A word from The Tavern
From hanging glass beads to architectural artifacts and an original Brunswick bar painted in gold and turquoise, this is clearly not your father's steakhouse. The Tavern's menu features USDA prime beef, Australian Wagyu, organically raised Uruguayan beef, and organic free-range chicken, diver-caught Maine sea scallops, assorted fresh fish, cold water Rock Lobster Tails, and in season: oysters from both coasts, the Alaskan king salmon run, live Maryland soft shell crabs, morels, chanterelles, and porcini from hunters in Oregon and Washington, and fresh produce from local county farms. An award-winning wine list featuring over 1,200 selections, a great wine by the glass assortment, and an unusually well-stocked bar round out the Tavern's beverage program. And Now… The Tavern has moved to a new level. In preparation for the soon to be opened Tavern Lounge, The Tavern Dining Room has moved to newly remodeled and redecorated quarters upstairs.Continued

  • "The ambiance is very nice, the service is impeccable and the food is good, but not great for the expense. The fish was okay, the lobster great, but the steak was just okay. We did not order the upper echelon steaks, but for $33, the one that was recommended was a disappointment. I'm the person who likes the option of having an unimpressive steak slathered in a rich red wine and mushroom sauce. No sauces. We did love the fact they were very accommodating where sharing plates was concerned, and even separated the salad very generously and just put all the food in front of us so we didn't have to pass things. Overall a nice experience, but had the service not been impressive and the ambiance inviting, we wouldn't have been very impressed."

  • "As always, the service and food were top notch. The Uraguayan steak was wonderful and the 12 oz. filet was perfectly cooked and very tender. We had decided on drinking a Bordeaux wine with our meal but weren't sure what we should pick. After giving the server our range (around $80), the wine steward proceeded to pick a delightful wine that was actually a bit under the price range. I couldn't recommend this restaurant highly enough!"

The staff is warm and inviting, service is impeccable (especially on a Tuesday!), and food is consistently delicious! I always get the grilled salmon and my husband got the striped bass. Both were cooked to perfection."

  • "My wife and I went to the tavern for a celebration and we are very glad we did. I would highly recommend the baked French onion soup, probably the best I've had. My wife had the striped seabass and she now swears it's one of her all time favorites. The 12 ounce Portuguese steak was also superb,not the best I've ever had as we've eating steak all over the world, worth the money for sure. The service was outstanding! Never a moment where we couldn't find someone and the even waited for us to both finish before taking the plates away, a rare occurrence in our experience. The manager paid great attention to detail and was always on the ball. Overall a great experience and I wish we'd tried it earlier."

The atmosphere and the quitness make the place but I think the real gem is the downstair bar area for just chilling out and having a few appetizers. Will certainly return, especially winter time."

  • "My wife and I went to The Tavern after seeing it in "Check, please" and going to Firkin a few times. The menu was small, but had some variety with steaks, chicken, pasta, and seafood. The steaks we had were cooked perfectly, sides were a la carte, but plenty to share. The service was attentive, but not intrusive; top notch. Price was similar to Chicago steakhouses, but with the same quality and in the north burbs. We will definitely be returning."

  • "Great ambiance, reminiscent of a French restaurant in old Montreal. Very professional and attentive service from all personal that we came in contact with. Upscale clientele. Menu choices very mundane and ordinary, not fitting the very high prices or the fine ambiance. The food was disappointing, heavy cheeses, too much salt and grease, bordering on mall food. Wine and whiskey servings rigidly measured amounts. Very disconcerting, to have to pay double for a two oz whiskey verses a standard one oz. With their prices far above most other restaurants, its seems petty for them to charge double for a the same drink and same amount served in most other places."

  • "We had a great date night at The Tavern! We chose the Sirloin Sashimi for the appetizer, which was wonderful. The lentil spread that is served with the bread is also delicious! For our main course, I had the Edie's Striped Bass- highly recommend it! My boyfriend had the 12-ounce NY strip, which was a little undercooked but fine for him. We had the Tavern Fried Potatoes and Grilled Asparagus as sides, and both were really good. Our server was pretty attentive, and we enjoyed the ambiance- not too loud, decorated very pretty, and dimly lit. Be sure to book a reservation in advance as they have seem to book up fast!"

The food was excellent along with a very complete wine list and someone who knew something about it. I had a steak and my girlfriend had the duck. She raved about how good hers was and mine was excellent. They didn't rush us at all, to the point that if we'd been in a hurry (why would you be in a place like this) it would have seemed like the service was slow. I think they knew what they were doing and we appreciated the server, the excellent staff, the ambience and the food. We will go back."

  • "We have been to Tavern several times and always hope we finally understand the good reviews. We are giving up. In comparison to other high end steak places, Tavern does not come close. The wine list is very pricey as is the food. However, the food is just average. Service and atmosphere are well done but these do not compensate for the short comings. Dinner for 4 with salad, steak a a lesser bottle of wine and shared sides was $350 with no dessert or coffee. The worst part is the consistent problem with parking and the condition in the parking area. With no valet we find ourselves driving around and navigating through piles of snow even when you are dropped off. Ruth's chris does a superior job with better food, wine, service and parking."

  • "We've been dining at Tavern for many years. Where else could you find a local gem with this much going for it? You won't. The kitchen turns out very consistent dishes. The service is always great. The great bar combined with the downstairs lounge and upstairs full dining is a combination hard to beat anywhere. The last time I saw a wine list this deep locally was at Le Francais, yet there are some bargains to be found on it. We never wait for our reservation. For special occasions, a special treat, and especially holiday time, it's always been our go to spot."

  • "Our food was fantastic. You have to try the Organic Uruguayan beef steak. It melts in your mouth. Their presentation for the smoked salmon was very original.
