Diner Reviews
  • "We have passed The Studio so many times over the years and kept saying, why don't we ever have dinner there? SO we finally did on my birthday. Wonderful, wonderful. Will be returning for sure!"

  • "What we love most about this restaurant besides the food being artistic and extremely good, is the soft quiet music. It does not prevent you from having a conversation, you can listen or not. It is small and quaint. A great place for something special or a casual Friday night drink and appetizer."

  • "Innovative food with good wine selections. Tasting menu offered many good options. Some of the food was under seasoned for my taste e.g. the escargot. Art on the walls added to the funky atmosphere. Overall a very pleasant dinning experience."

  • "We visit every year when we are in Hilton Head at least 2 or 3 times. It is the best on the island for all around excellence at reasonable prices. We are never disappointed."

  • "My husband and I love The Studio! The menu is unique and creative, presentation is fabulous, and the food is always delicious. Lunonia is a wonderful hostess who always takes time to greet each guest personally while her husband, Chef Paul, works his magic in the kitchen. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with Lunonia's paintings on display and Armand Demille's music on weekends. We have recommended The Studio to many friends and they all have had a great experience there!"

  • "My wife had the scallops...I had the filet...and we just commenting to each other throughout the meal how great everything tasted. Even the salads and bread had us talking about what we just put in our mouths. I am not one for words...especially while I am eating, but this place had me talking about the food. We will be back many more times."

  • "the owners are great hosts. great food in a unique setting with artists and music, prefer the front room if you can get it, back room ok but not as much ambiance"

  • "Have been to the studio many times and have never been disappointed. Food was outstanding as always. Carb cakes are out of this world."

  • "We were pleasantly impressed with the varied options available on the menu at The Studio, with both yummy dishes for carnivores as well as plenty of vegetarian options! It is sometimes difficult to find a nice restaurant that offers excellent selections of both types! It's not cheap, but the high quality fresh ingredients used in the kitchen to make wonderful appetizers, salads, soups & entrees make dining at The Studio worth every penny. Though we did not have room to try any desserts, the offerings were many (and very tempting!) and I'm sure would have been equally pleasing. Interesting pleasant surroundings with a chance to admire some local art was a nice bonus. We will certainly be back; highly recommended!!"

  • "This is a charming restaurant with a charming and knowledgeable waitstaff. The food is fabulous and innovative. For a memorable evening that you will want to revisit, Studio is a must. I don't know when we've had a better time, and we go out a lot."

  • "Our third time dining at this restaurant. What a wonderful experience - the whole package- excellent food with great presentation, nice wine list including wines by the glass, efficient and friendly service!! The dining room is intimate with an in-house artist painting while you dine. The evening was highlighted by also having a musician singing throughout dinner. The hip vibe of this restaurant also projects a romantic, elegant side. Highly recommend The Studio!!!!"

  • "When we arrived, the restaurant was VERY small...at least the front dining area was. There was no hostess to greet us, just the bartender who I assume took on that role since the bar was at the dining entrance. An older guy which also sat near the small entrance was painting a picture (very nice) and the "stage" (very small) was empty. After a few minutes of viewing the menu, the bartender came over and told us to feel free to take a walk around and view the art work throughout the 'studio'. There were a few paintings (VERY OLD SCHOOL) hanging on the wall in a cold back dining area that reminded me of someone's grandmother's living room. TOTALLY NOT THRILLED...with the ambience or the food. We did like the one-man-band though!"

  • "We had a lovely time and greatly enjoyed the Chef's Palette, basically a sampler plate of amazing entrees. We had a great bottle of wine. And the escargot was fabulous. The music was fun too! You can't go wrong here."

  • "The food was excellent, the art which was all done by the chefs wife and it was nice to browse around the restaurant. The music was just at the right level and we stayed way past dinner to enjoy armondo play a variety of songs and requests for all the customers"

  • "This is a great restaurant with consistenly great food in a nice atmosphere. We love the live music during dinner and watching the artist do his thing on the canvas."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "Let me start off by saying that the food and service were very good; I would recommend the Palette, which offers a sampling of the day's entree choices. We we're mislead by reviews that mentioned an artist in attendance, as well as a musician; it turns out that they are only there on Friday & Saturday evenings. Instead, our entertainment for the evening consisted of a table of 4 guys -- down from New Jersey for golfing/fishing -- whose loud conversation was fueled by free-flowing wine and mojitos before and during dinner. The overall experience might be better on a Friday/Saturday with all the pieces in place, but I doubt we will be back."

