A word from The Stockyards Restaurant & 1889 Saloon
Arizona's Original Steakhouse.

Step through the copper entry doors and feel the warm authentic atmosphere of this classic American Steakhouse. Once adjacent to the largest feedlot in the world, the restaurant is a living history museum that documents Arizona's cattle industry with historical photos and a Western Art collection. Established in 1947, The Stockyards has been serving the best hand-cut aged steaks and prime rib for 65 years. The menu also features wild game, seafood, poultry, pork, and a wide variety of appetizers, salads and desserts. Be sure to visit the 1889 Saloon where you will find a solid mahogany hand carved bar, crystal chandeliers, and walls adorned with original murals that were painted in the 50's. Step back in time and relax while you enjoy an Arizona landmark. Banquet space and private dining rooms are available, and The Stockyards is always an excellent choice for groups.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent food and drink. Wait staff, especially Ron was attentive, informative and efficient. The beauty of this restaurant is the consistency, consistently meets the gold standard. Great place to dine, quiet enough to enjoy the conversation and create memorable celebrations."

  • "I had a business lunch who are a group of steak lovers that had a limited time for lunch, but will always have time for the Stockyard. Love the food, service knew we were tight on time and accommodated us with good service and the check right on time. Place was packed with high energy and loud business conversations, which everyone seemed to enjoy! I highly recommend this place if you are in Tempe!"

  • "My husband had been wanting to visit The Stockyards sine he moved here in 1987. We celebrated his 52nd birthday with our 2 daughters under the age of 10. Our waiter "Bob" was friendly, well informed on the menu and interested in the dining experience of our daughters. The other wait staff was equally friendly and attentive. We had the Chateaubriand for 2. I had never had this cut of beef before and it was worth the wait. We enjoyed viewing all the historic photos in the lobby. We were just so pleased with our dinner out."

  • "We read the reviews before going to the Stockyards Restaurant, so we knew we were in for a treat! Our choices from the menu were the 12 oz ribeye and the Classics dinner. The "classics dinner" included their Green Goddess salad, shrimp scampi and strawberry shortcake. Outstanding!! My husband chose the ribeye with the house salad. Again, Outstanding!! We also both had a cup of the highly recommended Steak Soup. It was good, but not something that I would order again. It was like beef stew, and for the price, skip it unless you are in a mood for beef stew! Waiter was distant at first, but warmed up as the time got closer to deciding on his tip."

  • "The Ribeye was dry. Not worth the price won't be back"

  • "The staff is not only on top of their game, ie making sure your water is filled, etc, they are also polite, courteous, & made our dining experience perfect. The food was perfection! The atmosphere is perfect for adult dining, quiet, romantic, no rowdy groups, no loud music, no crying/screaming kids, not too dark & not brightly lit. My new favorite restaurant is the Stockyards!"

  • "Super service, fabulous food and great atmosphere! I made our reservations a couple of days before the event and brought the birthday cake in earlier that same day. Outstanding and friendly service. Bob (our waiter) was excellent. Good blend of humor, attentiveness and knowledge. Just be prepared to spend some serious coin for all of this!"

  • "Wonderful food, attentive and friendly service, rich history of the restaurant displayed throughout dining area. Went to The Stockyards because part of the group wanted steak for dinner, they did not disappoint! Cooked just right and super flavorful. My husband's mom said she's always had bad luck ordering steak at other restaurants because it would come out either overcooked or too raw, but The Stockyards prepared her steak just as she requested and she couldn't praise them enough for a job well done. Our female server, her name escaped me, was pleasant and her timing was great. Everyone else was very attentive with filling water, clearing our table, asking if we're doing okay, etc. We look forward to coming back!"

  • "My son and I ate here at the end of a long day in which I helped him move to Tempe, Arizona. We had looked forward to a good meal and were not disappointed. My son had a 16 ounce NY Strip which he said was outstanding. I had the prime rib. Although the menu said it was 18 ounces, it seemed more like 16 ounces (which was ok with me since I would have ordered a 16 ounce if it had been on the menu). Quality of the prime rib was excellent. Very good service. A definite keeper the next time I'm in Phoenix."

  • "I can only say wow, the food, wine and ambience was the greatest; food was cooked and served with perfection. The wine list is also a very nice selection. Made our 47th Anniversary Fantastic. Service was one of the best in the valley."

  • "Took my daughter here on a whim. Waitress was great-recommended the steak soup. Made of yesterday's prime rib-ask for it if not on the menu, absolutely delicious. She also suggested filet over ribeye. I prefer ribeye, but the filet, seasoned with just salt & pepper, was among top 5 steaks I've ever had-never even used my knife. Parmesan potato stack as a side completed it. From service to personal attention to food, 5 star all around."

