Diner Reviews
  • "Delicious, well executed dishes. Lots of energy. Really fun evening. We have ordered the three course tasting menu twice and loved it!"

  • "Food is wonderful - although the coffee is not good! Service was really slow and inattentive. I actually never received my diet coke! As there were four of us dining we each received our entree at a different time with about 5 to 8 minutes between the arrival of each of our orders. The coffee is too strong - and there is no sugar substitute -- only small cubes of sugar. And, since the coffee is served in small tea cup - one finishes the coffee quickly - but, no servers to be found to offer refills. The mimosas arrive in the smallest glass ever -- not worth the money! I know this place is named the Tasting Table - but should be named the Tasting Mimosa."

  • "I'd been looking forward to visiting this restaurant, my partner liked the food - I wasn't so thrilled. We went for the tasting menu which was $60 pp for 3 courses. To be fair, when asked if there was anything we didn't eat, I didn't think to mention rabbit which I wasn't keen on eating at anytime. My favorite was the Amuse Bouche. Perhaps the rabbit was not a great start...The alternate was tuna and artichoke. The next course included a fish which was lovely and a Pasta dish which again was good but again just a little small in it's portion size. The dessert was one that we had to share and 2 petit fours. I would go back for the atmosphere but not do the tasting menu. I guess with any tasting menu, you accept that you take your chances."

  • "We loved our food at this spot as well as the thoughtful layout and design of the space. The service was prompt and with a smile. Nothing too fancy we felt comfortable and well treated across the board."

  • "I ate brunch here for the first time this weekend, and man was it soooo good. We ordered a spread of food - biscuits, bacon, pepper quiche, croque madame, biscuits and gray with sausage, eggs in a basket - and ALL of it was delicious. Also, when my 6 year old wanted something that wasn't on the menu - an egg over easy with a side of toast, they happily made it for him."

  • "Fantastic evening - First time there and food and serve were incredible."

  • "I found brunch a bit underwhelming. I had high hopes but the food was mediocre at best. Perhaps dinner is better. I haven't completely lost faith in this restaurant. I'll give it one more shot. A side note: I did not care for the No Modifications or Substitions element. I have severe food allergies and this made it difficult to select and entree. I am happy to pay for modifications to fit my special needs, but this wasn't even an option."

  • "Phenomenal food, tremendous experience but can be pricey (not likely a place to frequent weekly or monthly). Service was great, discrete, and really allowed for my party to take our time and enjoy the moment. Highly recommend the corner table upstairs!"

  • "Breakfast was good. I didn't order anything adventurous on the menu, but what I did order (eggs, bacons) were delicious. The waiter was very attentive and the bus boys were also great!! My only complaint is the coffee and cappuccino. Both were very lukewarm. We thought ordering a second round would be better, but no so much! We asked one of the busboys for a hot cup and the third one was decent. A hot cup of joe is A REQUIREMENT for a good breakfast!"

  • "If you count all of Los Angeles, only Melise is better. Everything from the bread to the dessert is excellent. It is now our go-to restaurant. My only gripe -- The music is that techno-house music crap. A restaurant this hip and good should know better. But ignore it and have a great meal."

  • "I took a date to the Tasting kitchen the other night. Had the chefs tasting menu. It was one off the best meals I have had in years. It was subtle, complex and just fantastic. An awesome experience!"

  • "Food was very good but the evening was entirely a let down due to horrible service. Long wait for server to take drink order. I asked a couple of questions about two bottles of wine and he obviously was just guessing to the answer. I asked for a few minutes to think it over and he disappeared...for at least ten minutes. Didn't offer a somm to swing by or anything helpful. You would think that when a table wants to buy a bottle that more attention would be paid. The rest of the dinner went the same way. Saw the waiter maybe two times the entire evening. Complained to the host too."

  • "It was especially warm last Sunday, so we lucked out by being seated in the covered front patio, where we were able to enjoy the nice breeze that floated in from the open doors. The service was attentive and, considering how busy they were, it was also pretty fast; we didn't wait too long for our mimosas or our entrees. I had the waffles, which were good, not great, but then again, they were just waffles. If I were hungrier, I would've ordered the fried chicken or the fried oysters and spinach omelet. My friend had the grilled fig and cheese sandwich, which she loved. The mimosa was yummy, but for $11 a glass, I wished that the glass were larger, even just a little larger. All in all, it was a pleasant experience."

