The view is beyond belief. The food was amazing. I highly recommend John as a server. He was flawless and made the evening extremely special. When we left the restaurant my girlfriend and I had an experience that is second to none. The manager even came over and recognized our special evening with congratulations and genuine enthusiasm for us. It's rare to find such hospitality, food, and ambience all wrapped into one package. She knew her menu and her wine lists, made terrific suggestions and responded to our needs without be asked. We had a wide variety of food - oysters, scallops, short ribs, halibut. Everything was terrific. A birthday was noted in a friendly but understated manner - a perfect reading of our birthday girl by our server. And who would have thought donuts for dessert. Our server guided us through the menu with great recommendations and thorough explanations of the entrees. Our server was so incredible we just had to mention him to the manager. They didn't clear our table from the appetizers we ordered before they brought our entrees. We ended up grabbing our appetizer plates so they could put our entrees down on the table. Also, the waiter asked us if we wanted desserts because the pastry chef wants to go home - pretty unprofessional. My favorite entree is the filet which I usually order, but when I was there this past Thursday, my boyfriend and I tried several of the appetizers which really wowed us. We also tried the pork entree which I usually wouldn't order and it turned out to be the best pork I've ever had. We were greeted with wide smiles by friendly staff and had great cocktails first at the upstairs bar. We were then seated by the window watching an amazing sunset over the beautiful Manhattan Beach pier. For a start up my friend and I had the Kale salad which was out of this world. My husband had the fresh oyster and his friend had hamachi crudo. We all enjoyed our appetizers a lot. for the main dish three of us had the Alaskan Halibut and one of us had the Dry aged New york strip. The food was delicious and tasty and of great quality. The wine list was also amazing . However, there was an issue with my other 6 guests and they did not make the dinner. After 45 minutes I advised the staff what had happened and they were very, very accommodating and helpful. I can't say enough about how they turned a bad experience into a good one. Thanks to everyone that worked that night. The wait staff was very knowledgable but seemed stiff and a bit put out by actually having to answer questions and serve food. The restaurant was loud and definitely had a 'place to be seen' vibe, I enjoy a little more relaxed atmosphere or I would have given this place 5 out of 5. I loved the pork chop (waiter recommended when I asked and he was right on) my husband had the NY Strip and really enjoyed it. we had mussels to start, the sauce was smokey and rich. The food is nicely prepared but lacks some consistency. 3 out of 6 people thought the food was good and the others were not so impressed. I loved everything I ordered: a soft-shell crab appetizer, scallops entree, and - absolutely delicious - the various glazed donut dessert! Each donut was different and there were 6 of them. Definitely meant for sharing. Very light and fluffy, like beignets in New Orleans. Also loved my cocktail -- a mojito-like drink with a Veev liquor, ginger beer, and muddled blackberries. We wanted a nice view of the ocean on our last night on vacation. But I was pleasantly surprised by the food - we went simple with woodfired pizzas and they were all quite good. Nothing too unusual, but each one was nicely prepared with fresh ingredients. We had a plate of the doughnuts for dessert and we really enjoyed them.

The drink and wine menu was interesting and there was a good price range for the bottled wines. The menu was diverse and interesting. Portions were perfect, presentation was beautiful. The services was excellent. Our waiter was knowledgable, attentive but not overbearing. The view was spectacular. Prices were a bit high but fair for what we got. The one negative I would say is that since our occasion was so special and our bill was so high ($300+) I would have thought that the restaurant would have thrown in the dessert. Also, arrive at least 30 minutes before your reservation because parking is not easy. This is our third time to the Strand House and we find the food is excellent although smaller servings than RockNFish and more expensive and the noise level is very good comparatively. The service is also very good, but I find the service at RockNFish a little better. Of course the Ambiance and view are outstanding. The interior is the best I've seen in MB. The hostess sat us at a window table with a beautiful view and the waiter and all of the staff were helpful and attentive throughout the evening. We shared the chef's board, the asparagus salad, the fantastic scallops as an entree and saved room for dessert. The waiter highly recommended the donuts, which sounded a little odd, but he was absolutely right that they are out of this world! This is a wonderful spot for any occasion. We ordered a few 'Strand Margaritas' and was not disappointed - the old adage 'pay for what you get' certainly stands true here and applies to the whole evening. A 10 minute wait at worst around 9pm on a Friday night was a surprise for a great table right against the floor to ceiling windows and our waiter was informative, courteous and happy to provide whatever it was we seemed to be looking for, in this instance a lively dinner with a great view where we didn't want to feel rushed. Of course, its ocean view is unparalleled for miles and miles around.
Although management needs to better train and organize its runners, our waitress was friendly and attentive. And management was extremely classy in addressing a question I had about a charge on my bill.
