The Tavern Kitchen and BarYum!Great place! The entree samplers are a great way to taste several menu items. Desserts were amazing too!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA terrific restaurant! We came to The Tavern for our first visit on Mother's Day. After reading the reviews on Urban Spoon, I was a little concerned. But I must say, it was an outstanding! Everything was terrific, from our server to our food. Danny was our server and he was outgoing, thorough and very knowledgable. Our food was great, and the parmesan bread was delicious. I can't wait to come back. The only negative is the location. I wish there was The Tavern closer in to the city. But I will say it is worth the drive.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat little touchesWe had a great dinner at The Tavern Kitchen and Bar. It was our first visit and we will be back. The first great touch was the offer of a black napkin to replace the white ones on the table. My wife had black slacks on and it was noted that the napkins sometimes leave lint. First time we have seen that! Alex was our waiter and he was excellent. We were in no hury and started with the Ahi Poke, a great fresh dish. We both had one of the tasting boards which allow you to try several of the dishes in smaller plates. All with differing finishes, showing more great touches from the kitchen Both were outstanding and fun to share. Next time we may try the Chefs Counter which are counter seats overlooking the kitchen. Overall a wonderful evening.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat hidden spotYou wouldn't expect to find a restaurant of this quality in this location, but I have brought many people here and they have all been pleasantly surprised.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday CelebrationThe two of us arrived earlier than our reservation and we started our birthday celbration at the bar. The attention we received from the bar staff was perfect. And the wine selections were certainly broad enough for our palates.
The Dinner menu was so interesting it took awhile to absorb the variety and make a selection, but our waitress Sarah was very helpful in guiding us. Prior to our entres arriving we were given a "compliments from the chef" edamame which had a wonderful seasoning. We chose meatloaf and potatoes as one entres and the other JH's seafood trio (grouper, mahi mahi, and ahi). All prepared with the perfect complimentary sauces/seasonings. The presentation also made it even more delectable.
We will return!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is very good althoughThe food is very good although a bit pricy. $36 for a medium sized Halibut entree.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was wonderful.Everything was wonderful. It was my wife's Birthday and everyone came by and wished her Happy Birthday. Food was great!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMExceeded All ExpectationsAlthough a little pricey, The Tavern is well worth it. Starts off with Parmesan bread which was outstanding. Went with waitress' recommendation, which was a great move, selecting a dish I would have overlooked...Flounder Imperial. The chef has that uncanny ability of combining foods to create a unique flavor. Everything was outstanding! Highly recommend The Tavern for anyone for a special meal.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic find!Fantastic food in every way. One of the best restaurants I've eaten at in years anywhere and I eat at restaurants all over the US regularly. I ate here for my birthday on a Sunday and was amazed by their prix fixe menu for $30, which was the most generous options and portions I've encountered.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMService was prompt and veryService was prompt and very informative. Excellent variety. Food was really good.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBar needs to pay attentionBar needs to pay attention to people waiting for tables there's a problem getting a drink don't let that stop you food service fantastic4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA nice findThis was our 2nd visit and we we're very impressed overall. No notable shortcomings, excellent staff & service, high quality, creative preparations, & a wide range of choices. We'll bring friends who enjoy a vibrant atmoshpere & appreciate good food.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome But Open Up the WalletOutstanding, creative food that wows every time. Any fish dish will be one of the best you've had. The quality and flavors however match the price. For my party of 2 adults and 1 child the total bill came in at over $180 - two cocktails and 2 glasses of wine (no bottle of wine) with 1 salad and 2 entries for the adults, 1 appetizer for the child, and 1 dessert. Here's the problem, the fish entries are around $36. Add in tax and tip and your looking at nearly a $50 plate of halibut. That's pretty steep. We live in Valley Park and really want to support The Tavern Kitchen and Bar. Fortunately my family can afford a bill like this and we'd eat there a lot more but the value equation isn't as favorable as many other great restaurants in STL..4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother Great evening at TheAnother Great evening at The Tavern!!!! Awesome food and excellent service with a smile!!!! Can't wait to go again soon!!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the dining experience.Loved the dining experience. Can't wait to go again!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMoverallbeing from philly this is now my second favorite restaurant in st louis . my fourth visit there was the best ,, would have been excellent except server a little to slow with dessert. but food is absolutely the best ,, there chef should receive honors above and beyond for the food is truly what sets this place apart in all of stl....thanks4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThanks - had guest from FloridaThanks - had guest from Florida who loved the experience.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe made our second trip toWe made our second trip to Tavern recently after a stellar first experience. The food and service are great. The patrons always seem to be enjoying the atmosphere and food as much as we have. The plank option on the menu, which we share with sides and/or starter, allows a great sampling of their very good food. Tavern is a foodie's place, with a nice environment, but no pretense. We will return.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant, by far, isThis restaurant, by far, is a 5 star. Food, service and entire experience is one of the best I've had in St. Louis in a long time.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThey recently changed theThey recently changed the menu and we found what we ordered to be fantastic. You will be surprised if you order a trio plate how much food you get and how fun. Where else can you go and taste 3 or 4 things off a menu on one plate! The real problem is you definately can not get in without a reservation on the weekend. Week days is your best bet if you don't plan very far out.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing FoodI've been to this restaurant twice. The service was great each time and the food was unique and tasted great. There's no other restaurant I've been to that's like it. If you're looking for a unique food experience, this is the place to go. You have to order their deserts early, because they make them fresh. That's right, freshly made deserts. Their fish selection is also top notch.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome food, and our serverAwesome food, and our server was the best I have had anywhere in a LONG time.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen stating I would orderWhen stating I would order whatever the chef would recommend to his parents that evening, the chef came to the table and we had a wonderful conversation. Said his mom could not eat scallops, but he recommended the scallops and pork belly. It was superb! Came back later to talk some more. We had a wonderful evening. Very interesting food creations. Attentive staff.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding dining experienceThe Tavern is a true gem in the middle of an ugly strip mall. I love to take family and friends here. They are always impressed and delighted in all the options the Tavern has to offer. The wait staff is incredibly helpful in describing dishes and making suggestions. My favorite detail about The Tavern is their dessert ordering process. Shortly after your main course arrives they will ask if you would like dessert because they bake them fresh and take about 20 minutes. It is a true dining experience but it relaxed enough for any diner.
