Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is #1 - the coolest spot this side of the world - view is amazing, food is terrific, and the service was Top Drawer. I love, love, love this place. My reservation was honored immediately, and my friend loved this great place as we celebrated her Birthday with a complimentary dessert and candle. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Fresh and creative food served in a picturesque setting; a bit loud when dining area is full; tables for 2 too close together."

  • "The service was good. Our waiter was very attentive and timely. I told him that we were there to celebrate our boss's birthday and he told him happy birthday and at the end of our meal brought a lit candle and cute little salted caramel doughnuts, they were very good. The waiter that was coming around filling water and refilling tea, however, was asked to refill my tea, but never did. All things considered, the food was pretty good I had the prime dry age burger which was missing something, more favor in the sauce or something. I've had better burgers. My boss has the lamb pasta rag, he said it was very good, and my coworker had the cobb salad without bacon and she said it was good."

  • "Nice place for a Sunday brunch. As a Californian though I thought their fresh fruit bowl was weak and not reflective of the high quality fruit available and was overpriced. The kale beet farro salad was very good. Frittata was nice. Huevos rancheros also not up to par for what is available in California and were served with cold plain tortilla chips so missed the mark. Server was pleasant and attentive The view is great...right on the ocean. Inside decor great. Overall food could be consistently better given the great source of local ingredients"

  • "Most every table has an excellent view of the ocean and coastline. Catalina Island can be seen on a clear day."

  • "Picked a place based on the web that was near LAX and on the beach. The entire experience was over the top. Gr8 waitress. Friendly staff and customers. The place was alive."

  • "I like that they print out a new menu every day, so you don't have to listen to a long list of specials (or ask how much they cost), but it is rough to find the special treat you wanted isn't featured during your visit. We were happy to get seated near a window and got to watch the sun set over the pacific during dinner - very romantic. They have an inventive drink list. My one complaint is that they have fallen on the "bitter greens" wagon quite heavily. Caesar salad isn't meant to be made with kale, and stinging nettles are just not a tasty stand alone dish. They taste of despair and lost dreams filtered through an old gym sock. Come early, as it can be rough to find parking in that neighborhood."

  • "I had a great experience here before, but this late lunch was different. We were seated right next to the window with a magnificent view. The table lacked napkins and tableware and our server kept forgetting to bring them. Service was very slow, tableware did not arrive until after our food, and napkins did not arrive until we were nearly finished. The servers and busboys were very disorganized and uncoordinated. My diet cola was refreshed with iced tea and that was not replaced as promised. Fortunately, we were being entertained throughout our visit by a flock of birds diving into the ocean as they followed a school of fish swimming south. The restaurant reported us as no shows, even though I gave them my name when I checked in."

  • "This restaurant has it all: a great bar, great wine list, outdoor upper deck patio, spectacular view of the ocean, amazing menu, and incredible food. Bring your dollars - it isn't cheap - but it's well worth it!"

  • "This place is a find. Went with six people, place was hoping but they got us a great table with a view of the ocean and the service was spot on. Some real gems on the wine list, and a really interesting menu made the whole experience very memorable."

  • "Service was wonderful -- very attentive and eager to please. You cannot beat the sunset views which are visible from nearly every table in the restaurant. It was busy even on a Tuesday -- so make a reservation."

  • "The Strand House has walls of glass with an amazing view of Manhattan Beach pier & the Pacific Ocean. Went recently to celebrate a friend's b-day. The sunset over the ocean was beautiful. The food was prepared and cooked perfectly (we tried many dishes & liked everything - stand outs were the pork belly appetizer, the brussel sprouts, & fish - branzino). The staff were friendly & helpful, attentive but not intrusive. Our waitress brought a complimentary dessert with a lit candle to the birthday girl - so nice. You can't go wrong with any of the desserts, such as the doughnuts & cheesecake brûlée! A great celebratory dinner - highly recommend."

  • "For a Sunday, parking wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We were seated immediately right by the window with a beautiful view of Manhattan Beach. Wait staff are attentive and very friendly. Brunch menu was outstanding - hard to choose just one thing. I had the frittata with housemade chorizo which was delicious - just a hint of heat....perfect. Coffee was really good - we had 2 pots. I would definitely recommend and plan to return if we're ever back in Manhattan Beach."

  • "I haven't been to this location since they bought out Sunsets. Sunsets was always a fun place to go by the beach and have a few cocktails and dance, but the food was below average. We had such a great dining experience it was ridiculous! Everything we had was over the top amazing. We tried a couple reds from the wine list, a champagne cocktail, house made (!) pepperoni pizza, chef board (cheese & charcuterie), mac n cheese (with BLEU cheese!) and a lovely pear salad. Zero complaints. Charming waitress, perfect views, hot manager that came to check on us a couple times. Will DEF be back!"

