Diner Reviews
  • "Food was very good, but was way over priced for the value received. Small quantities. Very crowded and noisy. Ate at Columbia twice on the trip and much higher value for the money. "

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants in St. Augustine. Since we have been dining here for years, the hostess Brittany always greets us warmly and stops by throughout the dinner to check on us. We have never had a bad experience here. There is always a nice and tasty vegetarian option. They have an excellent wine list and we enjoy their Spanish wines. We have found our favorite sherry at the restaurant too. I highly recommend The Tasting Room Wine and Tapas!"

  • "We reserved a table of seven, in the back away from the music. Music was nice and not too loud. However, the service was very bad and you had to search for a waiter or flag him down. We had to ask for a wine list. The noise level was so bad, you started screaming to overcome the tables around you. Not a good experience for $500 plus evening. Nice ambiance in the room however. Food, okay, nothing to raive about from any of us."

  • "My husband and I were told this place would be great for a quiet night out. We first ordered wine from the extensive an excellent wine list. We then ordered an appetizer of goat cheese which was also very good. However after that we were going to share another appetizer and entree. We ordered them and they came out together quite quickly after ordering them. We were hoping to spend A relaxing night out without being rushed through dinner. We were in and out of there in about an hour. The food was excellent but we could have easily enjoyed another glass or two of wine but we felt as though we were being hurried."

  • "Great location, food was average, calamari was like rubber. Good wine selection. Wouldn't go back."

  • "Tasting Room continues its evolution....now open only for dinner, with a Captains Table for really special meals. The new emphasis is more on entrees than tapas......sort of a shame as the tapas were their original attraction. We had the snapper - delectable - and the heavenly scallops seared with a touch of barbeque sauce. The side vegetables (cous-cous, Russian kale) were perfect accompaniments. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience - as always - and look forward to our next visit."

  • "We enjoyed a variety of small plates--so many, in fact, that we never got to ordering a main course! I was very happy trying out a wine flight, as well. Always such a treat to be able to taste several wines side by side. A memorable, leisurely meal in beautiful surroundings--what a lovely way to spend an evening."

  • "A bit pricey, but very worth it. Food was great, extensive wine list, and beautiful ambiance."

  • "We chose tapas rather than a main entree and it was anm excellent choice. Food sublime."

  • "There are scads of restaurants in St. Augustine - most are mediocre, a few try hard but don't quite make it. Then there's Tasting Room with their creative, changing menu that keeps you coming back. If you love good food, this is the only game in town."

  • "Perfect for teenage cousins to get aquatinted while the adults caught up. ( 8 of us )Music started as we were finishing dinner (7:30) , magician played a card trick for the young set. Picking tapas to share inspired lively conversation. We all had fun, then walked through St Augustine to buy ice cream cones while strolling history. It was my second visit & I will go back."

  • "Friendly and knowledgeable service. Food all tasty, albeit pricy for the small portions. Unique menu and promises of upcoming menu change and new dining format. Pleasant and unobtrusive electric guitar live music in background. Try it."

  • "Greeted by a server in a sundress, flip flops and sunglasses on her head. This is not a relaxed, beachy restaurant. I wasn't too keen on paying $25+ on a dish when my server was dressed for $5 burgers. We ordered 3 small plates & a couple drinks. The steak skewers were dry and not worth the $16. Even if they hadn't been overcooked, they still didn't have any flavor to them. According to the menu, the steak was topped with grilled scallions and anchovy butter-I found neither of these. It was just drizzled with balsamic vinegar. The tuna, however, was one of the best things I've ever tasted. It was so fresh and the herb oil drizzled on top added great flavor, along with the fresh jalapenos & edible flowers. This is more what I was expecting."

  • "The food was magnificent. The waiter was very patient with us and answered questions and was able to make suggestions based on an allergy of one of our party. Most of us have spent a good deal of time in Spain so were mostly familiar with the dishes -- some the usual classics and others a nice local variety. The only caveat was the awful guitar player who was so bad that we found ourselves eating quickly just to get away from his truly abominable playing and singing. If the restaurant values its customers, they will surely hire another musician!"

