Diner Reviews
  • "Have been to Sultans Tent before and enjoyed it a lot. Apparently in May they changed menu and got rid of the Honeyed Lamb and Duck Confit salad - two favorites. Not much on the menu that is North African. Belly dancers remain an attraction and staff was very nice about special arrangements for my guest."

  • "I would say that the restaurant experience was a positive one. From the setting to service and the food was all wonderful! A unique experience and environment from the standard."

  • "This review would probably be very different if I didn't have a poor experience with my food. I ordered the rack of lamb which I could barely find any meat on because it was especially fatty. 2 of the 4 diners in my party did enjoy their meals but unfortunately 50% isn't enough to keep me coming back. Service was great, seating is uncomfortable, belly dancing show was disappointing. In my opinion, way overpriced for the quality/experience."

  • "Honestly, the place came highly recommended and we made an effort to get there, the food was over priced for what it was a chicken leg, 1/3 of a potato, 11 or 12 olives and a lemon slice basically that was one dish priced just under 30 we made allowances because of the SHOW belly dancing the music started and ONE girl came out yes that's right ONE we saw her for all of 35seconds table side then she was off to another area in the restaurant..... disappointed to say the least... will not recommend"

  • "Overall food was good. Service could have been great, many missed opportunities to WOW us. Although there will billing errors, they were corrected immediately."

  • "We, my husband and me wanted to go to some special restaurant on my birthday. We selected your place. The ambiance is realy nice, but the food was a total disappointment. It was made without any fantasie. love or taste. Sorry to be so critical, but we just want to be honest. The preis was to high for nothing, every better bite costed extra money. Friends of mine has the same opinion. "

  • "A wonderful evenly paced, un-rushed dinner! The four courses were well portioned so that one could enjoy all of them and not be overly full. It's an awesome and active place on the weekends, but our midweek visit was a real treat! The restaurant was not full and the belly dancer still came out and completed her show. A very relaxed atmosphere!"

  • "We decided to sit in Café Moroc because ordering a-la-carte offered us the variety and portions that we preferred. As it’s not necessary to review each course, overall the food was really good. The only fault was that my spouse ordered his rack of lamb medium-rare, and it came medium-well. They re-did it and it served exactly how it was ordered. Now here’s my biggest beef. The service was ridiculously slow. The place wasn't busy, so we could not understand why it took forever to be served – everything from taking the order to placing the plates down. If I am to pay those high prices – and I don’t mind paying – I want to make sure that I receive the equivalent if not better service as to the food that I'm being served."

  • "My friend and I were craving some ethnic food with flavour so chose the Sultan's Tent to meet up on a Tuesday night. It was March Break so they had a live show at 8 p.m. (but we weren't notified until we arrived at 6 - would've been nice to have in the notes through Open Table). We ordered a la carte vs the set menu. The food was mediocre. Hummus was ok, poutine was tastiest of all, meat platter was dry and overcooked and eggplant "lasagna" was ho hum. Ambiance is really cool there though. Service was slow even though we were first there. We had to hunt down the waitress to come back and take our drink order. Maybe it's better on a busy weekend night? Wouldn't go back unless with a group and it's more a drinks/show thing."

  • "The entertainment was great, my husband and I loved it. the decor was also really pretty, but it was pretty noise when the dancers came out to perform. We found the food to be okay, I've had much better middle eastern food. Also I had requested a little cake for his birthday and they confirmed that they will surprise him with something, but the did nothing, I believe they forgot. I don't think I will be returning there, there are much better middle eastern places out there."

  • "Sultants Tent is one of the examples Toronto is known for celebrating Cultural Diversity in a stylish and delicious way. All are welcome and the fac that you see a diverse group of people from many differenet ethnic cultures demonstrates why Sultants Tent is a signature resturant that will not compromise fine dining standards while maintaining the richnness of the Morroacan heritage"

  • "Service has improved since I last came here. We were seated much more quickly and closer to our reservation time compared to our last visit where we had to wait a significant time when we arrived. The food also came out quickly after our orders. Although the show started late, there were two dancers compared to only one last time, and lasted a longer with the dancers spending more time with the patrons. The quality of the food was excellent this time around as well."

  • "Food was good. But I hope real Moroccan food has a little more flavor than what they served. All in all 7/10."