  • "I was there with friends on a Friday evening and spent almost three hours enjoying it all. The food is exceptional and the service outstanding. This place truly is among the better restaurants in LA. Well worth a visit."

  • "I was recommended to go there for the chicken & waffles. They were out of waffles. I wanted to get stake & egg whites, they would not so egg whites. The waitress took forever to get our coffee & only brought 3 when there were for of us. We ordered Bloody Mary's which were good & when my friend ordered another one they were "out" is the house version so he ha to order the uncharged one. My other friend wanted a side of fruit with her French toast & they said we don't do that. So to get fruit, she had to order a bowl of yogurt & fruit. REALLY???? We had 2 servers. One forgetful & one flat out rude. I am a professional bartender in NYC. I'm sad to say, this was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I will never go there again."

  • "Easily one of the two or three best dining experiences - led by the food - in LA, period. Brunch this time around was spectacular: fired oyster and eggs with lolla rossa and garlic toast; dynamite house Bloody Mary. Can't ask for better."

  • "for a special occasion. or just a casual tuesday night. tasting kitchen covers the whole gamut. we truly enjoyed a special birthday/going away dinner upstairs with our group. the pastas were unique and flavorful. we were able to take our time and enjoy our late dinner. thanks so much!"

  • "Service went from overly attentive at the beginning to non-existent the second part of the meal. Had to strain to get anyone's attention. Other unfortunate issue is the place is just insanely loud. So that overshadowed the food."

  • "The Tasting Kitchen is a trendy, happening restaurant with marvelous food and standout customer service. Our reservation was overbooked and they went out of their way to make us comfortable and gave us a generous compensation for the error. The wait staff could not have been nicer."

  • "I went to the Tasting Kitchen with my family for a special occasion and had a gift certificate. I think this is the only way I'd attend T.K again because I could never afford it otherwise. It was a great service and amazing food, but the group of frat boys that arrived as we were wrapping up our dinner ruined the ambiance."

  • "Brunch is the hidden gem at Tasting Kitchen…. it's not as scene-y as dinner, it's quieter (thankfully no rap music) and the portions are really generous. I have had the short rib hash twice …. it's not light but it is beyond good. My friends had the scrambled eggs and the frittata, which was amazing. You can also actually get a reservation."

  • "I took a lady here on a date. She is a chef and I love to cook so I wanted to try something with outstanding adventurous food. The Tasting Kitchen's prix fixe option for the evening did not disappoint. We each had several very tasty cocktails as well. I let the server, who was extremely knowledgeable and part of the evening's conversation, know that one of my drinks did not thrill me. They promptly replaced it with a drink I did enjoy, free of charge. I would come back here."

  • "Upon arriving the restaurant was relatively quiet; my wife and I were able to snag space at the bar. The cocktail menu is great with a large proportion of the menu dedicated to classics; drinks like the Singapore Sling and a Pisco Sour. The one detriment is the cocktails are rather pricey, around $12-14 each. Given the food to follow I would not suggest a great deal of imbibing anyhow. My wife and I settled on the "regular dinner", which is a total misnomer. Its more appropriate name would be "extraordinary dinner". The chef, based on personal allergies and avoidances, puts together a menu of their choice. Given my wife and I eat no pork, do no mix beef with dairy in the same meal, and do not eat shellfish this was not a simple challenge."

  • "Venice has delivered another very cool top dining spot. Upon entereing the Tasting Kitchen, my party was immediately struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere accentuated by the use of wood and natural materials, a lively bar and the casual elegance of patio and upstairs dining. We sat at an upstairs table overlooking the restaurant below, which was great for crowd-surfing. We started with a chef's selection charcuterie plate, including the which paired perfectly with the Spanish Godello wine suggested by our server. Also memorable were the big, buttery scallops, the moist and succulent branzino and the tagliatelle with sliced black truffles. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly, rounding out a quality evening at this Venice gem"

  • "I love The Tasting Kitchen! This is our 3rd time going and will definitely return. Had the mussels , promodoro pasta, and seafood soup, all amazing. Desserts fantastic as well; aggregator bread pudding absolutely incredible. Sat upstairs, which is perfect...not quite as loud. I highly recommend , just don't leave valuables in car if you valet...hidden sunglasses stolen. Unfortunate, but it happens."

