Diner Reviews
  • "The food was spectacular. They also have an enormous wine list. The service, however, is what made our experience so great. Our waiter was attentive and friendly and helped us make food and wine decisions (it was our first time there). He really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. The manager was also above and beyond, answering our wine questions and letting us sample a wine. The entire staff made it a joy to be there. We will be back! ...and the bread pudding was delish!"

  • "Had a great dinner with my daughter. Our waiter, Joseph G, explained the dishes and suggested the New World Spain wine flight which complimented my dinner and intoduced me to a wine, Atteca, which I will look for again. The meat and cheese platter was a great start to our evening, followed by a selection of tapas. Spicy shrimp, tuna, lobster skewers and the grilled octopus were all excellent although my daughter thought the octopus stood out. And although they were out of pork belly, the chef prepared a pork tenderloin for us that was outstanding and filled our pork craving and put the exclamation point on a great evening. Can't wait to come back to see what is on the menu next time."

  • "Okay, certainly not bad if you had not been there under the previous ownership/management - it was fantastic with a wide and satisfying menu. St. Augustine is full of okay restaurants that serve food that is beyond the price - unfortunately I now add the Tasting Room to that list. I was so disappointed in the menu, taking friends from out of town there for a special meal, that I almost walked out. We had to order an entrée to split to just be able to meet a minimum tapas experience. Too bad - I wont be going back."

  • "Such a wonderful experience, as always! I highly recommend going on a weekend but plan ahead because it books up. "

  • "The overall experience was okay, but this is definitely not a place for children or teens. To truly enjoy the food here, you should have a strong palate for seafood. Note they don't make any kind of mixed drinks, they only offer fountain drinks and a large wine selection. The dessert was not the best. The chocolate tart was too heavy and the tres leche a wasn't as soft and lucious as a traditional tres leeches dish should be. But if love shellfish and wine, this is the place to go. "

  • "The Tasting Room's name should be changed. It used to be a Tapas bar with great food selection, great entertainment, and a wonderful ambience. They have changed it into basically a restaurant. They removed the big couches that were up close to the musician/band, they brightened the lights, and the COMPLETELY changed the menu! Not sure if they sold the restaurant or what but......this used to be our favorite place in St. Augustine...no more. We will probably not be back. Oh, one last thing. In the mens bathroom they have a framed "review" that says it was voted best tapas bar. They need to take this down since they aren't one anymore."

  • "Only time available on Open Table was either before 6 or 8:30, so took the 8:30. Based on advertising and reviews we were looking for Tapas and music. When we arrived 1/2 hour early to get a drink at the bar thinking they would be so busy...but there was only 1 other party in the whole restaurant and no host to be found. Waited 5 minutes and then started to look for the host. Finally at a table with a menu and no tapas to be found. Very disappointing. Food we did have was very bland, not worth the cost!"

  • "I wished I lived closer to this restaurant and could afford to go often! It's my favorite restaurant. The grouper was prepared grilled with baby vegetables and delicious. Service, well it just doesn't get any better than Dave! The wine he suggested was very good. My husband is addicted to the bread...can't find good bread in Port Saint Lucie! Worth the drive!"

  • "The Tasting Room is a must do experience! My friend and I had an attentive and charming waiter - I think his name is Doug - who was a delight. The place was pretty quiet (post spring break -April 30th) so we had a mellow dinner. At other times of the year the atmosphere can be pretty rambunctious, but fun. I love the menu, the wine list, the flight opportunities, even the chef was open to a suggestion I made about adding cinnamon to the coconut rice. The swordfish was fabulous. It always is a pleasure to be in the Tasting Room."

  • "My wife and I had the best dining experience or our 60 year life. It was recommended by our son in law and daughter. The chef's table option was our choice and it was amazing. Really makes it an extraordinary experience that we will remember forever."

  • "This is a charming downtown Old St. Augustine restaurant, with inside or outdoor dining. When we were there, it was quiet and relaxing. Great wines-they have a "sample" size, a nice idea for trying different kinds of wines. Shrimp with red pepper rum sauce and crispy skin snapper dishes were delicious, with unique blends of flavors. Even though we were quite full, dessert menu won us over (yummy bread pudding!) Staff was welcoming and gracious!"

  • "Bill for two over $180; wine at $15 glass is out of line. Food was creative but lacked basic Spanish dishes e.g. Garlic Shrimp, Paella[ only vege version served]. If you go plan to eat very lightly to escape for under $100 for two. Get one glass and a app then say so long! Also online reservations faulty. we could not get a 5:30-6:00PM Res so did 5PM. Place virtually empty until after 6:30PM. Go figure."

  • "The Tasting Room has consistently been my favorite restaurant in Saint Augustine 6 years running. I have always enjoyed their amazing tapas (small plate) dishes, bursting with flavor and ingenuity, paired of course with the perfect glass of wine. The last time we were disappointed to see that instead of the huge selection of tapas, they now just have a regular menu with the main dishes being their focus. The food was excellent of course (although portions for the mains were very small and pricey for what you get), but I really missed having a wide variety of delicious tastes throughout the evening - which was definitely one of my favorite parts of dining at The Tasting Room. I hope they go back to their roots and focus on tapas again!"

  • "We reserved a table of seven, in the back away from the music. Music was nice and not too loud. However, the service was very bad and you had to search for a waiter or flag him down. We had to ask for a wine list. The noise level was so bad, you started screaming to overcome the tables around you. Not a good experience for $500 plus evening. Nice ambiance in the room however. Food, okay, nothing to raive about from any of us."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants in St. Augustine. Since we have been dining here for years, the hostess Brittany always greets us warmly and stops by throughout the dinner to check on us. We have never had a bad experience here. There is always a nice and tasty vegetarian option. They have an excellent wine list and we enjoy their Spanish wines. We have found our favorite sherry at the restaurant too. I highly recommend The Tasting Room Wine and Tapas!"