  • "Had the tasting menu, the fish was cooked perfectly but, it was a bit bland. The second course was a salad, with a really good what tasted like a fig vinaigrette. The main course was a fabulous duck dish, with rice and a really good sauce, and for dessert a cheese cake that was okay. I am unable to describe the dishes that well, because we had no idea what we were eating as the server (who was really nice) would just set down the plates without letting us know what was on them. It was not a lot of food, and we had to order an extra dish as we were still hungry (and we are both very small people that don't eat that much)."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at the Tasting Room. Our waiter was courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. All of our meals were prepared to perfection, and we enjoyed the variety of food. We loved the atmosphere and ambience of the place, and will definitely return!"

  • "Delicious food and a good price for a bottle of Prosecco. We arrived at 5:30PM and enjoyed the quiet ambiance - only three other tables with patrons by 5:45 (on a Friday). The fireplace is a nice touch. We were seated about midway in the main dining area. No audible noise from the kitchen. No tablecloths but they would fit well in this sort of establishment."

  • "Had a really good meal, nice bottle of wine at the Tasting Room. We had serrano ham and marinated manchego for appetizers, a nice kale salad, shrimp, pork belly, sauteed peppers, all really good. Very crowded and very loud; definitely needed reservations."

  • "Finidng this tapas spot is not that easy, but fun to find in the heart of the oldest city in the states. Three rooms with one being outside. This is the place to relax, unwind, taste of variety of foods, with excellent wine choices. We tried Chalk Hill and Etude both from Sonoma. The quinoa paella was a complete surprise. Expecting a rather bland offering, it was so tasty and the hit of the table. but the Gambas(shrimp) was also excellent, even though I like mine a little spicier. The patron peppers were dynamite and my friend got the hot one(the russian roulette of peppers). Guitars start at 7:30 and are flamenco, spanish genre and totally perfect background music for the dining experience there. Just great...Thanks,,,,"

  • "I was very disappointed that the churassco was not on the menu. This dish blew me away so I really looking forward to it for my birthday celebration. I was told this was a seasonal item, but she didn't know when it would return. This need to be on the permanent item menu. Other than that, it was very good and staff was great!"

  • "We visited on a Saturday night. Very busy! They sat us a little early which was nice but it was so loud I couldn't hear what my wife was saying. And it got louder as a tab,let of partiers showed up next time us. Server did a great job Food was good, although they didn't have what I originally ordered and I had to reorder, I would visit again but not on a weekend. Night, or at least Saturday. Couldn't even hear the band the acoustics and noise were so bad. If you go on Saturday as to be seated outside!"

  • "Our party of 6 loved this place! An international group - French, Canadian, Colombian, and American we all agreed that the paired wine and chef's choice menu was excellent. Nice setting, lovely Roz Jacobs art on the walls and a wonderful wine selection. Wish we had the extra $175 for a bottle of this years Wine Spectators #1 wine! Thanks for a lovely evening."

  • "When you travel you never know what to expect when you dine. This was an awesome place not to big but big enough to get a full dinning experience. The food was amazing an quite a selection for everyone. The wine selection was great as well as the guitar player in the corner that was loud enough to hear him but not so loud that you couldn't have a nice normal conversation at your table. Will be back the next time in town!!"

  • "We usually sit outside but because weather was a bit chilly, we asked for a table indoors and were glad we did. Guitarist was wonderful as was the service. Food is a bit pricey for the quantity but quality is excellent and our waiter assisted us in selecting a wine that complemented everything nicely. Very enjoyable evening!"

  • "Part of this restaurant is inside, part outside. You sit outside in charming tables of 24 or more people surrounded by gas heaters. We chose to sit outside on an evening that was in the high 50s but the heater wasn't working next to our table. The servers didn't seem to be very concerned about this. We waited at least 10 min for bread to be brought to the table; this after we already had started our wine. We had 2 diff types of potato dishes. One came with a variety of fish another was seasoned potatoes. Both very good. We also had the "pulpo" - absolutely fantastic. I would recommend this restaurant to friends. But I would also hope that the management would read the feedback and think about tightening up their service."

