Diner Reviews
  • "I have been several times now. Have never been disappointed and I have ordered a variety of things. The planks are my favorite. They are all delicious but if I have to pick a favorite, it would be the beef trio ( can't remember it's menu name). I like that I can order "good" wine by the glass, too. Always leave a little room for dessert! If you are thinking about this restaurant, stop thinking and GO! "

  • "Went with a customer for the first time. What a gem hidden in Valley Park. I really liked the various 'plank' meals that you could order that had samples of the various entrees - almost like having several small plates for your meal. I would definitely go again!"

  • "Took my in-laws who live out of town on the East Coast. They were impressed and everyone had a wonderful meal. Tasting board was great. Loved the seared ahi and never thought I would say that. Service was excellent! Highly recommend!!"

  • "From the moment of arrival the staff greeted our party and helped us throughout the dinning experience. Our hats are off to the professional development team that has oriented the staff."

  • "The Tavern is a top notch restaurant here in StL and one of the best options available if you're looking for a great restaurant in the southwest part of town. The food is inspired and the service impeccable- one of the best places to find fresh caught seafood with several preparation options. For those who just can't decide, they offer multi-entree tasting plates that offer nice portions of several items. We like to dine at the high tops in the bar area but you won't be disappointed regardless of seating preference. I highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "My wife and I hadn't visited The Tavern in quite some time. From beginning to end, the experience couldn't have been better. Granted, the place wasn't packed but was busy. We were there on a Sunday evening. The atmosphere was relaxed and the noise level was low which allowed for easy conversation across the table. Our meals were superb, and as good as our food was, the service was its equal. Our server was knowledgeable and offered suggestions that didn't sound like a sales pitch. The corkage fee is reasonable ($15), so you can enjoy your favorite wines. Excellent experience!"

  • "We each had seafood, which was some of the best we have had in St Louis. The tasting boards were excellent, and a good way to taste multiple foods."

  • "You can always count on The Tavern to deliver great seafood expertly prepared. They are always busy and for good reason as this is one of the best places in greater St. Louis."

  • "We enjoyed everything about this restaurant, from the friendly greetings from the staff when we entered to the thank yous when we departed. Service was outstanding, the food amazing and the cocktails were wonderful. The Tavern K & B knows how to treat a customer, which is lacking in so many establishments today. It has been a long time since we enjoyed a dining experience so much. We had an iceberg salad which they split for us, a seafood plank and oak plank which was nice to experience a selection of dishes, enjoyed all the selections and salad was very flavorful. We were not rushed and enjoyed the evening. We will be returning and recommend The Tavern K & B to many."

  • "Great menu. I recommend the "tasting boards" for a sampling of four dishes. Appropriately-sized for one. I'll be back. Thoughtful wine list and beer choices. Wonderful service. What's not to like?"

  • "Booked a reservation here for my wife's birthday. We were under the gun for time and we live less than a mile away. So it was a great time to try it out. We've been here several times before, but only for drinks and the occasional dessert. So, we were pretty excited to try it out for dinner. The food was fantastic, but we ate too heavy (our fault). We started off with one of their app plates (JH Classic). It was very well done. The Foie Pockets were a bit lacking. Foie Gras and truffle flavors didn't really come through for me. From there we had salad and split the Filet Imperial (off menu). The Filet Imperial needs to be broken down: Filet topped with lump crab meat in a shallow pool of lobster bisque. It was incredible."

  • "I truly think this is my favorite restaurant! Best food in St. Louis!!"

  • "The food and service were very good. My only complaint is that everything comes out a little too quickly so that the meal always seems to go too fast. I would recommend this place to friends but almost every time I go to the tavern I feel like things were a little to rushed."

  • "Everything was wonderful - great menu and friendly staff! The fresh halibut was fab & the salad was just different enough to be interesting...loved the kalamata olive dressing!"

  • "We were seated in the side room and found it to have a lower noise level which we liked. Had seafood dish with variety of seafood and mahi mahi with coconut curry sauce. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and delicious. Special requests were met without any problem like not using butter, cream, or salt in my dishes. All personnel were attentive and checked on us as to how our meals were. Would definitely recommend."

  • "As always great fish at The Tavern. Had the halibut prepared as recommended by our server and he was right Generous delicious martini to start. Desserts were worth the wait, especially chocolate chip cookie with ice cream"

  • "This restaurant was a great find for me who is not native to the St. Louis area. In town just for a week, I looked at restaurants on the Top 50 restaurants list in St. Louis from 2012 to select a restaurant. To my surprise, the ambiance, atmosphere, service, and food were all well beyond expectation. The tasting boards were an excellent value, perfect to share as well for a "little bit of everything". This brought my special occasion to the next level for a perfect date. We were ready to be rolled right out the door, wheelbarrow and all."

  • "Best meal I've had in a long time! Service was wonderful and each course was delicious...from the pull apart bread to the delicious cookie dessert!"

  • "The best thing about our visit was a serving of warm Parmesan bread. My seafood sampler was ok. Soup served with entree required choice between hot soup or hot food. Scallop came with good salsa. Lobster ravioli lost its lobster and substituted cilantro. Salmon was boring and dry. Trout was excellent but no evidence of lemon in the lemon butter sauce. Asparagus was unexpectedly cut into small pieces. Side of Brussels sprouts was small, too oily and a poor value. Prices are up, side room ambience was poor. Our waitress was capable but too much of the wait staff appeared to be earnest high schoolers. We've tried and like Justin's new restaurant in the west end. The Tavern misses his presence."

  • "NO matter how many times I visit The Tavern, the staff is A-1 courteous, remembers faces and names, customer conscious of every detail needed and makes dining enjoyable. The menu selections are tough to decide, since every thing is delicious and the presentation is delightful to the palette. Anytime we have an occasion, friends in town, groups want to pick a place..... THE TAVERN is our choice."

  • "We had a great dinner and for a change, they didn't run out of grouper or halibut before we ordered which happens almost every time we are there. The lobster ravioli appetizer was excellent as was the grouper. But the service is always rushed. Just after we had finished our appetizers, they are bringing out the entrees. Is there a fire in the building? This is a common occurrence at the restaurant. They don't get the cadence of serving a table. The other common issue they have is with some entrees being served cold, while others are hot. So it appears the kitchen has an issue with timing. This time our grouper was brought out very hot but a little rushed."

  • "This was our first time to Tavern, the service was impeccable, very friendly and helpful staff. Food was great, prepared very well, but just a heads up, portions were not generous for the price. It's not a huge place, but the noise level was not bad at all. Dessert - incredible! I would go back for another visit, just to try another of the desserts."

  • "I had driven by this place, located in a nondescript strip mall several times. At a friend's suggestion, decided to check it out. They have a good wine list as well as a decent selection of beers. I believe the founder/chef has moved on, but the food quality is still very good. I had the bass stuffed with crab meat. The tomato based sauce was delectable. My companion had the filet, which was excellent. The waiter was knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions. The noise level was a tad high, but one could still converse normally. All in all, a great find."
