A word from The Stockyards Restaurant & 1889 Saloon
Arizona's Original Steakhouse.

Step through the copper entry doors and feel the warm authentic atmosphere of this classic American Steakhouse. Once adjacent to the largest feedlot in the world, the restaurant is a living history museum that documents Arizona's cattle industry with historical photos and a Western Art collection. Established in 1947, The Stockyards has been serving the best hand-cut aged steaks and prime rib for 65 years. The menu also features wild game, seafood, poultry, pork, and a wide variety of appetizers, salads and desserts. Be sure to visit the 1889 Saloon where you will find a solid mahogany hand carved bar, crystal chandeliers, and walls adorned with original murals that were painted in the 50's. Step back in time and relax while you enjoy an Arizona landmark. Banquet space and private dining rooms are available, and The Stockyards is always an excellent choice for groups.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "My wife enjoyed dining at the Stockyards Restaurant on her 52nd Birthday. We consider ourselves foodies and enjoy culinary explorations when it comes to dining out. However, my wife recently mentioned craving a good American steak and said that she had seen the Stockyards in a magazine. I reserved a table for her birthday and she was pleasantly surprised. The service was attentive and very timely. We both ordered the Classic Steak Diane which was done to our specifications and seemed to melt on one's tongue. The Felino Malbec was excellent and went well with the meal. It was a relatively early reservation on a Sunday evening (6:30) so there were only a handful of other diners and the ambiance was rather quiet and relaxing."

  • "We wanted to get a decent meal before taking a red-eye out of Phoenix. The Stockyards may be an old time steakhouse, but it has been kept up very nicely. Lots of black leather curved banquette booths. We shared the big ribeye steak, a specialty. The food was solid and the service was fast and friendly. We went on a Sunday evening and the place was fairly empty."

  • "This was the 7th time we have taken clients to the Stockyards, this is the only time I needed them to be extra impressed and this was the worst service we ever received. Normally the waiters ask have you been before, although we have we allow them to give all the highlights to our guests, on this occasion the waiter did not, the restaurant did not seem extra busy, but it took a long time to get drinks, the food was fabulous as always, he never came back to check if we were alright with everything, my wife had to find someone else to get a second drink. We even got the bill before we had finished our food, not sure if the waiter wanted to go home, but very disappointed, good news we still got the contract!"

  • "Found the Stockyards on Open Table - Rating of 4 Stars (of 5) all the way around. Steaks and Ribs (tried both) were excellent - Well seasoned and prepared. Apps, Salads and Sides were tasty and generous from a portion perspective. Wine selection was excellent. Prices reasonable. My only knock: Host Staff was a bit snooty, making us wait 15-20 minutes despite plenty of open tables and a reservation and our Waiter was a steak snob...Meaning (by way of example) that if I want my steak prepared well done I don't need a mindless rant and explanation of what well done means...and don't tell me I'm ruining the meat by cooking it all the way through. I'm not sending it back and well done is a matter of choice and taste. I would dine here again ;)"

  • "We discovered The Stockyards on a list of best steakhouses in America and decided to eat there during our recent visit to the Tempe/Phoenix area. It did not disappoint! The food, service, and atmosphere were superb! We will definitely be back next time we are in town!"

  • "Had a business dinner here. Location is a bit out of the way from downtown in a industrial area. Food was standard steak house fare, tasty and reasonably priced. Waitress was a lot of fun and had good reccomendations for all diners. Everyone was pleased and happy when we left."

  • "Food was excellent and a good variety. We had Fillet Oscar and Elk Medallions. Both were prepared exactly to order and were extremely high quality. The fillet was probably the most tender piece of beef I have ever eaten and was accurate to portion size (i.e. 8oz was a true 8oz) not like some restaurants that are cutting corners. The elk was also fabulous...very tender and extremely flavorful. Minor complaint:This is a high end restaurant with prices commensurate with that high quality. When I am paying $200+ on dinner for (2), the last thing I want is to be upsold. I understand there is a fine line between ensuring excellent service and upselling, however, I also expect this line is never crossed in a high caliber establishment...it was."

  • "I have been going to the Stockyards since I was a child growing up here in the valley and when my boss came to visit from the East Coast, I could not think of a better place to take him. You have wonderful food, great service and all the history of the valley and changes over the last 65 years. I'm sure I will be back again soon!"

  • "We were delayed on a flight outof Phoenix and ended up having to stay overnight unexpectedly. Turned out to be good luck for us. We had a great dinner at Stockyards: excellent / PERFECT Filets done exactly as ordered. I had Green Goddess Salad which was fresh and cold. Martini's were excellent and brought shortly after being seated. Our server was Matthew -- extremely nice and accomodating: nicely packed up our leftovers in separate containers with fresh rolls and plastic silverware for a wonderful lunch on the plane the next day -- what a treat !"

  • "We both ordered filet. It was very good but way too salty. It was by no means the best filet I have ever had. The waitress was excellent. The decor and atmosphere is reminiscent of an old steakhouse- great homemade rolls and veggies with dip before had. I probably would not return. For a party of 2 , 1 drink each, 2 entrees over $100.seems a little much when the food isn't fabulous!!!"

  • "It's great to find restaurant that still believes in old school dining rules. Loved the relish tray and bread basket. Their corn muffins were excellent and the sweet butter was a wonderful accompaniment. The service from Bob was top notch. The food was done to exact specification. The steaks were seasoned so perfectly that I did not need the sauce that came with it. All in all a great dining experience."

  • "I love the historic building, pictures, painted murals, and the old bar. This is one of my favorite places to go for a good steak or prime rib. The food never disappoints."