Oh, and if you like to use a lot of plates, this place is definitely for you.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFood continues to be innovative,Food continues to be innovative, but on this visit, the chef was way too heavy handed with the salt on entree and sides. Dessert still a special treat.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great time with friends.Had a great time with friends. Staff very friendly and serving.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an excellent time forWe had an excellent time for our anniversary dinner at The Tavern Kitchen and Bar. The service was perfect. Ben was our server and he was very knowledgeable, professional, personable and attentive. We sat at the Chef's Counter (we're both foodies) and it was great to watch the kitchen work so seamlessly together. They would chat with us from time to time and even answered my curious questions. Since this was our first visit we both ordered a Tasting Board. Everything was wonderful. I highly recommend and can't wait to go again.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe took our family to celebrateWe took our family to celebrate a retirement and a birthday. It was fantastic. The server was the best we ever had. The food was unbelievably good. My husband and I both thnink it is the best restaurant in St. Louis!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed our experience! ItEnjoyed our experience! It was a special occasion for us. Service was friendly, informative, and timely. Two of our dinners were wonderful, but a hamburger was served rare to medium rare, when ordered medium. Also, hamburgers in the past came with a small order of fries, but we discovered all side dishes now are extra.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExemplary service. JoshuaExemplary service. Joshua was very attentive and knowledgeable. Plenty of staff to fill the gaps when he was elsewhere. Food was so flavorful and well-prepared. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, including my father-in-law, who is usually picky and hard-to-please.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSo excited to have finallySo excited to have finally eaten at the Tavern. It was awesome! We will definitely retun!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGREAT findWe had an outstanding experience and love this restaurant. We ordered two different ones so that we could sample a variety of menu options. All of them were fabulous but the Filet Loco Moco and Ahi Tuna were outstanding.. The Trio of Sides was the perfect size to share. Several items were served in cast iron dishes which kept the food hot. We will definitely go back.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is fourth time I haveThis is fourth time I have taken friends to this restaurant and they all have loved it! This time it was a birthday party for a friend. They even put a candle on her dessert which was yummy! Best St. Louis Restaurant!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA nice find for usMy girl's oak plank was really unique and delicious. The burger (which I was craving) was good-but not great. The service was outstanding; Ernest (our waiter) was just perfect, personable and full of energy, with just the right amount opinion and a terrific sense of humor. The atmosphere was very engaging, and the drink selections were plenty, unlike many places which seem to be all the same.
We will certainly be back.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our 4th trip andThis was our 4th trip and the food has been outstanding on every visit!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMPresentation and taste ofPresentation and taste of the food was exceptional. Service was great. Drinks were topped off before they bece empty and plates were removed upon finishing your food. Dinner for two with a bottle of wine $125 a little pricey but worth it.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great and theThe food was great and the service outstanding, however the noise level was distracting and made it difficult to have a conversation with my wife who was sitting across from me.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was fabulous! I hadThe food was fabulous! I had their oak plank tasting board and my partner had the seafood trio tasting board. Portions were generous, and the tasting board allowed us to have a little bit of everything they offered on their menu. The warm atmosphere made it the perfect place for a semi-casual Friday night date. We will definitely be returning, and I highly recommend their half-baked chocolate chip cookie topped with peanut butter ice cream.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was excellent!Everything was excellent! Even had a birthday treat of cinnamon donuts for dessert!3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMEveryone at our table hadEveryone at our table had a wonderful meal - can't wait to go back.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMLove The Tavern!! We go thereLove The Tavern!! We go there regularly and will continue to do so!!! They do amazing things with bacon!3/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food here is consistantlyThe food here is consistantly great. From begining to Great deserts warm served in small iron skillets.2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA Pleasant SurpriseAs city-dwellers, we were not sold on a suburban restaurant in a strip-mall. But the Tavern, once we were inside, was as tasteful as a high-end NYC establishment. The by-the-glass wine list was unexpectedly good, and every dish (gnudi with ox-tail ragout, a perfect filet with mushroom sauce plus jasmine rice and a fried egg) was truly delicious. The made-to-order dessert (carrot cake with cream-and-praline ice cream) was also a treat. There were a couple of serving glitches (a long wait for appetizers and dessert, but entrees served almost on top of the appetizers), but these might be chalked up to a less-staffed Sunday evening. All in all, very highly-recommended.11/18/2012 12:00:00 AM
