Diner Reviews
  • "The Diamond Mills is by far my favorite restaurant n the area. Weather I am dining in the elegant dining room or in the cozy tavern bar,I have a wonderful experience. The food is amazing and freshly prepared, the service is outstanding, respectful and friendly. The bartender is an amazing mixologist! The price of each delicious meal reflects the care and quality of its preparation and service. I also appreciate the simple elegance of the place settings and glassware."

  • "the food is good but when we ate there, they seemed to be badly understaffed. Nobody checked to see if we wanted more drinks or water re-fills and things took a long time to arrive I would not return"

  • "Went during Restaurant Week for lunch. Cannot say that anything could be better. There has been a huge change in the quality of the personnel working here starting at the front door with the hostess and continuing throughout the meal. Waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the wine and beers on offer. The quality and presentation of the meals was excellent. There was follow through during the meal to make sure that everything was okay. Can't wait to return during the warmer weather and have a meal on the deck overlooking the waterfalls."

  • "I received a message from opentable and saw listing about Hudson Valley restaurant event. Decided to plan a quick overnight trip to The Tavern at Diamond Mills and Hotel. Food was amazing! Service was top notch and the accommodations at hotel were excellent. Dinner was a four course meal package and everything served was delicious. Margarita flat bread was perfectly crisp. Lobster corn chowder was a great suggestion and the bacon wrapped filet mignon exploded with flavor. All food was plated as if I was going to photograph it before eating it. Great time spent at this establishment."

  • "I came here in the fall for Hudson Valley Restaurant Week and had the most amazing experience. Food was superb and our waiter was outstanding. I had really been looking forward to coming back. However when we visited this past week, the service wasn't that great and the food really didn't have any flavor to it. I was really disappointed."

  • "Once again Diamond Mills has provided us with a truly outstanding meal and evening. The pea soup was delightfully refreshing. The spinach salad was fresh and dressed to perfection. The poached chicken with spring vegetables was juicy and very flavorful. My companions scallops were lucious and cooked just right. Our tart and tort were heavenly with lovely accents of fresh berries and ice cream. We chose the wine pairing with each course and were very pleased with their selections. The service was outstanding and very friendly."

  • "We enjoyed the whole experience with our group of 10 going there for the first time! We had a nice room all to ourselves with a beautiful view of the outdoors, and inside a fireplace going on a chilly night! A great time was had by all! Definately going to return and try some more of the menu."

  • "After dining at Diamond Mills last Thanksgiving, we decided to hold our daughter's wedding reception there in 2015. We returned there this past Saturday, to take advantage of Restaurant Week for lunch. Again, it was OUTSTANDING in every way! I put that on your Facebook site, as well as my own. You just can't get any better. Every member of the staff does an "above average" job. The place is spotless. You receive very specialized attention and the food........ well, we are so incredibly fortunate to have Chef Giuseppe Napoli creating these culinary celebrations of the palate! Thank you for bringing this wonderful place to our Valley..... we can't wait for our family and friends to be able to enjoy it as much as we do, next year!"

  • "Waited 20+ minutes for anyone to come over with even a glass if water. We were just about to get up and leave when we said something to the hostess. Finally got a waitress and the good was fair - average With so many good restaurants in the Hudson valley, dint waste your money unless all you're looking for is a view. Will not go back!"

  • "Requested a table by the window and ended up squished by a door in a corner. I"m not sure why that happened as it wasn't very busy. The oysters were top notch. I know it might sound passé, but I would have liked cocktail sauce. Tarter sauce and fresh oysters didn't make much sense. A heavy mayonnaise based sauce with the delicate texture and taste of an oyster…well, anyway, oysters were great. I got a salmon dish. I could have sworn it said the salmon was seared but the texture would suggest that it was poached. While I prefer my salmon rare and this was cooked through, it was still very delicate. My guest ordered the scallops. While they were excellent, she was still hungry when she finished."

  • "Upon arriving we were told it would be a few minutes for our table to be ready and would we like to wait in the bar. No problem, not in a big hurry so we went in, found a couple of seats and had a glass of wine each. 15 minutes after our reservation time, I checked with the hostess and was told they were setting our table up. It took 10 minutes to get the bartender to close out my tab so I could join my wife at the table. When seated we ordered and then sat there waiting for anything....a drink, a bread basket, another server, any thing or anyone....after 30 minutes we decided to leave...surprise...as we were putting our coats on the waiter showed up, but without any drinks or food. The only response when we said cancel the order, "Sorry""

  • "have had some excellent experiences here, but some disappointing ones too. the issues have mostly been service related - their food is always good, but the service is not consistent and staff often seems inexperienced"

  • "Slow Sunday weren't many folks in. Food was good except main dishes. risotto just a bit under done. Bacon wrapped Filet a bit past medium rare and the bacon used was very salty and overpowered/transferred to the beef. Loved the lobster chowder, loved the wine, loved the service. The staff was great, the menu has a nice range for us locals who want to come in for a lighter (cheaper) night and a drink . Looking forward to coming back in the spring for outdoor dining."

