The Tasting Room Wine & Tapas
Great Date Night SpotIt looks very unassuming on the outside but very pretty inside. Live music, and by this I mean a lone guitarist playing and singing softly as background music. The wait staff were attentive without being overly so. And the food and wine was wonderful. Even my husband commented on how nice it was. We walked down St. George Street afterward to walk off some of our dinner and it was just perfect. What a great evening. Would highly recommend.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe tapas are always excellentThe tapas are always excellent and the menu changes periodically. There is often a guitarist playing in the evning. Dining in the courtyard is very nice. The wine list is outstanding. Although it can get a bit pricey, we always enjoy The Tasting Room.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have always been a fanWe have always been a fan of the Tasting Room because of the opportunity to dine outdoors in a cozy courtyard and the creative Spanish food and wine offerings. But the excellent dining experience comes at a relatively high price which most of the time we consider to be worth it. We loved the watermelon, cucumber, and mozzarella salad special but thought the $8 price for a small salad was out of line. On the other hand, the yellow tail with garbanzo beans and the grilled lamb chop entrees were outstanding in terms of presentation and flavor and well worth their cost. We ordered a bottle of Garnacha but those not familiar with Spanish wines might enjoy selecting flights (2 oz pours of 3 different white or red wines).6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and wineGreat wine list an the server was very knowledgable on it.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasantly surprisedWe have not been to st Augustine in ten years. Decided after reading reviews to give it a try. Appetizer of crab over potato salad was fantastic. Salmon was the best I ever had Caesar salad was in my opinion the weak link. Can't wait to return. Doug our server was an asset. Guitar player excellent.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful ResturauntThe service was phenomenal and the food was absolutely fantastic!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceWe have been there before and love going back. It is good and consistent. Service was great.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMDid not Disappoint! My husband and I have been to a few wonderful spanish tapas restaurants in a few different cities over the past couple of years, and all have been wonderful meals. The Tasting Room was no exception. The ambiance inside was great, and we enjoyed live music for the duration of our meal (although a little loud, but still enjoyable). We thorougly enjoyed the tuna cruda, seafood goat cheese dip, and the steak tartare. Very well priced for a tapas restaurant, and everything was wonderful! We would definitely return when visiting St. Augustine!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ServiceThis was our second time dining at the Tasting Room. The service and ambience were excellent, we did have some complications with the kitchen which kept us from eating for almost an hour. The hostess and wait staff did there best to make it up to us. Even thought it took awhile to get our food it was still good and we will probably give them another try.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious tapas and great music!Great wines, especially Spanish wines that blend so well with the Spanish owner's food selections. Mushrooms and Lamb Meatballs were simply delicious. Salads are always good... favorites are Spanish Caesar and Beet.. crab salad was good, too.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousExcellent everything! Food was amazing, wine was delicious, server was very knowledgable about the menu choices & wine list. The atmosphere was great, not too loud & the band was very good.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSome new menu items for summer! We enjoyed yummy beet salad, chicken livers with sweet onions, machego cheese --others we saved for next time. Empanadas are always good - this time they were filled with mushrooms -- really delish. Lamb is back on the menu in the form of meatballs in excellent tomato sauce. Great music by House Cats!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat PlaceExcellent and creative menu, very well executed. Wine list is superior to others in the area. Portions are American-sized, so be careful not to order too many dishes, though you will be tempted. Overall, a definite re-visit next time we are in the city.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA truly delightful experience! We weren't sure what to expect...certainly pleased!
My husband and I had the chef's 4 course meal (which changes daily) with wine pairings. My husband's wine tastes tend toward sweet, and the server made some great choices for him (for me, also!).
The first course was a tuna tartare with tarragon watermelon and pumpkin seeds. Wonderful! 2nd course was yellowtail snapper on soba noodles - fantastic! 3rd course was marinated flank steak over grits, and it was outstanding!
Dessert was to have been bread pudding, but they had only 1 left, so we got a panna cotta also. Panna cotta was delicious ! Frankly, the bread pudding was okay, but not special.
We ate outside- not my usual choice- as live music played as we dined...loved it!
Memorable!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was tasty. The serviceThe food was tasty. The service was very good. Our group was accommodated very nicely. I hope to go back soon when I am in town.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst VisitMy husband and I often visit St. Augustine but had not previously been to the Tasting Room. The menu sounded intriguing, so we decided to venture forth. We dined on a weeknight, so there were not many other diners there and most of them were on the patio outside (we chose to be seated inside). The decor was very warm and pleasant. Our overall experience was good, but there are some kinks to work out. The server brought our salads before we had finished our appetizers, but there was a much longer pause between the salad and the entree, so timing was a little off. It also took them too long to clear a neighboring table. We enjoyed our meal very much, so we do plan to return because this restaurant has definite potential.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDate Night At The Tasting RoomEven with the changing menu the food was great and the service top notch.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNot to be missedAlthough noted for their tapas menu, the four course chef's tasting is a good value, even though they have raised the price to $48 w/out the wine pairings. Unlike many other chef tastings we have done, we did not leave hungry. Wine pairings were very interesting. One of the best restaurants in St. Augustine.
