kind here. The food is very good through all the courses, and the place is great for families or groups as well as more intimate dinners, which is a virtue in a fine dining establishment located on an island resort. This won't be the best meal you've ever eaten, nor the best meal you've eaten for the price, but if you're staying at the resort anyway, spend an evening here and you'll enjoy yourself."
    Dined on 3/23/2010
  • "A wonderful place to go on vacation. The wait staff is the best we have ever encountered (a special shot out to "Robert" (pronounced Ro-bare). The food is delicious and the chef routinely comes out to make sure everyone are enjoying the food. This is one of our first stops in Maui."
    Dined on 2/6/2010
  • "The menu descriptions weren't very accurate and didn't match the actual dishes. The lamb tandoori with mango mint lassi appetizer turned out to be rather unappetizing lamb meatballs on sugar cane skewers with very little lassi. The Waipoli Green Salad vinaigrette was watery and wilted the lettuce leaves. The Sea Bass wasn't cooked through all the way so half of the fish wasn't edible, and the part that was tasted more like a Halibut than Sea Bass. The "couscous" that came with the Sea Bass wasn't the usual fine grain couscous, but it was the best part of the dish. The Crispy Ehu was tasty, and the best dish that we ordered. The service was awful, our server didn't know the menu well, and never checked to see how our main dishes were."

  • "We chose to have the "sunset menu" (prix fixe) and we were extremely impressed with the food. We have dined in many great restaurants all over the world and thought this one was fantastic. A culinary delight!"

  • "Not only excellent food and services, but less expensive that inferior restaurants in Maui"
    Dined on 10/24/2008
  • "Without question, the worst meal in Hawaii, not just Maui. The food was extremely overpriced for the value. I had the chicken, which consisted of three or four slices of chicken, although it tasted fine, it was nothing special to warrent such pricing. My wife's fish was very bland. It was our anniversary and this was intended to be our "special" meal, needless to say we were disappointed. The price for our meal was over $200.00, no wine was purchased and four alcholic drinks total. In fact, within an hour of the meal, we were hungry again and had to eat something else."