  • "The food, service and physical amenities are very nice. We are fortunate tom have a facility of this quality and size in the Kingston, Saugerties area. I would certainly return for any occasion, especially in the warm weather. An observation, if I may.... The grounds are not well landscaped, especially the view of the rear of the facility from the terrace ...seeing a sewer drain pipe is not inviting when one is in a restaurant.... Perhaps some trees and plantings could improve the view....."

  • "This hidden gem I highly recommend! I have dined in for brunch, lunch and dinner at the Tavern over the past year. Consistent great service, knowledgeable staff plus a beautiful location makes this an easy place to visit for any meal with family and friends."

  • "Diamond Mills offers fine dining in a lovely setting. I would describe the decor as minimalist, elegant, and comfortable. While our visit was on a dark winter evening, we are very familiar with the beautiful views the dining room and terrace afford since we live nearby. We were warmly welcomed by the maitre d', and table service was prompt and attentive. (I should point out that it was a Sunday evening and there were only two other couples in the dining room.) The food was outstanding and we were surprised to find that our meal was not as costly as we had expected. There are many good restaurants in the Woodstock/Saugerties area, but for a special event we would certainly recommend The Tavern at Diamond Mills."

  • "We came here for the first time for Valentines Day dinner and ordered off the special menu. I would've preferred to order off the regular menu because some of the choices were odd and didn't compliment each other. Overall, food was tasty (although a little overpriced). I would definitely return to give the regular menu a chance because the setting is incredible."

  • "We have eaten here several times with high hopes that the service and food would be better the next time. This has not happened. Feel that the service was as slow as it was because of lack of staffing and was not the individual server's fault. The atmosphere is lovely so it is a shame that the rest of the experience was not. We will not return."

  • "new years eve was special here. The live pianist set the ambiance and the staff was very accomodating when it came to surprising my girlfriend with some jewelery (I went for the corny waiter-brings-it-over-for-dessert). Food was very tasty, and fresh. and it was a great place to ring in the new year."

  • "I had a marvelous dinner at this restaurant on Thanksgiving. A few months ago , my friends and I had brunch at the tavern and it was wonderful. I was disappointed with the New Years Day Brunch. The eggs benedict, normally one of my favorites, was actually inedible. Other people at the table felt the same way. The egg was hard as a rock. The potatoes were fine and the omelettes were inconsistent. My friend's omelette was runny. (The line for the omelettes was long and took too long)."

  • "My husband and I went to Diamond Mills on Christmas day. They were serving brunch. We had a very good shrimp cocktail and I had the lobster macaroni and cheese with a salad. My husband had a chicken dish with a salad that he said was very good. Everything was delicious. We both had dessert. He had a chocolate cake and I had something with pistacio and chocolate. The food was excellent, the presentation was beautiful and the service was perfect. We had a great time. I think we are going to make this our new tradition for Christmas day."

  • "We were told that our table was not ready and to wait in the bar area. We enjoyed a nice cup of hot apple cider, but it seemed like we waited quite a while. When I went to the hostess desk; they asked me again if I had a reservation. When I told them that we were waiting for a table they were surprised. Apparently they forgot we were waiting and gave our table away. After scrambling, they found us one. The waitstaff was very good, but the food was cold. We started with lobster chowder which was very cold. Moving on to the main course, the food again was good but cold. The room was very nice, but at 39.00 per person; it was not worth it. We will not return for any buffet style event."

  • "Every course, every bite to be savored. Excellent ingredients, beautifully prepared, but unpretentious. Just simply great food. Service is exemplary, and great care is taken from table settings to servings. On a pretty day, sit on the terrace; it is gorgeous (pun intended) out there."

  • "One of my fellow diners was ready "to hate it". Surprise! The food was great. The portions are clearly meant for quality rather than quantity as the entrees come with limited sides, the food was creative and filling. The sauce and the quality of the pasta rivaled any restaurant. The scallops crusted in macadamia nuts turned the "hater" into a lover. The branzino portion was appropriate and the flavor was delicate. The noise level was a bit high and the maître d a bit surly, but overall the experience was lovely. Our service was good and as far as prices, other than the scallops, they were reasonable."

  • "We took advantage of The Hudson Valley Restaurant Week offering and were not disappointed. Our booth-like table overlooked the beautiful Esopus Creek Falls. It was comfortable and serene. The food was delicious and comparable to the CIA, which we often visit. The service was excellent . We loved that they displayed a large vintage photograph of the Diamond Mill Factory , a paper making business that was original to the site. There are various equestian themed paintings and prints on the walls. We will definitly return to this wonderful restaurant. As an aside, we enjoyed a walk through Scenic Hudson's Falling Waters Preserve before lunch. It is stunning!"
