Diner Reviews
  • "It was a girls night dinner and we needed to find an in the middle place to meet. We selected Fort Worth where I found great reviews for The Tavern. We had dinner at The Tavern and what a wonderful restaurant. I can't say enough good things about this place from the food to the service. I would highly recommend The Tavern to anyone. And now I plan to bring my husband the next time, because it's worth the trip from Frisco."

  • "We love the special discounted appetizer available in the bar, and the drink prices are extremely reasonable also. Good pours, great portions, great service."

  • "We just moved to the area and dined at the Tavern thanks to my brothers rec's. Our server was wonderful and the food was fantastic! I love the fresh foods (no freezer in the place) and the usage of local suppliers. They even make their dressings from scratch everyday. Great food and wine, service was wonderful! We will be back!!"

  • "Our return trip to the Tavern is best described as "consistent" and that means success. The fish tacos and brisket tacos were once again spot on. The new draft beer list provided an opportunity to try something different. The wine list is not extensive, but adequate. Unfortunately, my wife received the last available glass of her favorite Pinot Noir, which should not happen early on a Friday night. Our service was prompt, helpful, and exactly as we have come to expect from the Tavern. The food quality and service keeps us coming back to this great neighborhood restaurant."

  • " Based on several very good dinner experiences, we tried The Tavern for brunch last Sunday. It was good, but not great. The server and other staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was fine. My two complaints were that the food arrival was a bit ragged and my french toast, while very tasty, was not plated very well and was served with a miserly portion of syrup. (Our server cheerfully brought more, but the kitchen should have sent out an adequate amount in the first place). Also, my seat, which faced the window, was rather glarey such that the people across from me were backlit. The truth is though, finding good quality brunch spots that can deliver accurate and coordinated food is not an easy order."

  • "We had a group of 6 for Sunday evening. Service was friendly but not very organized. They were out of some pork and beef options so we were met with a challenge for ordering. Drink service was a bit slow and we were starting to worry that this was a bad choice but when the food came we were very happy we came. Th food made up for everything. I will happily recommend this place to my friends."

  • "Excellent food! Worth the trip across town. The German chocolate cake was the best we've ever had. Ambience is very nice, not stuffy or overdone."

  • "First of all their mimosas are delicious! Made with freshly squeezed oranges. This time I had the ahi tuna salad and it was amazing! It was a very delicious blend of fresh fruit and veggies. I will definitely go back for that one!"

  • "Went there on a Friday night... the table behind us was so noisy. Almost to the point of being rowdy. Took 40 minutes to receive our food."

  • "Great crab cake salad we get that every time we visit and are never disappointed."

  • "My first negative review! We tried this place on Wed at 6 PM - not rush hour. We were hoping for a hidden gem but found nothing but Ho Hum. College dorm interiors - - it screams we don't care. The service was untrained. We ordered a nice bottle of Cab first. Our lukewarm nacho appetizer was delivered by someone else, well before our wine ( we don't care). Our entrees were nothing more than adequate (we don't care). When we requested a fresh fork between courses - we were given another rolled napkin - twice - I ended up with 3 napkins and 3 knives (we don't care). They need a manager/team that cares and can lead - they are not BAD - just mediocre at best. Open Table's review word limit keeps me from telling the rest of the story."

  • "We have been customers and fans of the Tavern for a long time. Unfortunately we had our worse experience recently because of a poorly trained distracted waiter. He forgot completely our to go order which delayed our departure by 25 min after we had finished and he would disappear for extended periods which was very frustrating and odd. We told the manager on duty our disappointment and she seemed to be overwhelmed and lacked training on how to resolve our situation. A no brainer a portion of our meal should have been free for all our trouble. We will go back but not anytime soon. "

  • "We went here for Mothers Day and had a great meal. They were a little backed up due to high volume but the food was served hot the wait staff were doing their best. The CAST IRON SKILLET CORNBREAD starter was amazing as was the CRAB CAKE! Will visit again!!"