  • "Best dinner experience in awhile. I was recommended to ask for either Rick or John. After a quick wait we were buzzed to our table where John quickly greeted us. His knowledge of the menu set the mood, from there it was a delight. Great service and knowledgable staff made our experience memorable. I'd recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a relaxing and professional experience!!!"

  • "The Strand House offers the perfect place for a relaxing Sunday brunch ! My husband and I and two daughters recently enjoyed the magnificent view and amazing food on a sunny afternoon in Manhattan Beach. The hostess was kind enough to offer us the brunch menu even though it was a little past 3PM and brunch was officially over. The servers were prompt and attentive. My family shared several dishes as we had never had brunch at The Strand House before. The chicken and waffles were out of this world, the quiche - delicious! We also enjoyed a pizza, the kale salad and my husband's favorite - a chorizo frittata! We were not rushed and we were able to thoroughly enjoy a beautiful and leisurely afternoon at the beach! Thanks, Strand House !!"

  • "Though I'm sure they do a great dinner, brunch is the best meal to have here to take advatnage of their beautiful view of the beach and the ocean. The food was good, the staff very much on their game and the whole place had a very nice overall vibe. I don't get down to Manhattan Beach too often but will make it a point to return here next time I do."

  • "Had beautiful weather and beautiful view, great brunch, nice ambiance, very nicely decorated restaurant, very friendly waitress. My seared tuna salad was just right, one of my friends had the hash with poached eggs and my other friend had the pancakes and they were as happy with their food as I was. Very hard to park but that is not the Strand House's mistake. Was a little loud, but because it was packed. Was a little expensive, but for that gorgeous view and great food, will not complain."

  • "The success of this restaurant is location, location and a beautiful atmosphere coupled with sold food and service. The food was very good, presented very well but, not amazing. The food isn't "wow", it's just shy of a real foodie place. The atmosphere fills in any gaps and the service was impeccable. Our party was late due to a minor medical emergency and they were super about accommodating us! After a crazy day and possible disastrous ruin of our plans for dinner with our visiting friends, The Strand House delivered a very enjoyable evening for all of us."

  • "Great for my first date. A bit loud but only because the stupid weather kept everyone inside. Other than that, everyone was spectacular, great locale and view"

  • "I brought a new girlfriend to the Strand House for a romantic dinner. The place looked very impressive with it's architectural and interior design. The service at the front desk and bar were excellent. However, when we were seated, we were less than two feet from the couple next to us. Not the best situation for any romantic conversation. I asked the host to be moved to a table with more space away from other tables and we were moved within two minutes to their credit. The food we ordered was good, but I would like to see a more expanded menu to include dinner sized salads and pasta dishes. I would recommend The Strand House, but not very eager to go back for dinner. Probably next time just drinks and appetizers."

  • "I have been to Strand House many times, usually after surfing in front of it. Locals believe it to be a bit touristy because it's a bit more upscale than everything else in the area, but I think the ambience and food are great. It's on the loud side, even during the week nights, but only because they get a crowd (doesn't bother me at all). The hamachi crudo and brussel sprouts are great for the lighter side, and the fish entrees are excellent. Food is just a bit on the small side for the price, but worth it. Its more casual downstairs in the bar area, which is better for pizzas and drinks. Great wine selection and drinks are always made just right. This is one of my favorite places in the area for a nicer dinner or after-surf snack."

  • "Food and atmosphere were wonderful. Only downside to the evening was that we had to wait 25-30 minutes for our salad. Granted, it was busy, but salads shouldn't take that long. Rest of the meal was fantastic. Waitress acknowledged the long wait but didn't offer some type of comp, which would've been nice. However, I'll chalk it up as a little hiccup and we'll try it again."

  • "They have a wonderful view but also serve some very fine dishes - the tables are very close together and lighting is poor - the wait staff knows the menu and our waiter was fabulous-would dine here again."

  • "We love the Strand House- its a must while in Manhattan Beach. I have been there once for lunch and once for dinner. I was there for dinner recently, and I dont remember it being as loud when I was there for lunch. There were more kids there too. I dont mind kid-friendly resaturants, in fact, I appreciate it. I was just there without mine :-) The food is amazing. Its pricey, but worth it. The beef short ribs were out of this world. Our server was a little snooty, but it wasnt a big deal. Its hard to get a table by the window, but the view is good from most anywhere in the restaurant."

  • "The other night, friends had been raving about The Strand House so we decided to try it for our anniversary. There was nothing not to love! First of all, both the manager and the chef came over to wish us a happy anniversary, then later brought a scrumptious desert on the house. The dinner was so yummy. My husband does not usually like to share but we found ourselves sharing bites of each dish as they were all very special. We started with Poachers (an interpretation of an Manhattan) which were delish. Loved their Hamachi Crudo and the Pear Salad. Great Oysters and then for entrees, Paul had the Scallops and I had the Filet Mignon…both to die for!! We will be back soon!!"
