He loves steak, always needs to ads salt but not last night.Enjoy ed every bit.We will definitely be back. Not soon enough! I thoroughly enjoy my meal as well.Sarah was very informative with. The menu and wine choices. Not to mention her sweetness and attention to us and details sometimes overlooked. Thank you for giving us such a special evening out!Much needed and appreciated! Laurie Potasiewicz.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic mealI would highly recommend this restaurant. The Tailor and The Cook takes advantage of the many farms and local growers of Upstate New York and highlights the best of what the area has to offer.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMTailor and the cookThis is a great restaurant and a wonderful atmosphere.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceThe dinner was excellent, the service was well timed and never felt rushed. A little cramped, but that kind of made the feel a bit more of a shared experience. Well done and I hope you have long-term success with this strategy.
Thank you, we'll be back.
Rick5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMcontinued excellenceBig city feel at historic Bag Square. Excellent Seasonal menu with local sourced ingredients. Service was exceptional both for knowledge and pacing of the meal. Wine list continues to expand.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI am very picky on what II am very picky on what I eat the food is always good here I highly recommend it !!!!! I go there at least 2-3 times a month and each time I can't wait to go again I love the food and look forward to it !!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFar and away the best meal in UticaThis is the best food, for a price of course, that you will find in the area. Filled with local ingredients and a very solid continental menu. We go as often as our budget will allow. Make sure to get your reservation in early because they do fill up.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFANTASTIC!Tailor and the cook is always our first choice and does not disappoint! We have eaten in many restaurants all over the country, it is by far the best! So happy it is located right in our home town!!! Glad for their success! I think it is wonderful they are supporting the other local farms and businesses.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAn ENJOYABLE dinning experience!Although I am NOT a certified Sommelier, I do enjoy a couple glasses of a fine wine with a meal and have done so for many years. The wine selection at The Tailor and the Cook is a wonderful selection of very nice wines -- often wines that most folks have not heard of before -- but quite a wine's quality is in the tasting, not a well known brand name. Although the bar has limited seating, the bartender is one of a small handful in the region who combines experience, understanding, talent and a genuine interest in both the art & science of mixology. I have eaten there several times in the past 14 or 15 months and the food (the vast majority of which is LOCAL) has always been superb quality and prepared precisely to request!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely the best food IAbsolutely the best food I have ever tasted!!! Magnificent!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good overall. A veryVery good overall. A very electric atmosphere, wonderful food choices prepared exquisitely, and very attentive service. The pace of serving each dish was perfect. We had ordered a pot of the french press coffee which was lukewarm at best. Our waiter apologized and didn't charge us for the coffee. The noise level is quite high making it just a bit difficult to carry on a conversation, especially with an older person.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMReally good food as alwaysReally good food as always not the same old stuff as the other local restaurants.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSimple and delicious! The farm to table concept is long overdue for this area. LOVE how the menu offers basic and unusual food options made simply without being over processed. My dinner was served Hot, the way it should be!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Gem in CNYThe Tailor and the Cook is a special gem in Central New York. It's very unique and there are very few places in comparison. It has been busy since the day they opened. Reservations are a must and I am glad they use Open Table. That is rare in CNY.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGypsy GirlOne of best restaurants I have ever been to. Quality food, service and atmosphere make this a top notch establishment.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExperience Not to Be MissedAnother wonderful experience at Tailor and the Cook. Food was exceptional, beautifully presented by attentive but not intrusive wait staff. Love the choice in sizes for wine by the glass! Food is local and seasonal, which means fiddlesticks are currently on the menu.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMTailor and the Cook a local hotspotWe brought our son and his girlfriend ( both do not live in the area ), and they really enjoyed your food and outstanding service from the bar to the food being served. Sarah was outstanding and really impressed them with her presentation of the food as well.
We recommend the Tailor and the Cook to anyone we know who is looking for excellent food and great customer service!
Thanks again!

I would not suggest bringing children as I dont think there was anything on the menu that my kid would eat. But the service (SARAH) was outstanding and the buidling is great. Great Job4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed our dinner veryWe enjoyed our dinner very much. The atmosphere was great. The server was outstanding. Our meals were delicious and different from what we could get anywhere else. My Arctic Char was so delicious, it was really enjoyable. The other 3 people in my party had Veal Rib Chop- outstanding, Leg of Lamb- excellent, New York Strip- cooked just the way he wanted it. We will be back again. We also had the Carrot & Sweet Potato- that was so good as was the daily vegetable.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife's rib eye steak wasMy wife's rib eye steak was very good and I enjoyed the Char. Our waiter was excellent, friendly but not over bearing.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is always uniqueThe food is always unique and delicious. The fact that they only use local food is such a great plus. The prices are a little high, but that is to be expected. My only complaint is that the tables are very close together, and make you feel like you're sitting right with the strangers next to you. Its difficult to have personal conversations with your own party.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMsuperb; wine list upgradedsuperb; wine list upgraded and is much improved as well4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Good. My only complaintVery Good. My only complaint is that I hate the way my clothes smell after leaving the restaurant. But I will return.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely an asset for foodiesDefinitely an asset for foodies in the greater Utica area. The selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts included a couple of classics and some innovative options which showed a great deal of creativity. Service was excellent despite every table being full. We will surely come again, although at a time when it is less crowded, as parking can be a challenge. Also, the noise level with the dining area full, can be a bit intense.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLike a NYC restaurant in theLike a NYC restaurant in the heart of downtown Utica. A true gem and fantastic towards the renewal of the city.
