  • "Traveling to Maryland and choice based on Open Table reviews + website, noting the "fresh, local ingredients". On line menu noted updated in November, 2013; surprised at no seasonal changes apple cider, apple salad...heavy entrees..it's Spring in Maryland but menu did not reflect this: Maple Roasted Butternut Squash, Sweet Potato Risotto... Server attentive and efficient, but ultimately surly + dismissive; rushed our decisions for wine and menu selections, rushed meal. Fresh ingredients are used, menu seemed tired. Fuji Apple salad is WAY too sweet; salmon dish, cannellini bean & shrimp ragout, bacon + white wine almost flavorless: omitted the bacon, perhaps this was why. Not worth very steep prices + surly attitude. "

  • "The tasting room was great!!! I do love the pork chops. They are my favorite and the manager was so friendly. I would for sure go back to the tasting room. Are waiter Dave was amazing. I will ask for him everytime I go to the tasting room. I enjoy every minute of it. My best friend love her salmon but the pork chops were so much better.. If u ever go to the tasting room get a white peach sangria and the pork chops and a cheesecake for dessert."

  • "My wife had an excellent streak, recommended by our waiter: tender , tasty, and perfectly prepared medium rare. My choice, cioppino, was not such a positive experience: no flavour , very bland, quantity and quality of seafood OK, but not sufficient to make this a good choice. Restaurant itself was busy, bustling, and lively. Crab dip appetizer was tasty, but extremely rich. I would recommend , but choose your meal carefully. They are best known for their beef."

  • "We arrived a few minutes early and had a drink at the bar. Normally we would sit at the bar but it was packed at 5pm. We were seated at a nice table by the window and the server was very attentive. We were celebrating a birthday and 2 people ordered the filet and 1 the lamb chops. The filets were perfect and lamb chops delicious as well. We did not order desert because we had a birthday cake at home. This is definitely a favorite spot of ours for romantic dinners. A great place to eat in Frederick, MD."

  • "This restaurant was highly recommended for an anniversary dinner. This was not the place for a romantic dinner, the restaurant is vey loud, there are no good seats, and they rushed you in and rushed you out. I'm not exactly sure why the food is so expensive, the food was mediocre, the lamb was tough and dry, and my salmon was very salty. The service was rushed and distracted. We were extremely disappointed, and would not recommend."

  • "I do not know if my experience would be different if not restaurant week, so take with a grain of salt. Food portions were small and, while less costly than a normal menu item, still not inexpensive. Wait staff was unfriendly and seemed hurried. Waiter took drink orders for half the table and then walked away (only 4 people). It remained difficult to get waiter's attention and he did not want to give advice on drinks or food. Seating is very tight as the restaurant itself is very small. That being said, the food was good and the atmosphere (lighting, noise level) was nice. The host greeted us promptly and was very friendly - in sharp contrast to the waiter. I would try it again when it wasn't restaurant week."

  • "Always a pleasure to dine here. Fresh seasonal menu, choices to meet a variety of palates. Duck was recommended and delicious. Server was not as responsive as we would have liked (she left the table before taking everyone's drink order, brought one drink much later than the others, bashed one of the dishes on the menu, etc. Seems to need retraining). Blood orange cocktail was very tasty as was the chocolate dessert which came with three preparations. Overall another very positive experience."

  • "I have visitied the Tasting Room several times in recent years and always enjoyed the food and sinature drinks. However, this year I felt like I was at Volt and wanted to say, "Where's the food?" My husband and I went to dinner but it felt like a tasting. I had the potato leek soup for a started and it was ok. My main course was scallops. When my plate arrived it had 3 small scallops sitting on a paste of some sort and 4 tiny peelings of asparagus. I was very disappointed with the portion. It was delicious but not fitting as a main course. The service was excellent. The entire staff was very pleasant and helpful. I would come back for drinks only."

I mean, we all know it's a cheaper price than one main dish on their very gourmet menu, but really? Three super small scallops on a cocktail plate for my main entree? Not so fabulous as they'd like to think they are."

  • "Went for RW. Unbelievable loud and tables crammed together. I actually watched a diner at the next table walk on the 2 1/2 ft narrow ledge to get out of his seat! Restaurant was cold (I noticed several diners wearing their coats during their meal). Pork lettuce wraps were WAY oversalted. Portions were TINY! 3 scallops for main course... at dinner! Waitress kept reaching over my face to serve my husband, and there was more room on his side to serve so no reason for it. She stuck her arm within two inches of my face multiple times. The waiter was attentive and good tho. Too many negatives to outweigh the mostly good to very good food."

  • "The TR folks consistently provide very good dining experiences, lunch and dinner. Our table in the corner kept us away from much of the "energetic" atmosphere. The tuna appetizer and seared scallop entree were done perfectly. Cannot go wrong with Carol Shelton Wild Thing Zinfandel. Prompt and courteous service at 6PM got us out in time for the concert at 8."

  • "Three of us went for Restaurant week. My Scallops were delicious the other two choices fired chicken and Goulash was nothing special. The regular menu is expensive would rather go to Volt if I am going to go to Frederick for a special meal. Also the Tuna appetizer was very good as well as the leek soup. The Restaurant is very small, so you need to make reservation. Entry you fall right into the restaurant so request to be back of the restaurant when make reservation. The special cocktail menu was very interesting and unusual. I did like the cheese platter for desert it was very good. Please note that portions are small more like Tapas side."

  • "I found the place to be small and crammed with tables. We sat next to the bar area which was overflowing with people who were speaking very loud to each other. My left ear was throbbing and I could not hear my husband trying to have a conversation with me. The food was ok...nothing to write home about. I got the pork chop entrée and that's what I got...a pork chop sitting in a glaze with a few sprinkles of butternut squash."

  • "We had dinner on a weekday night during Frederick's Restaurant Week. Very crowded and noisy. Our server took our order. Our dinners arrived. We each ordered a different entree and were surprised that the size of our main course was quite small. It was quite delicious, as it has been in past visits. Our server disappeared after serving us. She never returned to ask if we needed anything, were enjoying our dinner etc. I had to catch her attention to order coffee. She brought my coffee and did not take any other order at the table. She dropped off the check w/o asking if we needed anything further. She does need to be trained to be more professional. This is a busy, upscale establishment and the service should be commensurate."

  • "We only visit the tasting room once or twice a year for special occasions. And then only for a late lunch. This year as last we visited for my birthday. I can't speak highly enough for the service, the atmosphere and the delicious food. We had an appetizer, entrées plus dessert and coffee. Everything was superb and delicious. The only downside was a person at the next table speaking too loudly and we ordered cheesecake which was sold out. I look forward to my next meal there. I hope I don't have to wait another year."

  • "I've read great reviews for The Tasting Room and was very excited to try it out for our anniversary. The only open reservation was for 9:30 pm which worked for us as we decided to just go out for appetizers, drinks & dessert. We ordered the calamari, shrimp & escargot. The calamari felt like a rubber band in my mouth and the shrimp left a lot to be desired. The rice vinegar ponzu served with the shrimp killed the taste buds. The escargot was the one dish that was enjoyable. Our waitress really killed the rest of our evening. She seemed bothered by our presence, was not at all attentive and came across as quite rude. We decided to skip dessert entirely so we could get out of there and go to a more enjoyable environment."
