Service was impeccable!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFormal Dining is Still Alive!Having eaten at the likes of Morton's, Flemmings, McCormick & Schmick's, & the Crown room at the Del Coronado before it became "Brunch & special occasions only", I can say that the attention to meal timing/temperature and detail and customer care at the Sycamore Inn far and away outdid any previous experience at the other establishments! We ate early, so that may have been a factor, but the waiter really knew his stuff, and everything was comfortably in time and made the whole experience a foodie joy! We were not rushed at all, and there were no uncomfortable lags in timing for anything requested! I didn't need a knife at all. My wife's Shrimp and scallops were also divine. We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary there in a very classy style and enjoyed every minute. The 2002 Hamacher Pinot Noir also did not disappoint. What a hidden gem....We decided to go to Sycamore Inn on Mother's Day. Once seated, we were greeted by Steve -- a gregarious, upbeat server who was more than pleased to tell us about brunch. There was such an attention to detail with everyone. From the server to the carvers, from the host and greeters, to the Chef who came out to greet the guests during our meal. It was very warm and inviting and the food was amazing!!!!! What can I say??!?!?! Sycamore Inn has sold me and I will definitely come back. My daughter made the comment that one of the reasons why she doesn't like a brunch is generally the food. But, she had nothing but good things to say about the food and wants to come back. The food was fantastic, the service was about the best we've experienced. The atmosphere was kind of "Roaring 20s Classy" and so very nice. It set the mood for a wonderful, relaxing weekend. Although it's said you can't go back, we were not disappointed in the least. We started with "house flat bread", which was delicious. My husband ordered the salmon, and I ordered sea bass. We thought the fish was cooked perfectly, and unique and tasty sauces were used. My sea bass had miso and a tomato salsa. Dinner is ala carte here, so we also ordered sautéed spinach and sautéed mushrooms, which were perfect. We decided on a chocolate soufflé for dessert, which was wonderful. The armchairs invite leisurely dining and relaxed conversation. The staff is attentive but not aggressive. The fare is classic and attractively presented. I usually cannot finish 10 ounces of steak, but it was so good, I ate it all (no doggy plate). The asparagus, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, and mushrooms were also very good.
