First time had the chefs dinner paired w wine, excellent. This time casual, ordered what we wanted and our own wine and even more excellent. Great fun and fantastic food. Ordered way less then isuggested and we were stuffed. Red snapper was our of this world and mussels & fries the best. Lots of moaning at our table. Of course said no room for desert but one chocolate panacetya was perfect for the 4 of us. Loved every bite and every sip . Can't wait to go back. Its a true dining experience!

The name of the restaurant is spot on: The Tasting Kitchen. Because that is all you get: A taste. This was my special birthday dinner. I thought I would splurge and order a $40 pasta entree that was a small stuffed pillow pasta (I can't remember the name of it) filled with squash and topped with white truffles. When it arrived they had given me 8 pasta pillows (the pasta was barely bigger than a quarter). So basically, $6 a piece of pasta. I couldn't believe it. And, trust me, they weren't heaping on the truffle shavings so you couldn't justify that this was why it was so expensive. Now if this place was a "fine dining" experience I would have understood the portion, but it wasn't.

The noise level in this restaurant makes it nearly impossible to converse at dinner. The crowd is fairly loud, but that is becasue everybody has to talk over the music, which is quite loud.

I was totally underwhelmed by my first experience at the Tasting Kitchen despite years of anticipation. My biggest issue was with the service. It was a Friday night and it was abundantly clear they were more interested in moving tables than making sure their guests had a good experience. The wait staff was surprisingly rude and condescending about the menu, almost shaming you if didn't know what one of the obscure menu items was (and there are many). In addition to all of this, the food was amazingly average, especially for the price. Without looking too far you can easily find better branzino, pastas and pork chops on the west side. I'm sure something on their menu is redeeming, but I'm not sure what it is. Food for thought.

Went here for Brunch while Abbot Kinney Festival Event was happening on the main street. Charming venue and staff but they condensed the menu that day, I'm assuming bec of the Abbot Kinney Event that day. So that was disappointing being our first time at this place we did not get to try the food we really want to try (eg. Fig & Cheddar Melted & Grilled Sandwich). I will definitely come back to try their dinner menu and will make sure they have the regular menu available before going.

I think the restaurant is overrated! The food didn't meet our expectations and was not worth the money paid. Also, there was a piece of foil in one dish, the waiter took it away to re-make it, so one of our party waited for his meal really long. No one even apologized for that.

The ambiance was cool and urban trendy. My favorite part of the meal was dessert. The chocolate panna cotta was amazing. Dinner for two was very expensive and service was as acceptable. The waitress either didn't know much about the individual plates or was too busy to explain what we were ordering. I'd go back to explore more of the menu items. Corkage fee is $30 and valet is quick and affordable so no need to hunt down parking.

From the moment we stepped up to the hostess stand, I knew this place had a tude. Hostess RUDE. Server nice but not attentive. Wasn't welcomed for ages. Didn't take a drink order. Water glasses not filled. Asked for a recommendation after telling waiter preference and received exactly what I don't like. Meal finished, wasn't presented after dinner choices, and had to ask for check after waiting forever! Never saw our waiter again. That said, pasta was amazing and would try again. But they definitely need to address some staff issues.

We had brunch here with our baby and sat in the semi-outdoor area. We have been here before and love the ambiance. The semi-outdoor area is so lovely. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Brunch is fantastic. We shared the french toast (I believe a brioche) which is unlike any other we've had -- it was several inches thick and you slice it up... so good..and also shared the savory waffles which is served with fried chicken (perfectly spiced) and slices of bacon (it tastes like fried pancetta). My husband isn't the type to eat a lot of bacon (weird, right?) and he LOVED it. The brewed coffee was great and the cocktails even better.

Heard and read many great things about the restaurant so we decided to take some out of towners for dinner here. We ordered a bunch of items from the menu so everyone can try a little of everything...for my main, I ordered the burger and unfortunately it was one of the worst burgers I have tasted. Disappointed. The bread wasn't good, the bell peppers were slimy and overpowering. The strip of thick pancetta or pork belly tasted very briny and didn't compliment the beef. I had one bite and couldn't finish the rest. Not sure if I would go back unfortunately.

