Sort of a tough review to write. I like the idea of the restaurant, the atmosphere, the clientele is professional, the service is pretty strong. If you like a place that goes out of it's way to make a fancy sounding dish, then this is your spot. Kind of strange that there are more pizza offerings than main dishes although I understand they try and keep the main dishes in a fresh rotation. It's very pricey, maybe too pricey for it's own good but again, keeps the kids and sports jerseys at home. I do think if you are going to charge $49 for a filet the name of your restaurant better be called "Mastros." For the price the food was good. We had the Pork Chop, Caesar Salad, and margarita pizza. All were fine.

    Disappointed
    Dined on 11/14/2014
While I've experienced good service from the hostesses in most cases, this latest visit was a big disappointment. I made reservations 10 days prior for dinner with friends in town from NY. We had a 7:00 reservation which was early for a Saturday, and consequently there were only a few tables seated when we were taken to our table. We passed 3 booths and many tables along the window and ended up at a far table next to a large party. Our table was so close to the large party, that I was bumped several times by people getting by or leaning over to speak to one another. After about 20 minutes at our table, I saw a party of 2 seated at a booth that can accommodate 4-6 comfortably and wondered why we weren't seated there. In the comment section on Open Table, I wrote that we were bringing in friends from NY and asked for a decent table. I'm guessing that the hostesses do not read these comments or bother to look at how far back someone made reservations. Even absent these customer service considerations, I'm baffled why they would seat us at arguably the worst table in the restaurant when so many others were available, especially since they always note that they'll do their best but it depends on how the restaurant fills up.

I'm from out of town so I hadn't heard anything about The Strand before this visit. What a pleasant surprise! Great ambiance, outstanding service, and delicious food in a very cool setting. Our server, Kenny, was friendly, attentive, and really went out of his way in helping us to decide on meal selections. If I'm back in the Manhattan Beach area, I'll make sure to stop here again.

The food was great. I had the pork chop and it was better than any filet I've ever had. Prices were a little high considering there is no special view after dark. I'm sure before daylight savings time it's a gem and worth the price for the added view of the beach. Ordered a diet coke in a 8" glass with a 4" straw. What's up with that? The service was exceptional and the special comped dessert for my wife's birthday was unexpected.

The Strand House food was very good and the view can't be beat. Portions are a bit small which is to be expected for this price range. Prices were a little expensive. Overall, very good place to dine. The Hamachi Crudo, Branzino, and desserts were all delicious. Great to bring out of town guests and special occasions.

Have been coming to CA on business for years. The Strand House has become a regular stop for us. Have taken clients here as well as family. The menu is fabulous. Have always loved everything that has been ordered. My favorite is the pork chop. Totally amazing. Service is always top notch. Recent visit with kids, the server was very helpful guiding the menu choices to make it enjoyable for the kids. They loved it. The donut desert is sinful and may create a family feud at the table if you plan to share!

Went to The Strand House for the first time. Dinner was superb. Desserts were out of this world great. I had heard about the famous donuts so I had to try them. Presentation of each dish was amazing with a nice twist. The view of Manhattan Beach Pier was stunning! The service was excellent with only a few tables in the care of a waiter.

Amazing scene (fabulous ocean views, decadent bar scene at night) but the food is dreadful. Yes, it looks great but ask them to hold the salt! Everything (the branzino, the pizzas) tasted like someone accidentally dumped the salt shaker into the food.

Went to Strand House for a birthday celebration with another couple and it was a great night! The Branzino and pork chop entrees were fabulous, along with the quail appetizer and the Marguerite pizza! The only negative is that if you want to hear each other talk you might go to another restaurant...it is very noisy on a Saturday night-especially when you get put in the corner because you asked for a quiet table!!

Warm and welcoming from the moment you walk in, Strand House won me over with excellent but nonobtrusive service, great cocktails, delicious food and a view of the ocean that defines Southern California. I'd stopped by for a quick bite on a bike ride but never done a full meal here, and it was very special. Noise level was a bit high, but that's a minor complaint given all the other superlatives. Can't wait to come back!

WOW what an amazing view! Considering it must not be hard getting people through the door to enjoy the spectacular water views, the food was surprisingly good. Great service. Most seats have ocean view. Lots of buttery food plus nice vegetarian dinner options as well as beef, chicken, and fish choices. Latest trend in cuisine is low carbs, so don't expect dinner rolls. Entrees come with vegetables including carbs like potatoes or squash, so we were happy. Cocktails have fair amount of liquor and were yummy.