  • "Want great casual dining? Look no further than The Tavern. Its our go-to spot for great food and service. The fish or brisket tacos are outstanding and have a nice kick. One of their craft beers on tap will make a great pairing. Another great choice is the chicken enchilada (huge) which is as good as any local Tex Mex offering. The outdoor dining was perfect for our last visit, but the Hulen Street traffic noise can be a little distracting at times. "

  • "Normally I'm crazy about any item I choose at the Tavern but I tried the Ahi Burger and found it most unsatisfactory plus the bun, normally fresh & moist, was dry. Asked right off for some mustard & waiter finally delivered it when I had 2 bites left"

  • "Arrived on time for our Easter lunch. The noise level was a bit too energetic for our party of 5 so we waited until an outdoor table was available. Waiter was very accomodating without being annoying. He didnt ask us about dessert, but we made sure we got a couple ordered. Fabulous Key Lime pie!! This was our first time to visit The Tavern and I have to say, we really enjoyed the food. The corn bread is to die for!!"

  • "I had the crab cake salad and it was the best crab cake I've ever had! Lots of lump crab meat, light on the breading-perfect! And the salad it is served with is also delicious. "

  • "We have a Happy Hour group of 8 that try different spots on Friday nights. We have been to the Tavern several times. It is always a joy if we can get into the bar area. They offer Happy Hour specials in the bar area only so it's kind of a challenge. This week it worked perfectly! We will for sure return."

  • "My fourth time to dine here. The Lamb Shank was exceptional. We have also had brunch as well which exceeded all our expectations"

  • "This is our favorite go-to fresh dinner resturant. They don't have a freezer, so freshness is a must. They have gluten free fish tacos that are wonderful! I can even turn it paleo by substituting the rice/beans for roasted acorn squash. If anyone asks us where to go for a casual atmosphere, not fast food, good wine/beer...we always say The Tavern!"

  • "My teen daughter is now a "pescatarian" so we are always looking for restaurants that offer fish and seafood options. I'm a carnivore and my wife is a salad person. The Tavern menu is not overwhelminly big but it brings very interesting dishes: from the skillet cornbread appetizer to the tuna burger or the slow cooked beef rib, everything was fresh, nicely prepared and delicious. This restaurant is already in our favs list! And we will come back again."

  • "This place has not disappointed yet and I we have been there 3 times in the last few months. My favorite dish is the Texas Pork Ribs, but really you can't go wrong with any of the items."
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "Another trip to The Tavern with friends exemplified the consistency of this restaurants great food and service. Motivated by the need for Lenten fish, our wives had fish tacos that were prepared perfectly. My best friend and I opted for the Mexico City Enchilada. While not a Mexican restaurant, we agreed that our entree was as good or better than those served at some of Fort Worth's better known Tex Mex establishments. The Tavern gets the chicken enchilada right with some flare! The wine selection is adequate to please most patrons and the beer selection is accented with variety. I had a new tap selection - Vanilla Porter, which was outstanding. Before selection, our attentive waitress provided me a sample. Dining doesn't get much better."

  • "It was recommend to us which I was skeptical about since it's not in a vibrant location surrounded by other good restaurants. We were pleasantly surprised. The good was delicious, my husband got the pork ribs --fell off the bone easily, great flavor, and a nice side of thin crunchy fries. I got the brisket tacos and they were the most flavorful tacos I've had in a while - marinated meat, great rice and beans and a delicious sauce that gave it a kick. We also got the keylime pie and it was pretty good as well -- just too big (and thus pricey). The server was nice, we didn't feel rushed but we sat by the bar and it was so crowded I was someone else's bottom almost in my face. I decided to not let it bother me and rather see it as comical."

  • "My husband and I really enjoy the brunch. This time I tried the soup of the day: artichoke and mushroom. This sounds crazy but let me tell you it was awesome! Try it if they have it!!!"

  • "The experience was positively delightful! My fish tacos were heaven sent!"

  • "The food was outstanding. The atmosphere was more like a sports bar. The service was so-so... The waiter/waitresses did seem too engaged. My wife and I love that the vegetables and foods are organic."

  • "Late planning on my part left me with The Tavern as an unknown choice on Valentines Day. I took a chance and found this to be exactly what I was looking for. It had just enough atmosphere to keep my second date with this lady from being too romantic while still having a cozy feel. Food was excellent and wait staff could not have been better. They are well trained and have a team attitude without leaving you wondering who your waiter is."

  • "While the service was great, the food was not worth the money, and you practically had to yell across the table to talk with the people you are eating with."