  • "Tasting Room continues its evolution....now open only for dinner, with a Captains Table for really special meals. The new emphasis is more on entrees than tapas......sort of a shame as the tapas were their original attraction. We had the snapper - delectable - and the heavenly scallops seared with a touch of barbeque sauce. The side vegetables (cous-cous, Russian kale) were perfect accompaniments. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience - as always - and look forward to our next visit."

  • "My husband and I were told this place would be great for a quiet night out. We first ordered wine from the extensive an excellent wine list. We then ordered an appetizer of goat cheese which was also very good. However after that we were going to share another appetizer and entree. We ordered them and they came out together quite quickly after ordering them. We were hoping to spend A relaxing night out without being rushed through dinner. We were in and out of there in about an hour. The food was excellent but we could have easily enjoyed another glass or two of wine but we felt as though we were being hurried."

  • "There are scads of restaurants in St. Augustine - most are mediocre, a few try hard but don't quite make it. Then there's Tasting Room with their creative, changing menu that keeps you coming back. If you love good food, this is the only game in town."

  • "Perfect for teenage cousins to get aquatinted while the adults caught up. ( 8 of us )Music started as we were finishing dinner (7:30) , magician played a card trick for the young set. Picking tapas to share inspired lively conversation. We all had fun, then walked through St Augustine to buy ice cream cones while strolling history. It was my second visit & I will go back."

  • "Greeted by a server in a sundress, flip flops and sunglasses on her head. This is not a relaxed, beachy restaurant. I wasn't too keen on paying $25+ on a dish when my server was dressed for $5 burgers. We ordered 3 small plates & a couple drinks. The steak skewers were dry and not worth the $16. Even if they hadn't been overcooked, they still didn't have any flavor to them. According to the menu, the steak was topped with grilled scallions and anchovy butter-I found neither of these. It was just drizzled with balsamic vinegar. The tuna, however, was one of the best things I've ever tasted. It was so fresh and the herb oil drizzled on top added great flavor, along with the fresh jalapenos & edible flowers. This is more what I was expecting."

  • "We enjoyed a variety of small plates--so many, in fact, that we never got to ordering a main course! I was very happy trying out a wine flight, as well. Always such a treat to be able to taste several wines side by side. A memorable, leisurely meal in beautiful surroundings--what a lovely way to spend an evening."

  • "Had the tasting menu, the fish was cooked perfectly but, it was a bit bland. The second course was a salad, with a really good what tasted like a fig vinaigrette. The main course was a fabulous duck dish, with rice and a really good sauce, and for dessert a cheese cake that was okay. I am unable to describe the dishes that well, because we had no idea what we were eating as the server (who was really nice) would just set down the plates without letting us know what was on them. It was not a lot of food, and we had to order an extra dish as we were still hungry (and we are both very small people that don't eat that much)."

  • "The food was magnificent. The waiter was very patient with us and answered questions and was able to make suggestions based on an allergy of one of our party. Most of us have spent a good deal of time in Spain so were mostly familiar with the dishes -- some the usual classics and others a nice local variety. The only caveat was the awful guitar player who was so bad that we found ourselves eating quickly just to get away from his truly abominable playing and singing. If the restaurant values its customers, they will surely hire another musician!"

  • "Had a really good meal, nice bottle of wine at the Tasting Room. We had serrano ham and marinated manchego for appetizers, a nice kale salad, shrimp, pork belly, sauteed peppers, all really good. Very crowded and very loud; definitely needed reservations."

  • "Finidng this tapas spot is not that easy, but fun to find in the heart of the oldest city in the states. Three rooms with one being outside. This is the place to relax, unwind, taste of variety of foods, with excellent wine choices. We tried Chalk Hill and Etude both from Sonoma. The quinoa paella was a complete surprise. Expecting a rather bland offering, it was so tasty and the hit of the table. but the Gambas(shrimp) was also excellent, even though I like mine a little spicier. The patron peppers were dynamite and my friend got the hot one(the russian roulette of peppers). Guitars start at 7:30 and are flamenco, spanish genre and totally perfect background music for the dining experience there. Just great...Thanks,,,,"

  • "I was very disappointed that the churassco was not on the menu. This dish blew me away so I really looking forward to it for my birthday celebration. I was told this was a seasonal item, but she didn't know when it would return. This need to be on the permanent item menu. Other than that, it was very good and staff was great!"

  • "We visited on a Saturday night. Very busy! They sat us a little early which was nice but it was so loud I couldn't hear what my wife was saying. And it got louder as a tab,let of partiers showed up next time us. Server did a great job Food was good, although they didn't have what I originally ordered and I had to reorder, I would visit again but not on a weekend. Night, or at least Saturday. Couldn't even hear the band the acoustics and noise were so bad. If you go on Saturday as to be seated outside!"

  • "Delicious food and a good price for a bottle of Prosecco. We arrived at 5:30PM and enjoyed the quiet ambiance - only three other tables with patrons by 5:45 (on a Friday). The fireplace is a nice touch. We were seated about midway in the main dining area. No audible noise from the kitchen. No tablecloths but they would fit well in this sort of establishment."

  • "Our party of 6 loved this place! An international group - French, Canadian, Colombian, and American we all agreed that the paired wine and chef's choice menu was excellent. Nice setting, lovely Roz Jacobs art on the walls and a wonderful wine selection. Wish we had the extra $175 for a bottle of this years Wine Spectators #1 wine! Thanks for a lovely evening."