We have been to The Strand House several times. Michael Morrisette, the General Manager, is an old friend from another restaurant. On this evening they were packed, but between Michael's attention to detail and waiter,Chris's, professional skills, we did not feel any impact of a very busy restaurant. Our food selections were excellent accompanied by a bottle of '95 Rhone from an excellent producer. The evening was great in every way. I will, of course, be back in the near future.

Branzino was unbelievably good and the portions quite large. A must visit.

My best friend and I were off to Hawaii and thought we should have a good dinner before our flight in the morning. OH MY GOSH. We hit a gold mine. I will always remember how amazing the whole experience was. You see it's not always just about the food,, which by the way was top notch, but it's also how they make you feel. Well the service was amazing and the view was amazing and well you can see I fell a little bit in love with this place. Will be back soon, very soon even though I live an hour away.

With an ocean view and steps to the beach the Strand House has an unmatched location. Complementary is a modern, clean architecture yet also warm. The downstairs offers a vibrant bar scene, a perfect way to start the evening. Then you meander upstairs to an elegant decor and the spectacular view. Service is excellent with both indoor and patio (with heat lamps) seating. The menu is varied and creative with a fine wine list. Out party of four enjoyed a 3.5 hour night out from bar to patio dining. Service was attentive, but not a hint of rushing us. We had several appetizers - flatbread, sushi and a house special pasta rags. We then enjoyed steaks and the brazino, all terrific as were dessert (cheese plate and s'mores). Fantastic time!

My wife and I invited a group of friends to join us for our 50th birthday. Our table was ready on time. The view is outstanding (as it is from every table). The service was spot on. I had the filet as did two of the others in our group. The filet was perfect. Perfect temp and very tender. One of my guests commented it was the best filet she has had. The Cote de Boeuf was also outstanding and the sauces that accompany it were a hit. The short rib was wonderful. My very hard to please friend had it and loved it. The only disappointment was the Branzino. My wife and one other ordered it and both complained it was salty and fishy. The desserts were awesome though and the evening ended on a high note. This restaurant has probably the best view in Manhattan Beach. The design/decor is great. But, the food is way over priced. And, I believe the quality of the food continues to decline on a regular basis. We are true believers that you get what you pay for...but, you don't get that here. Even if the food was better, the prices are still exorbitant. And the sad part is that because they are charging such outrageous prices, all the competitors in town are starting to raise theirs. And, again, the quality of food has never been great, but, has continued to decline. But, they do have a great view and the restaurant is beautiful. I hope they don't plan on relying on that.

Started out with the kale salad and oyster "house recommendations". Paired with a very nice champagne/ sparkling wine... Followed by hamachi, yes another appetizer, with avocado, a bit of fruit and some amazing sauces. Combine that with a Rombauer Chardonnay... Next, Jidori chicken for her and Brazino with black truffle risotto, and another amazing sauce for me. A bit of Grgich Zin- wonderful foods and wines- and I was ready to be placed in a hammock for the night! Desert- can you say valrhona caramélia semifreddo? Neither can I, but anyone can point to it on the menu... Black berries complementing complex flavors, focused around a chocolate theme. With cappuccino to complement. Am I satiated? Yes!

I went there for very special occasion, and was very disappointed. Service was extremely poor. The Strand is "overrated". Very loud environment--great physical ambience. Need better acoustics. Food expensive--would be OK with me, if it was worth it-don't mind paying for value. Food was served "cold". Great location--NO PARKING! Plan on adding 20 minute before reservation to find parking nearby--and bring comfortable shoes to walk distance from parking to restaurant. There are better restaurants to choose from for comparable dollars spent. Will NOT go back.

Was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful views and very nicely prepared food at The Strand House. Would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. It is a bit pricey, in the $32 per entree and $13 per drink category, but is worth it for the view and outstanding service.

One of the best (and my fav) places to enjoy brunch w/ a view. The food here is excellent, and you'll have to try the Ruby Rose, the Bloody Mary, and the Cinnamon roll. They have a very creative and delicious menu, great service, comfortable surroundings, and great location. I make sure I visit everytime I roll into town.