.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI am a regular customer ofI am a regular customer of the Tailor and the Cook. I love the food - Tim and Steve are exceptional. The menu offers a unique selection. The service group, Melissa, Sara and Jim and Beth are like a warm family welcoming their customers to their home. I never know what to expect with the specials but I do know that I will love it. The desserts are yum!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFood, service, atmosphere.Food, service, atmosphere. You've nailed all three! Kudos.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMajor market excellence inMajor market excellence in a small city - and proof that restaurants relying on local food sources can bring outstanding plates of food to the table.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Tailor and the Cook livesThe Tailor and the Cook lives up to it's well deserved reputation. The food, drinks, and service were all exceptional. The only downside was the difficulty getting a reservation!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed very much. Our waitress,Enjoyed very much. Our waitress, Leslie, was amazing !!!! Bartender also excellent. This was my third visit. Didn't enjoy food as much as previously. Became very smoky near end of meal. Had friends arriving as we left, they were considering leaving as they found it very uncomfortable.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMHave dinned with Tailor andHave dinned with Tailor and Cook several times. Food is excellent & service is absolutely outstanding. The big drawback is the noise. It is loud in there -- no other way to put it. For this reason, I would not consider it a 'romantic date' spot -- unless perhaps you grabbed a cocktail at the bar. (The bartender makes excellent cocktails and is knowledgeable about his spirits!)
The first time I dined here I was in a group of six adults -- and it was difficult for everyone to hear each other and fully partake in the conversation. Again, you have to weigh the ambiance/noise factor against the food. For the food and service, I would definitely recommend you give Tailor and Cook a try -- then decide for yourself about the decible leve4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNot to be missedWe had a wonderful time at The Tailor and the Cook. Our meal was excellent. The service was great. A true find in the area. In my opinion, this is the best restaurant in the Utica area. I didn't rate the food or service outstanding not because it wasn't very, very good. But, I don't rate outstanding often. However, the overall experience was top rate.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe staff was friendly andThe staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was presented, prepared and cooked perfectly with all local ingredients. The lighting was comfortable and adequate. The smell of the grill enhanced the experience nicely. The tables and seating were a little to close together, and the noise level was a bit high to enjoy much romantic intimacy, but if your looking for a fine culinary experience, this is one of the finest Utica has to offer!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMthe food and service werethe food and service were over the top. Everything was exquisite and our waitress was wonderful - very knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend this place to everyone!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always the scallops wereAs always the scallops were amazing! Our waiter Jim was knowledgeable and attentive.
Thanks again Tim and Steve for a wonderful dinner .3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly a gem. The presentation,Truly a gem. The presentation, cuisine, and atmosphere are all exceptional: which effectively transforms an evening out into a night to remember.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service,Excellent food and service, I would definitely go back!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA Gem In UticaTailor&the Cook is probably the best restaurant off the Thruway between NYC and Toronto! Chef Tim Hardiman has given new meaning to farm-to-table cooking since more than 50% of what he is cooking (and serving)on any given night is from local purveyors. That means that not only is the cheese you might be eating from a local farm, but the eggs, chicken and (in season) the vegetables are too. Recommended dishes: Chef Hardiman knows fish! Anything on the menu that swims should be ordered at all costs! Other notable dishes include a veal osso buco and the pork belly. Service is attentive and the bartender is a master at concocting unusual drinks. The wine list is small but well crafted, look for wallet friendly interesting Finger Lake varietals.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe dining experience wasThe dining experience was excellent. The restaurant is quite loud though.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first visit -- with manyOur first visit -- with many more to come. The old tailor shop has been wonderfully repurposed to provide a relaxed atmosphere, with paintings by local artists hanging on the brick walls, simple shelving and trim of distressed timbers, muted lighting. A warm welcome made us instantly comfortable. Our waitress -- an avowed "foodie" -- was smart, personable and helpful, with a complete knowledge of the many local foods on the menu. We choose from an extensive wine list, started our meal with an antipasto sampler of local cheeses, meats, breads, and vegetables. Salad featured locally grown greens with a light dressing. Our dinners were exceptional (the mahi mahi special, in particular). Desserts were made in house; coffee locally roasted. ++3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMperfectionThis was my first time at The Tailor and The Cook and I will definitely be back. The food is from local farms and is wonderful.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have eaten here about tenWe have eaten here about ten times and rave about this place to everyone we know. It is slightly expensive for the area but well worth it!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI can sum this excellent localI can sum this excellent local up in one word, outstanding.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb dining in downtown UticaTo a threesome of out-of-towners, this was a welcoming oasis of gracious service and delicious food and drink. It's gratifying to see such a high standard of thoughtful food preparation and presentation flourishing and finding a loyal clientele in downtown Utica. Why would anyone go to a national-restaurant-chain outlet when you can enjoy this high level of dining experience? I look forward to our next opportunity to be in the area. If our daughter is admitted and decides to attend nearby Hamilton College, I foresee many repeat visits.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional experience!I really enjoying my birthday celebration here with my family . Thank you for great food, service and ambience. I will recommend and totally be back.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I celebrated ourMy wife and I celebrated our one year anniversary here. We both have been to lots of restaurants in the area and throughout Texas where we are from and this is now our favorite place to eat ever.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMPricier than most local restaurantsPricier than most local restaurants, but definitely worth it!
