Diner Reviews
  • "Started out with the kale salad and oyster "house recommendations". Paired with a very nice champagne/ sparkling wine... Followed by hamachi, yes another appetizer, with avocado, a bit of fruit and some amazing sauces. Combine that with a Rombauer Chardonnay... Next, Jidori chicken for her and Brazino with black truffle risotto, and another amazing sauce for me. A bit of Grgich Zin- wonderful foods and wines- and I was ready to be placed in a hammock for the night! Desert- can you say valrhona caramélia semifreddo? Neither can I, but anyone can point to it on the menu... Black berries complementing complex flavors, focused around a chocolate theme. With cappuccino to complement. Am I satiated? Yes!"

  • "I went there for very special occasion, and was very disappointed. Service was extremely poor. The Strand is "overrated". Very loud environment--great physical ambience. Need better acoustics. Food expensive--would be OK with me, if it was worth it-don't mind paying for value. Food was served "cold". Great location--NO PARKING! Plan on adding 20 minute before reservation to find parking nearby--and bring comfortable shoes to walk distance from parking to restaurant. There are better restaurants to choose from for comparable dollars spent. Will NOT go back."

  • "not impressed, phenomenal view but mediocre food... Service is a step up from any local diner."

  • "Was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful views and very nicely prepared food at The Strand House. Would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. It is a bit pricey, in the $32 per entree and $13 per drink category, but is worth it for the view and outstanding service."

  • "One of the best (and my fav) places to enjoy brunch w/ a view. The food here is excellent, and you'll have to try the Ruby Rose, the Bloody Mary, and the Cinnamon roll. They have a very creative and delicious menu, great service, comfortable surroundings, and great location. I make sure I visit everytime I roll into town."

  • "We were very disappointed. Four guests and several of our choices off the menu that night were mediocre at best. Ordered a pizza. Terribly dry, plain and tasteless The Brussels Sprouts, again, rather plain. The fish.... Just not what we were hoping for. The ambience was very nice. This is the only restaurant with a beautiful view of the ocean in Manhattan Beach but sadly we will not return. The entire menu really needs to be revamped before we try it again.... Sorry. :("

  • "Loved everything from the view, to the food to the wine! A new favorite. Only tough part was parking, so we cab it :-) Our waiter was awesome too! He had some great recommendations and they were all fantastic. He was very kind and patient with our group. Thanks!!!"

  • "Spectacular view. Food was good, but not great. Incredibly noisy as the resturant filled. And should they allow sandy bathing suit clad folks in a resturant where you're going to drop close to $200 per couple? ( jus' wondering...) Truly a manhattan beach experience..."

  • "Everything about The Stand House is top notch. We brought out of town guests there for dinner, the first time for all of us, and were amazed to have such a special place so nearby. My husband and I are moving to MB from Ohio and are thrilled to find this unique restaurant to entertain our friends."

  • "I've dined at the Strand twice so far, the first time was during "Dine LA" week. My husband and I loved the selections - mussels, tomato bisque, vegetarian sandwich. Our window table had a killer view of the Manhattan Beach pier. The second time I visited was with a group of friends to celebrate our retirement. Most of us are "small eaters", so just an entrée is good enough to satisfy us. The grilled tacos were a smash, as were the short rib tacos. I chose the jidori chicken sandwich which was equally as delicious. The hostess was informed that we were celebrating our retirement. She was so sweet to arrange for us to have their special donuts for dessert on the house. Service was friendly and attentive. No doubt we'll come back again."

  • "I really enjoyed the food and the service at this restaurant. Desserts could be improved, but both my branzino and the octopus appetizer were great."

  • "Great complex interesting food! Nice ocean view. Great for our 40th anniversary. Try the corn soup and cheesecake brûlée!"

  • "Our party of four picked different entrees (beef, fish, shellfish) and everything was wonderfully prepared and presented. We picked a 5:15 p.m. seating to assure that we would get a window table, but I would suggest a later seating (closer to sunset) to avoid having to wear sunglasses (or squint) during the meal. The bar downstairs was a wonderful place to meet with a nice selection of rye bourbons. Parking is a problem because the parking meters near the restaurant have a 2-hour limit and you will be ticketed for re-feeding the meter. Public parking (that allows 3-hours parking AND re-feeding the meter) is located 4-5 blocks away. All things considered, a great meal ... but a tad high on the pricepoint."

  • "I've been toThe Strand House several times now, and the food and service never fail to amaze me. It made sense when I found out that the chef used be the chef at Aqua in SF where I had the pleasure of dining many times. The hamachi appetizer is fresh and the sauce is zesty. We ate the chorizo scramble and it was suberb. The view is amazing. I will be back!!!"

  • "I have wanted to try the Strand House's food since it opened (knowing its cocktails were great at night), and the brunch was fantastic. The homemade cinnamon bun was amazing (homemade cinnamon bun with buckets of frosting and maple bacon ice cream on the side). It was so indulgent, but it was incredible. The rest of the food was great as well. Many of us cleared our plates (which aren't small portions). Also the restaurant was really accommodating when I had to change my size and time of reservation. I would love to go back and hopefully will have occasion to soon!"

  • "The Strand exceeded my expectations both in service and food last Saturday. The front reception scored points by accommodating my request for an outdoor table. We enjoyed a nice sunset view while dining. Our waiter was perfect ... knowledgeable about drinks and menu, there when needed, otherwise, invisible. Draft beer selection is interesting. Kale Caesar was excellent, large enough to share. My hanger steak was surprisingly delicious, and I'll get it again. The dessert options looked creative, tempting and highly caloric. The Strand is one of few MB restaurants with a great ocean view. Although they can probably rely on that alone to keep their tables full, they care about keeping the food quality top notch, and I appreciate that."

  • "Our party of 4 had an outstanding experience at The Strand House. The hostess was phenomenal in seating us at a corner table overlooking the Pacific. The waiter was friendly and helpful but not overbearing. The food was exceptional. We ordered the a fish dish and the pork chops. Both were cooked to perfection. For dessert we had the assorted ice creams and sorbets. Overall, we highly recommend The Strand House for the food, service and ambiance/view of the Pacific."

  • "Our last night in Ca., after spending a week with our son & family was finalized with a wonderful romantic anniversary dinner at The Strand. From making a last minute reservation to the the attentive service of your staff right down to help choosing a nice CA., wine, we where made to feel special. We will certainly be back to The §trand on Manhattan Beach on our next visit. Thanks to our son & wife for the recommendation."

  • "While the restaurant is beautiful and well situated and other patrons' food looked great, I ordered the fish tacos. The fish was exceptionally dry and barely warm and it was only served in a limp tortilla with a few shreds of lettuce on top. So dry I could barely eat it - even with the sauce I poured on top. There should have been pico de gallo and avocado or anything else to make it palatable. Also it was served with potato chips rather than beans. Chips were good, but they would have gone better with a tuna sandwich."

  • "Amazing food and amazing views. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. You can park and the beach walk the pier and then have dinner."

  • "It's marvelous to know that Manhattan Beach has finally garnered some great restaurants and The Strand House falls into that category. The food was marvelous, the service fantastic and ambience chic without being stuffy. And, really, how could one not love the environment since the restaurant is situated right at the west of Manhattan Beach Blvd., adjacent to the pier offering a scenic vision of the beach and water. My big issue is the noise factor. There is no rating for bad acoustics & so loud you can't hear the party cross the table. Come on guys...energetic? Please..You need a rating that includes something close to obnoxious & out of control. Don't go here if you're expecting a romantic evening unless you can rent the whole place."
