The Swamp Fox Restaurant and Bar, named for Revolutionary War hero, General Francis Marion, features classic Southern cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Executive Chef Simon Andrews and Restaurant Chef Phil Gaulin create regional specialties that emphasize farm to table practices using locally grown fruits and vegetables with respect to the traditional beloved flavors and techniques of the Old South.

Known for its award-winning Shrimp and Grits, The Swamp Fox Restaurant and Bar overlooks historic Marion Square Park and is popular with both locals and visitors to Charleston. Guests can enjoy live jazz piano Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights while sipping cocktails in the casually elegant surroundings.

The restaurant also has a private dining room, the Parkview, that seats thirty and overlooks King Street and Marion Square Park. This intimate space is perfect for private events and small parties.

  • "Great food in a relaxing atmosphere. We were there on a Sat night. Pecan salmon with pepper jack grits very tasty, as was shrimp and grits if you like spicey. Our server was fun, friendly, and, knowledgeable which was a great addition to her excellent service. As stated in title this was not a high vibrant scene but relaxed classy which was what we were looking for after a full day of sight-seeing and shopping."

  • "Swamp Fox is in a great location on King Street at the corner of Calhoun, in the Francis Marion Hotel. It has a nice lowcountry menu, with locally-sourced specials. Service is spotty, but pleasant when they come around. The pork done both ways, braised and loin, were properly cooked, and moist. However, the accompanying caramelized Vidalia onions in a cider reduction was ice cold, and the butternut squash puree was room temperature. Prices are comparable to others with similar cuisine."

  • "My meal was the Swamp Fox October Farmer's Market Dinner, a wonderful three course feast for $30. It started with a Wadmalaw Spinach Salad, spinach, grapes, Pickled Red Onions in a Sherry Vinaigrette topped with a perfectly poached egg. The Main Course was a Pork Duo combo of Pulled Pork Shoulder and Grilled Pork Tenderloin, served over Butternut Squash with Caramelized Vidalia Onions and Roasted local Brussel Sprouts. Dessert was a Poached South Carolina Pear, with local Goat Cheese, Candied Pecans and a Pomegranate Syrup. The restaurant also served wonderful freshly baked bread. Service was exceptional and the evening was enhanced by the piano player, who accompanies dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings."

  • "The Swamp Fox in the Francis Marion Hotel is a delightful find. They serve a monthly Farmers Market Dinner for $30 that was an exceptional value. On the night I dined they also had a jazz special dinner for $19.24 the year the hotel opened. The food and service were exceptional and the soft jazz piano was an added plus. My meal consisted of a spinach salad enhanced with pickled red onions, grapes and a poached egg, dressed with a sherry vinaigrette. The main course was a Pork Duo of Braised Pork Shoulder (pulled pork) and a Grilled Pork Tenderloin, accompanied by a butternut squash puree, carmelized Vidalia onions and an apple cider jus. The dessert was a local poached pear, with local goat cheese, candied pecans and a Pomegranate syrup."

  • "The food is simply amazing. For appetizers, we ordered the shrimp and grits martini and fried shrimp and it was out of this world. The best shrimp and grits I've ever eaten. For entrees, my wife ordered the crab cakes with asparagus and macaroni and cheese and I ordered the chicken and waffles. The waffles were jalapeno and bacon with a maple drizzle and a side of braised collards. I ate everything but the plate. I also ordered a planters punch cocktail which was just the right amount of alcohol. Our waitress was amazing. Will definitely go back when I am in Charleston again."

  • "Dining in Charleston back in January and again this summer we thought we could not find anything but amazing food. Swamp Fox was not horrible, but by no means the level of food found throughout the city. A southern favorite "chicken & waffles" was done the same way as my daughters chicken fingers, not crispy and dried out chicken breasts. I expected to find a better dish here in the south. Service was awkward except for the hostess whom seemed to know more about hospitality and service than either of the two servers. There are so many amazing choices in charleston, don't waste your time on hotel bar ambiance and mediocre food."

  • "Great service. Crab cakes were great except for they sat in a pool of oil, mashed potatoes were soupy, roasted asparagus was very good. We went because of great reviews and were highly disappointed. Restrooms were a smelly, dirty pit. This place could be a great gem and is not window shutters very dirty as well. Wine and bread was very good. Our waitperson gave us great service. Except when I told her about the greasy crab cakes and soupy mashed potatoes and she was complacent about it. Nothing special about this place."

  • "Hotel restaurants are usually ok. Swamp Fox is an exception to the rule. Our first night in Charleston after a 12 hour drive we didn't feel very adventurous. Our waitress, Gracie was very nice. She suggested the waffle and chicken and she was spot on. It was very good. The jalapeño waffles had me apprehensive but it was very good, tasty and not spicy hot, and the chicken was tasty, moist, a very nice dish. Pecan crusted salmon was equally good. The salads were excellent, and could have been a meal in itself. We ended up eating at Swamp Fox later in the week, and we were not disappointed. Nicole was the waitress and she was delightful, and attentive."

  • "Hubby and I ate here on a Thursday evening, our last day on vacation in the area. It was 1924 Jazz Night with live piano jazz. I wish we had dined at the Swamp Fox earlier in the week. There were a few critical reviews so we went elsewhere first. Some folks must be very hard to please because our entire experience was flawless. Hubby had the halibut and said it was prepared perfectly. I ordered the 1924 Jazz Night Special. You can't beat three courses for $19.24. The first course was Waldorf Salad. The main course was a petite fillet served with scalloped potatoes and mushrooms and was just enough. The last course was pound cake served with a berry compote. Everything was exquisite. We highly recommend The Swamp Fox, esp on jazz night!"

A night to remember."

The shrimp and grits martini was just wonderful--rich, creamy, tasty. The $30 3-course pork chop dinner was terrific as was a stuffed pork entree. The service excellent. "

  • " Music on Sundays for brunch until 12 noon. We were in town for the Spoletto festival and got there a little late having just missed the piano player. The brunch had a very nice selection including many of the hotel's Southern specialities - delicious grits, stuffed french toast, pecan cinnamon buns and fabulous biscuits and gravy. The omelette station had closed so our server was nice enough to have our omelettes made in the kitchen- delicious and fluffly! Also great is the location, in the heart of the action right across from the the main park/square in Charleston and parking in the garage next door. Our table near the window allowed for great people watching as they walked along the sidewalk. Excellent and friendly service!"

  • "The hotel restaurant was convenient for dinner after arriving to the hotel. That's the high point. For a place that was basically deserted (maybe 3 other tables with patrons and a couple at the bar) the service was friendly but spotty and slow. Our server did not know the menu in much detail and couldn't tell us what the kitchen was out of until she returned to the table after taking our order. I ended up having the southern fried chicken. It was dry, with little flavor. My dining partner had the pork chops which came to the table barely warm. The mash potatoes wouldn't melt butter. It had taken so long for our meal to come and it was getting late in to the evening, we just went ahead and ate the food and than headed to our room."

  • "We went for my son's graduation with a party of 8. The good thing was that we had our own table in the banquet area adjacent to the main restaurant away from the families with babies. The food was ok - the prime rib special was near tasteless and even the medium rare was almost dry, crab cakes had no sauce and were over some red crunchy rice which added nothing to the dish, The best dish was the salmon, which apparently was quite good. As we were the only people in the room, our service was spotty. The best part was that my dad, who is 89 and hard of hearing, could hear everything in our room to ourselves and thus, really enjoyed the evening."
