A word from The Stockyards Restaurant & 1889 Saloon
Arizona's Original Steakhouse.

Step through the copper entry doors and feel the warm authentic atmosphere of this classic American Steakhouse. Once adjacent to the largest feedlot in the world, the restaurant is a living history museum that documents Arizona's cattle industry with historical photos and a Western Art collection. Established in 1947, The Stockyards has been serving the best hand-cut aged steaks and prime rib for 65 years. The menu also features wild game, seafood, poultry, pork, and a wide variety of appetizers, salads and desserts. Be sure to visit the 1889 Saloon where you will find a solid mahogany hand carved bar, crystal chandeliers, and walls adorned with original murals that were painted in the 50's. Step back in time and relax while you enjoy an Arizona landmark. Banquet space and private dining rooms are available, and The Stockyards is always an excellent choice for groups.

Ebjoyed the time. I was talked into the baseball steak by one of my guests. I would have prefered the ribeye, but opted for the other. I wasn't too dissappointed, but would have prefered the ribey. The baseball steak was so, so.

Our client recommended the Stockyards and we enjoyed our meal there. They have an Old-West theme with a memorable 48 state flag that had been slavaged and framed on the wall by the exit. The food was delicious, but not extraordinarily presented. Our waiter was attentive and he made an excellent wine recommendation. I look forward to returning to the Stockyards during a future visit to Phoenix.

I chose the Stockyards Restaurant to take my husband for his 64th birthday. It is such a beautiful and historic place. He had steak and I had the prime rib, both were excellent! I have already recommended this restaurant the many friends, and he is doing the same. We definitely plan to go back.

I found most entrees are priced in the $20-$30 range. Very good liver & onions plate. Quite a selection of steaks of course. Mushroom appetizer was very good. Waiter was very attentive and visited the table frequently. Appropriate place for a business lunch or dinner, or special occasion. There is a separate bar area. Thank you for a pleasant dinner.

The food was great as it has been on previous occasions. The only issue was that we were seated very near a group of 6 business men, who seemed to get louder and louder as they progressed through their drinks. It was quite disruptive to the conversation I was having with my dinner guest to the point that we couldn't even hear each other speak when these guys were roaring with laughter or even talking loudly, which they did almost the entire time. It's great that they enjoyed their meal. But, not so great for our meal. I would suggest that the restaurant try to arrange seating such that groups of businessmen (and perhaps large groups of women) are seated in a specific area and other diners are seated in a separate area.

We went to celebrate a birthday. It was my first time and I thought everything was great. Service was outstanding. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the types of steaks and anything else we asked her about. They kept filling our water glasses and quickly removing our used plates. Food was delicious. Prices were a bit higher than we usually like, but we will definitely return for the next special occasion.

We went to celebrate both my son's and best friends birthday. I had requested a place in the restaurant to be seated which did not happen. That was the only drawback as the food and service was great as always. Love the history of the place with the old murals in the bar and rose room. Never disappointed with our visits to this restaurant.

This is the second time we have been here. We went during Arizona Restaurant week this time. The menu for Restaurant week is limited but that is because it was only $44 per person for a 3 course meal. 3 of us got the 8 oz filet and one member of our party got the salmon. The steaks were delicious and cook just the way we ordered them. The member who had the salmon said it was really good but for the money should have ordered the steak. For desert we had cheesecake and their famous Pecan Pie. I would stick with the pie.

The steak soup and chili were both made from scratch and superb. The prime rib was generous in size, tender and cooked to perfection. The Parmesan potatoes were delicious and a surprising side dish. The pecan pie was some of the best I have ever tasted. Service was friendly and prompt. The wine list was not extensive, but it covered an excellent range of varietals and regions as well a price ranges. The only downside was the disappearance of the stockyard and its replacement with an office park. It is a shame that some portion of the stockyard could not be preserved as a historical site. As far as the 4 "Cs" or Arizona, the citrus and not the cattle have largely disappeared.

  • Still Good After All These Years

Stockyards is STILL a great old steakhouse. Not much has changed since we were last there several years ago. Steak soup is excellent and the steaks are cooked perfectly to order. Nothing fancy here, but if you've got a hankering for a good, solid steak dinner at a reasonable price, Stockyards is your place. We went on Restaurant Week and Stockyards had the best deal by far. Even got to enjoy their delicious pecan pie for dessert! Bravo to stockyards for keeping it real after all these years. A note about the service, I thought it could have been a "bit" better as our waiter seemed inexperienced and timid about his job. Maybe he was new? Overall, though, he was sufficient. He just didn't do much to add to the dining experience.

We probably wouldn't have ventured into Phoenix but the Restaurant Week offer lured us....a pretty good deal, we thought for for the price fixe menu...salad, 8oz filet, potato and desert at $44.00. Salad was boring, filet was cooked perfectly but lacked luster, I used salt which I never do..standard baked loaded. The highlight was in house made pecan pie. Pretty much worth the price of admission right there. We thought the service was just ok, no major mistakes. I guess I was expecting more high end or something..like Durants or Morton's. And as it was, our bill, with Happy Hour price drinks and wine came to about $140 with tip. A good choice for those looking for some cowboy/cattle ranch flavor, but I thought it was just ok.

The food was very bland. The bread basket was good, so it started out promising, the soup decent, but the steaks had no seasoning and for filet mignon, it wasn't very tender. The mashed potatoes tasted like they weren't made with butter (or a lot of seasoning) and could have used more garlic for being garlic mash. The pecan pie was good and loaded with a lot of pecans although it was just a frozen pie shell, and the mousse was spoiled. They did replace it with their crème brulee which was okay.

After spending a glorious week in Sedona, Arizona, my daughter & I drove to Phoenix to fly home. We had done some research and were drawn to The Stockyards Restaurant because of its history and some reviews. We had a beer in the Saloon before dinner & then enjoyed a wonderful, grilled to perfection, filet mignon dinner. The service was excellent. John Wayne and Barry Goldwater had a favorite booth ... the same booth ... they dined together on some occasions. We were told that John Wayne brought the cattle from both of his ranches to these stockyards.

This is one of our favourite places for quiet, romantic date-nights. We typically eat dinner here first before seein a play at the Herberger in Phoenix. This visit was to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. We love the western decor, antiques (history items), and fine touches like the exquisite tin ceiling, dim lighting and quiet atmosphere. Wait staff was very attentive; even with the fine touches like folding your napkin when you step away from the table for a minute. They were also very friendly and cheerful and relaxed; definitely not stuffy or stuck up. Very good sized portions of food; they don't serve "elf" food. I like the uniqueness of the menu items; I specifically had the Wild West plate with elk and venison and loved it.

I took my nephew who is a Senior at ASU here to celebrate his acceptance of a great full time job upon graduation. They have a relatively large menu of Bourbons which we both enjoyed. Each steak comes with a house salad and your choice of rice pilaf or potatoes served five ways. We both enjoyed 12oz Ribeye steaks that were perfectly cooked to order (rare, me medium rare). The Mushroom Skillet and Creamed Spinach were delicious additions. Overall a great steak house experience that didn't break the budget! I will go back!