  • "This was not my first visit to the Stockyard Restaurant and while I have always been pleased with my experience, this was over the top thanks to our server Parker. I find all servers and staff here very professional, one of the reasons I go. Parker was very busy handling several small parties and a very large table of about 20 people. Despite all that we were treated as her special guest, there was no request that could not be handled easily. Service was prompt and properly timed."

  • "We were seated fast the bread and snacks were excellent. The food was ok the prime was cold even though it was grilled. The French fries were over cooked or old. The desert was great, overall you can eat there to say you ate there."

  • "For the reasonable price, everything and everyone were superb. It is with a mile of the Crowne Center airport and right along the Metro rail. Very convenient and would compare very well to Fleming's."

  • "Celebrated my son's 32nd birthday. We both had Venison/Wild Boar appetizer, which was delicious. Each had the 20 oz. porterhouse, cooked medium which was perfect. Topped it off with a Root Beer Float for him and Chocolate Mousse for me. We didn't go away hungry!! Also, make sure you take a look at the bar, great carving. Our server was great, explained everything and came around at just the right time, for the next course, but didn't interrupt our conversation."

  • "Have not been to Stockyards for years, just fell off the radar but with many good memories. Classic restaurant with beautiful dark wood bar for the perfect Martini. Dining room has many intimate leather booths where romantic conversation is possible or just talking with good friends at a regular volume. The steaks are fantastic, service is outstanding but not pushy, and the presentation is classical old school steak house. Definitely a return visit. Make reservations, it fills up and I know why."

  • "Great steakhouse with outstanding food and knowledgeable wait staff. Very friendly atmosphere and will definitely be going back. If there is one thing to consider, it's the price. The food is absolutely worth the extra money spent though."

  • "The service and food were impeccable. Service began with fresh veggies, dip and homemade rolls. Delicious! We tried an appetizer of Boar and Venison Sausage with a special chutney which was recommended by our waiter. It was amazing!! Prime Rib and Steaks were prepared exquisitely. We celebrated a birthday and it was special. My only disappointment was that I did not receive points for this dining experience after making my reservation through Open Table."

  • "This was a great spot for a special occasion (birthday) dinner. The service was excellent, the food was outstanding and we felt that it was good value for the expense. Our waiter, Ron, was personable and very efficient. We will certainly return."

  • "Enjoyed it so much we went for lunch and dinner on the same day. We got snowed in because BWI was having big storm so we had extra time in the airport hotel in Phoenix. The steaks were very good and the corn bread delicious."

  • "We have eaten lunch @ Stockyards in years past. This was our first experience for dinner and we were very impressed. Especially enjoyed the quiet atmosphere -- we could visit with our table, but were not overpowered by others -- even a large party sitting fairly close to us. Servers were very attentive and efficient. We will return!"

  • "The entire experience was excellent. The food was excellent and the guests I was entertaining enjoyed it. The only issue was the service spoke low and the people I was entertaining did not understand her, they are from Israel. It was not a big deal, I just told them what she said."

  • "We love to find established restaurants wherever we go They do not always live up to their reputation That was not the case here The meat was tender the service was attentive and the hostesses could not be accommodating The art work was a real bonus Great dining experience"

  • "Always after dining here, I wonder why I even bother to order a steak anywhere else. Done just the way you ask; flavorful crust and tender, moist inside. My companions ordered the prime rib. Again, now we won't bother to order that anywhere else. This restaurant holds memories from my childhood as a favorite place of my dad. The food, cocktails, wine list are truly up there with the best. They made our birthday celebration special."

  • "We went for a business dinner with four. The food was great and not too pricey (highly recommend the buffalo rib eye and the buffalo meatloaf, which most steakhouses don't serve). Matthew provided outstanding service (funny and efficient, always there when you needed him, otherwise invisible). We also loved the large saloon which we used for drinks afterwards. It's a gem from another time. Only downside: the auction room next to the bar, in which we had dinner, appears dated and in need of a serious overhaul. In particular the lighting is ideal (one ceiling light was exactly focused on me, which was unpleasant, overall the lighting seems uneven). Overall great old Arizona gem, great value for money."

  • "Was in town to see my retired parents who are living in Mesa now. My father was super excited to take us to Stockyards as his parents took him way back in the 60's. It did not disappoint. Fabulous service, incredible food, fair prices. Would recommend to anyone headed to or that lives in Phx metro. Gem."

  • "We took out of towners to this historic restaurant, to show them the photos of Phoenix in it's early years and show them the famous bar. The dinner was great, good value, nice wine selection and the waiter was on top of everything, yet not intrusive. Of course, I have to chuckle at the accoutrements of yester year, that only serve to add to the experience. Nice evening and the out of towners loved it."

  • "The service was outstanding and the food was very good. I went to this same restaurant last year and returned due to the steak. This trip left me a little disappointed. When I order a steak at these prices I'm thinking 1-1.5 thick ribeye not.5. The flavor was good and cooking temperature perfect."

  • "The Stockyards is a great place to take clients visiting town or who appreciate a slice of history with their lunch. The menu is old school but well prepared. Not a lot of choices and the specials are limited, but it's straight-forward meat and potatoes. I keep getting the same waitress who is a bit too cloying, but that's still better than one you can never find."

  • "A group of five of us went to this restaurant while attending a convention. The service was very slow, the table was not fully set for all five in our party. We had to ask for bread, we were told that they did not have any salad that evening, they ran out, not sure how a restaurant lets that happen. The food was mediocre. The potato cube was hard as a rock, the salmon was dry and the ribeye was downright chewy. It was Sunday night not crowded and now we know why. Don't waste your time here."

  • "We frequent this restaurant and were somewhat disappointed with the service (we felt rushed). We almost never finish our meal in an hour and felt we were being pushed. The restaurant was full to the ppoint of rturning away walk ins The food, however, was up to its usual standard of excellent and we certainly have not written the place off our list.."