  • "Had it not been for the recommendation of a friend with past experience here, we would never have discovered this "neighborhood gem." We are glad she did! The service and food were all excellent. Everyone in our party had prime rib cooked perfectly to order and it was among the best we had ever had. Service was prompt and courteous and we also loved the interior decor. Many menu selections, especially those featuring shrimp, are somewhat pricey for the quantity, but others including the prime rib are well worth it for quality of the food. This is definitely not a place to which our budget would permit frequent visits, but certainly a place to which I look forward to returning for special occasions."

  • "We were supposed to go to Flemings for dinner when our friend suggested The Stockyard. We were a little disappointed because we were looking forward to Flemings. But after dining at The Stockyard I have to say- Best lobster I've had - even at Flemings! We had Flemings the next night and wished we had returned to The Stockyard. We will be back!"

  • "This was another fantastic lunch with some "special" friends. I can always count on The Stockyards to enhance the meetings with excellent, personal service. I never have to worry about the quality or quantity of the food served, and all at affordable prices. The Staff is so efficient and friendly, and it's always a pleasure to be personally greeted by Gary. I highly recommend The Stockyards...be it just a lunch, a "special" lunch, dinner, celebration or whatever. You will NOT be disappointed. Thank you Gary, and Staff!"

  • "We went there for my Husbands birthday. Casual dress surprised me, but the wine choice was excellent. Food was cooked just right, split the shrimp cocktail, it was that big. All in all the experience was great, wait service was great, but not intrusive. Definitely would recommend this to anyone wanting a great steak and good atmosphere."

  • "I have been going to this restaurant for many years. While it is not as economical as some, it is because the food and service are a cut above the rest. A nice menu with a variety of options for everyone. Steak and Seafood for any taste. The staff is friendly and helpful in every way. The food is always prepared exceptionally well, and I have never been disappointed in a meal. You get what you pay for, and it is a great eating experience."

  • "We went for Father's Day and my husband was definitely happy! He got the mixed grill, which includes medallion of elk, boar and venison sausage, and walleyed pike. He loves to try new foods and the elk was excellent. I had prime rib and my daughter had the rack of ribs and we all went home full and happy. Our server was delightful, funny and helpful (sorry I don't remember her name)."

The waiter was helpful, entertaining and knowledgeable on the food, wine and answered the questions that we had with the greatest of ease. We have already told friends and with the rest of the family that could not make it there with us, so we will be back. Thank you"

  • "I was with a business group and was not familiar with the area. I found this restaurant and was quite surprised at the quality. We had a great bottle of wine at the right temperature and I enjoyed the game plate with boar, beef and trout. Excellent service and attention to detail. It is worth taking a walk around the place and especially checking out the bar. Large wood carved walls and great pictures from the past."

  • "We walked in and where immediately greeted by 2 friendly Hostess. Then we were walked to our table without a wait. We had a server I think that took a few minutes to get to know him before we were pleasantly surprised at his Kindness. He was the quiet type (we are friendly people). He brought us a nice desert to celebrate a special day. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone who would like a nice relaxing dinner."

  • "Having been away from the Valley for the last 25 years, I looked forward to rediscovering Phoenix's fine iconic steakhouses. Long story, short ... and without calling out any of the others (if you've been a resident or annual visitor to the Valley for the last 25-30 years, you'll know who they are ... or were), let's just say that "The Stockyards" is the only place that we've visited that truly lived up to its former reputation. The food was incredible, the bartender and wait staff were friendly and attentive ... and most importantly, the place still seemed to exude a bit of the charm and authenticity of old Arizona. My wife and I would heartily recommend The Stockyards for your next quiet evening or special occasion."

  • "Planned a Guys night out and I was in charge of picking the restaurant. I had previously eaten her before and enjoyed it so much that I wanted my friends to enjoy it as well. The Stockyards did not disappoint, my friends raved about how delicious the steaks were and what a great place it would be to take their significant others. The staff was awesome and so was the service!!! Hands down, one, if not the best steak house in the Phoenix area!!"

  • "The Stockyards simply cannot be beat if you want a truly great steak. My wife and I recently visited for our anniversary. We were both in the mood for an excellent cut of prime rib, which seems to be harder and harder to find these days. Oh, several other places offer prime rib, but more often than not, I'm disappointed - very fatty, small portion, overcooked, etc. NOT at the Stockyards! Lean, cooked perfectly to order, excellent size, and so tender you could cut it with a feather (well, almost... but super tender!) Our server Alice was excellent, as was the entire staff. We enjoyed the sense of Arizona history of the Stockyards. Super place for special occasions, conducting business, or impressing those out of town guests. "

  • "Unfortunately, we were seated next to a group of 20 very loud businessmen and could barely hear each other talk. Seems like they should have put a group that size in a private room. Two of the four of us liked their filets, but they both like them well done. They ordered medium well, while I ordered medium rare, and they all looked like the same, about medium. The potatoes were so full of pepper, I couldn't eat them. The waiter did offer to get me something else, but by then I had pretty much lost my appetite. My drink was so sour, even after asking for some sweetener, that I didn't finish it. The others had the pecan pie, and said it was excellent. The waiter was very interesting with stories about the history of the restaurant."