  • "This is my second time going to Sultan's tent, and I must say the thing that makes this place is the ambience and the entertainment. The food there is fair, but nothing to rave about. The best thing on the menu are the cigars; pastry filled with seasoned meat."

  • "Brought my girl friend on a Sunday evening had a reservation at 7:30, got to the restaurant a little early (7 p.m.) thinking there might be a wait; I was surprised to find there was no wait and the hostess offered us a table. The ambiance and environment is quite elegant and excellent and the noise level was minimal, the service was superb and the food was pretty decent although a little pricey, I was disappointed in the first course and dessert though as it was a simple salad or tomato based broth and a brownie that substituted as "Moroccan dessert". The Entertainment was excellent featuring a traditional and well choreographed belly dance, over all Sultans Tent is an excellent place to bring a date as it is quite cozy."

  • "Boyfriend and I wanted to try something different, stumbled upon the Sultan's Tent and decided to give it a go. The service was good up until the end when we waited to pay our bill for about 20 minutes (this is a pet peeve and I was not happy). The food was AMAZING we both enjoyed it thoroughly. I had the chicken b'stila for second course and chicken marakesh for my main, the spices were great and all of the food was very flavourful. The bellydancing was fun, however I noticed they paid most attention to the large groups and I would have liked to see the dancers more, rather than them teaching other diners how to dance. Overall had a great time, would return but this time maybe in a larger group for an occasion; Great for birthdays."

  • "Pros: Great food, wait staff service were excellent. They paid careful attention to the food allergies. The ambiance is impressive as always. Cons: Even though we had a reservation at 10:30, we had to wait 15 minutes before our table was ready. The same issue occurred last time I came here as well. Some of the food portions were a little small."

  • "This was my 2nd time going there, and I have to admit that the service and the belly dancing quality was not as good as my first dining experience. But we did have a later reservation (10 pm) compared to the 8 PM . Food was excellent and consistent in quality. Overall, highly recommended! I would go there again."

  • "1. The prix fixe does not include the majority of the food on the menu. If you want to order the non-included items be prepared to pay and additional fee. 2. I enjoyed the majority of my food, but the hummus plate had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp since it was crusty... 3. Not everyone in my party enjoyed their food. 4. Wine was great 5. Despite mediocre food and additional costs, we all had a lot of fun"

  • "A four course meal with show. Feel like you stepped in a sultans tent as his guest to his feast. Enjoy the tasteful dishes as they get served. Before desert enjoy the belly dance show. Can't wait to go again. Have to try the other tasteful dishes."

  • "Belly dancers spend most of the tinevtrying to teach some people belly dance instead of dancing."

  • "I have been to this restaurant many times. This is the first time I have been disappointed. My friend and I ordered the Maroc burger, something I have been ordering for years. I got a classic burger; dull and tough; because we had show tickets, no time to correct the error. The frites were not up to the usual standards. I always order half frites & half salad with my burger; I was told that was not possible. We were guaranteed we could get out the door by 7:15 for a 7:30 show; we didn't get the bill until 7:25. Is this place under new management? There was new staff who albeit polite, didn't have things running smoothly. I don't think this will be my go-to place in the neighbourhood any longer."

  • "Delighted with the overall experience. Food was exotic but allows most palates to experiment without too many extreme risks. The prix fixe format allows most tables to be served at the same time. However the choices were generous and allowed for a wide variety of tastes. I recommend the Moroccan Cigars especially for first time visitors. It's a food not the big stinky stuff. Ambience and décor were intriguing. If you haven't been, put it on your list. Not that expensive when liquor, taxes and tip are included. Very attentive service. Oh Yes One last item. Don't worry about dessert, the Belly Dancers were in a word superb."

  • "Lots of food in the 4 course meal. We had the chicken marrakesh and the merguez royale. Delicious. The dessert was the standard one it was okay, would consider upgrading for something different. The bellydancing was the right amount, not too sure not too little. It did add to the overall experience. The wine list was extensive, but at no point did the staff push the alcoholic drinks on us. The service was polite and efficient. We had an "aisle" seat and it was fine. It was amusing to watch a group of people who didn't seem to be enjoying the company of each other, but rather their devices, and then they wanted to close the curtains to the tent they had. Will consider going back with a group of people."