  • "I had my birthday dinner here last week. No acknowledgement at all.... Not even a "happy bday" greeting. Certainly no bday dessert."

  • "Ambiance was nice and cozy. We were upstairs so it was a little quieter than the downstairs. Decor is a nice combo of simple, casual, dark varnished wood tables and bar, and touches of steam punk here and there...chandelier encased in a metal sphere. Hostess was VERY sweet and welcoming, may have been the assistant GM. Food was very tasty. Bread was yummy. Gnocco fritto w Salumi & burrata were good but I could have done without the gnocco fritto (fried puffed dough) my friend liked it though. Leg of lamb was my fav. The corzetti pasta w braised pork was tasty. Didn't care for the rigatoni noodles in the rigatoni lamb/anchovy pasta. Chicories salad was great! Drinks were great too! Nicely made cocktails."

  • "From the amazing wine list to the superb pastas to the incredibly delicious mains to the attentive and professional service to the felt layer on the undersurface of the tables, the Tasting Kitchen nails it every time. It's hard to think of anything to suggest be done differently. So so good."

  • "I love the ambience, the drinks, the Chicories salad, the chicken liver (when they have it), the hangar steak. But they really need to turn down the music plus redo the speaker placement. I know there is a better sound system than speakers directly over diners' heads. Plus I don't want to listen to rap during dinner, I would rather listen to my friend talk. But other than that I always love the TK and will always go back whenever I can."

  • "This is the second time I've been to The Tasting Kitchen and chose the Chef's menu again. It was excellent! In fact, the 5 course meal actually had more food than we could eat. I don't recall this from the first time there. The first time felt more like all the courses were tapas. This time, there were two large portions that were fantastic but more food than we could handle. The energy is abundant at this place. I'd call it very "Abbott Kinney" … so expect some noise versus a quiet dining experience. The servers did a good job covering our table in pretty much a team effort. I will be back … the food here is outstanding!!"

  • "I was tempted to do the chef's tasting, where the chef sends out his selection of three or five dishes, but since I don't know the chef at all, I thought it might be safer to order things that sounded good to me, lest I end up with a meal of things I'm not too fond of. The salt-roasted whole branzino with hedgehog mushrooms, pine nuts and oregano was a highlight of the meal, along with bread pudding al'affogato, which is a must for anyone who likes coffee. A shot of espresso is poured over a parfait of challah bread, caramel and bourbon gelato. How can you resist? Service was friendly but distant. Even on a Tuesday, they were busy, which is great. It's dimly lit, chairs are comfy but tables are close together, so I found it too noisy."

  • "my husband and I came for our anniversary. started by sharing one "english garden" cocktail; I'm not normally a gin drinking but the cucumber enticed me. Quickly ordered another! For apps we shared the lentils (a MUST HAVE) and the radicchio salad (a tad bitter, but ok, prob would order again) For our main course we shared the Hangar Steak (wow!) and their version of a cioppino (I forgot what is was called, but I remember it was AMAZING!), and a bottle of wine. For dessert we shared some sorbet and their house special, which was also good. While the tab was pricey, we knew that going in. The food was delicious, the atmosphere perfect; we sat upstairs, so it was as noisy, and we were not hurried to leave. We were there 3 hours!!"

  • "This is really a perfect LA restaurant -- nice enough to take a special guest, romantic enough for a date, but also perfect if you just are in it for the food. The menu draws on very fresh ingredients, so though you won't see peas in the market in January, you can find a few perfect ones from their garden in a little amuse bouche the chef sends out. The 3-course tasting menu was perfect for two ladies and a good chance to try things you might not have thought to order, and discover you really liked. But for a special occasion, especially, please consider the extremely thoughtful, warm service, from the hosts, servers, and staff. All were so welcoming -- this is what hospitality is all about, and what is lacking in many expensive spots."

  • "Service was fantastic, casual in a good way and of great standard. The design and atmosphere were great, we asked to be moved to a quieter spot and they offered us a better place immediately. Chef's tasting menu was great and so was there advice on wines to go with it. Food was great, simple but well prepared and tasty, pasta was the least exciting but only because the rest was so good. All around definite recommendation."