  • "We decided to have a night out from the kids at The Studio during our vacation to Hilton Head based on the description of the restaurant online. It sounded like it would be a unique dining experience with one of a kind artwork, music and interesting pairings of food for entrees. However, it really turned out to be nothing to write home about! The food was good but very bland, the ambience was fine but nothing unusual and there was no music. I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this place especially since it was a bit pricey and really there was nothing notable about it. It definitely it didn't live up to its description online."

  • "Four of us had a memorable dinner at this restaurant. An artist painted on an easel inside near the front entrance, and a musician played music in this small intimate restaurant near where the artist was painting. A totally unique dining experience. Nice wine list also. Excellent food and service!!"

  • "Food was great. Every dish was expertly prepared. One of the best Fillet Mignon's in town. Service superb. Our server was very knowledgeable. Nice live music. Don't expect to leave there without paying at least a $100 for two."

  • "We love The Studio!!!!! Its one of our favorites in Hilton Head. The service is excellent they know the menu, offer suggestions for wine pairings that complement the food. The lamb and the filet were cooked perfectly - you didn't need a knife for either! The bread pudding dessert special was heavenly - with slightly melted ghiradelli chocolate chips and vanilla ice cream on the side - very "light" considering it was bread pudding! We'll be back during our next visit to HHI."

  • "This restaurant's unique claim is that it is in a working artist's studio. There was plenty of original art on the walls and an easel set up in the main dining room, but no artist at work during our meal. Probably just as well, as I don't think the food would be improved by the smell of oil paint. That said, the food was excellent. I had the grilled grouper with crab meat, which was excellent. We live in the area and are used to fresh grouper, and this was among the best we'd eaten. Unlike many restaurants where crab meat stuffing is an afterthought and barely tasted, this crab was plentiful and delicious. (The hostess told me that the chef is from Baltimore, so he knows how to do crab.) My companion enjoyed delicious mushroom crepes."

  • "Staff was extremely knowledgeable of menu (food and drinks). Food was full of flavor and portions were perfect. The "Crab and Vadalia Onion" soup was amazing! First time I had ever tried a "liquid dessert" and tried the "chocolate covered cherry" which was absolutely delicious! Yum! The live dinner music provided a wonderful addition to our dining experience."

  • "This restaurant is so good we went back the following Saturday & have reservation for this week as well. It is small with 2 wait persons who are cordiial & competent. The food is fresh & imaginative. The kitchen can accommodate gluten free as well as vegetarian. It is not inexpensive, but they do have an early bird menu."

  • "My wife is an artist which is why we were attracted to the Studio. Upon entering you are immediately pulled into this cozy little museum and start wondering how the food will match up to the ambiance. It was delightful. We lucked out in going during restaurant week where we each ordered different courses on a 3-course dinner. The first course escargot appetizer was something other than a garlic invasion, which was a nice change as was the fruit/cheese/raisin spring salad The duck flauta appetizer was powerful and a great match to the wine recommended by our waiter. The rack of lamb and wild salmon entrees where prepared perfectly. We will definitely be back."

  • "A great little find in Hilton Head. The owner/chef does a wonderful job of pairing great tastes. Recently had a signature dish, the "palette," a combination of three small portions from the entre menu: prime filet, Australian lamb chops, and grouper with a crab sauce. Each had a distinctive flavor and seasoning, yet all three were very complementary. Small but excellent wine list. The chef's wife and co-owner is an artist whose paintings, and those of others, adorn all the wall space. We will definitely return, and The Studio will become a regular for us on our trips to Hilton Head."

  • "Disappointed that the Studio did not have white zin. The ambiance was nice with a good guitar player and singer. The room is small and cozy. The filet was delicious but the grouper was dried out. The entrees were very expensive compared to other restaurants on the island."

  • "We have been coming to Hilton Head for 25+ years and can't believe we have missed The Studio. Some what hard to find but worth the effort. Interesting ambience, very intimate setting. Service was exceptional without being overbearing. Very good wine list. we had a fabulous Filet Mignon as well as The Studio Palette (filet, lamb & grouper). Both great as well as app's and dessert. Definitely will return and jumps to our top five list on HHI."