  • "The food and service was great. The show was disappointing. We were sat in the aisle way not under the tent. There was only 2 of us and the only 2 to sit in the aisle way. Awkward. The show started about 20 minutes late and didn't last for very long. The belly dancer seemed to get the larger groups active and dancing. She didn't cater to the smaller groups. The show was maybe 3 songs. Overall the ambiance and food was good but the show its self was boring."

  • "The Sultan's Tent was the perfect place to host a friend's birthday. When we entered, we were immediately impressed by the dark ambiance and lavish decor of drapery and pillows. My group was seated in a cozy corner offside the main floor where we had a great view of the belly dancers when the entertainment began. They even grabbed hold of our birthday girl! The service was wonderful, very knowledgeable and attentive to our table. The food was amazing!! I had the lamb with garlic potatoes and roasted veg, and it was cooked exactly the way I ordered. We also had the chevre crostini, salads, cocktails and a seafood saffron dish that was great. Great for celebrations, and we loved their sister location next door, Berber."

  • "Great place for a romantic evening or fun for groups. Food was fabulous, service was great and entertainment was fun. Need to make a reservation far enough ahead of time and get a booth in the back for the full experience."

  • "If you are looking for a decent food and extra entertainment, go there. Unusual Eastern decor. Food is good, and those dishes with extra charge are even better. Servers are doing their best! Belly dance is JUST OK, no more, but we did not expect too much after reading reviews. So, we had a good time, but I am not looking forward to go there again soon"

  • "It is a place that is unique in Toronto... it provides a Moroccan vibe to Toronto for anyone hoping to have fun and tasteful food. Although pricey, it provides you with lots of food, entertainment and something to talk about afterwards. It is an evening in itself. Enjoyable... Great for couples, even more so for large groups. i.e. the chocolate desert, is murderous..."

  • "We were visiting Toronto for the weekend and like always, rely on Open Table to provide us with good restaurant options. We always try to do something with some cultural flair and the Sultan's Tent was spot on. We were seated right in the main aisle for the entertainment - which was wonderful. The belly dancers engaged with the diners which made for an overall wonderful experience. The food was outstanding and I was impressed with the knowledge of our waiter as my companion has some serious food allergies - he was able to guide us in the menu items we should avoid. A real gem and should be tried by anyone in the downtown area."

  • "This is one of the restaurants I have wanted to visit for awhile. I am glad we did but we won't go back any time soon. The food was ok and very mainstream. I had thought it would be more "Moroccan" but that is neither a good or bad thing. The service was fair. Our waiter was busy but there are enough other hands around to deliver food, fill drinks and take your plates that someone is always paying attention. Food was priced well. They work on a 4 course dinner starting at 39.99 to the Feast that is 64.99. Portions are fair but you will likely be full. The belly dancing during dinner was a nice touch and not too 'in your face' if you wanted to continue eating. The seating was cramped and I would not recommend it for a romantic dinner."

  • "First time at the Sultan's Tent, the ambience and the belly dancers were exactly as promised. The service was perfect, not intrusive but also not lacking. The food was really just okay. We loved the first two courses, flavourful and well prepared. The third course (the mains, braised lamb & beef short rib) were really bland and disappointing. The fourth course was just okay too.. but we loved the Moroccan mint / green tea. Still, I am happy to have tried it, not sure I would go back for a second show."

  • "I knew what I wanted and The Sultan's Tent had exactly that, good food and service. It was busy and service was better than expected, considering that. The menu is one of the best options in Toronto as the flavours are exotic, different yet good quality and fresh. It's always worth a visit."

  • "What was supposed to be a wonderful, evening for friends who had flown from five different countries turned into a massive let down. The dancer Sarah was rude and obnoxious beyond belief. One of my friends was taking pictures Sarah proceeded to shake her finger at us on two occasions telling us not to. She did not come to our tent as advertised but repeatedly danced passed us. It was only after management spoke with her about her dismissive attitude that she came over. By that time she had effectively ruined our evening. The food was luke warm, and some dishes tasteless. Most of it was not eaten. The bill with all of the add ons came to $684.00, much more than we had anticipated. We are not going to be recommending this place to anyone."