Contrary to some prior posts, we did not find the service to be particularly slow, although it was a Sunday night and the restaurant was busy but not crowded.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best places in townHad such a great time here - food is fabulous. Was in from Chicago and looking for a good place for our date night. It was perfect - live music, great wine, and a wonderful selection. Mussels were my favorite but everything was very good. Our waiter, David, was so nice and very helpful. Highly recommend.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMTasting Room, St. Augustine OasisThe Tasting Room has wonderful tapas in a charming courtyard that's an oasis in the center of the tourist bustle in St. Augustine.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA gem!! Excellent food andA gem!! Excellent food and service! Highly recommended !4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSpanish FlairThe combination of food, wine, and live guitar music makes you feel like you are in Spain.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMTasty tapas and wineWe had a wonderful meal of Tapas here. Brought friends for their first visit and our 4th. Our waiter Joseph was amazing and suggested some wonderful wines and tapas to share.
We eat here every year when we visit St. Augustine. It's a gem!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMTasting Room is our top restaurantTasting Room is our top restaurant choice for downtown Saint Augustine. Classy food, great live music and outstanding wine list, make this restaurant an easy choice. This restaurant deserves at least 1 Michelin star!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed the tapas menuWe enjoyed the tapas menu and the nice wine list. We will most definitely return the next time we visit St Augustine4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentThe food was delicious and was perfect weather to eat outside. Will definitely be making trips back for dinner.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBack street findTucked away on alley street, this was afind. Service pleasant and helpful. Tapas-like choices were broad and inventive. Wines were outstanding with flights by geography or varietal etc. Lunch on sunny, warm spring day was just right in hidden away courtyard. Were we to return to St Augustine, this would be high on return list.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food, Terribly SlowAnother St. Augustine restaurant with extremely slow service. The server was pleasant and attentive, but the kitchen was dreadfully slow. Had we not spent over half an hour between our first and second Tapas, I would have rated this restaurant perfect. The food was excellent. The wine list was excellent. The quaint little courtyard was delightful for lunch. The wine pairing with desert was right on. But why is every good restaurant in St. Augustine so slow?4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Spanish-inspired foodWe have eaten here several times, and the meals have been consistently excellent. Each course consists of a nice variety of textures and flavors.
The menu includes a couple dozen tapas, a good variety of main courses, and 4-course tasting menus, which can be ordered with paired wines.
The wine list is huge, with tasting glasses (2 oz.) at $3-5, regular glasses (6 oz.) averaging about $10, and a large number of full bottles from throughout Spain and the rest of the world. The serving staff are very knowledgeable about the wines that they serve, and have made excellent recommendations for wines that pair well with each plate.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe prix fixe four-courseThe prix fixe four-course menu was excellent with reasonable sized portions. Great wine list with many by-glass choices. The low-key guitar/vocal music was entertaining and non-intrusive--just the right background.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe tapas were excellent. The tapas were excellent. Their wine list was substantial. The couple playing spanish music on their guitars made for a special evening. I highly recommend this restaurant.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe mussels are a must! PassThe mussels are a must! Pass on the shrimp though, mushy and bland.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMuy BuenoThis is an outstanding restaurant in a town with few outstanding options. Having lived in Spain, I appreciate good tapas, and these are excellent; inventive while respectful of tradition. Service is very good, courtyard pleasant, wine list eclectic. A delightful, fairly priced evening that those who appreciate authentic tapas will appreciate. If your idea of a good dinner is meat and potatoes, this isn't for you.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBest scallops I have had inBest scallops I have had in a very long time, very attentive staff. Great place.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecialWe cannot say enough good things about this place. We had the cold meat tray for tapas, followed by spinich empanadas. His skirt steak with frites and chimichurri was excellent as was my hearty portion of butternut squash risotto. Highly recommend this place over many others in Old Town.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMwe dined w/ a party of 5 andwe dined w/ a party of 5 and ordered rounds of tapas so everyone could savor all of the tastes that were provided that night.great way to eat !!the wines were great but our nonwine drinker had to go across the street to get a gin and tonic !! the music was a great addition, but a little too loud for normal indoor conversation.we will return to taste all the tapas that we missed !!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMNice find.Very glad we found this. Have been traveling through St Augustine for years and finally found a place we will visit every time we return. Exceptional!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMLive Music, Big TapasOverall, a great place, with live music and some creative tapas. Most of the food was very good, with a few near misses, but they get credit for departing from the standard tapas menu. The only drawback is that the tapas are unusually large, so two people can only share two or three, maybe four at the most if you're really hungry. Prompt, almost rushed, service.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic and amazing flavors!!Authentic and amazing flavors!! Best sangria I've ever had!3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dining experienceGreat food, excellent wine selection and wonderful service. Highly recommend!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect dinner! The first course will take your breath away. But after you've finished dessert, you will marvel that the chef has repeatedly surpassed standards of excellence with each dish. You can have a lot of fun if you go on culinary adventures by means of the small plates. About the size of a plentiful, to-be-shared appetizer, each plate gives you an opportunity to try something really special. And the live guitarist playing in the main room was superb - not too loud, not hackneyed, and certainly not annoying. Instead, he was talented and multifaceted, playing different types of music seamlessly. Extraordinary food and music - does it get any better than this?2/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food and live musicWe love everything about this place. We took three friends -- their first time -- they've traveled widely and they were very impressed at the selection and the quality.1/2/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat live musicspectacular menu with a wide variety to tempt everyone!12/19/2012 12:00:00 AM