Came on a Saturday around 11a with a reservation. Street parking around Venice at this time was no problem. House bloody was refreshing. We shared Eggs in a Basket, Fried Chicken&Waffles, Short Rib Hash. As popular as Eggs in a Basket seemed to be (1 at every table) it was just a touch too sweet for me. Fried Chicken and Short Rib Hash was delicious. The portions are good. I left sated but not at food coma status. I would definitely come back to try more items off the menu. Also, their tableware is super cute and great contrast to their decor. Our server was really nice, we had one person come really late and he was very accommodating.

My son treated my husband and I to the 5 course tasting menu. I never thought we would eat it all but over 3 hours we ate and drank and had the best time. One of the best meals of my life and way worth the $80 per person charge. Highlights mussels in saffron, scallops in bacon, sun cucumber / tuscan melon salad , whole barnzino. That was just half of it! Great for a special occasion and definitely a memorable experience

Enjoyed the food, but the noise level too high...we sat upstairs as we were told it was "quieter"...not the case, so we moved to the covered outdoor patio downstairs, which was a tad better. Beautiful, modern decor surrounded by a beautiful tree. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. A little pricey for the amount of food you get, but still very enjoyable. Be sure to order the fresh bread and butter - AMAZING (butter is sprinkled w/sea salt - soooooo good!).

I'd heard some mixed reviews about this place but our experience was phenominal. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess and shortly escorted to our table. Service was attentive.....and then came the food. Best polenta I've ever had, and my family is Italian. Creamy, rich and the tomato compote was sweet and textured perfectly. Short rib hash was tender through-and-through which went with the perfectly poached egg. Cocktails were crisp and classic and the perfect pairing. Tough to get a table at times but would be worth a wait. Ready to go back and try some other menu items.

The first time I came with a larger group and the food was amazing despite the group size and serving sizes. The kitchen delivered again this time, though a couple of the dishes could have been better. The beets were over-cooked and the roasted chicken was tasty but not quite roasted - it lacked that crispy outside that roasted chicken can and should have. However, the radicchio salad was amazing, so was the steak, and the burger somehow moved our vegetarian friend to the dark side that evening. So this kitchen still delivers really good food in what I consider to be a very romantic setting.

Expected a lot based on recommendations of knowledgeable people. We had an inedible radicchio salad, so bitter as to be offensive, and scallops that were over cooked. The chicken was fine, but massively overpriced. The service was inattentive, although the table next to us ordering bottle after bottle of expensive wine got lots of attention.

How can you have a restaurant in Venice that barely offers any gluten free options? Throw on top the fact that they don't share their wi-FI (again, Venice, CA in the year 2014) coupled with super slow service and a confused kitchen that couldn't manage to bring out our sides till well after we were done with the meal and I doubt I will ever return. Regardless how good the French toast is.

Had truly memorable meal here. 6 in group - all raved about their food. Great Belgian draft beer to start while we waited for companions to arrive. They had mixed specialty drinks which they said were top notch. Seated on time at lovely table by the window so noise level was perfect. Daughter is gluten intolerant but there were several entrees for her to choose from - she had fish, two of us had hangar steak (we agreed best we've tasted in the LA area), another said pasta delicious, also shared divine mussels, amazing scallops appetizers, few sides, and some good desserts. Wine corkage a bit expensive ($30) but we like to bring our own. Would have enjoyed trying chef menu but 2 in party had dietary restrictions - oh well- we'll be back.

I really love this restaurant. I have been before and think the ambiance, menu and food are outstanding. It was very unfortunate that this past weekend our waitress was very rude. At one point she actually laughed in my face when I asked her a simple question about starters. I was so taken aback by her unfriendly attitude that I had trouble focusing on my order. I feel for such an expensive restaurant, the wait staff should be very friendly and happily answer questions about ANYTHING....no matter how simple they may be. No matter how good the food is, I cannot recommend this restaurant to any of my friends or business associates.

The food was overpriced and sub par. The bun they served the burger on was all wrong to begin with and it was stail; it made eating the burger very difficult. There was no complexity to the dishes. The charcuterie was sloppy and poorly put together. All of the cheeses were too similar in flavor and style. We did have scallops and they were cooked perfectly but it was $22 for two scallops with pesto and a couple ounces of beans. The fries were nice but they served them with an oddly bland aioli; it tasted like mayo with olive oil. I did not enjoy it with the fries. Overall I say it was not good and it's not likely that I will return.
