  • "Good food and service, however, we sat in the area near the open kitchen and it was very loud, rather warm, and the smells were too much. If you think that may bother you, reserve a table in the back part of the restaurant."

  • "I thought the food was good but very over priced. I ordered the Scallop dinner and received 3 scallops. The dish had pork belly on it. It was cut the same size as the scallops to make it appear that there were 6 scallops when 3 of them were pork fat. The dish came with Brussels sprouts. I received the equivalent of 1 shredded Brussels sprout. This dish was $29.00. I will not return."

Food and server were great. Only hiccup was at the hostess stand as they did not match our attendance with the Open Table reservation - even after reminding them (small price to pay)."

  • "I took my parents to The Tavern Kitchen and Bar for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. None of us had evern been before but we had heard really good things. The menu had just enough food choices that we were not overwhelmed and each dish ordered was EXCELLENT. The service was top notch. The only problem was in hearing our server clearly due to the noise level. I had reserved my table on line with a note about this being my parents 50th anniversary. My parents were each given a glass of champaigne when they sat down and everyone from the manager to the busboy wished them a Happy Anniversary. It was so nice and helped make the night even more special. I will definitely return to The Tavern Kitchen and Bar again."

  • "We were a party of two and had made a reservation. We arrived earlier than we had planned and let the hostess know to see if we could be seated beforehand since there was a table for two available. They made us wait and the table stayed empty. The waitress explained the menu afterwhich she disappeared for a long time. We ordered the ricotta gnudi and after a 30 min it arrived cold. The portion was much smaller than I had imagined. After waiting about 10 more min for the her to come back we ordered. I had the mahi mahi dish that is on the regular menu. When that arrived I was extremly ddissatisfied. You could not taste the fish. You could only taste sauce. Chicken for that plating would have been a better choice."

  • "The Tavern is the BEST fine-dining experience in West County here in St. Louis. Chef Justin & his staff are professionals at what they do…& EVERYTHING they do is done at a high level. Even though it can be a little pricey, every bite is worth it! We actually had the Imperial Filet Special on this occassion (our Anniversary) & it was top-notch! Kudos to The Tavern!!!!"

  • "This was our second time at the Tavern. Both times we have been very impressed with the staff. They are so attentive and friendly. Our server, Jonathan, was excellent. He met our every need. The food is always a dining experience and an adventure. It is a priced higher than what we usually spend, so we save it for special occasions. But, we hope to return again some day."

  • "I travel extensively and do business in the St. Louis area on a quarterly basis. I have had the pleasure to eat at Tavern Kitchen and Bar now 3 times in the last 18 months. The food is not only delicious but the presentation is fun and always creative. I highly recommend the Tasting Boards for a selection of either meats or seafood or both. I had the Filet Trio this go around and all 3 were cooked to perfection. Also, try sitting at the bar that looks directly into the kitchen. You can always take comfort when a restaurant is willing to let you sit and watch them prepare your meals right in front of you. Cheers!"

  • "First time at Tavern was one of the best meals I have had. Expensive, but worth it. Second time was the exact opposite for the same price. Everyone can mess up so we decided to go again. Service was fine, but the food was so so at best again. The pairing of sides with the special made no sense and the fish I had was greasy and not cooked well. If I were out spending $30 for a burger meal this would have been fine, but $120-$140 I expect a whole lot more. Won't be a forth time."

We actually ordered all of the appetizers as our dinner as well as the asparagus with the most delicious shaved ham and a fried egg on top. The hoison ribs and the chorizo and shrimp dishes all excelled but everything was creative and yummy. "

  • "Jason, our server, was perfect. Very informative, timely, personable -- an excellent job overall. Our group of 6 is high maintenance but Jason took care of everything. The manager even visited a few times to make sure we we're comfortable with the temperature of the room. It was a hot evening, but he did what he could to keep us cool. One thing that stood out was Jason's extra care regarding a food allergy one of our diners has. Jason made safe recommendations, double-checked with the chef, gently warned my brother-in-law not to taste any other dishes order by the rest of us that may have the offending ingredient AND put a note of the allergy on the ticket/receipt -- more attention & care than we've seen before. "

  • "This was our first time to this restaurant so didn't know what to expect. To say our expectations were surpassed is an understatement. Everyone at the restaurant was very friendly. We were seated promptly and they immediately brought out water and warm parmesan pull apart rolls that were incredible. Our server was so nice and very attentive to our needs. I had the seafood taste trio and the restaurant was very accommodating in substituting one of the items due to my dietary restrictions. The fish was cooked impeccably and the avocado puree was the best I ever had. My fellow diner had the cheeseburger. It is wonderful to find a restaurant that has well seasoned and gourmet dishes but still have something simple for other diners. "

  • "This was our second trip to the Tavern and we were wowed again. The food is a great take on Hawaiian fusion meets the Midwest. The boards are a wonderful way to get tastes of many wonderful dishes. The wait staff were excellent, you got the feeling that they enjoy working there as part if the Tavern Ohana (family). This will not be our last visit and we want to check out Chef Justin's newer place in the Central West End."

  • "The Tavern has become our go-to place for entertaining friends, before the theater dinner, or just a relaxing, romantic dinner for two. Outstanding seafood with the trout my favorite, but this night the beef filet was the special so I took a chance and it was excellent as well. The bar knows how to make a true Manhattan which just adds to the lure of dining here frequently."