  • "So long as you are very patient and have no need to go off the beaten path at all, this place is ok. However my wife has an allergy, our stays at restaurants tend to test their limits and this one did not measure up at all, especially for the prices they charge. Our server equated allergies with vegetarianism, had to go back to the kitchen 4 times to recheck and adjust for it. Kitchen unable to substitute, just kept excluding stuff (apparently unable to "think on their feet"). We DID inform them of the allergy when we made the reservation, but this went unheeded. General service was lacking too in small ways -- our drink order wasn't taken on its own, I had to prompt our server after 20min--odd thing for a place with a 30 page wine list."

  • "The ambiance of The Tasting Room is absolutely great, service is unmatched. Food was good, although there were some items on the menu that they ran out (actually two of our favorites and it was only Sunday evening!). We had slightly better options last year (during our yearly visit to St. Augustine and to TTR, a must in town). Great Tuna. Overall is very good, we'll come again next year."

  • "When I made the reservation we were told there was nothing available from 6:30-8 so we went at 6. There ended up being many free tables during that time. The restaurant was out of several items on the menu and our waiter didn't even know they were out of the chicken soup soup several of us ordered. After quite a while, the host came over to our table and told us they were out of the soup. Our waiter never came back to see what else we wanted. We had to eventually flag him down to get his attention so we could reorder and he seemed surprised we were told there was no chicken soup. Our food was delivered sporadically. Food quality was not impressive. Of the 10 dishes our party ordered, 3 were poor, 5 were fair, and 2 were very good."

  • "My Wife and I had rsvp at 9 pm on Saturday 2/15th. What we had was good for being very basic (cooked red potatoes, mushrooms, chicken). However the appetizer we wanted the most they were out of. Then the main entry I wanted, they ran out of. So at that point I was like, "Alright, day after Valentine's at a popular restaurant. I'm an understandable guy." However after my Wife & I placed our backup orders, our waiter came back to the table over 5 mins later sayng that they were out of that dish too. I'm sorry but If you know it's one of the busiest "eat out" wknds of the year, and I come to your restaurant based on what I previewed on the online menu, stock up!!! Again, I'm a very understanding guy. And I try them again in the future."

  • "Been wanting to try this place for a long time. Everything from start to finish was great! DO NOT LEAVE THIS place without trying the octopus! It is amazing! If you go on Monday they have a great special, they pick one bottle of wine for %50 off. We tried 4 different tapas and all of them were excellent! The only let down was the coffee. Service was outstanding!"

  • "What a great find in old St. Augustine! Lovely interior with a nice fire in the fireplace set the tone for a quiet, romantic lunch. Wonderful, crusty bread just out of the oven was just the beginning of a perfect lunch. We ordered the marinated Manchego cheese drizzled with oil, Marcona almonds, and dried cherries. Superb! Next we ordered the trio of tuna, crab, and shrimp salads wrapped in purple Peruvian potatoes. For our entree we shared a plate of roasted pork belly with shaved beets drizzled with maple and an order of roasted, crispy potatoes. The pork belly was an outstanding dish with a wonderful balance of tastes. We also sampled a variety of wines from a Chalk Hill chardonnay to French white to a smooth red Zinfandel. Wonderful!"

  • "We were very excited to have an opportunity to dine at this zagat rated restaurant. The food was good not great but the service lacked attentiveness. The server forgot to bring bread, forgot to replace knife and fork between appetizer and entree. The server forgot to provide my wife's beverage as well. At the end we were considering dessert but the waiter showed up with a check in hand. We decided that was it for us and we went to another establishment for our dessert. Too bad we won't go back."

  • "We had a very pleasant dinner of assorted tapas and excellent wine. Our server was very helpful and explained the newly revised menu selections. The courtyard was perfect and the ambience of the live guitarist made this a delightful evening. Every menu item we tried was outstanding."

  • "This place is one of my absolute favorites downtown. It has a Spanish influence on all their dishes, a great wine menu (although like any other wine menu HORRIBLY overpriced..we bought the same bottle at Total wine for less than HALF the price we were charged but thats to be expected when ordering bottles out). They always have a good selection of local live music thats not overpowering. The wait staff are always friendly and most are very knowledgeable about their wine list. The menu is ever changing so the ingredients are fresh and savory. This is the place to take a date to if romance is your goal. Good music, great menu, great atmosphere. You cant go wrong!"
