A word from The Stockyards Restaurant & 1889 Saloon
Arizona's Original Steakhouse.

Step through the copper entry doors and feel the warm authentic atmosphere of this classic American Steakhouse. Once adjacent to the largest feedlot in the world, the restaurant is a living history museum that documents Arizona's cattle industry with historical photos and a Western Art collection. Established in 1947, The Stockyards has been serving the best hand-cut aged steaks and prime rib for 65 years. The menu also features wild game, seafood, poultry, pork, and a wide variety of appetizers, salads and desserts. Be sure to visit the 1889 Saloon where you will find a solid mahogany hand carved bar, crystal chandeliers, and walls adorned with original murals that were painted in the 50's. Step back in time and relax while you enjoy an Arizona landmark. Banquet space and private dining rooms are available, and The Stockyards is always an excellent choice for groups.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I was with a business group and was not familiar with the area. I found this restaurant and was quite surprised at the quality. We had a great bottle of wine at the right temperature and I enjoyed the game plate with boar, beef and trout. Excellent service and attention to detail. It is worth taking a walk around the place and especially checking out the bar. Large wood carved walls and great pictures from the past."

  • "We went there for my Husbands birthday. Casual dress surprised me, but the wine choice was excellent. Food was cooked just right, split the shrimp cocktail, it was that big. All in all the experience was great, wait service was great, but not intrusive. Definitely would recommend this to anyone wanting a great steak and good atmosphere."

  • "I have been going to this restaurant for many years. While it is not as economical as some, it is because the food and service are a cut above the rest. A nice menu with a variety of options for everyone. Steak and Seafood for any taste. The staff is friendly and helpful in every way. The food is always prepared exceptionally well, and I have never been disappointed in a meal. You get what you pay for, and it is a great eating experience."

  • "We went for Father's Day and my husband was definitely happy! He got the mixed grill, which includes medallion of elk, boar and venison sausage, and walleyed pike. He loves to try new foods and the elk was excellent. I had prime rib and my daughter had the rack of ribs and we all went home full and happy. Our server was delightful, funny and helpful (sorry I don't remember her name)."

  • "Fathers Day celebration on a Saturday evening took us to The Stockyards. First time and enjoyed every bit of it. The waiter was helpful, entertaining and knowledgeable on the food, wine and answered the questions that we had with the greatest of ease. We have already told friends and with the rest of the family that could not make it there with us, so we will be back. Thank you"

  • "We walked in and where immediately greeted by 2 friendly Hostess. Then we were walked to our table without a wait. We had a server I think that took a few minutes to get to know him before we were pleasantly surprised at his Kindness. He was the quiet type (we are friendly people). He brought us a nice desert to celebrate a special day. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone who would like a nice relaxing dinner."

  • "Having been away from the Valley for the last 25 years, I looked forward to rediscovering Phoenix's fine iconic steakhouses. Long story, short ... and without calling out any of the others (if you've been a resident or annual visitor to the Valley for the last 25-30 years, you'll know who they are ... or were), let's just say that "The Stockyards" is the only place that we've visited that truly lived up to its former reputation. The food was incredible, the bartender and wait staff were friendly and attentive ... and most importantly, the place still seemed to exude a bit of the charm and authenticity of old Arizona. My wife and I would heartily recommend The Stockyards for your next quiet evening or special occasion."

  • "What a beautiful building. The bar is gorgeous with a nostalgic feeling for the good ole days. The shrimp cocktail was good and the 5oz filet was well executed. A little pricey for what you get but still a good option. Cheers"

  • "The Stockyards simply cannot be beat if you want a truly great steak. My wife and I recently visited for our anniversary. We were both in the mood for an excellent cut of prime rib, which seems to be harder and harder to find these days. Oh, several other places offer prime rib, but more often than not, I'm disappointed - very fatty, small portion, overcooked, etc. NOT at the Stockyards! Lean, cooked perfectly to order, excellent size, and so tender you could cut it with a feather (well, almost... but super tender!) Our server Alice was excellent, as was the entire staff. We enjoyed the sense of Arizona history of the Stockyards. Super place for special occasions, conducting business, or impressing those out of town guests. "

  • "Planned a Guys night out and I was in charge of picking the restaurant. I had previously eaten her before and enjoyed it so much that I wanted my friends to enjoy it as well. The Stockyards did not disappoint, my friends raved about how delicious the steaks were and what a great place it would be to take their significant others. The staff was awesome and so was the service!!! Hands down, one, if not the best steak house in the Phoenix area!!"

  • "Unfortunately, we were seated next to a group of 20 very loud businessmen and could barely hear each other talk. Seems like they should have put a group that size in a private room. Two of the four of us liked their filets, but they both like them well done. They ordered medium well, while I ordered medium rare, and they all looked like the same, about medium. The potatoes were so full of pepper, I couldn't eat them. The waiter did offer to get me something else, but by then I had pretty much lost my appetite. My drink was so sour, even after asking for some sweetener, that I didn't finish it. The others had the pecan pie, and said it was excellent. The waiter was very interesting with stories about the history of the restaurant."

  • "The experience was excellent minus how rude the gentleman clearing the table was. While having a conversation with my wife he would walk up and reach across the table blocking our view of each other to clear something off the table, no "excuse me", "pardon me", nothing. Also when he filled my water glass he spilled water all over the table and my arm, again didn't acknowledge it and walked away. The waitress was excellent however we left extremely frustrated."

  • "This restaurant had the best of everything. The staff was very attentive, the ambience was wonderful and full of old world charm, the place felt warm and friendly but not so modern and bright. The place has elegance of an era long ago yet the food was full of taste and satisfaction. The bartender knew the old standards and easily made us feel at home and comfortable. We had a very nice evening and enjoyed the drinks, the ambience and the meal. I highly recommend this spot if you miss the old time charm of going out for a nice evening with lovely surroundings."

  • "The Stockyards is a wonderful historical landmark that has survived the northern growth of Phoenix. The atmosphere, walls lined with the history of our Valley, the warm service and traditional menu are just a few reasons why people come from near and far to experience a piece of the West. It is one of our last desert gems. "

  • "We arrived too late for lunch so we chose their small menu at the bar. Excellent food. My husband ordered a salad (not on menu) and they gave me a small one along with sliders. The prime rib was excellent, piled high, and the buns were bigger than most sliders. Two of them with a huge piles of the best fries we have ever eaten. My husband has been there for the main dining room for lunch with clients and dinner. We highly recommend if you are in the area. The waitress was wonderful and fun, too."

  • "My family and I spent a wonderful evening at the Stockyards. Service was friendly, efficient and not rushed. We took all the time we wanted before ordering our entree. Steaks were great and appetizers were excellent! The shrimp cocktail was huge and the Green Goddess Salad was to die for. Not many restaurants offer this salad dressing. It was the best I ever had. After dinner we went to the Saloon for a night cap. That bar is amazing. Wonderful decor. We will definitely come back again."

  • "The welcome to the restaurant was warm and very gracious! Every bit of food the was put in front of us was divine! The service was exceptional! Our server was very good and very accommodating! The bill was more that you would spend for an every day dinner but so worth it!"

  • "Waiter was somewhat disrespectful at times, didn't seem interested in helping. My Daughter wasn't feeling well, she's 13, and didn't want to choose from the menu so we asked for a kids menu. Our Waiter seemed put out and made sure he mentioned the kids menu was for children 12 and under. He also "pointed" at my Mother saying "it's your birthday isn't it?". There was one child, two brothers and our Mother at the table, did he really have to point at my Mother, seemed rude. Total bill was $175, and this is the best service we could get? "

  • "We went to The Stockyards Restaurant and 1889 Saloon for our anniversary. We were immediately seated in the dining area. The atmosphere is open and well lit so it is not as cozy as some might prefer. Our waiter, Matt, was promptly at our table to welcome us. A small vegetable tray and a basket of biscuits and muffins were delivered to our table. Matt offered his suggestions and gave us a few minutes to decide. Our order was placed and promptly delivered. The steak was well prepared and very flavorful. The salmon was a little dry, but tasty. For our anniversary Matt brought us a brownie ala mode. It was an enjoyable evening and we would recommend dining here. (We dined on a Wednesday in the early evening.)"

  • "We had the best server! She was so great with our kids and even brought a joke book to feed their interests (besides the steak ones). She laughed at their silky deliveries and cheesy knock-knocks and made our family night amazing!"

  • "We had a party of 6, all of which expected a great steak experience from this place. 3 ribeyes, 1 tenderfoot cut, and 1 20oz porterhouse later, we were all a bit disappointed overall, especially for the higher price tag. although the seasoning was good, all of the steaks were too dry and chewy. with that said, the service was good, and the deserts were actually great. specifically, the Campfire S’mores was AWESOME."
